Always good, very friendly staff. Homemade pasta to die for and fabulous desserts. I hope Mildred’s has the soft shell crabs tempura this year, had them 2 years ago and the BEST I’ve ever had. We eat out 5⁄7 nights a week and also reside in a large foodie city, and Mildred’s continues to be a favorite. Veal saltimbuca is a favorites, along with stuffed shrimp, crab, and prime rib. Always enjoy the salad. The vegetable sides could be better. Service is excellent.

Every summer I take my family to Mildred’s and have always found the service excellent. The food is fresh and delicious and a decent value for the money. It has an extensive menu and the surroundings are pleasant. we will be going again this June and expect another excellent meal.

Good dining can be had at the shore without patronizing a shore outpost of a Philly restaurant. Mildred’s is Jersey Shore homegrown. We love the fact that the original trailer Mildred hauled around was incorporated into the current building. The building has a series of dining rooms, reflecting Mildred’s expansions over the decades. As you walk through the restaurant, you are walking through history. Although there was a little slippage in our dining time – we were seated 15 minutes after our reservation – we did not mind. Our party congregated outside in the comfy rattan chairs provided by Mildred’s and enjoyed great company and the sea air. Before we ordered, our server brought delicious crusty bread and grilled red long hot peppers. Despite their heat, the long hots were inhaled by the menfolk. Mr. M ordered the broiled seafood platter, which was both artfully presented and tasty. Not a hint of fishiness and everything was obviously very fresh. Meanwhile, my flounder was perfectly prepared and seemingly caught immediately before service. Our only quibble with Mildred’s is that the preparations tend to be «old school.» I prefer menus that have a few more offerings that include kale, quinoa and brussels sprouts. Nonetheless, we will keep Mildred’s on our«to do» list when we are in the mood for well-executed old school fish and seafood.

This restuarant was very nice on the inside and had a great romantic atmosphere. The food is good but not the best I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t say the food is worth the price. This is what we order: –caprese salad(three sliced tomatoes, three slices of mozzarella, balsamic glaze, NO basil) = $ 9.25 very disappointed. –chicken parm –filet mignon –two Pepsis Total Bill= $ 70 without tip. Ridiculously overpriced. If you want a nice dinner but do not want to spend a crazy amount of money. avoid this restuarant.

The restaurant critic of the Philadelphia Inquirer has recently called Mildred’s Restaurant in Strathmere a Jersey shore classic that’s one of the last of its kind still standing and operating. I don’t always agree with this critic but he’s 100% correct in this observation. And Mildred’s seems to be more than just surviving … it seems to be thriving as it usually is very crowded. Why is this so in this day and age? Because good food never goes out of fashion, a distinctive ambience is always popular, it’s located in charming Strathmere which everyone loves, and they have a service staff that has many faces that have been around for several years despite this being a seasonal restaurant. After a recent day of beaching it and surfing in Strathmere, Mildred’s was the perfect spot to take a large appetite. From the complimentary spicy long hots to the fresh bread to a house salad that is totally delicious with a light Caesar dressing and blue cheese crumbles, Mildred’s does the little things right. My main course of the classic Philly combo — Fried Oysters and Chicken Salad — was spot on. A baked potato and pickled beets provided tasty support. The waitress and busboy were not only attentive and efficient, they were super pleasant as well. Looking around in the many dining rooms, I could see they were all filled with people totally enjoying the Mildred’s experience. As long as there is a Strathmere on a tip of an island in the Atlantic Ocean, I hope there is a Mildred’s Restaurant as well!

Reasonable food high prices and waitress(Jenn) dropped everything including pasta on me. There is a much better Italian place down the road in Strathmere. Mildred’s seems to be resting on its reputation

Standard fare. Plenty of fish, seafood, chicken and pasta. Served with a pre-made salad and standard veggies. The seafood Entrees we had were good but the veal tasted no different than chicken. Filet mignon tasted off like it was starting to go bad. Probably will not go back

The food is bland, most seafood dishes are broiled, the vegetable side dishes are made out of canned and frozen vegetables, the interior is completely outdated. Overpriced.

Mildred’s never disappoints year after year we come to ring in and out summer seasons with great seafood and service. You might wait a bit to be seated but worth the wait. Great pasta dishes and the famed manicotti. Overall a great place offering consistency, hot food and value for a good dinner. Remember BYOB.

A nice variety of options and perfect for a special dinner at the beach. Seafood was fresh and tasty. They had a nice selection of(overpriced) NJ wines for a BYOB. The atmosphere was tasteful although the in wall waterfalls were a little much. Here’s a tip — make a reservation and bring your own wine — if you do those two things you’ll have a good time at Mildred’s When it comes to the food… it was well worth it. Make a reservation.

