My friends and I have a running joke that a phở restaurant without a number in its name is not authentic. However, Phở Viet Star is surprisingly authentic and yummy. Their Vietnamese Iced Coffee is delicious! It tastes just like my mom used to make it. It’s the perfect mix of bitter and sweet. Their Phở Dac Biet(Combination Phở Noodle) is so incredibly flavorful and savory. The portions and huge and the prices are fantastic. Plus, the bean sprouts, chili peppers, lime and Vietnamese basil are so fresh and plentiful. All in all, Phở Viet Star is a solid Vietnamese restaurant with a great selection of authentic dishes at a great price.

Upon entering and not finding a public bathroom to use, i was a bit disappointed for the inconvenience. The setting was alright with common Vietnamese songs playing to bring nostalgia. The staff were wonderful. Quite friendly and always there to help if needed. One member, possibly the chef, even went around to make sure things were alright at every table. The food came out pretty swiftly. I ordered the specialty all star vermicelli(bun dac biet) and my friend ordered a specific phở with two meat products… though I can’t remember which ones. He said the meat was generous and the broth was better than he had expected. As for my meal, I would definitely say the meat was generous and quite delicious. The fish sauce(nuoc mam) wasn’t too salty, so I personally ordered extra according to my taste preference. We ordered two smoothies as well. One mango with rainbow jelly and the other passion fruit with tapioca balls. The taste was good enough, worth getting again. The pricing seemed a bit expensive for the size of the main dishes. Overall, I’ll give a 4⁄5 considering service, taste, pricing, and setting.

This was my second time trying out Phở Viet Star. It is a neighborhood phở spot located in a shopping center near my old apartment. The phở was just OK. The broth was very good however. I also ordered the egg rolls which were also just OK. I wouldn’t make this place a destination, but if you want an OK vietnamese meal to satisfy the hunger pangs it does the job.

I’ve returned one time since my last review, again because of convenience and location. This time around I ordered phở for dine in, and then an entrée to go for dinner at my next job. I ordered the veggie phở in veggie broth again. The broth wasn’t as good as the last time, I’m thinking the last time they didn’t actually give me the veggie broth, probably the regular broth. This time around the veggies weren’t as generous and the noodles were way overcooked and mushy. I didn’t touch them. I just ate the veggies and some of the soup. I also ordered the veggie spring rolls — just okay. Wouldn’t order them again. And the tofu and vegetable curry to go. This wasn’t good. The vegetables weren’t fresh and way overcooked. The tofu was good. The sauce was bland and super heavy. Rice was overcooked and too mushy. I also tried to order the pink jello with coconut milk. And it was unavailable. After this experience, I won’t be coming back. I think I just got them on a good day last time, and really — for the price they charge, the food isn’t worth it. Service is still good. But not worth the visit!

I just go here and eat because is close to my place but the price that they charge for their meal is ridiculous… is not fully authentic viet okay not the best nor good. many times I come and keep telling myself not to come back but still do but this time will not any more! They charge more when for the meals that being carry out but not only they also have a separate charge for a carryout omg everything at there restaurant charge double the price than other phở restaurant. please check your bill at the end they charge for every little hidden things. i don’t mind paying alot but the foods is the not best, pretty stuffy and stinky coming in to this restaurant. The can of drink i order have dusts around the ring i finally done I’m not coming bk

Only place that would allow me to buy the broth alone as I was on a clear liquid diet. Very family oriented setting and staff was very nice. Will be stopping by again!

If you’re looking for a very refreshing and enjoyable Vietnamese meal look no further! The tastes of Phở Viet Star are wonderfully pleasing. The men and women who work there are some of the kindest I have met! Whether you are dining in or carrying-out, Phở Viet Star will not disappoint. My suggestions are any of the vermicelli dishes, the ginger chicken, the spring and summer rolls, and the marinated pork. Enjoy.

I was surprised how tasty this place was. I visited based on Unilocal reviews and was not disappointed. It was pretty empty inside but the food tasted fresh.

Tried house special phở, it’s just OK, even didn’t give us the basil but parsley instead, won’t go again.

The staff is very friendly and happy to be a service to anyone. Along with a very nice sound system and sizeable TV, entertainment is something that the restaurant is never short on. With a very large menu and bar the restaurant is a place that can offer good food, service, and entertainment for just about everyone.

The lemongrass chicken and grilled pork were really good. The phở hit the spot on a cold day. I would return again.

I got vegetable phở with the vegetable broth there last night after my yoga class and I’m telling you it is the best tasting veggie broth I’ve ever had. Being vegan I’ve had lots of veggie broth. This one was so flavorful that it was totally optional to add the hot and plum sauce. Amazing stuff.

