Reliable mexican food, but nothing too special. I enjoyed the Chile Colorado entrée, but I liked the chips & salsa more. Margaritas are strong, although seem to be pricey($ 10 each) on the regular menu. With that said, I will definitely return here for HH. Way better than dinner in the dining room.

Cheap drinks on happy hour, but it smells like a sewage in this place and there were flys all over my food.

Felt like some good ol Mexican food and a margarita. I seriously would of given this trip 5 stars but damn man our waitress had ZERO personality. Service wasn’t bad… it wasn’t great… it was just ok. All I asks for a little interaction with the customers. I don’t need a show from you but say something!!! Anyway… the food was damn good and satisfying. Margaritas were nice and strong too.

Great Mexican food, even for delivery! I’ve been here multiple times, I had stopped coming for a couple years. Recently I ordered delivery from here and it was excellent! Which made me finally come back, and it’s now one of my favorite Mexican restaurants! I love the combination choices, when I saw they had rolled tacos I figured I’d give it a try. Usually everywhere I go I’m not a fan of the combo rolled tacos. This place is another story, I was extremely impressed! They were one of the best rolled tacos I’ve ever had! They were so crunchy and perfect. I also love there cheese enchiladas and crispy taco. The chili reano has a very unique flavor but it’s also pretty good. The chicken burrito is also one of my boyfriends favorite items here. They have a very small selection of margaritas there’s only about 5 on the menu. The outside patio does not have any heaters, so if you plan to sit outside during the evening be prepared, it gets chilly. Also the inside during weekends gets extremely loud, the patio is much more quiet and romantic. Service has been average, although one time when my boyfriend and I went we both ordered a 3 item combo. When we told our waiter what items we wanted he didn’t write anything down! We were scared our order wouldn’t come out right, but it did. Very impressive! The food overall is excellent and I’d recommend anyone to come try it.

Read the reviews before coming here, don’t let others fool you. This place had good food at good prices with amazing staff. Everyone was on the top of their game and very attentive. I honestly feel that customer service can make or break your business and this staff did a wonderful job. The burritos were more than filling, and the shrimp chimichangas were bombbbbb :)

Good food. Fun atmosphere. Good margaritas. Festive! The service was good, and I enjoyed this location better than the newer one in Escondido surprisingly. We’ve been going to this restaurant since it was the old one on Quince in Escondido and and it has always been fairly good to great. On Cinco de Mayo, we had no complaints. The wait was long to be seated, but heck… it was Cinco de Mayo and it was good!

Generally good food, but it’s hard to mess up Mexican food. I had the #2 combo, two cheese enchiladas. I really had to salt & pepper them. They were pretty bland.

Had a great meal on Mother’s Day with mom and her grandkids which are my kids. Shelby was our server and she was excellent, so bright and cheerful, knowledgeable and her attention to detail was excellent. Great atmosphere. Fun music. Good food.

So my husband and I frequent the lounge at the Escondido location and consistently have friendly memorable service and extremely consistent cuisine. Tonight because of where we were coming from we chose to dine at the San Marcos location. Guess what it’s Cinco de Mayo and therefore the place was packed. They have a VERY small bar top maybe 8 stools which was packed along with the open seating tables in the bar. That’s ok we expected that considering the day! We put our name in to get a table and the young lady said it would be about 30 minutes! While waiting we observed a well oiled machine manage the constant flow of guests walk through the door. The receptionists were friendly, kind and honest about wait times. They had a young woman walking around offering(appropriate aged guests) samples of margaritas and there was excellent entertainment by Jimmy and Enrique a local duo that can be found at many local restaurants. With all the chaos the staff remained cool and kind, we were sat in approximately 34 minutes(very reasonable on a night like this) and our food was hot, flavorful and timely. So many reasons our impromptu adventure out could’ve been a nightmare but was not. Our server was so friendly and while we did not sit until 8:40 pm she did not rush us nor neglect us at all. I apologize that I do not recall her name because she deserves recognition for her service skills. Coming from a fine dining background of over 10 years my expectations can be high… While this was not fine dining nor did I expect it to be we wanted to recognize the staff at the San Marcos Cocina Del Charro for being utter professionals this evening and making our experience an enjoyable one.

We ate here with family yesterday afternoon. The waiter checked on us often and was pleasant. I had the create your own combo with carne tacos, rolled tacos and beans. It was all delicious. The chips are not that great, but its such a small item its not worth removing a star. The place it very spacious inside, with plenty of seating, both booths and tables. The bar has Dos XX Lager on draft which is always a plus. The bathrooms are clean. Looking forward to our next visit.