The service was very good at this establishment throughout the duration of our time there. We ordered calamari, onion rings, artichoke francaise and the fresh mozzarella with tomato as appetizers. The calamari wasn’t hot. and it didn’t taste good either, was extremely chewy. The onion rings weren’t hot either but they tasted fine. The artichoke dish was so strange tasting, no one enjoyed that, the flavors were just not complementary of one another. The tomato with mozzarella was delicious. The wine we ordered was the Pinot Grigio, it was fair… not worth $ 30 but it was doable. Glad they at least offered it. For dinner I had the broiled stuffed shrimp and my husband ordered the broiled seafood plate. I thought my dish was pretty good, again not hot, and there were three separate times I had to pull shells out of my mouth from the crab stuffing but it tasted good. The homemade pasta was good although I asked for light oil and it came out drowning in it. My husband started his plate by eating the clams which he said were disgusting, he only ate one and it turned him off for the rest of the meal. I took his scallops because he didn’t want them and they were so over cooked, they were like chicken. When the server asked us how everything was and we told him these things, he didn’t do anything about it. When we got our check we were still charged for every single thing, even the artichoke appetizer of which only 2 were eaten because of how bad they were. Im sorry but it’s a little ridiculous that you are charging us $ 32.95 for a meal and sending it out with gross clams and chicken scallops and not offering ANYTHING in exchange. It was my dads birthday and when it came time to order dessert we just wanted to get out of there. on our way out I noticed some others with the broiled seafood combo plate and how their scallops were so much larger looking simply because they weren’t overcooked… it’s too bad. It’s fine if Mildred’s wants to be a nicer place with higher priced entrees but I’ll be damned if they’re gonna get an excellent review based on our paying over $ 200 for a half assed meal and fully charged check. No thanks.

The service was friendly and reasonably attentive. There was a pretty good range of different types of Italian and seafood. The portions of food were large and easily allowed me to bring home a spare meal. The homemade pasta was a little underwhelming. Dessert was tasty but not extraordinary. Would go back in the future if in the area.

So this is our first time here. The place was busy which is a good sign and the wait staff is very friendly. We were seated in a quiet corner. The place is very cute. On the table is bread and olive oil with a very hot pepper, they should probably warn people; it was so hot it was choking me. We both ordered the clam chowder, it was very much similar to Campbell’s New England in taste, minus the chunky veggies and a bit of sand in the clams. They did not skimp on the clams thought! Next was our salads, they offer Newman’s Caesar(with pine nuts in it) topped with blue cheese. I’m allergic to the nuts so I popped without the dressing and was given Olive oil and vinegar. The salad was spring mix, not the best for the type of dressings offered and no famous jersey tomatoes! That was disappointing. I had the broiled plate. It was very plain. No seasoning or garlic, just broiled/boiled sea food. My date had fried something. The sides were instant potatoes, no spice turnips and canned stewed tomatoes and zucchini. We are trying the deserts, tiramisu. «Eh». Not the best but not the worst. Flavor isn’t bad, but it’s not right either. Over way to pricey for the food quality. So our dessert was free, after speaking about the shrimp not being devain properly and the lack of season. The wait staff is very accommodating.

Pleasantly surprised. I had the stuffed cherry peppers and homemade manicotti with meat balls, it was quite good. My Mom and Dad came here often and my only regret was that I hadn’t dined there sooner. They actually loved the place and I can see why. When you are done eating you can take a short walk and you are on the beach. Strathmere does not have beach tags so it is a bonus all around. My daughter had the She-Crab soup and the Chicken Parm she too was impressed and she is a picky eater. So for Italian food they have my endorsement and my daughter is looking forward to our next visit for the She-Crab soup. 4 stars on my first visit.

I am going to be completely fair and point out the good and bad. Our family had last been here maybe 10 years ago and decided to come back on our vacation this time around. The night started off well. Everyone was wnjoying their appetizers though the calamari could have been a full meal itself. I got the fried mozzerela, it was decent, not spectacular, not bad though. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, mine was excellent though I had never had this particular dish anywhere bwfore so it was hard to compare to anything. Our server was also decent until… Our family had multiple people present who were chefs or involved in the restaurant business in some form. One of our party simply made a complaint that the«veal» he received was not quality. He does not complain ever and this is the first time in 20 years I have seen him make a complaint. The server was very empathetic and apologized. Which was great and where it would have ended for an establishment that actually understands customer service… if youve ever seen those restaurant saviour shows where the chef/owner refuses to change or acknowledge a complaint… that is what happened next. I do not blame the server for this but it was very insulting that the chef sent out a plate with two pieces of raw veal to basically say«this is what you ate. you. the customer are wrong» which many of us noted the veal they brought out was off color and not too fresh looking. Even when the customer is wrong… you dont not get in a prove-you-wrong fight. All in all, most of the food was tasty and good. Service was not bad either. I think our bad experience stems dowm from chef/ownership. You do not need to learn to cook… but watching a few episodes of Bar Rescue or Restaurant impossible could serve you some good in the way of customer relations. Would have been a 4 or 5 otherwise…

Went here for a reception dinner. We had lots of different appetizers, entrees, and dessert. I remember the mozzarella sticks and zucchini fries being delicious. I ordered the deviled crab and it was very good. We got berry cheesecake for dessert and it was also good. It was definitely overpriced, but hey, I wasn’t paying! I heard one of the factors of them choosing this place was because it was less expensive than other places nearby. So, if that’s true, this is a solid choice for seafood! Oh, and the service was very good and prompt. We had a large group and the place was pretty packed, and I didn’t feel like I waited long for anything.

There is a reason this restaurant is still going strong since 1952! I have been coming down the shore to Strathmere, NJ for years and there is nothing more solid, consistent and ultimately delicious than Mildred’s. I love the homey feeling, the always smiling owner, Sally, and the families and familiar faces you see each time you are there. The food is what you would expect for being by the ocean– made to order and always to perfection. The portions are large(read: yummy leftovers) and who does not love the BYO policy. Walk in with your party of 8 and 8 bottles of wine(no one judges) and make a night of it. Bonus is the proximity to the ocean for a post meal stroll. Reservations are definitely a must with this VERY popular spot.
