Great alternative to Subway. Freshly made to order and friendly service. AWESOME drink machine! Downside…the bread isn’t much to write about. And while there were a lot of hot sauces to choose from… they were in an inaccessible area, all jumbled up and dirty. Maybe they had a busy day?

This is my new favorite sub place around. I like the bread, the toppings, the cheeses and the sauces. The service at this location tends to be slow during dinner hours as they only have 3 – 4 workers and a sandwich takes about 10 minutes. which is very slow for any sub place… lunch is better but they can still do much better. The sandwiches are usually very tasty… I get the veggie with no mayo and no onions… The veggies are fresh… the cheese is melty and chewy on a hot sub which is delicious… Best of all, the sandwich comes in a cardboard box instead of the paper wrap which makes eating a to go sandwich much less messier… Try this place… they got some decent selection… but as I said… expect to wait for the sandwich for sometime… Or hopefully the owners make things quicker which would make these tripe better…

Way below a jersey mikes and even subway 15 wait from order to table not only wrong and poorly put together but owner said can’t do anything except what rule says. Meat in little lumps and roll out of sandwich. Owner said franchise way or no way. Worst value of any sub shop big or small I have experienced

First time here and for the money I don’t think it lived up to my expectation at all. I spent almost $ 20 on a medium Hook and Ladder combo and my wife ordered the 500 calorie Turkey Cranberry sandwich. As far as the overall quality i can say that it’s pretty good at best. My wife’s opinion was very similar. I don’t think there was a real value when I speak of the price for what you get. I’d rather go to Board and Brew cuz I’m still hungry: o(

This place makes some really good sandwiches, service is good and friendly. You can add more topping at no cost on your sandwich, I got the engineer, which is turkey with Swiss and mushrooms ! Really really good, and on the side they offer like 100 different hot sauces you can use !! Will return when in the area

It’s great to see a new submarine sandwich spot in Mira Mesa, and the place is huge compared to what you would expect from a sub restaurant. It’s new and unique. I would check it out if I’ve never been. They also have subs that are much longer than your usual, a plus if you’re fond of large sizes and the meals it can amount to for one person. Sandwiches come in two sizes, medium and large. The large size is much larger than a foot. I ordered the Firehouse meatball, large. It was gigantic and don’t get me wrong it was good. I did my best to kill it during my single lunch and dinner combined sitting. But I still had 3 inches left. They should hold an eating contest here to see who can finish the large sub fastest.

I saw that this place opened a couple of weeks ago so I thought I’d check it out. Plus the commercial made the sandwich look tasty, not like other sandwiches. There were quite a few customers already so I guess that’s a good sign. When we order, the young lady who rang us up, said she hadn’t tried it. Bummer! should really know your products. The interior has black & white Dalmatian tables quite a few available and two t.v.s, basketball was playing. The inside reminds me of the inside of a fire station with their décor. Dad wanted to try the cheese steak so we shared a large $ 11. $ 3 extra for a large it came with green peppers, deli mustard, lettuce and onions. The white bread it was on was good but would prefer for it to be toasted. Now I see that any sub can be served on white or wheat. They also have 6 or so sandwiches that are under 500 calories & a few salad options as well. Looking at the menu, next time I’m going to try the Engineer sandwich which comes as turkey, swiss, & mushrooms yum! All and all a tasty sandwich but a little pricey.

Given the rave reviews of Firehouse Subs for other San Diego county locations, I was expecting to give this place at least 4 stars, but I was aghast by the size of my medium cheddar beef brisket sandwich relative to how much it cost. With tax, this sandwich was nearly $ 9 and only contained meat, cheese, BBQ sauce and mayonnaise. I ate the entire thing in one sitting.(In comparison I get 4 meals out of one Subway footlong.) I seriously felt ripped off. The sandwich itself was good. The bread was soft and the meat was tender, but given the size and limited ingredients I just don’t see the value here when compared to Sandwich Emporium across the street. In review… buyer beware because pictures are deceiving!

Couldn’t wait for this spot to open, seeing the commercials for so long on TV, really didn’t know anyone that actually ate here or any other location but was def excited to check it out and so then … From the get go place wasn’t to crowded maybe 4 tables, it was clean, organized, and well kept. Got quite a few hellos and welcomes from the staff as we walked in but it was quite confusing on where and how to order. Our order taker was a female with glasses very friendly, pretty knowledgeable on product, she can see it was our first time and was patient with our order. As we’re the rest of the staff, very friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. Very attentive to the customers and there needs. Ordered the Full size Steak & Cheese fully loaded w/extra cheese Note: if I pay for extra cheese … I would like whatever cheese I want … not what you tell me goes with the sandwich(Franchise/Manager) it was hard to see the sub being made because of the high counters, but the boxes of bread under the work station told me. the bread wasn’t gonna be fresh … boooooooo the steak itself looked looked pre-frozen … boooooooo I didn’t see no grills(plenty of pannini machines and a rotary toaster) so I was wondering how all this was gonna come together … had to actual send the sandwich back to be re heated not a good idea, the meat was hot but the bread was hard. Half size Tuna salad sandwich … nothing to spectacular … had to ask what type of Tuna tho … fresh of canned … canned it is … but for that price? She wasn’t impressed … mediocre at best. Bowl of chili … mediocre … Not saying I won’t be back because there are other subs id like to try but not anytime soon … hopefully you guys will step up that sandwich game … For $ 33.00 and the quality of the food … I stay with Subway and or Jersey Mikes

I have been going to the Sports Arena location for awhile and was happy to see this shop opening in Mira Mesa. Food is good and yes, the food does cost more than the the bigger chain across the street. However, there is ample seating, a decent tv with the game on and is a nice place to take a break in your day. They still seem to be working out some of the opening day kinks. I agree with the ore iOS posters here that the layout for ordering and the drink station is not good. Moving tables around a little might help.

