DON’T WASTEYOURMONEYON A PITCHEROFMARGARITAS! Something is definitely wrong when two people drink a pitcher of margaritas with a meal and neither of us had so much as a buzz! The manager said that there was tequila in it, but I couldn’t taste any and usually my limit is 2 – 3 drinks. He wasn’t very helpful or concerned and did absolutely nothing. Café Adobe has become pretty pricey over the years, but the food and margaritas have always been consistently excellent. In fact, it has been my daughter’s favorite restaurant since our first visit to the original one on Westheimer in the early 1980’s. We have always loved the margaritas, chips, salsa, fajitas, enchiladas and anything else on the menu, but I’m sorry to say that today was my last visit after 30+ years. The quality seems to be declining and there are too many other great Mexican restaurants with great food and margaritas.

Horrible food. I had not been at this location since 2 years ago! The food tastes and looks like cheap tex-mex food. Like the fajitas you buy at fiesta super market and just microwave. Horrible! Will never come back. This is not adobe café anymore only the name is left!

I come here for lunch with my coworker and we always order either the lunch special burrito or chimichanga. Our food comes out so fast every time and we are out of there in time to go back to work. We always have the same server, so very friendly and chatty. Have to mention — the chips on my last two visits have been warmed up stale chips. The last visit we made the server aware of it and we got it replaced with warmer stale chips. Lol so this visit, we didn’t bother. I do commend the customer service here at this Café Adobe location, they are so friendly and check on their customers often!

After my visit I am glad I wasn’t the only one that didn’t care for their service/food. The scenery outside is probably the only upside to this place. The outdoor patio next to the water with the ducks is very nice. But, during the war we days be prepared for pests and mosquitos. The food is decent for Tex-Mex and the service is just down right bad. Servers are semi knowledgable and just lack a true sense of proper training. I’m not expecting fine dining but, at least have some core basic training. Servers were always in a rush and constantly got orders mixed up or I had to frequently request my items twice. I’d like to see this place work out but, I think management has some fine tuning to do.

For your Tex-Mex fix, Café Adobe hits the spot. Service is great and fast, and the food is delicious. They have a really nice outdoor eating area that’s perfect when the weather is just right. Our waitress was very attentive and polite and always checking on us. They also have a pretty decent happy hour. We’ll definitely be back.

Great fajitas. Hubby loves: fish tacos, seafood enchiladas, shrimp Bravo. Spinach enchiladas are the best I’ve ever had. Patio seating with fans & covered area, for the adventurous. Full bar, great margaritas or any cocktail you desire!

You know this place has been around a long time and I almost forgot how beautiful it is being situated on the creek with a nice outdoor patio for dining or visiting with your friends. The ambience inside is pretty nice and the lunch specials are very reasonably priced! Now the food is NOT exceptional by any means but it’s decent and the waiter we had, Jose has been there for years and he is without a doubt a character. We just enjoyed sitting in air conditioned comfort and enjoyed the view! A nice relaxing place to have lunch or meet friends I would suggest this place if you just want a place where you can talk and catch up.

Ambience: The outside of this place looks great. And they have beautiful ducks walking around the front. The inside décor reminds me of the inside of true Mexican architecture. They have a nice covered patio area for dining outside in optimum temperature. Service: I was greeted and seated promptly upon arrival. My waitress came over within a few minutes of being seated. She quickly took my drink order and recommended the happy hour special. I decided to try«the perfect margarita». The server returned quickly with my drink. She gave me enough time to place my order without being overly bearing. She was very pleasant and extremely attentive through my meal. Overall the service was outstanding. Food: The margarita was very good and had a nice flavor. It was very watered down for the price though. Even during happy hour it was $ 9. The food is pretty pricey. Comparable to Pappasitos, however that is where the comparison ends. The food was a big disappointment. The chips were stale, but the salsa was ok. I ordered the combo plate with a seafood enchilada, chicken sour cream enchilada and a beef fajita taco. The black beans and rice that accompanied the meal were very bland. The enchiladas dry and underwhelming. The fajita meat was thick but dry and tough. The food was a big let down and even more so because of the price. Maybe if it was like $ 10 it would have been easier to swallow but not $ 20. This food reminded me of Taco cabana or somewhere similar.

Food was ok. Atmosphere was key. They have an amazing patio and the weather was perfect for it. Food was flavorful but not any different that most Mexican restaurants. Chips and salsa were great!

