Bacchus was my favorite wine store in NYC and right near my house. I was excited when they expanded but very disappointed when they closed a few years later. Imagine how excited I was to find it re-incarnated on the west coast when I moved back to LA! The same amazing service and outstanding wines. They don’t carry a huge inventory like a BevMo, but everything is excellent. I have not had a bad bottle yet(I have had some pretty bad wine at Bev Mo). Unlike Trader Joes, which is great for table wine, Bacchus carries wine that have something unique about them; complex favors, interesting characteristics, or just something different that sets them apart. The bottles are literally just a couple of dollars more than what you pay at BevMo or TJs but they are far superior to the big box stores. Nothing bad to say about BevMo or TJs but if you can make it to Bacchus it is worth it.

Stopped in two nights ago. I was out taking an evening walk, and popped in. It is TINY. But I consider it a «destination» stop. There are maybe 8 seats total. A really wonderful wine selection. I think they have sake too. I asked about a wine — the bartender offered a «try». He’s knowledgeable about wine, and the vibe is so friendly. Everyone else in there knew each other. Quiet, comfortable, really nice wine, uncomplicated, relaxed. As good as it gets. Next time in San Francisco, I’ll go back on purpose.

Adorable wine bar in Russian Hill! I live across down the block so I end up here a lot when I’m debating on which wine bars to bring friends to. It’s also a fantastic place to go have a pre-drink if you are waiting for a table at Elephant Sushi. The owner/servers at this bar is extremely friendly and helpful. Keep up the good work guys!

A tiny little wine bar but pretty nice! Grabbed a glass of wine here while we waited for a table at Elephant Sushi down the street. It’s pretty small so don’t come with a large group.

This is a great little wine bar. Super cozy, cute space and friendly bar tenders. I’ve had the red wine flight and I loved all 3 wines. They will also let you create your own flight which is pretty awesome. They tend to poor heavy too so you definitely get your $$ worth for the flight. I plan to make this one of my regular hang out spots.

I can’t imagine that anyone wouldn’t find this little gem adorable, cozy, and worth returning to over and over again. Great service and excellent wine. It feels like you’ve ducked into a cute wine bar on a side street in Paris.

Small space — can probably only fit maybe 20 in there comfortably. The wines were definitely delicious, but not a very big space. Protip: get there early and get a spot, or just get lucky. The wines that I had tried were delicious so try a few.

I’d been waiting for a chance to visit Bacchus. From the outside the wine bar looks adorable and date worthy. Upon entering, the inside does not disappoint. To get a seat(since there are around 15), the date gods have to be on your side. We lucked out and found 2 spots at the bar. The wine choices were good, a little more $ than the average glass($ 12+) but that may be in part to the high quality of the bottles. I got a Riesling and loved it(I prefer slightly sweeter ones). I am a fan of this spot.

This review is has to do with the wonderful peeps at Bacchus that serve Thrive juices(a drink of the gods that they modestly refer to a Almond Joy). Was on Polk st, on my way back from a bike ride when I decided to ride up the 17% grade on Union to get my Thrive on. Most of the drinks looked really good, and in the face of a difficult decision making moment, I went with the Almond Joy. I also found that Bodie(sp?) is the owner of 20 Spot(what I consider as one of the Mission’s best kept secrets). Go check these guys out, you won’t be disappointed.

A bit small. Reminiscent of wine bars in NY. Narrow, limited seating, single sommelier. Prices are pretty steep, but they do offer great wines and do the wines justice with some great glassware. Would come back again, although may come off to some as pretentious.

Great pre or post dinner wine bar. Adorable, memorable, comfy. Worlds away from the post-college crowd down on Polk…

Cute, small, quiet. Great for a weekday happy hour(a lil on the pricy side, however).

Bacchus is great! Amazing California red wine selection with an emphasis on Pinot’s. Make sure you try the Joyce Kelly Cab Franc if you like a little spice. This place has been open for over 13 years and opens at 5 pm everyday. The whole staff is pretty cool and super chill. They play everything from jazz to hip hop to international music. These guys just opened up a new place called 20 spot which is in the mission but this is a gem that you just can’t pass. One of San Francisco’s(un-tapped by tourists) classic bars. It runs right along the Hyde street cable car too. Average glass is between $ 10-$ 14 and they have half glasses too.

This is what I picture all wine bars should be. Intimate but not intimidating with a great selection of wine served by a bartender that wants you to like what you drink. Overall a perfect spot to drink before or after dinner or both(which we did). I hope their rent is low, as I don’t know how they possibly can stay afloat with so little square footage. Here is to hoping they make long enough for me to visit again when I am back in San Francisco.

A Russian Hill charmer on Hyde Street. This is a tiny(!) wine bar but so cute and cozy. We dropped in for a quick glass of wine after dinner on Polk and really enjoyed it. We got lucky and were able to sit on the couches by the window. I love love love Hyde Street so enjoyed the view. As mentioned, Bacchus is very small, something to keep in mind depending on the scene/atmosphere you are looking for.

In a perfect world, this place would stay exactly the way that it is: very wide wine selection and knowledgeable staff who will help you pick something outside your usual comfort zone, delicious small plates, overall incredibly friendly bartenders and wait staff, two blocks from my house, and mellow enough to have no wait for 2 on a Saturday night. Unfortunately, the business volume probably needs to kick up a notch if they’re going to stick around, so I will join the bandwagon on singing the praises of 20 spot on Unilocal. The restaurant is certainly off the beaten path and a little bit difficult to spot(no pun intended), since they opted to keep the(super cool) vintage neon record sign outside of the restaurant, the signage for the restaurant is subtle enough that it’s probably tough to draw people in off of Mission and Valencia. Hence, great place, not that busy as of yet. But do yourself a favor and check it out, best wine bar in the Mission in my opinion.
