I don’t know why the business info has not been updated yet, but yes, it IS closed and has been closed for a while now.

On a balmy June night we had some delicious pizza, homemade organic wide pasta with duck, sundried tomoatoes, porcini mushrooms, walnut salad, house chianti, all delicous. Be patient, listen to music, have a drink, enjoy. Actuallly, the pasta is as good as it gets, 5 starts.

After trying a few restaurants(all of which were very crowded) we decided to eat at an almost empty Rustico’s. This should have tipped us off. After waiting 15 minutes for a waiter to appear, we ordered a glass of merlot and two of the most expensive items on the menu. The waiter showed up with our wine and apologetically shrugged as he handed us a glass that was a half-pour. We asked that he please fill the glasses with more wine. The bartendar came to the table with a very small wine glass and filled it to the top. He slammed it on the table, almost wanting to pick a fight. At this point, we got up and left. We believe the bartendar is probably the owner, and have never been more insulted in a restaurant situation. Needless to say, we will never go there again — as the bartendar has emotional tourettes. In case he doesn’t get it – service is what the restaurant business is all about. With this kind of attitude, I give this place a few months.

CLOSED A FEWMONTHSAGO. My dinner here with colleagues was really pleasant. The salad was quite fresh with a lovely dressing. The veggie lasagna was very flavorful. The jazz band plinked away in the corner allowing thoughtful conversation to be heard. The service was a tad slow, but I commonly experience much slower service in the Financial District. Clearly his establishment is not intended for the hipster scene. Yes, the décor could use an update. The name is Rustico would imply a solid unpretentious neighborhood eatery which this is. It would be great for one’s parents, a date with a longtime friend, or a night when you are simply to darned tired to make dinner for yourself and you want a comfy place to shake off the day’s cares.

Eaten here just once. It’s really just a funky old, hole-in-the-wall storefront one block off Bridgeway. Bambie & I were crammed into a 2 top that would be too small to play cards or dominoes. T’was a Friday night and the 25 seats were packed, uncomfortably so. The pasta items we had were made in house. Everything was just good. Nothing spectacular. Run-of-the-mill family owned place that provides down home«atmosphere» along with the vittles. Live small jazz combo music on the weekends. Poor musicians are jammed into a tiny space, no stage area. Prices are too high for the quality of the food & the rickety old building. I guess even the old Sausalito fire-trap wooden buildings cost a fortune to lease.

Avoid this place unless you’re into: a) waiting for the only waiter in the restaurant to decide that he’s ready to serve you b) having food that you could easily make better at home w/o paying their rates(which aren’t bad if the food was better than average) c) waiting for the only waiter to decide he’ll bring you the check in the leather check holder from a credit card brand they no longer take d) being in a place where it seems lots of other folks know not to come because most tables are empty e) having the only waiter spending all his time chatting with the bus girls rather than waiting tables If you’re into any of these things, then Rustico is definitely the restaurant for you. If not, then it’s worth waiting to get a table at Café Divino next door.

This is THE place to take parents. It’s right in downtown Sausalito and filled with sophisticated affluent older locals. The scene is dark, multi-tiered, pretty art, and lovely. My incredibly talented friend Maryann was performing here tonight and I had the most lovely time. Live old-fashioned jazzy entertainment played in the background. Cozy, inventive, homemade pasta, delicious mussels, a well-balanced salad, delicious wild salmon — perfectly spiced to enhance the flavor of the high quality fish. The prices were high, but just right. Seriously, your parents will love it.
