The food got progressively worse every time I’ve went till I’ve eventually stopped going all together. It’s cheep food, but expect a very unpleasant trip to the bathroom in about 10 minutes. I don’t normally write reviews, but this place has earned the 5 min out of my day it took to post this.

Should I feel terrible that I love this place? Judging from the other reviews I’m lucky I don’t like sushi. I’ve only gotten chicken or beef dishes. Expect to see SCAD kids, especially this girl(me). Bourbon chicken, Sesame chicken: huge portions, tastes good. I love the Curry bowl. And that onion bread they give you, ah. Wonton soup is also pretty good. All in all, good cheap eats that are pretty quick and right on Broughton. PS. I’m pretty sure English isn’t our waitress’s first language but she was still one of the best ones in Savannah.

At one time this was the place to go. No longer. The sushi rolls are now half the size and so is the chicken. The quality is now very poor. Was just horrible. Yhey are trying to cut corners. Just rsise the price a dollar or 2 instead of cutting quality. I used to eat here all the time. Was away for work for a year. Now im back and i need to find a new sushi place.

Good. I’ve sort of grown to like their unusual take on fried rice.

It’s cheap college favorite so, you get what you paid for. Staff are friendly but don’t really give a shit about timely service and they mostly stay out of your way. Place is too dimly knit to make out if it’s actually clean or not but I am happy to report sitting on the upper platform, I encountered no wildlife. I give this place a extra star for honoring their lunch menu until 4:30 even though I came in at 4:27. I ended up getting a two roll combo for about $ 7, which is pretty cheap. Both of them were no frills, my salmon and crab stick roll had no additions. There was soy sauce on the table but the waiter did come by to ask if I wanted anything else with it and I ended up getting the spicy mayo and eel sauce — the first was a little off, but the eel sauce was pretty solid. It was underwhelming food in the grand context of foods, but for dive college sushi, not too bad.

I am visiting Savannah from Atlanta and stopped in to buy lunch to go. Shockingly, the hostess refused to serve me unless I provided my phone number. I asked why and she replied, «If you called ahead, it’s not required but since you didn’t, I need your phone number.». «Really», I asked. Unbelievably she replied she couldn’t take my order without my phone number. Absolutely ridiculous. I walked out, YOUSHOULDALLRUN! There’s something very odd that a restaurant refuses to serve you if you won’t provide your phone number.

It is a small inexpensive eatery. i am aware of all of the bad press this place has received. However it is not pretentious, it simply exists as a cheap eatery. I have never eaten anything other than the california roll and Teriyaki kip dishes so I am unaware of the quality of the other entrees. However I was alwas pleased with my order. Mind you that I have never eaten inside only take away so I am unaware of their interior issues when it comes to cleaning and so forth. From my perspective the space has always been fairly clean. I do believe that Sakura could hire better staff. Sometimes their appearance does not lend itself to ensure positive feelings in the customers. Though I do understand that finding good help can be difficult, especially in a city like Savannah where intolerance, arrogance and low culture are generally abound. I truly believe that Sakura is doing the best they can in that environment. The south end Savananh location is a bit better though the employees seemed often overly concerned with possible robbery. It is unfortunate that they have to deal with such fears so often. Sakura could be a bit more relaxed in my opinion.

Surprisingly good. The portions are HUGE. I had the spicy rice bowl which had perfectly cooked soft tofu. The fried rice plates are the size of your head. Same with the udon noodles. Service was fantastic and fast. The place doesn’t look like much, but it’s surprisingly better than it looked. Oh, I’m 100% Asian and quite picky so that should tell you something.

There are two reasons I come here: the vegetable tempura and the ginger salad. One doesnt go well without the otheet. Tempura is too heavy on its own, and usually it comes with a salad, which is the perfect, light accompaniment. Today they said they stopped serving salad at three. I wanted the salad! Whole reason I went. But no … it doesn’t say that on the menu. Why should I expect the inconsistency? Thats why I rate this 2 stars: inconsistency, and the smell of an untreated aquarium. Trust me, it’s not the sushi bar … At least I hope not!

While the food is not bad, the place is filthy. I came here right before closing time and ordered the Indonesian fried rice to go. While it was pretty good, had I noticed how dirty the place was before placing my order I would have made a 180 and walked out. Folks a dirty dining room does not inspire a whole lot of confidence as to the cleanliness of your kitchen.

