I don’t know what happened?! I used to love this place. As of my past few visits their chicken tortas are super packed with sodium! I actually thought they added more salt while cooking(I personally saw the salt shaker shook over food) so I requested no salt but she stated the meat was already seasoned. I prefer less salt but my bf eats normal amounts and not even he wanted to eat it. He asked me «are you sure they understood you because it seems as if extra salt was added». When we asked she stated no extra salt was added. The lady also said they will aim to put less salt in. I don’t know if I want to even bother anymore at this point. Third visit with extra salty chicken. This time I actually removed the chicken and made it a Avocado torta because the sodium was way too much. Darn shame especially since we drove from Gilroy for this torta. The potential for great tortas are there they just really need to put the salt shaker down.

This location is a dump. It’s in a sketch part of San Jose, especially at night. So, why did I give them 3 stars? Because their tortas are good, huge, messy, and a bargain(aka cheap). I did not realize how big their portions were until they handed me my order. I had the Milanesa torta and the chorizo tacos. I initially wasn’t sure how to eat the torta as it was so big. It was also so messy. I can’t remember how many of their thin and cheap napkins I went through in just eating half of the sandwich. The breaded steak was thin as expected and had good flavor. On the other hand, the chorizo super taco was quite the opposite. The meat was mushy and tasted as if it had been cooked way too many times. It was spicy and had more of a burnt taste than anything else.

Tacos are $ 2.50(on the pricey side) but completely worth it. I ordered two chicken tacos and was so full afterwards. These tacos are packed with all the good stuff you ever wanted in a taco and are nearly the size of my head! A major plus is that they used FRESH avocados that were neatly cut and beautifully assembled on top of the tacos. None of that mushy, store-bought avocado lookin’ stuff. Def gonna come back for the tortas my friends always rave about!

Used to come here ALL the time as a college student. Tortas are bomb. Lots of meat and fresh ingredients. Burritos and tacos are good too. Small place, but the girls in the kitchen work fast, so it’s not often that crowded. Very good for the price.

I have a torta Cubana with everything on it, with orange Fanta y some sweet bread as a desert. I love it, the food was a good taste and the ingredients and preparation was ad hoc to the authentic Mexican Torta, I’m strongly recommend the food. i didn’t give 5 stars because the place is very small and crowded.

Ordered a Chicken Torta, which was a bit salty for my taste but was still good. I’m cutting down the stars because of hygiene issues. Noticed the female working there was in middle of cleaning dishes when I went there on a Sunday evening. Did not noticed her washing hands after doing the dishes, just wiped it off with a cloth. Will give the place one more try and see if I see something different. If I still notice some unhygienic practice then will tick it off my list.

The food is good, friendly workers but the place is SUPPERHOT!!! I throw my food away and left the store. No AC, no fan. Nothing! its like you enter into a big oven. Maybe the health department should check on this place for the temperature. Don’t be so greedy man its summer and supper hot. Put an AC into your damn store so your customers will come back again.

2 stars for the tacos. 4 stars for the bakery items. The tacos are meh. The meats have a strange flavor to them. I tried the carne asada and the al pastor. I’m not sure how to describe it exactly, but it just tasted weird. I feel like most tacos elsewhere taste somewhat the same and consistent so I was caught off guard here. I didn’t like the tacos very much. The bakery items on the other hand… soooo good and addicting!!! They have huge variety of breads and pastries and everything I’ve tried is on point. Bread is soft and fresh and perfectly sweet. The pastries are unique and delicious. Service is really friendly and food comes out fast. Great place to grab a quick bite if you’re in the area. I need to come back and try their tortas.

Wonderful baked goods, but even more amazing tacos! They’re cooked to order, and they are delicious. We make it a regular stop and head to ISO Beer for drinks and am always so happy.

My first time trying a torta! I love their carne asada torta! But their burritos and pastries are delicious too :) This place is located in downtown sj and it is a bit small and not very clean, but the food here is very good! There’s no parking lot, but plenty of street parking, but that can still be a struggle. If you’re in the area come give this place a try! They have another bigger location down story road in east sj :)

I always get the Chicken Torta con Huevos loaded with EVERYTHING on it because it’s the best. It’s so good I’ve never been tempted to try anything else on the menu. I’m sure the rest of it is great, too — but if you haven’t tried a Torta from Mexico Bakery then you better not be claiming you know what a Torta is supposed to be! The place is a hole-in-the-wall, so you know their food has to be bomb. The Torta used to be a steal at around $ 6 but they’ve wisened up and it’s closer to $ 8 now. Obv worth it. I enjoy practicing my Spanish listening skills with the Soccer games or Telenovelas they run on the plasma TV while I wait for the food to be cooked. It’s fresh every time and worth the 10 – 12 minute wait. Enjoy :D

This is #6 on the list of Top Places to PIGOUT in downtown San Jose. Yes, the place may look like a dump. But guess what? There’s 2 places that Latinos who cook the food at the more upscale restaurants nearby eat at. Bakery Mexico #2 is actually one of them. Don Pedro’s on Post St is the other. Straightforward, working-class food without all the upper middle-class fluff, reminiscent of Chiaramonte’s Deli up over on 13th Street, and The City Fish 2 streets over. The burritos are not my favorite here. But the tamales are pretty good. And the masa huaraches too. The meaty $ 6 torta sandwiches are more filling than any Subway $ 5 footlong ever will be. –or a Lee’s Sandwich.

