This place is perfect for quick Japanese sushi takeout. Sushi tastes pretty good and prices are very reasonable. My favorites are their Lion King Roll and Super Rainbow Roll. However, if you want sashimi, there are better places to go to. Staff are friendly and service is fast.

While waiting outside for a table I heard a baby(toddler really) squealing with laughter. I thought, that’d be a really funny sound coming out of a grown man. The fish is good too.

Hands down the cheapest sushi you can find in the bay. Not the best quality but still pretty decent and hey, no diarrhea yet. Hehe Fat fish is kind of like a fast food concept sushi joint. You order at the counter, get your table number, find yourself a table, and someone will bring your food over to you. Their menu is huge! They have a wide variety of rolls and more.(i.e, bento boxes, nigiri, sashimi, ramen, donburis, etc.) They have a self serve water corner and free tea upon request. Service is hit or miss, your food will either come out fairly quick or they forget and you end up waiting forever. They have a lot of fruit flies, especially during warmer weather which can be annoying. Honestly, the rolls here are not bad at all! It’s flavor is comparable to the higher end sushi places, the only thing you’re compromising is the quality but like I said, it’s not that bad. After coming to fat fish, I think twice about going to other places because fat fish is cheaper and sometimes, they even tastes better.

The most low price with highest quality sushi u can find in all nearby towns. They make excellent sushi and has a great variety to choose from. My favorites are: The lion king(obviously), poki salad, bay scallop, and their sashimis

I’m not a sushi snob. I love sushi & every chef is different. I do go to a lot of places & they have their own presentation and taste, which is fine. So this is actually my second time going there. I got the same thing both times(lion king & dragon roll). Both times I ordered take out as well. They looked thrown together & the rolls are falling apart but they tasted okay. I tried it again. It was worse then last time. Again presentation was thrown together. Second on my dragon roll all of the salmon was slimy and tough like it was the skin of the salmon and not the meat. Third in my lion king roll I found a little hard rock? I don’t know what it was maybe a seed? Maybe other people have had better experiences. Maybe I need to eat in instead of take out. All in all I will not be coming back.

TLDR: Really well priced sushi place with really bad sanitation issues. Reaaally reaaallly cheap sushi for the bay area both on a price/piece basis and on a quantity/price basis. The problem is, the place is also really really dirty. The tables always smell bad, there are always flies buzzing around, and the one time I dared go into the restroom was really scary. I remember the room being really dark and grimy, it smelled horrible, and the floor was slippery due to(most likely) years of unwash. Luckily the sanitation issues have never(visibly) affected the food. The fish still tasted pretty good, and I’ve never gotten food poisoning from eating their food. Although I would really label that as a «Pro». Whether or not the pros and cons balance out is really up to you to decide, although, I haven’t been back since I went to that bathroom.

This place is okay. I used to love going here, but it’s so different now. I should note that this restaurant now has a yellow passing conditional sign outside of their entrance door. So that’s not a good thing. Their portions used to be big to me, I was never able to finish my roll, but shockingly I finished my Big Cali(deep fried California roll). My sister ordered the fat fish roll and my dad ordered the power roll. I do like their prices for sushi, it is on the more affordable side. I would recommend this place for a quick fix of OKAY sushi, but know there are other places that are better near by. I will come back eventually when I need a quick order of sushi for lunch.

I really like this sushi spot my cousin brought me here for the lion king and the bento box which I thought was affordable and I was pretty satisfied with everything I ate .the workers here are pretty nice … There’s seating in the front and back with a restroom but it’s just one toilet for men and women… The parking is is good you can park in the street or in the back of the building…

I’ve been going to Fat Fish since my 1st year at CSUEB, so you know that’s real customer loyalty. Whenever I bring people to this spot, I always them«this will fulfill your sushi craving, but do not expect super high quality.» Which is true in this case, because most of their rolls are under $ 10. If you are a sushi fanatic and you have tried many upscale sushi restaurants you will probably suggest that this is between ¾ stars, but for a college student it is more than enough! There are so many good selections that I decided I will try my best to conquer the whole sushi menu. So far I have tried: Crunchie Roll(35) SOS(52) Santa Rita(66) Bay Scallop(26) I’m pretty sure I have tried others, but these are the rolls that I have tried recently. I really like the Bay Scallop because I love scallops and they give you a generous amount on top of the roll. I will be back!

This is the place to go when looking for sushi at an affordable price. The rolls are great and the food is good. The people that work at Fatfish are really friendly too. Favorite rolls include pink lady, heart attack, and red lion. Favorite dishes include chirashi sushi bowl, ten don, and to share — tempura sampler(I think that’s what it’s called). Tea is $ 0 and brought to the table upon request. Just an FYI, Orders are made at the counter in front, not by a waiter AND water and ice is self serve. It’s more convenient that way and keeps orders coming out at a smooth pace. The place is small and cozy so better to keep the walkways clear for the employees serving out the food. So far, I’ve like almost everything except the Ramen, it’s just not my favorite kind of ramen. Other than that, I’ve got to give this place 5 stars!

This place has pretty good sushi at an affordable price. The ambience is pretty laid back but that’s ok if you’re on a budget like me and you like good sushi. They have a great variety to choose from I’m still trying different things on the menu but I tend to stick to what I like… Tuna Scream. I read the Dynamite is good so I’m trying that today. Ambience: ok in my book Food: excellent Service: decent(you order before you sit down. I like that it’s faster) Highly recommended spot in San Leandro.

