Unfortunately Halan has closed as we were coming here today to have lunch. It looks like a new restaurant will be taking its place. Sad to see it go

This was a great phở place. The soup base was never oily. Sorry to see them close :(

Great hidden, hole-in-the-wall place. Come for your Vietnamese fix. They offer everything from rice plates to noodle soups and even entrees. They even offer Bun Bo Hue on the weekends. Its a must try!

If you’re looking for cheap Vietnamese food, this is the place. I usually go for their rice plates, which always has generous portions. Service is quick and friendly — has a very neighborhood feel. The place is clean, if not a bit outdated. But the food is good — I really like their eggs rolls. My suggestion is to add the fried egg when ordering a rice plate.

Really like a 2.8… Went here on a Saturday afternoon. Place was empty– just 2 other tables occupied. Sat down in a nice booth. Place was clean. Server came up with menus. Asked if we’d like a drink. She brought waters. Sister ordered chicken phở. Said it was good. Filled with noodles and the broth was savory. Sis said it tasted fresh. Chicken was a bit tough. Overall– about a 3.0. Came with a nice plate of herbs and bean sprouts. I had a combo rice plate with chicken, shrimp and eggrolls. Plate came with 2 shrimp, 1 eggroll cut in half and a mound of tough chicken. In all honesty, I don’t even know if it was really chicken. I am not being sarcastic. It was tough in a way that I had never experienced. It was very brown, had loads of tendon still weaved thru the«chicken», and was basically inedible. It was very old… :-( There were no herbs on the plate(I’m used to chopped cucumber, mint, cilantro, daikon, carrot. etc etc) This plate came with 1 slice of cucumber and a slice of carrot. It was very weird. If I ever go back, I’ll have phở. My sis let me taste the broth. It was good. I just wish there were more herbs on my plate and the chicken tasted like chicken. Unfortunately, the rice plate food was not fresh.

This is my go to place whenever I want a quick phở fix because it’s down the street and fairly cheap. Their vermicelli is also really good too. It is family owned so the staff is super friendly. It’s a small little restaurant with almost all booths and a few tables. It’s very nice and peaceful. Nothing bad to say about this place. I’ve never had to wait for a table so that’s good too.

I used to go here often. I decided to come back here, more for their egg rolls. I had their phở and to me it smelled funny but could not figure it out. Towards the end I realized I was smelling the star anise. It has a licorice smell and is used in phở broth. It did not taste bad, just has a licorice smell. I thought the phở was decent. I do really like their egg rolls, nice crisp to it and good size. I think they use more of the authentic Vietnamese wrapper rather than the Chinese one. Though the phở is decent I bumped it up to 4. stars for the egg roll and because they are a family owned business.

Why are they screaming beat music out of the kitchen? Is this a restaurant or the flea market? I refused to order soup, but my wife was sick and didnt want to go anywhere else! I ordered crab puffs! Shit! Turn off the damn music!

I was Craving some Phở. So I thought I would give my local neighborhood Phở place Halan out. Halan is located in a Old Strip Mall that has a lot of Asian specialties markets. The Anchor Store is Foodnet an Asian Grocery Store. I rolled to Halan in my Whip White Rabbit. I parked in the ample parking lot . I rolled in to Halan and grabbed a table. I was then greeted by my Server and presented with a Glass of water and a Menu. Which I perused . Halan has a lot of Old school Booths to sit in. They also have a LCDTV for entertainment. It has Surround sound hooked up to it I ordered the Number 1 Fried Egg Rolls and the Halan Special PHO Small Bowl . The Egg Rolls Came first. They were Delightful. Packed full of Flavor and fresh ingrediants. This is a must order. Next out was my Phở the Ingrediants were very fresh also. The Broth was light but packed full of Flavor. It was a good bowl of Phở. Halan is a Hidden Neighborhood Gem . I paid by Visa Card and Rolled Out.