This place is easy to miss, but that would be a regrettable mistake! Hands down the best tacos I have ever had! Not sure what they season /marinate their meat in, but it is mouth-watering, mind-blowing flavor. So far, I have enjoyed their tacos, tamales, and burritos. Drum roll, their food is dirt cheap too. They can definitely afford to raise their prices and I don’t think anyone would complain. I haven’t had any of their baked goods yet, but they look tasty too. This place comes highly recommended!

Comfort Food Empanada w/tuna $ 2 My family loves Empanadas which are baked savory turnovers, a Spanish food. It normally comes with beef, potato and peas. But this one was filled with tuna and potato, different. The size was extra large, about 2X the normal size. The pastry was much better than expected. The tuna looked and tasted like salmon. Maybe the cashier didn’t get the change notice from the kitchen? As you can see from pic, it does not look perfectly machine made. Instead, it looks handmade, imperfect shape. It also tastes handmade, quite good. I ate it for breakfast and I was full. For 2 bucks, I’m coming back to stock up my freezer. Then rebake for anytime snacks or easy togo lunches. I found treasure… Flan $ 3.25 They had 2 kinds on display, a traditional looking, while the other in a plastic cup, more gelatin like. I asked which one was better. The baker happened to walk by and said he prefers the traditional one. It was thick and creamy with just the right amount of sauce, not too sweet. There was a hint of roasted sugar flavor. I ate it for lunch and I was full. Believe me, this is better than Crème Brule in fine restaurants.

Not thrilled with their tortas. In my honest opinion they are not all that great, I ordered a chicken torta and it fell apart before I could take my third bite. The chicken had no flavor whatsoever and they really need to invest in some better accommodations. I mean, if they are going to offer seating, then they should at least make it somewhat comfortable. Some of the chairs are all busted and the tables wobbly. I did not try their pan dulce and my hubby actually liked his torta so I gave them a 3 when i really wanted to give them a 2. With so many Mexican Taquerias and Panaderias, I really don’t see the need to come back to this place.

Amazing torta. Simply amazing. I think I’ll still take Angelou’s over this place but it’s amazing nonetheless. I am so happy I am a Californian because we are so blessed with so many good Mexican places.

The crown jewel of this place is the torta. As many others have said, it’s a huge sandwich piled high with meat of your choosing, huge pieces of avocado, cheese, tomatoes, and onions. I like the cuban torta topped off with milanesa(you’ll have to ask for it because it’s not on the menu). Aside from the banh mi, I can’t think of another sandwich that’s priced under $ 6 and leaves you feeling full. The ladies make em’ fast and serve em’ hot. Forget Subway’s dinky $ 5 subs. Get your $ 6 tortas here and have a satisfying lunch.

This place is a hole in the wall. I’m glad someone pointed out that it was a couple of doors from the Grub Shack or I don’t think I would have ever found this place… Upon walking in we noticed that the majority of the tables were dirty. The counter space was not tidy. A young woman was tending the register and doing the cooking. I did notice that she washed her hands after she rung up customers. Her cooking area was a mess. The kitchen floor was a mess. I normally would have walked out because the place didn’t look too clean, but I was curious to see what all the hype was about. And I prayed that I wouldn’t get sick. We of course had to order the milanesa tortas. I saw that she took the bread out of a big black garbage bag that was sitting on the corner. Perhaps they should store the bread in something else?! She took the meat cutlets already breaded from a tray in the fridge and put them on the grill. She also put the bread on the grill to toast. There were 3 other customers waiting for their order so she was busy, which would probably explain the dirty kitchen and tables. She’s manning the entire place! Needless to say she didn’t look happy and she wasn’t friendly at all. We order our tortas de milanesa to go, and decided to eat them in the car. I’d rather eat in my clean car than the dirty tables =). The tortas had plenty of meat, tomatoes, onions, queso fresco(fresh Mexican cheese), very little avocado, mayonnaise and mustard. They were huge and good. A bit on the greasy side, but that’s to be expected with a milanesa. Overall, I’m glad we came to try it out, I’m a sucker for tortas de milanesa, but the messiness of the place really turned me off. I might be back if they hired more staff to clean up the place and help the poor girl out.

OK, This place has been on my bookmarks for about a year. So I finally headed over and gave it a shot. If I were walking by on the street, there’s no way I would have headed in to try it. It has about a zero on the curb appeal scale. Once inside there’s a small sign that shows the kind of sandwiches they sell. I chose pork and said«si» when they asked if I wanted everything on it. The sandwich came out, the bread was warm and flakey, and it was quite a big sandwich. Taste-wise, I’m giving it a 4. The pork was a bit dry, but the extras made up for it. Quite a filling sandwich with good taste, although I would have preferred a bit stronger taste of seasoning. Atmosphere in the shop is like a small deli counter without the meats in it, and a few tables and chairs. Again, no curb appeal, but worth the shot. Oh, if you’re wondering where it is, it’s right next to the Grub Shack which you can try too! See my review on that place.
