I was sitting here enjoying my lemongrass fried tofu($ 1⁄5 pieces) and warm tofu with ginger syrup($ 3/large, $ 1.50/small) thinking about what I was going to say in my 3 – 4 star Unilocal review. «Great prices…» «Friendly service…» «Wide variety of entrees for vegetarians too…» Then I went to go pour myself a glass of soymilk($ 2.50/half gallon) which I picked up the same day along with the tofu snacks mentioned above, when I noticed the soymilk looked«thick». My boyfriend and I removed the seal and poured it out only to find that the entire container had gone bad! I grabbed it out of the fridge where the other cold stuff was kept, but how long had this soymilk been in there??? There was no «packed on date» or «drink by date» but I just assumed soymilk at these kinda tofu places would always be made fresh and restocked frequently. 2 stars for losing all my trust. T_T

Still my boyfriend and I’s go-to for bun bo hue. Love the vegetarian/vegan theme as well. We go for #7, but will report back on the others when we try them. Tips: order medium spiciness or higher if you normally like your bun bo hue about mild to medium. The place also sells what looks like legit vietnamese brand instant noodle and vietnamese desserts and drinks.

I come here at least every other week! Food is very tasty and they’re open early which is a plus for me since I work night shift. I usually stop by here on my way home. Only down side is they’re Bums sleeping on the side walk, but they haven’t really bothered me yet

Different than the typical Vietnamese Tofu shop which sells fried tofu and sweet tofu. They have hot trays with healthier food like stuffed bitter melon. Very interesting mix of combo plates and soups you don’t find at the bigger places. They have vegetarian eggrolls and soups also. Eggrolls are little sweet. Great place to go for cheap lunch/dinner and takeout. No MSG. $ 2.50 for quart of fresh soymilk w/or wo sugar. Regular customer when in the area. Great variety to try and copy at home if you like it.

This place is absolutely fire flames incredible for a vegetarian restaurant. I am not a vegetarian by any stretch but this is one of my favorite places in the Bay. There’s almost a zen like atmosphere in the restaurant. I bring friends here without telling them it’s vegetarian and 99% of the time, they leave with Dong Phuong bookmarked for future visits. Very impressed indeed.

«bún măng» and«bún bò hue» taste really good. Mixed vegetables that come with the soup is fresh. Overall, friendly employees, fast service, great food at reasonable price, and clean restaurant. Update: steamed rice is dried. eating inside is quiet hot!

Whenever i can, i will NOT eat meat. i just love the feeling of not having to eat meat. i know, weird me. anyways, this place is the same owner as the one on Mckee that i reviewed on. they basically have the same flavors and food. you should really try the Bun Hue here, its like the perfect spice. its amazing how they can mimic the taste of meat without actually having the meat. place is really tiny so i dont think you would want to eat here. TIP: order the big jug of soy milk and chug that down rather than buying the small size for 50 cents less

Can’t believe I passed this place up for so long. I’ve been going to a place everyone knows about down the street and completely missed this until I read a sign on the back of the building saying they do Vietnamese Vegetarian. Not super happy with my last experience down the street I decided to pop my head in this place. So this place is not really a restaurant so to say. It has a counter with an glass enclosure of many vegetarian items to buy and take out. In fact most people are coming in the purchase items and leave. That said the lady here is super friendly and asked me what I wanted. I told her I like spice and wanted some noodle bowl. She of course led me to get their Bun Bo Hue which I always love so that’s what I went with. Now this place is great in that you can change anything you want to accommodate your needs. I don’t like the thick rice noodles so I sub’d the thin yellow noodles. I also asked for spicy as most vegetarian places don’t know the word spice. These people know spice so be careful on getting what your wishes are :)(see picture of the peppers on top). The broth is very flavorful and was extremely spicy. I think between the weather being in the 80’s to the spicy soup, I must have been sweating as much as I do in my Bikram yoga class. Anyway this place has adamant followers who drop by constantly every time I’m there. In fact one guy was crying because they ran out of the coconut rice pouches they sell there. He raved so much about them I had to try them when they were back in stock. A little sweet for my taste but they went well with the spicy noodle soup. I also see their spring rolls fly off the shelves even though I’ve yet to try them. Also they are very generous to let you try any of the items in the case so don’t hesitate to ask. Overall this place is worth checking out, it’s nothing fancy but it’s a fun local viet experience. The kind of place I like to support.