I wish I could say good things about this place like it used to be… I’ve been going there for over five years and Fat fish started out as a pretty decent place to grab some quick sushi, however the quality has taken a cliff dive to food hell. I ordered take out this time and it was practically when they first opened for the day. Fresh day fresh ingredients… or so you would think. Three rolls and a lot of dissatisfaction later, I boiled it down to a few disappointments. — Yesterday’s ingredients — the 80% of the avocado in the middle of the roll was grey.(And I’m not saying just kinda grey, like it was near graphite color) the rice was hard but, at least they were generous about that.(BTW, in sushi, being overly generous with rice on sushi roll is a bad thing…) — Are you even trying? — the display of rolls in sushi is a big deal. You aren’t just making food, it’s edible art. The rolls I received seemed so nonchalantly put together that it just seemed really half assed for maximum profit purposes. No offense but, Safeway is doing better in presentations than you(and in this rare case, I can’t believe I’m saying this but, even tastes better…) I could say more but I think this will suffice for the time being. I will not be visiting again any time in the near future. Lastly, a lot of good fish died for a poor cause today.

Affordable sushi without compromising the quality and taste. I always get their lion king and crunch roll(crunch on the outside). Service is good. The place is small and cozy. Parking is limited too.

Best sushi in San Leandro. Really big rolls. They take a while when busy but if you call ahead they will have it ready. Very wide selection of sushi rolls.

I am no longer a fat fish customer. This is how last night went… I ordered two rolls, both with no ginger. I hate ginger. The first roll comes out and I can tell they put ginger on the plate but removed it. What if I was allergic to ginger!?! Anyways… The second roll comes out and it has ginger on the plate. I handed the plate back to the waiter and said«I asked for no ginger». I kid you not, he takes his hand and reaches onto the plate with his bare hands to remove the ginger while I have the plate mid air. I said«it’s okay to take the ginger off the plate with your hand like that?» He says yes and walks off. I’m like wtf. At this point I don’t even want the roll. It was a San leandro roll under the deep fried section of the menu I ordered. When the waiter brought the roll to the table it had raw salmon on top.(not stated in the description) I politely ask for a refund and stated I didn’t know it was uncooked. The owner caught a attitude and offered to give me half my money back. After going back and forth with him he gave me a full refund. When I mention his employees remove unwanted items bare handed he shrugged his shoulders as if he didn’t care. I’ve never had to argue about a food order I didn’t want.

Despite the lack of design of the place, Fat Fish is decent. It’s definitely not my all time favorite place. Sometimes I do question the cleanliness, but if you can get past that, it’s a good place for a quick bite of sushi. My favorite is the rainbow roll. Simple, tasty, cheap, what more can you ask for? If you want a little more jazz with your sashimi, Pink Lady is the way to go. I highly recommend both. The prices is superb considering it’s sushi. It is a lot cheaper than 90% of the sushi places I’ve been to. Also, side tip: if you come here on a regular basis(say, weekly?), I recommend you buy a t-shirt from them. Then, every time you come in with the T shirt, you can get a free drink in the cooler!

Oh boy… I don’t want to offend my relatives who have Unilocal, but yikes! I was having an especially rough day one week. Being a school teacher… it happens… a lot. Well, I was trolling through Target and I ran into my older sister. We had a few words, parted ways, then she asked if I had dinner. She suggested Fat Fish, and since I had never been, I was game. I had heard that it was an order and pay first situation, which I wasn’t too excited about. I like to sit down and think about what I’m going to get without being pressured about someone waiting behind me. I was a little overwhelmed, and didn’t want to get anything I would regret, so I got the two item bento box. My sister said she would pay, «Happy Birthday,» but when I saw the total(like $ 16), I was like, «That’s for one person, right!?» I couldn’t believe how cheap. I was thinking that this was great! …Not so much. When the food came, I saw why it was so cheap. A sliver thin slice of teriyaki salmon, tiny pieces of sashimi, and very little salad and rice. The smallest portions I have ever had ANDITWASN’T GOOD. The salmon tasted good, but was overcooked. The sashimi did not even taste like fish. I forget what it tasted like, but I didn’t even want to finish the tiny bit I had to eat. This is not a sushi place. Sushi is a special thing that takes time and special care in the creation. This is a fast food version of sushi that should not exist. Sushi should not be ordered in haste, nor made with economy in mind. I have had some reasonable sushi places that still maintain the high standard of Japanese cuisine required to make sushi. Boo on you lazy Fat Fish Sushi.

Fat fish is now a staple for my friends and me. Whenever we don’t know where to get dinner, or are starving and craving some comforting Japanese food — fat fish is always the answer. I’ve now saved fat fishes phone number into my contacts just to make things easier. It has a small private lot, which is nice, but it can get crowded during rush times. There is an outside seating area, but I’ve never seen anyone eat out there before(though we usually come to fat fish at night). Inside, the restaurant is also small with booths around the sides. It has an alright feel, but we usually take our food to-go. When we do sit down, the service is also alright — it isn’t particularly slow, but it is not fast either. I love getting their sashimi salad and udon(any of them — even the veggie udon is great). Their seafood udon and ramen is my favorite. The ramen is a bit spicier, but both of them are huge and filled with seafood and noodles. My second favorite would probably be their miso ramen. The cherry blossom, the 49er’s, Big Cali roll, Philadelphia roll are popular with us. We’ve even gotten the small sushi platter which is perfect for 3 people(2 hungry guys and 1 hungry girl). The beef teriyaki bowl and the Oyaku donburi and they were both really good. The sashimi donburi is like a sashimi salad but bigger and with rice and an egg! Overall, we really like this place. It has decent quality for SUCH a low price and we have been here multiple times. I don’t even remember the count. I wouldn’t recommend to a friend separately, but I would definitely want to go with a friend. Ambiance: 3⁄5 Food: 4⁄5 Service: 3.5÷5 Overall Experience: 4⁄5(can’t go wrong with fat fish)
