The food has always been pretty good. For the most part the servers have always been pretty good. My drawback is their water, I enjoy drinking water with my meals. The water at this location always has a moldy taste to it. I’ve been told it’s the water lines themselves. They’ve offered me something else to drink, but I still taste it/

Well well there is IHOP and there is Denny’s but we also have Jim’s and let me tell you, I will take Jim’s over the other two any time of the day. Especially this one location here that has a real nice atmosphere to it which makes it so inviting to come here and have yourself a good meal. Been here twice and it has yet to disappoint me. Good service and good food is what I enjoy here not to mention the chicken fried steak and eggs plate that is my favorite. Breakfast is served all day and all night and is so much more better than the other two franchises mentioned earlier. They have daily specials also and some homemade pies as well.

The location on Potranco and 1604 has a waitress who actually tried to intimidate my parents for reporting her rudeness to the manager. After she stood eating behind a counter and then packed up to go orders without washing her hands or helping to seat waiting people, she had the nerve to go interrupt the conversation my mother was having with the manager by calling her a «liar». After my parents were seated this girl has the nerve to stand at the counter by their table and take off her jewelry while mumbling«disrespectful, deceitful. .» My mother asked if she was directing this at her and she said yes she was which caused another conversation between the manager as well as the general manager that was there. The waitress, who’s name is Kerry or Carie not sure on the spelling, still tried to deny it even though there was other employees who told her to behave. What the hell kind of person tries to intimidate and harass older people trying to have a nice lunch? ! I am calling the main office in the morning to report this as this child should not be working in a position where she feels it is okay to harass individuals when she wants to and then try to intimidate them when she is called out on it. When the restaurant was called they said they talked to her and she cried. I don’t care. You do not disrespect people in that manner and then use tears to try to get out of it.

It was good. I prefer any Jim’s over IHOP and Denny’s on every lunch/dinner item and most breakfast items. The pork chops and chicken fried steak m eggs are some of my favorites here. Sometimes they get busy and service is typically shoot or miss, all in all nothing to where I wouldn’t return on any location.

I’m just speaking of behalf of the pies I bought! All of which were delicious! The girls who took my order though copped an attitude though. It irritated me but it’s like she couldn’t comply how to do a simple pie order. Anyways, my favorite was the sweet potato pie and can’t wait to go back :)

What happened? This was the filthiest Jim’s that we have been to. Napkins stuck to table from previous syrup; glass dividers were filthy and bathrooms were disgusting! Definitely will not be returning!

The restaurant was filthy on our most recent visit and smelled like the sewer was backed up. The order was correct but the cooks embellished our regular favorites with their own twist. I love the breakfast tacos, but can’t stand tomatoes. The cook added tons of tomatoes into my sausage and egg tacos that I had to pick out for fear of waiting another 20 minutes for a spit in replacement. My advice is to go to the marbach location and avoid this one.

It’s so clean! I had the French toast and they were delicious. The server was nice and had my MIL drooling. Portions are nice and big, prices are great. I will definitely be back.

The food is always good but the service is HORRIBLE! The only reason I went today was because IHOP was extremely busy. IHOP has phenomenal service and food. Juanita was our waitress and she forever has an attitude. How do I always get stuck with her! She’s beyond unprofessional and on one visit, she complained to another waitress about me in Spanish. I might not look like I speak Spanish, but let me assure you, I’m fluent in Spanish. I let her know I heard her and her attitude lessened but she did not apologize. This morning I was ready to order and she came to the counter and just starred at me. She has no idea what customer service is and I guess the managers don’t care because she is still there and her attitude is thick.