Standard Mexican food IMO. The cool thing is that on nice days, the patio is great — you can sit in the covered area or the uncovered area, and the uncovered area of the patio overlooks the water(a creek?). There’s also an adjacent area down some steps where there’s a gazebo. A nice place to eat outdoors. I got the Street Tacos(3 very small(3 – 4 bites each) tacos — 1 each of pulled pork, grilled chicken, and beef fajita meat; comes with a scoop of rice and small cup of beans). It was pretty good but a little bit pricey for the small amount of food that you get. It was enough to fill me up, but for someone with a larger appetite it probably wouldn’t be enough(unless you ate a lot of their complimentary chips & salsa). Their complimentary tortilla chips were standard. Complimentary red and green(tomatillo?) salsas — I really liked the red salsa.

Tex Mex is in high supply down South so you better be on your game to keep your crowd coming. I’ve been going to this Café Adobe for over 10 years since the originally opened(yeesh I’m old =P). That goes to show they’re doing something right… right? Well they don’t necessarily excel at anything but I have to note their fajita chicken Quesadillas never does my taste buds wrong. It’s prepared very well and I often order it. Has a subtle sour/succulent taste to it that, in my honest opinion, puts it up there as top 3 I’ve had. I’ve also tried the Chimichanga with fajita chicken which is good not great. Nothing special about but it definitely won’t disappoint you. Another favorite of mine is the«Fried Ice Cream». They probably prepare it in my favorite way with 2 large vanilla ice cream balls in a honey oat crust encompassing them. Now Mexican restaurants prepare this dish in various ways but as I stated previously, Café Adobe fixes it up my favorite. Margaritas are alright but again nothing special. I’ve had the top shelf house on the rocks and frozen, raspberry frozen, and strawberry frozen. Worth the purchase especially during happy hour 11 A.M. to 7 P.M.(very favorable hours) but don’t expect to be blown away. I’m a frequent visitor every time I’m back in town so the fact they lure me in for this long shows you it warrants a visit. Never had problems with the service and the atmosphere is casual/dressy. There’s patio seating as available as well.

Café Adobe is one of those places I love to hate going to. It’s never at the top of my mind when wanting good Mexican food,(mostly because it’s a little pricey for what you get), but I always end up enjoying my experience when I do go. Maybe I should stop going only during happy hour… Overall, their food is OK, but prices are almost as much as Pappasitos. I usually opt for enchiladas but I have tried their shrimp tacos, which were probably the best item I’ve had on the menu. Ballpark Nacho appetizers are just a huge mush of beans and cheese with lots of other toppings thrown on top. We couldn’t even eat the last half of them because the chips were too soggy. Service has been hit or miss, too. If you sit on the patio at lunch or in the middle of the day, be prepared to wait. A lot. I understand servers aren’t thrilled when a group comes in and just wants happy hour drinks and an appetizer(which is what we did during our last visit), but our server was just downright rude about it. And it wasn’t busy at all! Isn’t it better to have a table full of drinkers at 3 in the afternoon than no tables?

For me, the only reason to go to Adobe was the outdoor dining, because the food was mediocre, at best. However, things have changed! I have been going on and off for years, since they opened, but usually because someone else wants to go there, and the patio is nice. Recently, within the past few years they really have gotten better and it’s not just me that noticed. My wife and children have also commented on the recent improvement, Food seems more flavorful, and usually fresher too. Price is reasonably priced. Service is never fast or outstanding, which is one of their biggest problems. Another is consistency, which it is not. All this said, give them a try during rush hour, when the kitchen turnover is greater. You might be surprised, in a good way, I hope. Pro: Good tex-mex Pro: Patio dining Pro: Fantastic drinks! Margaritas are excellent! Con: Service is uninspired Con: Quality and freshness of food occasionally suffers

We came here on a rainy day. Other than us there happened to be two other people in the entire restaurant. The service was decent our waiter seem nervous like he didn’t know what he was doing and it was kind of slow service even though there really wasn’t anyone else there. The food was not great. My enchilada felt like it had been sitting out for an hour and just didn’t taste good. I would say the best thing was the salsa that was on the table because overall the food was very boring and bland. I’m used to California Mexican food and this was definitely not up to par. What I did like was the tortilla soup. It was flavorful especially with the cilantro.

