Visiting San Antonio and my uncle recommended this restaurant and I was pleased. 3 ½ stars. Very interesting type of restaurant. When we pulled up I was skeptical because of the gas station and store type setup. Reminds me of being back in school and having lunch in the cafeteria. They put all of your food in a tray and you get your tray of food and head to find a table inside the store or outside at one of the picnic tables. My food highlights were the creamed corn, the turkey, and peach cobbler. The corn is so creamy and delicious! I really could have ate it all day long! The turkey was so moist which was surprising. I really wanted to buy a pound of it and take it back to Georgia to make sandwiches lol. Also I’m not a peach cobbler fan at all but theirs was really good! The chicken and brisket were pretty good as well. The barbecue sauce wasn’t anything special but it got the job done. I don’t eat pork so I can’t speak on the ribs but my family said they weren’t the best, just ok. I wish they had a wider variety of meats and sides. I really wanted beef ribs so I was disappointed. Customer service was good as well! The cashiers and cooks were very entertaining. They also give you samples of anything you request which is great!

BBQ to me is American food. When people talk about American food, BBQ has to be at the top of the list. I was visiting Texas and looked forward to TXBBQ. I was in New Braunfels and came across what the locals said was really the ONLYBBQ place in the vicinity, Rudy’s. So I was off– Upon first look I thought it was awesome, bog outdoor seating area and a covered porch. I get in line and to the left are big tubs of beers and sodas. I grab a shiner bock because beer and BBQ are essential to each other. Get up to the counter and they’re handing out samples of the creamed corn. Woo, man oh man do I like that. But, I decide to go with the potato salad, peach cobbler, and a couple pickled jalapeños for sides. I order the brisket because I can see them cutting it and smoke rings look deep and the bark looks amazing. My date orders chicken and it looks great as well. I went with some friend who all got ribs… So, they pile on classic white bread at check out and I get a side of complimentary onions and pickles(Gotta make a sandwich!!) The brisket is great, as I suspected. Great smokey flavor and the bark has a nice texture to it while the meat falls apart. I was more than happy! Now, here’s where it got me a little down– The potato salad wasn’t anything special. A standard mustard potato salad, while good, very under-seasoned. The jalapeños were good, but had been pickled for so long there was zero heat. I could have eaten a hundred of them. The cobbler is served cold, not used to that, but the taste was good. I could have done without it. The chicken, which I ate plenty of was a bit underwhelming. Not as smokey as I would have guessed and they left the skin on which wasn’t too appetizing for me, a bit rubbery. The chicken wasn’t dry but it wasn’t moist. Wouldn’t go back for the chicken and I love BBQ chicken. So, all in all I was very underwhelmed after having plenty of great BBQ in my life. In a pinch Rudy’s would do, but if you have the time(which I didn’t) make sure to head more towards San Antonio or Austin for some great eats. Cheers

That’s a different place if you are not from San Antonio . Common tables order like a fast food or sandwich shop. Great flavors their meat doesn’t need bbq is just very good as it is just well seasoned and preserves the meat flavor. Creamy corn is awesome, need to try that if you havent. Sausage is also very good. Plates are just to be discarted and platic forks. Is a different experience from a full service restaurante. But the product is worth the visit. Why just 3 stars. Well is not as clean as normal restaurante. Silverware and plays could still be better.

I initially left a somewhat critical review but I’d like to amend it. I returned for the baby backs that I couldn’t get the first time. They were great. The third time the pit master recommended the sausage to go with my brisket. Brisket was good but sausage was very fine. Well seasoned and explosively juicy. On my final night in town the pit master recommended the brisket. I ordered off the fatty side. Best decision yet. Got some of the finest brisket I’ve had. If you’re hankering for a specific cut then by all means order it. However, if you’re up for the finest then take the recommendations. They know best. I would give Rudy’s five stars but I need a broader sample to make such a claim. I mean this IS a barbecue state and I haven’t tasted it all.

Granted, Rudy’s may be a chain and may not be the BBQ for the BBQ purist, but I enjoy it quite a bit. I was in town for an interview over a year ago when I first experience Rudy’s, and I was tickled from the start. A combo gas station, convenience store and BBQ joint? This sounds like my kind of place! And as it turns out, it is my kind of place. I’m a big fan of their smoked turkey. It’s peppery, tender and for a guy who generally doesn’t like turkey very much, it’s something I’d eat over and over. Also, their creamed corn is one of their go-to dishes for a very good reason: it’s delicious. My only complaint about this particular branch is that they don’t seem to have spicy sausage, nor do they have banana pudding. Add those in, and you’d really have something, but it’s still worth a visit regardless.

Lunch Nov 16 Yes, this is adjoining a gas station. But don’t be afraid, its a legit restaurant. Sides: Cole Slaw was good, Cream Corn was great. Meats: Sausage was really good, Moist Brisket was really good, Turkey was good, the mixed chopped meat was good(but i thought the sausage in it kinda disrupted the texture a bit) and the Pork Ribs were sub par(moist, but no flavor other than the rub that seasoned all the meat). And to my taste that what I didn’t care for, the seasoning on the meat. I like to taste that smokey, cooked flavor of the meat(which the moist brisket seemed to have). I really liked the BBQ sauce though and it certainly enhanced the turkey and pork ribs. The cost was half of what I paid at a «famous» BBQ place the other day — so I cant complain as the cost for quality and taste was very fair! Would like to give this a 3.5 star rating if I could.

I really didn’t have a good experience here. I enjoy Rudy’s in general, but I felt like the food and service here was subpar. I came with with a Book of Free coupon. The gentleman who took my order didn’t mention the coupon was only good for lean brisket. Which I guess is fine, except when I received it the quality was terrible. It was dried and brown. The moist I asked for(it was extra), tasted pretty good. You can look in the pictures and judge for yourself. However, the cashier didn’t acknowledge my extra order or seem like he really wanted to be there. I had to ask for bread because he didn’t offer it. Well, I suppose it’s possible he was having an off day or unhappy for some reason. Which, I totally can understand and feel bad for, if it didn’t involve creating a bad customer service experience.

My sister, her husband and I saw Rudy’s BBQ on our way to Austin from San Antonio and had an instant craving for GOODBBQ. The place has a country vibe that is welcoming and smelled SO amazing. I don’t know what this man’s name was, but he was incredibly friendly and made us try the creamed corn — holy moly AH-MAZING. So of course, we got the creamed corn and a small portion of EVERYTHING. HA. No regrets. The staff are wonderful, you can eat outside and have as much BBQ«sause» as you want. The BBQ sauce is very good but a little too peppery for me. My favorite were the ribs, absolutely fall off the bone delicious. As a small note, they have military discounts — you guys rock! I will be back again to take my carnivorous husband!

Don’t make the mistake of going to Franklin BBQ on Sunday & then agree to meet up with a friend at Rudy’s for lunch on Thurs. The disappointment level will be exponential :/ I ordered brisket & baby baby ribs and had some turkey & sausage from my friend’s plate. The meats failed to impress. None of it had that extra smokiness that I’ve come to love about Texas bbq. Plus, everything was on the dry side. I usually don’t like to add bbq sauce. But in this case, I had to in order to give the meats some flavor. Even the famous creamed corn was just ok. Nothing special. I brought leftovers to my husband to try. But he passed when he saw how bone dry the brisket was. Staff members are very friendly & helpful. Rudy’s give 10% off to military & dependents. But even these two pluses won’t be brining me back in here any time soon.