Pretty awful. Our waitress was friendly but the service just wasn’t there. We had a party of 7(4 adults, 3children) so I was really understanding. I personally ordered ½ sandwich-turkey and soup– Canadian cheese. First The waitress didn’t bring my children the waters requested or the lemon in my water(I forgave her it’s a slice of lemon I’ll live.) my one child’s dish came out first with some awesome right out of the fryer fries. They were really good and being a French fry snob I was quite impressed. 5minutes pass the 2 other kids meals come out, one was incorrect so she went to fix it. Another 5 minutes later 3 adult meals come out(which included mine) with some of the nastiest fries I’ve ever had on it. They were cold and undercooked. I was shocked that I received this and my husbands were the same. I honestly wasn’t expecting fries on my plate. However, if you are going to give fries it give the adults the fresh ones because more than likely they control the tip. My soup did not come out with my sandwich so after another 5 minutes when the last adult meal came out I told the waitress I was still waiting for it her response was«I’m working on it» hmmm… Okay. as everyone in our party was eating at different times that pissed me off. Once the soup did come out it was hard to explain… It kind of tastes like lukewarm cheese wiz with chunky baby food veggies stirred in.(Menu said its a favorite… Sorry but you san antonians are whack if that’s a favorite!) the turkey sandwiches as pretty good. The bread itself was excellent. It was super soft white bread that had a sweetness to it. I wish I knew the brand because I would make it a regular purchase at the grocery store. When I asked the waitress for the 2 kids waters I had already asked for upon the initial ordering process(we received the chocolate milk so it wasn’t an issue until the end of the meal) I was told it will be a few minutes. And again I’m pissed off. I wasn’t the only person irritated another lady was complaining she was waiting 30min for French fries and fried shrimp when the lady she was with already had her food. I know the waitress was running around like a mad woman but I was not impressed with the service or food. It comes down to management. Whether it be not enough staffing or just hiring the wrong people there needs to be a change and rather quickly… I don’t care how many Jim’s are placed around San Antonio with service like this there will be a downfall. My husband said he read in Unilocal comments«you get what you pay for» ha! If I’m going out to eat I’m paying for food and service no matter what that amount of money is. I can go to chick fila up the street get better quality food and the most amazing and hospitable customer service… it’s obviously something I will be doing in the future. Also the bathrooms were dirty. :(

Jim’s has its own special niche, somewhere between Denny’s and IHOP, but not good enough to be its own category. The Texas style dishes are a nice touch, and the Pioneer breakfast using our local famous flour is great as well. Service at this location can be distracted sometimes, but they’re efficient enough. Place does need a little cleaning; the booths and high chairs were dirty. Overall an acceptable breakfast experience, and a place full of fond memories from the late night experiences of my younger years. My rating system: 5*= Driving across town just for this! 4*= I would recommend visiting. 3*= Average, acceptable, positive. 2*= You might be able to drag me in. 1*= I will definitely not be returning.

Very bad service. Waited about 10 minutes to get a waitress. After waiting an hour to get our food we left. Waitress never asked for refills and was rude. We figured it shouldn’t be busy since it’s during the week but were frustrated waiting that long with our toddler. I will not be going back.

First time here – for a party of 8 we had a 40 minute wait on a Sunday morning, am not a breakfast person but ordered French toast with burnt bacon and they delivered. Everyone else was happy with their meal and service was expedient and efficient. No wow factor but typical of a Texas diner. Parking tight, the establishments within a ½ mile radius had the same wait.

Jim’s is a great stop for a early morning or late night breakfast. Their pancakes are fluffy and awesome. The service is typical of a diner style restaurant… sometimes you feel they are understaffed but they always manage to get the job done.

This review has nothing to do with the food. As I sit here waiting for my order. I can’t help but notice all the other orders being brought out. The plates are stacked one on top of the other. When the orders first go out, they place them on the counter, then the servers(some) stack one plate’s bottom(that touched the counter) on top of the food! Gross! That’s cross contamination! Buy a darn tray if you do not want to make more than one trip!

It is mediocre Texas style food. Not a terrible place to eat for the price but it certainly leaves something to be desired.

I’ve been coming to the Jim’s on 1604/Potranco since it opened last year — AWESOME diner food. I’ve had consistently good service for dine in and take out. The hosts/waitstaff are really nice and if you ever have a problem with your order they will fix it right away. I also LOVE that the restaurant is open 24 hours a day! How convenient! In addition to the great service, the food is also good. My favorites for breakfast are the pancakes and eggs benedict, and my boyfriend loves the Spanish Omelet which comes with hashbrowns, beans and tortillas. For lunch/dinner DEFINITELY the Chicken Tortilla Soup — my FAVORITE, so so yummy and full of flavor with a great kick!, the grilled cheese(whenever I bite into this cheesy, crispy goodness I feel like a kid all over again) and the frontier burger! And dessert — sweet potato pie and apple pie — so delish!!! Around the holidays my family usually orders whole pies to-go and Jim’s has a Pie Rewards program — basically for every whole pie you buy you get a token for $ 5 off to use during January-March. Tip — if you sign up for their email club you get $ 5 off your meal for your birthday!
