The sushi quality was good. Everything came out tasting really fresh. I had the lion king roll which was by far the best roll I ordered. The venue was really small and had only about 15 tables and had a lot of people waiting to be seated. The one thing that leaves out that last star is the service. They had us wait a long time until someone greeted us and took our drink order. Overall though, the food was good, the service was slow.

Finally had the chance to try. Multiple times, lines are long or schedule did not work out. Solid spot. Their spicy scallop hand roll is spot on and probably the best in the East Bay IMO. Good amount of scallop with a perfect spicy sauce and avacado slices. 2 – 3 of these and it fills you up. The red dragon was a solid roll and the crazy kevin. The bento lunch selection is quite good as well. Highly recommend, but looks like there are wait times different parts of the day. Worth the wait though.

The food was excellent, service was fantastic! They allowed us to swap out shrimp with other fish(and asparagus in one roll). So accommodating. They had training chopsticks for the child at our table. Wish they had more options for non-alcohol beverages, but can’t really complain. Food and service were on point!

This seems to be a popular place. Had the bento box lunch. 2 items were plenty. Great service. Very casual. Not dinner with a date location.

Came in on a holiday roughly about an hour before closing and for a small spot had to write my name in for seating. Upon being seated me and the family made our orders and was served fairly quickly. The place was pretty busy but the restaurant was a bit small. Tried the super lion king and bento box, the portions are fair and the price for what you get pretty much average. The food itself was great and the for the most part being a holiday the waiters and waitresses were up in spirits. The sushi was fresh and the twist to the lion king roll was unexpected for such a large roll. Only critique was that the rolls weren’t rolled tight and seemed to fall apart easily. No biggie my sushi craving was quenched. Nice thing is that they are located by the 24 hour fitness so I can pop in after a workout and get some grub.

Came back to try their sushi rolls and loved it. It was hard to choose which rolls to order because there were so many choices and they all sounded yummy. We got the island, white tuna lover and the ichiban and all were really good. The fish was fresh and generous. The avocado was super creamy. The sauces complimented well. The rolls were also a really good size. Service was good. The waitresses were attentive, checked up on us, and frequently filled our waters.

The food here is reasonably priced and pretty good! I was craving a chirashi bowl, and the one here definitely hit the spot! Our waitress was also very attentive! She constantly checked if we were doing alright and refilled our cups throughout our meal!

Best place for sushi close to home! Seriously, so glad Rock n Roll exists. Korean-run businesses will cut the sashimi nice and fat, which is what we look for when we go and get sushi. Their rolls are all very well assorted. Wife’s favorite is the Fisherman’s Wharf. I’m a bento guy, and I am very pleased with theirs here. The Alaska roll in a bento is a nice break away from your typical cali roll, and it saves you a buck from opting out to get sashimi. Miso is nice and clear here. Service is great, never had any problems. Even took friends here and they are hard to please but Rock n Roll suited them, too. If you don’t want to wait though, then don’t come right before they close before their dinner set; get there early, like 11am or noon because the wait list gets long around 1.

For a Sunday night, the restaurant was pretty packed(often a good indicator) and we had a little bit of a wait for a table for 2. There is a list in the front where you write your name down, and even though 3 parties were ahead of us we waited only about 5 minutes. The waitresses were very quick and efficient at getting everyone seated. Now, on to the food: Dragon roll: SO big! At usual sushi restaurants, you get about 6 small pieces. At Rock N Roll, they give you 9 very large and generous pieces, so big that it didn’t even fit in my Instagram frame, heh. The roll itself was not bad, the spicy tuna wasn’t the most flavorful and the inside was similar to a california roll except it had shrimp tempura as well. I would probably order a roll that had more raw fish next time because many reviews have vouched for the freshness here. But I have to give them props for packing so much in the roll and not being stingy with their ingredients like most sushi places.

If I could, I would give this place 3.5 stars. When I’m in the mood for rolls, this place is good. When it comes to sashimi, they cut the slices way too big for my preference. Overall it’s pretty good but nothing to write home about. A lot of rolls covered in a lot of sauce with a lot of different toppings/fillings.

Food: –Lion King 10⁄10 rolled properly, perfect amount of sauce –White Tuna Lover 9⁄10 light garlic taste, fresh white tuna, but the roll was wrapped pretty sloppy. Fell apart when we picked it up –3 item bento 6⁄10 tempura sauce was bland, tonkatsu was mediocre, but the Alaska roll and tempura were good Service: the waitresses were nice and attentive. The food didn’t take very long to arrive even though there were a decent amount of tables. However, I had to take a star off for the wait. The waitress did say there was going to be a 25 minute wait which my boyfriend and I didn’t mind but it ended up being a 45 minute wait.(We wassss hongryyy lol)

I’ve only been here two or three times, but the last two times, one being yesterday and the previous one sometime late last year, they have had their doors wide open to air out the restaurant instead of turning on the ac. It honestly makes no sense why they’re so cheap and refuses to turn on the ac. It ruins the dining experience because we are sweating and it’s honestly not that fun trying to constantly swat away the flies that hovers around your food. Food is decent for this area, but would be borderline mediocre in comparison, as you head into Oakland, Alameda, or Fremont. The pieces of fish that goes on top of the rolls do not taste fresh as the texture is a bit off, a little too soft and smushy for being tuna and white tuna. The price is a tad overpriced as well, especially for this area. $ 14 for eight pieces of «white tuna lover» or «hamachi lover» is quite expensive when the outside fish pieces are thin and not of great quality. I would have given them 3 stars, but deducted 1 star for having to constantly swatting away the dang flies trying to land on my dinner.

