The best seafood for over 40 years. The menu may not change but neither does the quality.

Seriously — what a breath of fresh air. Such a great experience at this place. Come here for no mess, no fuss, great seafood. I ordered the king crab legs dinner with a baked potato and coleslaw. Great food and great price. Totally family owned — they even put a bib on me! This will be a staple dinner stop anytime I visit Shelter Island.

This restaurant is all over the place. The seafood is fresh, you can’t deny that. The preparation is hit or miss — some things are very good, some things are bad. Chowder? Save yourself the trouble and mix some flour and butter, pour in a little bouillon and call it a day. The worst part was the service. Friendly at first, GTFO five minutes later. Here’s a hint — if you want to close up at 8, and expect to turn off the lights at 8, don’t seat people for dinner when they turn up at 7:30. I generally don’t mind, but when I’m dining with kids who aren’t exactly the fastest eaters, I don’t appreciate someone turning off the lights on me exactly 5 minutes after your ‘closed’ time. ‘Unpretentious’ — it’s a shack with crummy service, I don’t think calling it ‘unpretentious’ is on the mark. Rude is what I’d call that treatment. If you must go — order food that has to be minimally prepared(raw, steamed, maybe seared) and take it to go. Finally — note that tips are left in cash, there’s no option to tip on the check when using a credit card. Pretty sure it was noted in the menu somewhere, but it bears mentioning in case you’re short on cash. I tipped these people too well for the service I received, because I wasn’t sure whether the shenanigans were coming from the waitress or the management, and didn’t want to punish my server for something out of her control.

Been going to Bob’s since I was a little girl(over 5 decades). Fabulous lobster bisque, mussels, steamers… get what is fresh from the sea! Personally, I love the«peel your own shrimp.» Good old fashioned lobsters, unpretentious… and family run. And I love the mint chocolates they hand out as a treat!

After owning a restaurant I will try to be polite as possible with my review. My wife started with chowder and at best it had no flavor and basically tasted like warm milk. I had the crab balls, edible but larger would have been a little better presentation instead of what looked like a bunch of brown marble size balls on a plate. We both had king crab legs not much to get wrong steaming them up. The baked potato was nuked REALLY ! No Really. We each got one tiny piece of bread and it was accompanied by stale crackers. How the got stale in plastic sealed wrappers even I don’t get. It was Tuesday night the restaurant half full and I’m just glad I didn’t go on a weekend night to wait longer or I would have been not as nice with this review.

Wonderful unpretentious seafood spot. I ordered the broiled scallops and my boyfriend had the captain’s special(fried fish, shrimp and scallops). Both meals came with a potato side(French fries, sweet potatoes, or baked potato). We were extremely impressed with the portion size and the quality of food. My $ 20 scallops dish included 9 huuuge succulent scallops. The scallops were sprinkled with paprika, and were possibly the best I’ve ever had. Very smooth and sweet. My boyfriend was also very happy with his meal, although I caught him glancing jealously at my scallops(luckily the portions are big enough so I felt more than willing to share). The service is friendly and warm. Bob’s has the feel of a family-owned restaurant. We really enjoyed the nice atmosphere created by the staff. The décor is kitschy at best. Lots of nautical decorations hanging from the ceiling, and rather dated tables and chairs. Without the nautical theme, the dining room would resemble a church hall. But you’re not here for the décor, you’re here for the seafood. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a laid back meal, and a delicious seafood dinner. It is a gem!

Gritty muscles. Mediocre fish. Haphazard service. A wasted opportunity. Went to Tuck Shop after to repair the evening. Their ice cream was better than anything we ate at Bob’s.

Make no mistake, this place is all about the seafood! The bread served with my dinner, straight from the bag. The baked potato, nicely cooked but served with only butter and sour cream. But the seafood was out of this world! They only have two soups, Manhattan clam chowder & crab bisque. Since I can’t stand red chowder I ordered the bisque. Truth be told, it could have used a little more salt. But that’s easily fixed at the table. What made this a great dish was the incredible amount of crab that they actually put in the soup. There wasn’t a spoonful that I didn’t get a nice chunk of crab. For my entrée I was torn between the scallops, one of my favorite dishes, or the special of the house, the bluefish. After talking to the very friendly and personable waitress, I chose the scallops. She said the bluefish is considered a local delicacy, but it’s an acquired taste. She very sweetly had the chef prepare a two bite size portion of the fish for me to try. I liked it fine but would never choose it over scallops. The prices, let’s just say I couldn’t have bought the dozen large scallops at the market anywhere near as inexpensively as I got them here. Pretty amazing. A minor point. Despite the notice on the menu the restaurant will take Visa and M/C. But they have to run it through the fish shop so you cannot add a charge tip. Bring cash for the tip, I guarantee you’ll want to leave a generous one. Would I recommend Bob’s? Most definitely, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.

This place is great for exactly what it is. Very friendly waitress, and my husband’s clam chowder and king crab legs, as well as my lobster, exactly what we had in mind. And at lower cost than a plate of pasta at Vine Street Café. As for dessert: it’s all about frozen dairy, from tartufo(!) to… Dixie Cups! They take credit cards now except for the tip, and they do have a limited wine and beer selection.

Best lobster in shelter island. No liquor licesen so bring you own wine. Great seafood. Unpretentious settings. The staff is friendly the steak at under 20 bucks was good and a bargain large dinning room full of sun. We did not try the fish but the next table did and it look great