In Texas, the competition in the Tex-Mex eatery world is brutal. There is a Tex-Mex restaurant or taqueria on every corner of every street in any Texas city. I don’t think Café Adobe measured up to the local competitions. My daughter and I received the usual free chips with green and red salsa to start thing off. We ordered sour cream enchiladas and ground beef chimichanga for dinner. Both came with rice and black beans on the side. The black beans were bland, canned black beans tasted better. The rice was not any better, under seasoned and very hard and dry. The enchiladas and chimichanga were below average, certainly not as good tasting as Berryhill’s or Camelo’s. The best tasting dish on our table was the red salsa. Only the excellent service by our waiter saved Café Adobe from getting 1 star from us.

My husband and I came here for a few reasons: 1. we live in the area, 2. our first date was at the Café Adobe on Westheimer & Shepherd(that is no more), and 3. we were craving Tex-Mex food. I miss the green salsa they had that was avocado based. The new green salsa is alright, but the avocado based salsa was just better. The red salsa is still delicious! The service was good and our server was incredibly sweet. We will definitely come back here again, probably sitting outside since that patio looks gorgeous!(The interior is great too!)

In short: decent food when served as the menu described, service lacks! Would have given 1.5 star, but since no ½ stars can be awarded we gave it 2, since they made up for their deficit by comping my meal I gave them another star my total is 2.5 but we must make it a 3. Here’s the nitty gritty… Where to start, first we were not greeted at the door by a hostess so we went to the bar thinking we would receive better and faster service then waiting for a table. The bartender greeted us in a timely manner however the the timeliness of food and beverage was another matter all together. My BF ordered a large queso and chips and waters to start while we decided what else to order, however the bartender waited to deliver those items until we ordered cocktails and delivered the beverages chips and salsas(no queso) together. By the time we received our queso we were out of chips and requested another basket which took another several minutes(after making the same request twice). Our meals arrived quite quickly, he ordered the Shrimp Bravo combo with beef fajitas which was good portion size and flavorful shrimp and beef. I ordered the Avocado and Mango Salad with Grilled Shrimp. My salad did not arrive as it was described on the menu. The sole bartender was too busy making drinks for the staff and trying her Spanish lessons on the only other bar customer to realize something was wrong with my meal. We stopped the manager as he was walking by and I explained that the salad hardly resembles the description in the menu. The salad should come with Spring Mix(it was a iceberg mix, no roasted jalapeños, and drizzled with lemon vinaigrette(there wasn’t even so much as a misting of dressing). He stated they«make the mix in house and maybe they ran out I will check, and the roasted jalapeños are finely diced, perhaps did you have not yet come across one, I apologize, and I’ll check on the dressing too. He retuned with a side of dressing and sliced jalapeños, placing them on the bar then stated they have the other salad mix at which point he asked if I would like for them to make the salad over with the correct mix, to which I said yes please! Several minutes later the bartender comes over and asks if I haven’t used the salad dressing could she have it because they are making more dressing but need it for a salad now. I said as long as it’s for my salad sure! She looked very confused then said«oh you don’t have yours?» A few more minutes went by and she returned with my new salad and said give me a minute more, they are making a few more shrimp to make up for the ones you ate from your other salad. The new salad with my old shrimp and 3 freshly grilled shrimp were much better than the originally delivered salad. We asked the bartender for the tab and a to go container to which she placed the tab in a glass and never stated the salad was comped just turned and walked away without an apology for my order being incorrect or even delayed, nor for her own lack of recognition. While we are thankful they comped the salad, we were surprised the manager did not make another contact with us to ensure our satisfaction. Return visit expected? NO!

ok, so I haven’t been to any Café Adobe in a few years, and yesterday my sister drove to Sugar Land for a hair appointment and wanted to meet up for lunch. In the past, I ALWAYS ordered the fried avocado and nothing else this time I decided to break the mold. I started with the Poblano Corn Chowder that was good but nothing to rave about. I ordered the Chicken Fajitas as my meal and have to say they were very dry and just not that good. I am not a huge fan of Pappasito’s but their Chicken Fajitas are way better. Our waitress was a little spaced out as well; she always seemed to have this deer in the headlights look when we asked for something or even when we ordered. We had to ask for extra salsa twice and did not get it until we were nearly done with our meal. We decided to order coffee because I picked up my sister’s favorite petite fours, and the coffee tasted bitter and very burnt. I am positive I will never return to this location again.