This place is awesome, we had excellent service from the time we walked in and all the way till we received our food! Get their hot sauce Captain Sorensen Datil pepper hot sauce in a fire hydrant bottle(it doubles as a piggy bank!) :)

The sandwich was okay, nothing spectacular enough to make me want to deal with the cluster that is this place with any sort of line. The designer that thought putting the order line in between the eating area and the soda machine needs a new job. It makes no sense to order, get your soda cup, then cut back across the people behind you in line(who are pretty much just gathered around the groups of tables because there’s no line space,) then cut back across the line again when you have your drink so you can go wait at the other end of the store to get your order. If the line is more than say, two people long, you’re going to have to climb over people(not literally) to get all of the items in your combo. The sub just isn’t good enough to make up for the high price and mess of a line/ordering situation.

I was looking forward to trying this chain out after hearing so many good things about it, so when Mira Mesa’s location finally opened a week or so ago in the former Hollywood Tans storefront, I took it upon myself to give Firehouse Subs a try. So many choices to choose from… I decided upon the sandwich that made them famous — the Hook and Ladder. This is a ham and turkey sub with Monterey Jack cheese, toasted and served Fully Loaded style(lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo) and with a dill pickle spear(YES!!! Love when a sandwich store has these). I chose to have my 8-inch sandwich with light mayo, and got it as a combo with chips and a drink. While the fillings were tasty and the bread was warm, it wasn’t as toasted as I was expecting; in fact, I was a bit afraid that it would fall apart on me(gladly, it didn’t). I should also mention that in addition to the brewed tea dispensers, there’s also a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine on premises. I love how you can mix and match your flavors with your drink, and with the size of the regular cups here, you won’t be spending too much time going back for refills. For a new place in the Mecca, the staff sure go out of the way to make sure you’re taken care of. The gal that took my order greeted me, explained the kinds of sandwiches and how they’re served — later she stopped by to see how I liked everything and even cleared my trash off the table. I also liked the firehouse theme to the restaurant, with fire station memorabilia decorating the walls. And as there’s a fire station in Mira Mesa a few blocks away, I hope that they’ll donate some of their memorabilia to give the place even more of a local feel. If there’s one thing I’m not a fan of, it’s the prices… criminy, they’re high! My combo cost me almost $ 10.50; almost all the regular sandwiches run about $ 7.50, and footlongs cost about a couple of bucks extra. While you do get what you pay for, there’s a few more sandwich places here with the same quality for a few bucks less. Still, Firehouse Subs is a great addition to the community, and as every item on the menu looks delicious(including the 500-calorie sandwiches), think I’ll be stopping by more often.

Just opened near me. I got the beef brisket and cheddar sandwich. It was the perfect amount. I was satisfied after finishing it. A few days later I went back and got the meatball sandwich. That was really good too. The ingredients and bread seem fresh and hearty. Cool fire house gear up around the inside. Most people greeted me as I walked in both times, except the young girl at the register, she just kind of stared at me and didn’t say anything.(Weird) There is another lady, I think she is the owner, she came to the table and gave us a bottle of the captains hot sauce and suggested I try it on the beef and cheddar brisket. It is a must try, the meat made the sauce sweet. It was yum.

I was so excited when Firehouse Subs opened in Mira Mesa because I have heard nothing but delicious thing about their subs! I came during opening day & customer service was great! Subs are pricey… Hook & Ladder = Smoked turkey breast, honey ham, Monterey cheese, Fully Involved(Mayo, deli mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, dill pickle on the side) — You can say I was«hooked» on this hot sub. Haha. The bread is flimsy, though, & it kept on breaking with every bite. Also, the sandwich had too much lettuce. Sweet Tea — Amazing! Nicely sweetened. There is a shelf of hot sauces that are numbered in hotness. Pick your poison.

One of the best salads I’ve had. Plenty of meat & I love how the mozzarella and green peppers are diced very tiny. A true chopped salad. I got the Italian chicken– there was cut up salami & diced chicken breast. I’m on a low carb diet so big hefty salads are just what this girl needs! My total w/tax was $ 8.63 –reasonable for the amount of veggies & meat they give you! Most places skimp on the meat portions, not Firehouse Subs.

Another fast food chain on Mira Mesa lacking in flavor and high in price… You can build a better sandwich at home for the same price. Bread nothing special Meat barely any there and dry Had a better sandwich from the Vons deli down the street. $ 7.00 for a 8inch(just the sandwich) $ 11.00 for a large(just the sandwich)

I really enjoy this place, my first time experience was a Firehouse in Arizona. This one is great, had the Smokehouse Brisket and Cheddar, oohh now that had some great smoked flavor, it paired really well with their signature hot sauce, or one of the dozens they have in their hot sauce rack. This place just opened up in Mira Mesa, staff was well informed and helped new customers get acquainted with the menu. My wife and I will be back very soon.

I work and live in Mira Mesa and was really hoping for a good sub sandwich place. So went here for lunch on grand opening day, and was service was very slow. I counted 11 employees, 9 workers and 2 managers, but yet still had to wait over 10 minutes for my sub, even though it was maybe ¼ full. It really looked like they picked 9 people off the streets to work because they seemed uninterested and bored. I got the medium smokehouse beef and cheddar biscuit, but it was very squished, not«beefy» and lacked that smoke flavor. Guess it needed more than 16 hours to smoke? The only pro is they have 20 different hot sauces to use to mask the taste. I would save my money and go to the true eateries in the plaza such as chipotle, chick fil a and cotixans, before trying firehouse again. I hope this place gets better in time, or else it will get smoked by the competition.