I felt so welcome here! The entire staff was so nice and the waiter kept telling me it would be fresh and delicious, well let me tell you he didn’t have to sell me on anything! Once I picked up my Phở I couldn’t put it down! So yummy and the Rolls were so good but all I could do was eat one I wanted to save room for the phở Im still full and ready to nap happily I recommend 100% this place is delicious and I would definitely go back and highly recommend this yumminess

The scallion pancakes I ordered were… not. A single, greasy omelette-like sheet completely lacking in scallions draped over a few rubbery shrimp and way too many bean sprouts. I don’t know what it was supposed to be, but it was really sloppy and I left hungrier than I arrived.

The most authentic Vietnamese restaurant in the DMV! His Bun Bo Hue is hands down the best I have ever had! The owner is also the head chef! You can taste the love in his food! A must try!

The bubble tea aka boba tea was delicious! We got taro as well as avocado! It had the perfect amount of sweetness to it & you could actually taste the avocado, whereas other places that I had tried you can barely taste the avocado. We also got the chicken breast phở since my sister does not eat beef, which was good but nothing extraordinary. The service was really good, they brought our waters right away and they kept asking if we needed anything. They should fix their menu there are several typos, which is unprofessional. For example, chicken break instead of chicken breast. Other than that it is a good place to eat when you are in the area.

The staff was very courteous and there is a bar for drinks as a local spot to come to with your friends. Their sound system and karaōke options are a great option for entertainment as well. On to the food though… Aka the best part. Sizzling mixed seafood and meat dish was off the chain good. My friend had lemongrass chicken which was top notch. The second friend had phở and they definitely did the phở right. Zero things wrong here. Great job for a local joint in silver spring. Hidden gem in a plaza.

One of the better Vietnamese places in the Silver Spring area. Very hospitable staff, decent portions, and great prices! We had the fresh summer roll, fried spring roll, caramelized fish, and dinner special with beef stew, grilled beef, and sunny side up egg. The caramelized fish is not the same as we’ve had at other places… I believe it had turmeric in it, which is odd because I’ve never seen it used in that dish before, but it didn’t take away from the dish itself. I will say that I am not a fan of tilapia, and the caramelized fish came with tilapia rather than the normal catfish. All the other dishes were satisfying. It’s worth coming back to again to try the bun no hue.

The first few months they open I come there to eat very often, the soup broths taste is very important with our Vietnamese tongues. I don’t mind the price is too pricey for many noodles soups they have because it’s next to our home and I come home late for work all the time. This couple of months later the beef phở soups taste very disappointed and not worth the price. I would rather drice abit far to get the better Phở. Therefore, smoothie and bubbles are my favorite but it’s bad to pay for a powdered made handcrafted drinks which isn’t cheap. I wouldn’t recommend this place since then. I hope that they take the discrimination to improve their quality of the broths and real fruits smoothie and drinks in future.

Such disappointing experience despite all the great reviews! I would like to give 2.5 stars, but when in doubt always go up. So, the service kind of lacked a lot. we waited for 15 minutes to get our check. And then it took them 10 more minutes to come get it. Food: broth was delicious. Good balance of ingredients vs broth. So we loved that. We asked the waitress to order bubble smoothie. She said we can mix any of the flavors. So we decided while we were eating and decided to call the waitress to order. So we wanted avocado and mango. She tells us that we cannot mix those 2 because one of them is powder and the other one is syrup. So we said how about passion fruits and honey dew. She says the same thing and became frustrated. In the menu, it does not say anything about syrup vs powder at all. But they advertise on the door that«real fruit smoothies». So we went with avocado and honey dew & mango and strawberry bubble tea. But it tasted like honey dew and mango. I did not taste the other flavor at all. The bubble is not those tradition black bubble, it was these frozen white ice tasting bubble. It would get stuck in the straw and I had difficulty trying to drink my bubble smoothie. Few sips in, I gave up and trashed it. Would I simply go back? No I wouldn’t. Such horrific experience I just don’t see myself dealing with such poor business ever again. I’ll take my money to where I’m comfortable and get what I paid for!!!

The food was very good :) very authentic Vietnamese meals that were truly flavorful. We had the pleasure to meet the owner/chef and he was such a successful and pleasant gentleman to speak with. He takes lots of pride in his restaurant, his food, service, and customers. There are many options to choose here not just phở, but rice dishes, noodle dishes etc. We will definitely be coming again. We love the fact that he advertises pictures of his meals on the window that really helps us determine what we’d like to eat or if we need help figuring out with number C3 looks like on the menu :) I hope people start posting pics of the amazing meals here :) that’s what always pulls me in to restaurants!

New management? New review! Phở, of course. Aroma — check. Broth — full bodied, a little sweeter than I like. Noodles — good texture, tended to to clump together. Meat — nice and tender. Price — good value. Service — cordial. Not as generous with the beef and noodles as Phở 88, broth not quite as complex. 4 ****, solid choice for phở-natics when in the area. I see that the pick 3 lunch special is still on the menu, I’ll try that when mood or weather does not call for hot soup.
