If you are looking for cheap sushi in the area this is the right place to go, but remember you are paying what you are eating. It won’t be the best in town but you are paying pennies

Pros: The food is pretty good, the prices are cheap, and they have a lot of good deals for their combinations. Favorite: Mixed poke salad with seaweed for only $ 6.99! Cons: The wait time can be very long bc of how packed it gets, especially in the evening rush. Sometimes getting a hold of your server can be a chore bc they are busy running around. Also, parking is a pain in the butt. Least enjoyed: I think it’s Mt. Fuji’s revenge? Very bland fried rice with a little tuna on top.

Great dinner special that consisted of 4 rolls(4 pieces each) for around $ 10. Service was so so. I think our waitress was more interested in going home then refilling our water. I would try this place again.

Sushi Deli what happened? You used to be my San Diego gem. My go-to when friends were in town so I could show off the awesome, cheap sushi place I found. These days you guys are super busy and the quality has gone down. The rice is never right. When I order my favorite rolls they are made differently then they used to be made and are described in the menu.

The prices are great and the food is too! This place is almost always packed, which is probably why the service is almost never great. The staff is always friendly but definitely has the potential to provide consistent quality service. It can be difficult to get a hold of your server at times. Besides that, this place is great.

My coworkers and I went out last night to this sushi restaurant and it was great; the live atmosphere, the nice waiters, and of course the quality and price ranges of the plates! I tried their California rolls and teriyaki chicken platter(still planning on savoring the left overs by the way), and exceeded my expectations on the taste. I could tell that it is a very popular restaurant in the Hillcrest area. But the next time I go their again, I’ll just try to take public transportation because as you can imagine, parking is very limited.

Came here a second time and I had an above average experience. Everyone was friendly and the sushi we ordered was a lot better than last time. I bumped my review a star just because this is my favorite sushi deli out of all three.

Really Really wanted to like it. Sat next to two other first timers. Our Hawaiian Roll just wasn’t good. My daughter and her gf rave about this place. No. I don’t get it. Nice staff, quick service, no wait. But sushi, quick! Go some place else. Like Sushi Kuchi or Tokyo Sushi. If you want something to eat here, eat the calamari. THAT was good.

Amazing place for sushi! My boyfriend and I decided to go here for the first time. And we were really happy with everything! Really good prices for the sushi rolls! We got a few rolls: hillcrest, crunchy roll, San Diego roll and Katie roll! We tried sake for the first time and of course we ordered calamari!!! Everything was yummy! Super bomb! Delicious! We left very happy and we are coming back for sure!!!

Cons: Over twenty minute wait times, the bathrooms are filthy, cobwebs hanging from the red umbrellas in the dining room, paint is peeling off of the walls, wires are hanging everywhere, graffiti in the bathroom and on most of the artwork Pros: waitress was very very nice and it seemed as though she was going as fast as she could. Food was amazing. I wouldn’t say it was worth the wait but it was close.

LORDT, WHY. I always disliked sushi deli. I’ve tried their clairemont location, their downtown location, and now this… This one is just the cherry on top of the shit restaurant they are. I came here for lunch, because my friend wanted to spend her birthday lunch here to take sake bombs and what not. So just know, I did not willingly choose to come here. We got there 1.5 hours before they closed. The whole time, the server was rude af. Asian female. Rude the entire time. Told her it was my friend’s birthday and forreal MUTTERED«happy birthday» no smile included. It was kinda amusing. But maybe she was having a bad day? Idk. As for the food, I ordered their ramen. When she served it, there was loads of broccoli. It was then that I knew this was gonna be a terrible bowl of ramen. Lol ANDSOITWAS. So with that, 2 stars! 2 stars for you sushi deli in hillcrest! Only because the server brought my friend a birthday treat lol.

Sushi deli… YESPLEASE! Been coming here for years and I’m never disappointed! Inevitably I come here starving and crazily craving sushi, place my order and then get excited when it arrives. The problem is that I leave STUFFED every time because we LOVE to order the scallops dynamite. It’s a plate of absolute goodness but it takes a while to cook, and every time we start gorging on sushi and forget that it’s coming later! Lol #firstworldproblems right! So my favorite roll is the San Diego roll. I love that they tempura the whole roll, it feels indulgent! And I was super pleased last time to get tempura’d avocado! They put some spicy mayo over it, OMG The only downside is that there’s usually a wait. But all good things come to those who wait, so get your name on the list and have a beer! #sandiegofoodgirls