This place is SOOOOYUMMMMY! I remember YEARS ago, they kept changing ownerships because the place wasn’t doing so well. But now, I can definitely see this place lasting. This place beats Fat Fish, hands down! The price of the rolls are fair. They have a HUGE variety of rolls to choose from. My friends and I decided to get the Crazy Kevin, OMG, and Julie’s favorite. THe waiter told us those were the most popular rolls, so we decided to try them all out. If you really enjoy sashimi, the Crazy Kevin is definitely the roll for you. It was tuna, salmon and yellowtail all wrapped nicely in a roll. All the fish tasted fresh and delicious. This roll is my personal favorite! The OMG and Julie’s favorite roll were also super yummy. Julie’s favorite had a very nice crunchy tempura flakes. The OMG roll is kind of like a fancy California Roll. It includes crab and avocado on the inside, and spicy tuna, deep fried unagi and scallions on top. It was a good combination! The service is also really good, despite the many people and the crowded restaurant. They were very friendly and constant checked up on us to make sure everything was okay. Not in a nagging kind of way, but enough to not leave us hanging. Overall a great experience.

Whenever I drive past Rock N Roll the line during dinner is always out the door! I’ve been here maybe three or four times and they never disappoint! The staff is super friendly and attentive. I came home from work and was craving sushi so I called in 10 minutes before they closed to get ready for dinner and ordered a poke bowl! And let me tell you it was delicious! No more having to drive to San Ramon or San Jose area for poke bowls!

Came here for lunch with the residents from the retirement community I work at, and we were all fans! the reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because seating is way limited. there’s only a handful of tables, which isn’t enough to accommodate large parties or many small parties at the same time. even for a party of 3, we had to wait 10 – 15 minutes to be seated. another star got docked because for bento boxes, they don’t allow double ups. you are only able to order items from the list they have ONCE. one of my residents wanted 3 items: 2 california rolls and one of the teriyaki chicken, but that wasn’t allowed. not sure why they are strict on this policy… on the flip side, their sushi’s really good ! I ordered the Alaskan roll(salmon, avocado). I usually would order and eat way more than this, but I had already eaten my home-packed meal prior to going. One resident of mine ordered the 2 item bento box with teriyaki chicken and California roll. she really loved hers. the bento box serving was also quite large! Way more than enough to fill you up! The other resident ordered the sushi special. She’s a Japanese lady who definitely knows her stuff, and she was really satisfied with her food. she said the fish is fresh and tasty! Both residents loved their miso soup. I hope to return in the future to try out their other fantastic looking rolls instead of the one simple one I had.

I haven’t been a big sushi fan for to long. Matter of fact only about 2 years now. With that being said, I have always played it safe and most have only done the baked rolls with stuff I like. The other night I ventured out of my comfort zone and tried a new roll. I ordered the Floresta roll. It had shrimp and cucumber on the inside with salmon and spicy crab on top. I loved it! Great roll with lots of great flavor that wasn’t over powering. I also ordered the Bay Scallops roll incase I didn’t like my first roll. The Bay Scallops roll was very good too! I left STUFFED! Service was ok and the place was very clean. Music was playing which was a bit loud for me because it makes everyone else talk louder, but overall good experience. Prices for the rolls are very reasonable. I will definitely be back!

Friends and I have been here a few times and the food has been above average. It’s a bit expensive for what they offer and their quality. I usually get their ramen or their udon which is pretty good and satisfies my cravings. The last time we went, Boyfriend got the poke bowl and it wasn’t that great. It looks and sounds delicious, but the rice is hard, the fish doesn’t taste fresh and it is chewy, the sauce is a tad too sweet and the other veggies also don’t taste fresh. The seaweed salad is probably from Costco. This place is very much average to slightly above average. My usual staples for sushi/udon were closed on Sunday noon-afternoon for lunch, so this was the alternative. Atmosphere: 3⁄5 Food: 2.5÷5 Service: 3⁄5(actually pretty slow) Over all experience: 2.75÷5

My boyfriend’s family usually frequents Z Sushi in San Leandro, but the quality at that restaurant has gone down. I was delighted when we tried Rock N Roll, and found it to be 100x better than other locations in the area. It’s definitely my go-to spot for sushi when I’m in Castro Valley. We rarely order rolls that are baked or covered with sauces. We usually order a sashimi moriawase, negihama, spicy tuna roll, and tempura. The quality of the fish was good, much better than most locations. I could eat salmon sashimi for days. We’ve also tried some of their speciality rolls, like Julie’s Favorite, Warriors, Cherry Blossom, and others. They’re good, but I prefer sashimi over rolls. You should expect a wait when you come here though. People are already lined up before it even opens. The location is small, so it’s not ideal for large groups. Come here on date night instead!

Meh, about a 3 based on my first time here. Don’t get me wrong, the food wasn’t bad… However, I have had way better sushi, and it could very well be that I didn’t pick good choices. Hawaiian Poki salad: –huge portion for a salad –you can get it with assorted fish and they is plenty of fish they are generous!!! –salad tasted a little bitter to my liking, it was a little spicy and maybe the red cabbage gave it a little bitterness. Orange blossom roll: –standard roll, nothing to rave about… Was a bit dry for some reason. Green tea is also warm and yummy to wash down your food. And to top it off I think this was the best part of the meal was the green tea ice cream, I’m a sucker for that!!! So delicious! 2 people, 1 scoop is plenty enough! Overall, my experience was decent and pretty standard staff was great, the food was just ok nothing stood out to me however if I was in the area I might stop here again to try out something new perhaps a soup? Someone ordered one next to me which looked delicious. Until next time…