Needed a place to eat out alone and since I was in the SJ area I had to get me some Vietnamese food. Tried going to some of the more reviewed places but because of bad traffic basically ended up here so I came in and I am sooooo happy I did. The main man behind the counter politely took my order. I got my food pretty fast. I ordered the Bun Ca Ri and it was DELICIOUS. I polished off the entire bowl and drank every last drop of soup in there. The tofu was flavorful, the spiciness level was on point, and everything about it was perfect. When I ordered water they brought me cold diluted tea instead which I actually prefer to water but it was a bit off-putting to see yellow in a cup when you expect water. As I sat there a few small groups of Vietnamese people came in. I was clearly the only person in the store who didn’t speak Vietnamese so I felt a bit out of place. But at least i knew the food was authentic. Overall, absolutely delicious and a great place to eat alone.

Bun bo hue, on point. Always order as extra spicy with extra lime. You can find almost any Vietnamese dish you may be craving at this little spot. Everything is super cheap(CASHONLY!) Owner is sweet and personable. Vegan soul food, ya’ll.

This is my new favorite place for vegetarian food. This is a small little place that you can get delicious food. I had tried couple items and really like it. Actually they have another restaurant in Mc KEE San Jose, but the food is not that good very salty. This restaurant here is much better taste.

Great prices and delicious true viet vegetarian dishes. I’m a huge fan when it comes to supporting family owned businesses. Their bun bo hue, bun mam, and phở are my favorite. This place gets packed on full moon praying days though because it’s prayer day, where everyone eats vegetarian that day. My parents and I have been regulars here for I don’t know how many years.

This place will charge you $ 0.50, $ 1 or $ 2 more if you are non vietnamese or you are and you don’t speak much of vietnamese. I got three medium carry out containers of food, usually $ 3 each with my girlfriend who speaks fluent vietnamese. I went by myself and got charged $ 14: $ 4, $ 4 and $ 6. I knew I was being over charged, but didn’t want to cause a scene for a few bucks. But I am not coming back. I experienced the same thing with the same restaurant on McKee. I think the restaurants are owned by the same family.

I love their bun bo hue. Always good. Bun rieu chay was also good. They have a pretty wide variety of vegetarian options. Lunch is 2 entrees and rice for 6 bucks. Not bad at all. Their stuff is usually pretty good. The fake fish and ham is kind if expensive. A dollar a piece when You can buy a whole roll of veggie ham for a few dollars.

This place should really close their business. Bad customer service and the old lady is really rude! Do not go here!!!

It was surprisingly cheap and really tasty! My girlfriend and I got the lemon grass«chicken»(I couldn’t tell if it was tofu or wheat gluten-based) for $ 3 and another not-on-the-menu item in a large container for $ 6. Rice was $ 3 for a LARGE two person heap. I know what normal lemon grass chicken tastes like and it definitely had the flavors of lemon grass, while the chicken was doing its best to be chicken(the texture was like jello, but more solid?); regardless, it was really really tasty. The not-on-the-menu item was a mix of tofu and wheat gluten in some kind of sauce. It was really addicting to eat, but loved the lemon grass item better. For both of us, it came out to $ 12 total; I would totally recommend this place and the lemon grass«chicken» or the non-chicken version. If you optimized costs by getting a large container for $ 6 and rice for $ 3, it’ll be $ 9 total(tax included) for two people. Oh yeah, cash only. Items already include tax, and you do NOT have to dine-in. We did take out.

Dong Phoug Tofu doesn’t look the typical tofu dispensary. not much tofu on display or it’s hidden amongst the prepped entrees, pastries, pictured noodle dishes, and the referigated goods. fried items here too. eats: vegetable spring roll(2 pieces with dipping sauce, 2) –clear cellophane wrapper, not fried like the imperial roll –very fresh though eaten in the evening –compare with $ 5-$ 6 at a booth at the farmers market 5 star for value. leftovers: –parking terrible in the strip mall may be worth it to try to find a space.

the lovely woman owner liu, and friendly customers at this branch. we go for the curry phở and the gluten and tofu rice plate. liu lets me bring my own brown rice… fast service, great prices, food which is neither too oily or salty, and a fine selection of take away items, including store made tofu and soy milk. friendly, its a neighborhood hang out, and im glad to be a part of it every few weeks.