Our family went here recently for my mother in law’s birthday. We made a reservation for 7 at 8pm and showed up a little bit early so we could get a few margaritas at the bar. My husband and I ordered the grande Cadillac and Los Cabos margartias and they were great. Really strong and sour tasting! We even had some chips and salsa while we waited for our table to be ready. The hostess found us at the bar around 745 and told us our table was ready. Our server was Isabel and she was quick to get our orders. She brought out 3 baskets of chips and lots of salsa to share among the 7 of us. All of our food came out shortly after steaming hot and fresh. I ordered the 3 item combo plate since I couldn’t decide what to order. The chicken enchilada was the best part of my dinner, mostly because of the enchilada sauce. The tamale was terrible. It was dry and I couldn’t even eat half of it. The beef taquitos were pretty standard. They were mostly shell and not a lot of meat and there was more lettuce than guacamole on top. Pretty disappointing. My husband got the diablo burrito with carnitas inside. His carnitas were delicious. I would definitely recommend getting the carnitas and chicken over the shredded beef. Both my mother in law and brother got fish tacos and they were okay. The rice and beans that came as sides were really good but I find it really had to mess up rice and beans. Since it was my mother in law’s birthday, they put a huge sombrero on her head and sang her happy birthday. She loved it. Her birthday treat was a piece of flan and the flan was very creamy and rich. Overall, Cocina del Charro is a pretty good family restaurant with great margaritas and okay food, depending on what you order!

–Service I called in to make a reservation and I must say Camila did a great job answering my questions, going over the specials and current wait time. She sounded very friendly. I’ve been here a few times and the servers are really helpful. They are always friendly and giving recommendations of their food. Not once did my water glass go empty. The bartender is very friendly and gives good recommendations. Their micheladas are awesome! –Food The food here is delicious I had a the Cajun Burrito which was awesome I love shrimp and this is on my top 5 burritos. Enchiladas Suizas are also really good very soft and tasty. Plates are over $ 14 but it’s worth it. I heard brunch was good still haven’t tried it but I’ll be back! –Catering They once catered to my job a group of 50 the food was delicious don’t remember much but I do remember the chimichangas that were great as well as the dessert Churros those were amazing. You know the food is good when there is nothing left of the trays! One small thing though the tortillas were a bit cold.. .

Sunday brunch buffet is awesome here. Plus bottomless mimosas are great. I have only been on Sundays. My wife recommended it after having dinner with a friend, so the normal meals should be great too.

Not sure what north county peeps see in this place. There were 3 of us that met for dinner and the only part of the meal that was tasty was the guacamole. It was fresh and tasty unlike the rest of the food. We all ordered combos and each of us had the same reaction. No Bueno! I had a chili relleno and it was soggy, and tasted like it was defrosted in a bowl of water and served swimming in red sauce. Worst I’ve ever had. My enchilada was pork and it was dry and tasteless. The other reason I’m giving a second star is that the service was attentive and friendly. I’m going to pass on coming back to this place.

The food was very tasteless, I ordered the«steak ranchero» it was hard to find a piece of meat, it was literally a pool of sauce with bell peppers. My husband ordered the«carne asada burrito» and again no meat, most of it was rice. We are not coming back. Even the water tasted bad, the only good thing was the waitress’ service.

Sunday Funday… BRUNCH time in San Marcos!~ I came by this past weekend and tried their Sunday Brunch which runs till 2 pm. It was neat to try for the buffet style food, however bummer they said they no longer«offered» mimosas when I came at noon which was a disappointment [they said they ran out?! o. O],. ohhh I was looking forward to spending a few extra bucks more on some bottomless bubbly. In redemption they offered some beer specials for $ 4. which I opted for Mother Earth. The food was delightful and filling! I LOVEEEE horchata which they had. I also filled up my plate and tried: adobada taco, carnitas taco, french toast, churros, bacon, spanish rice, beans, pork, short ribs, green bean casserole, paella, potatoes and corn mix. The service was pretty good from the server, to the people working the brunch area cooks & taco lady etc. I filled myself and missed out on dessert, until next time! Leave full and happy =]]

Good authentic Mexican food. The establishment is big enough to seat tons of people. Sometimes you can judge a Mexican restaurant by their chips and salsa… El Charro passes. My combo plate was good(beef taquitos and enchilada). The service was good as well(I think our waitress was actually the manager on duty that morning). This isn’t exactly a hole in a wall type of restaurant.