Went to give this place a second chance after I had been kind of disappointed before. It was the worst choice I have ever made when it comes to second chances and food. The place was filthy, the tuna in my sushi did not taste right, and even worse was that a ROACHSCAMPEREDDOWNTHEWALLTOOURTABLE. Of course my SO went to kill it and missed so it went down and got under the table. I couldn’t even finish my not even subpar tofu bowl. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.

If I could go below one star I would. The sushi at one time was amazing now it is terrible. I will never recommend this place. The sushi seemed to be recently thawed out not fresh. When I bit into it the sushi was still slightly frozen. We asked for help for my pregnant wife in selecting sushi but no one could help so we stuck with cooked items. Restrooms are dirty. Closes early

The fish does not taste fresh. I have dined here only a few times but each time I am annoyed at myself for returning and not learning my lesson from previous visits. Sushi Zen and Wasabi’s are both much better quality.

Overall pretty bad. Veggies were far from fresh, pretty beat up to be sure. Tempura was just your standard American style batter. Fish didn’t taste or feel fresh at all, and the sushi rice was pretty state. Not as cheap as everyone made it out to be either. Wait staff was nice enough though. Would not recommend.

It’s with a heavy heart that I rate Sakura with one star. This was my favorite spot in college. Cheap sushi, great onion bread and fried tofu… but alas, things have changed! We stopped in here on our last visit to Savannah and the place was empty. We thought it may be due to how late it was. We proceeded with caution, but proceeded none the less. I ordered my old«usual», the grasshopper roll and avocado roll and my partner ordered her old«usual», a Nemo roll with no masago. The food was nothing close to how it used to be. First of all, her roll came out missing the crab sticks and avocado that have come with it for years and when she brought it to the attention of the server we listened to the owner argue with him about how the sushi was supposed to be prepared. We checked the menu, and sure enough the crab sticks and avocado are listed as ingredients in this roll. It seemed like they have just stopped caring about how the food is prepared. My roll came out looking normal enough, but the wasabi on the side was hard and brown. It looked like play-dough that had been sitting out and turned crunchy. No thanks! We explained to the owners that we just weren’t interested in eating our food after the ordeal and we referenced the nastiness of the wasabi. Instead of repairing the situation, the owner informed us that we need to pay for our complimentary, greasy onion bread because it is only complimentary if you purchase dinner. Wow! We paid the $ 3 and left, never to return. This place has gone straight down hill over the years. I will definitely relive my college days in other ways when I visit Savannah.

The place draws you in with it’s close-to-Japan style feel but tricks you because the waitstaff is composed of American hipsters and the owners are Korean. Oh well, lost another potentially authentic Japanese option. Well, it was a shot in the dark and I gotta the food was a bit more unique than the Asian food standard. Interesting yakisoba style«yaki-udon» on a plate with mixed veggies. Filling and tons of food for your money. It filled us up well so we could eat light later in the evening at the Olde Pink House to save the impact on our wallets.

ROACHCENTRAL!!! As much money as this restaurant generates, I’m pretty sure they can afford an exterminator. After my last review, I decided to put some space between Sakura and me. However, several of my friends and co-workers were still eating there, and assured me that the«bug problem» had died down. So, after several months away, I decided to give it a try, and it was fine. The staff is always pleasant and attentive, and the food is decent for the price. Where else on Broughton Street can you get a full meal(meat, vegetables, rice, and drink) with tip included for around $ 10??? You can barely get a sub sandwich meal for that. However, my last visit — not more than two weeks ago assured me that it’s time to buckle down and bring my own lunch. My companion and I shared a lunch entrée, and she requested an extra plate. The plate came with a dead roach on it. I kid you not. The wait person kindly removed it, and gave her another plate… from the same stack that the dead roach came from. That did it for me. The staff was kind and attentative as always — I really like the two guys there who’ve been serving for a while because they’re really nice. But someone(the Health Department, perhaps???) needs to bring this to the owners’ attention. I’m pretty sure that bugs aren’t the exclusive problem of Sakura’s. But I’ve never been to a restaurant where there were dead roaches on my tableware, or crawling up and down the wall jockeying for a place at the table with me. Sorry…but never again. Future brave diners, beware, and bring your own can of Raid just in case.

I can see Sakura as the ultimate in college dining. Cheap, close and good sized portions. The food was completely average though, which is probably not a problem if you are a SCAD person, but if you are a tourist looking for a nice dining choice, this isn’t it. The taste was bland and average, like a damp rag they were squeezing all the flavor out of slowly, and into as many dishes as possible. I cannot recommend Sakura on any grounds, except maybe Burial Grounds and then I CERTAINLY don’t recommend it.