My husband’s fave place, his ultimate dish is the beef wrap with onion! Love it! Very tasty, phở tastes great too. This is a small family owned business, we’ve met the daugther’s owners who help on weekends, she is very nice as well. The food is good, tasty, affordable, fast service! Shame on all the bad reviews i see here. Try this resto and be your own judge! :)

My first time trying Phở and I’m hooked. I dislike most Asian food that isn’t mainstream fast food. My friends would always go here to get Phở, and I always ended up getting a rice plate with beef. I finally succumbed and had my first Phở bowl here. I loved it, surprisingly it was pretty good, the noodles were good, the meat awesome. But I was blown away by the taste when you put rooster sauce so it becomes spicy. Its that next level shit! If I ever have a Phở craving I always go here. Give this place a try!

My new lunch time spot for the Marina district of San Leandro. I’ve been working in this area for about a year and wish I had visited this place much much sooner. I love that this place has booths that are comfortable so that one can really enjoy their lunch. Another great way to enjoy your lunch is having to not have to listen to the crap that other people talk about when you’re trying to enjoy your meal. At Halan, the place isn’t overly busy that you end up hearing other people’s conversations. You can enjoy a nice quiet meal. The food is delicious. The short ribs. mmmmm mmm tasty! The vermicilli… OMG!!! They have the best vermicilli ever! I will eat at Halan every day until my office moves. .which will be in about a month’s time. Until then I look forward to enjoying my lunch at Halan. Oh. and btw, the people who work there are polite, nice and chill. Unlike some of the other restaurants within the area.

We all need a good neighborhood noodle joint. Thank goodness I found Halan. I love having the option to come here to get my soup noodle fix. I ordered the seafood egg noodle soup. I think for a regular size bowl, the portions were very generous with at least 4 prawns and calamari swimming in a broth full of flavor. It’s interesting that the soup also comprised of broccoli, water chestnuts, some pieces of celery and carrots, etc. I prefer the conventional egg rolls over the ones here. I’m not sure what kind of wrapping they use, but it lacked the thickness of the regular wrapper. The fried egg rolls here came with a dipping sauce that was a bit too watery and flavorless to my liking. It comes in 6 pieces per order. My total for both was about $ 14.

I came here with a coworker of mine for lunch. I had the small phở ga. The phở was not bad, the broth was flavorful and there was a generous amount of chicken. The phở didn’t leave me craving more(like Le Soleil usually does) but it was satisfying. Prices here were average for a phở place-mainly under $ 10 and they have a selection of rice plates also. Wouldnt mind returning to try more dishes

Tucked off into the side corner of the Food Net Plaza, Halan is a little piece of PHO heaven for a decent price and excellent service. It’s family owned and very cozy. You get to seat yourself as you walk in since it’s not usually bustling with people and there are many booths. It’s always crazy warm inside the restaurant, so an encouragement to get their thai tea, which is delicious and sweet like it should be. Onto more interesting things … +Menu is simple, with pictures prices and descriptiosn +Halan specials are about a dollar more, with lots more and goodness +Thai Tea like I mentioned +Bun Bo Hue(only on weekends) +Free parking since it’s in a mall +No extra charge for credit cards +Take out available +Flat screen tv I had the Halan Special with shrimp, egg rolls, etc etc(refer to picture: D) the eggrolls were super crispy and stuffed with stuffing! The Halan phở special is pretty good. I like how everything is fresh and generous portions. That’s what I strive for in a lot of places that I eat for good $ and good food and lots of it!

My family and I are regulars here 1 because it’s close to home and 2 because it tastes good. They always remember that my dad hates cilantro and my mom loves tripe. Here are somethings I highly recommend: +shrimp spring rolls. Pretty standard. I indulge in the peanut sauce and don’t be afraid to triple dip. +if you get the fried egg rolls, it’s not the healthiest choice. BUT if you do get it, it’s delicious and crunchy and great. Wrap that big leafy green garnish around it and nom it. +like all phở places, get your steak on the side(if you’re not afraid of raw meat) and cook it in your broth to your own preference. +bbq pork chop dish is thumbs up. +lemongrass chicken is my favorite. Thumbs and toe thumbs and your mother’s thumbs up. +the seafood egg noodles for a healthier tasting broth. +utilize the lime. Get Phở-ed up :)
