I stopped by Pizza by Pappas for a quick meal(takeout). They sell small personal size pizzas. Pizza by Peppas crust is crispy and holds everything together well. It’s my favorite part of their pizza. The sauce and cheese was good as well. Service was fast and polite during checkout. The restaurant was busy around prime lunch hours. Parking can be a hassle at times. Pizza by Pappas is a good choice for quick personal pizzas in Scranton.

Decent pizza, wings not terrible but not quite great on either.

Having grown up on this pizza, perhaps I’m a little biased. They do their own version of pizza(pan), ordered by the tray, not pie. Their grinders are not the usual local subs or hoagies. You cannot compare these to any other place around, so they are obviously the best at what they do. You’ll see on their menu that their food is cited as the best. I agree. Try it for yourself and you’ll see. Grab a tray, a grinder and maybe an appetizer(fries are really good) and enjoy a staple of downtown Scranton.

I don’t currently and never have understood the appeal of Pizza by Pappas.

The bread they use for the grinders is awful. It’s dry and stale every time. It has no chew or crust to it. Reminds of the bread you get at gas station in the cooler already made. Or regular white bread that wasn’t sliced yet. I give them 5 stars because they are not known for this item on the menu. I’m not sure who voted them Best Hoagies(Grinders)? They don’t tell you who voted, where they voted or when. Crap is king!

Old school pizza/hoagie joint near courthouse square. You order at counter at find a seat until they call your order. I can remember being a kid there waiting to hear our number and subsequently feast on peppers and onions Personal pan pizza served hot fresh and delicious and in styrophome trays with little plastic tables that severed well to chide old imagination. Perfectly Toasted subs aka Grinders easy meal for 2. Cheesesteaks served diced with works is just the right amount of greasy. Yes, the Tuna is also spectacular. Get both and split with a friend!

I think nostalgia is what keeps this place going. I’m a transplant here, so I don’t have any fond memories of the place. To be fair, the 3 times that I’ve been there, I’ve only had the pizza. So I cannot comment on the other food. The pizza is small, 10″ or 12″, not sure. It’s on the expensive side at $ 6.99 for such a small pie. I’m not sure if they consider it pan pizza or Sisilian, but their crust is greasy and always burnt, I’m guessing that is part of their«thing» though. The sauce is nothing to write home about, but it’s not terrible and the cheese is just your average pizza cheese. We have many, way better, pizza joints in the area.

Meatballs were undercooked but waffle fries were amazing. Food was really greasy and turned my stomach.

Great Pizza Being from New York I did not know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised with Scranton style pizza. Slightly thicker than New York style but not as thick as Chicago style. Loved everything about it, the cheese, the sauce and the crust where all delish!

Classic establishment. I love Pizza by Pappas. I have been coming here for years and fell in love with it since I first had it. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. On cold days, try the soup. It’s delicious. The regular tray(or extra cheese) is a must-have, and as far as grinders go, I have literally never had a tuna grinder taste the way it is made here. There is something about it that captures an essence which has become far too rare today. You will not be disappointed.

You definitely have to come here if you’re in downtown Scranton where most restaurants closed on Sunday. The décor at this place is still stuck in the last century with running model train above your head. We came here for Pepperoni Grinder which tasted amazing! Personal pie pizza wasn’t bad either, a bit greasy. I heard Tuna Grinder is great as well. I guess I need to stop by again when I’m in Scranton next time.

Second-best pizza in Scranton! They have been around since 1972, for good reason. Perfect size for one or to share between two. Good pricing. Quick and friendly service. Cool décor inside! A bit greasy, though. Get the napkins! They also have very good French fries.

I’ve never actually been here, but I have had their food a few times. My mom works by it and brought me home the pizza, it’s hit and miss at best. It’s a chewy crust with OK sauce and actually very good cheese. The subs are good I guess, but nothing to go into great detail about. The pizza is VERY greasy and you almost have to dab it off with a napkin to make it edible. Some decent cheap pizza though, certainly. Maybe I’m just spoiled growing up in by Sabitinis and Pizza Loven and everywhere in Old Forge, but al in all, it’s just OK.

Pizza is small, but delicious. if your near it i would recommend going too it. They have more than just pizza, they have subs, sandwiches, soup, and much more.

Cheese Steak was very good. Sandwich is big enough for two! Chicken Parmesan was fair. Again, grinders are big enough for two.

I go here for lunch often. The grinders are awesome(and huge, I always split one with a coworker). One of the most reasonably priced restaurants downtown. Seriously, try the chicken salad grinder. It has cranberries and pecans and it’s the most delicious with melted cheese when it’s fresh out of their awesome toaster oven. The tuna grinder is nothing to sneeze at either! If you are there early enough definitely get a cup of homemade soup, I’m in love with the Loaded Baked Potato but plenty of their soups are great, and most sell out quickly during the busy lunch hour. Lots of friends of mine crave this pizza. It’s pretty greasy(but that makes it more delicious, right?). Only one size, which is a little bigger than a personal. Definitely worth a taste if you aren’t in the mood for a grinder! No table service; you place your order at the counter and they give you a number that they call over a loudspeaker, so it’s not the most intimate dining experience I’ve ever had. But… There’s a cool train that runs on a track along the ceiling. All the kids seem to really love it.

Had the Pappas Special with a side of waffle fries. Fries weren’t very crisp and the pizza was pretty average.

I’ve only had their pizza over the years. I liked it when we were kids and hadn’t yet explored much options of what pizza was really about. Now, I feel its highly over rated for its price/taste. Someone would have to really twist my arm to get pizza from here again.