I’ve been to Sushi Deli in downtown but this was my first time checking out the Mission Hills location. First off, the prices here are a score of a deal and super inexpensive compared to most sushi places. It’s obviously not a fancy restaurant and it’s definitely more of a casual spot which is why the prices are so spot on! They have a large selection of drinks and you can’t beat a glass of wine for under $ 5 when it’s not even happy hour! There’s several appetizers, bento boxes, bowls, salads, basic sushi rolls and several speciality rolls. Last night we ordered a Keith roll which was fabulous. We we’re definitely craving a tempura type of roll and although the Crunchy sounded good, our server highly recommended the San Diego which was superb! Lastly there was a special this evening which was half a roll, 4 pieces for $ 1.99 so we figured we should try that! I can’t remember the name of it but it had banana in it and some chocolate sauce so it was definitely a good treat to end dinner with Service is good, good music in the background, large selection of food choices and a great vibe! It’s not a 5 star restaurant but the location, price and what it is, it’s definitely a 5 star spot!

Hi thank you… but NO! «BYEFELICIA» to The Sushi Deli One… piss smelled bathrooms and wet piss wads of toilet paper on the floors. Never again… you know what they say a kitchen is only as clean as its bathrooms and I saw rice and fish strewn all over this kitchen… Ewww A prime example of how something got too big for their britches… I am an original Sushi Deli OG from the late 1998’s, back when they were downtown between 8th and 9th… This place has gone to well… not a very good place… ewwww Ok look the food tastes good and the server was nice but Lord knows what the hell this food just may be putting my white blood cells through fighting off infections or something… oh gosh… who knows… If I could sum this place up in a few words DIRTY&WAITING for a long ass time… 40 minutes to get a table and about 40 minutes to get our food… Blehhhhhh NEXT!!! P. S. Based from this experience somebody probably farted on my salad… Thanks Cartman and Southpark for the warning :/

Time to update! I’ve been coming here a lot because my BF lives like behind sushi deli. Like what I said before, sushi deli won’t be the best sushi you ever had or the worst. They won’t use the best cuts for sashimi, but what you pay for is what you get. BUT they have GREAT deals on rolls, sashimi, and combos. Some things aren’t a great deal like the poke and seaweed salad but their sushi combos are awesome. I got the shogun combo or something and got a rainbow roll and 7 pieces of nigiri for about $ 14! What a deal! Stick with sushi, I’ve gotten the teriyaki several times and it wasn’t the best… Too much fat on the chicken. Sushi deli has a high turnover rate, because it’s so constantly busy you know your fish hasn’t been sitting out there for longer. I’ve been to fancy expensive sushi places and the fish wasn’t that great because it’s been sitting out here so long due to low customers. Somehow I like this location much better than the downtown one. It’s much bigger with friendlier staff. Wait is always long, test your luck with the bar. Cheap sushi, great deals on sushi dinner, and hey you’ll leave full for once from a sushi restaurant!

Sushi Deli One SD: Hillcrest 8pm Thursday 27th August 2015 Three Stars There was only a 20 minute wait for this classic San Diego establishment. We sat a high top table. We enjoyed two large Crazy Milk Sake(nigori) over the course of the meal. I opted for the Deluxe Bento Box($ 12) and I was unsurprisingly disappointed. The plate was messy. The Edamame was cold and slopped on the plate. The Chicken was a bit dry with not enough sauce. There was definitely too much rice. The salad was standard iceberg with creamy dressing. The Gyoza was crispy and actually enjoyable. The Tempura had a good variety(Shrimp, Chicken, Krab, Broccoli, Carrot, Squash, etc.) but were a bit soggy. The four pieces of California Roll and four pieces of Spicy Tuna were quite delicious. Therefore you should only get sushi rolls at Sushi Deli. The place is cheap but good.

Get here early, cause the line backs up quickly! And make sure you make it before the place closes to secure a spot on the list. I have been here twice and it is always incredibly busy. Must say something about the place … Anyways, let’s get on to the food. I ordered their month sushi special, which is 4 pieces each of 4 select rolls, no substitutions. This is a great idea to have an affordable sampler. The sushi I tried was great. Just the right amount of rice and awesome combinations of flavors. I especially like how there is always a new roll each month created by the employees. It allows for something new to try every month, which is awesome. They also have a pretty good selection of craft beers. And the fried bananas for dessert was pretty good. I feel that this place has pretty good quality sushi that’s affordable. It’s not the most high end and not the best sushi I’ve ever tasted, but it fulfills my need when I don’t want to spend a crazy amount. I definitely recommend this place
