Our waitress was extremely nice. I met the owner and she was also extremely nice. When my wife received her waffles they were the absolute worst we have ever eaten. My wife is a chef and by tasting she believes that their waffle mix was off and in complete. Whoever mixed it had left out some ingredients. I tasted it and it tasted like a flowery piece of cardboard. They were nice enough to take it back and my wife ordered pancakes which were very good. The owner seemed angry that we will question her waffles. She no longer spoke to us from that point on. The rest of the meal was good but not great. The bread that they make on location was very good. We ordered sausage patties because we were told THEY made them also. We found it hard to believe that this a house made sausage. It tasted just like a McDonald’s patty — ok but not custom produced. The quality falls between IHOP and Black Bear Diner. I do not dislike the place but if we never ate there again it would be okay.

Been a patron of the Fairfield Joy of Eating for many years now. That being said I won’t be coming to this establishment any longer due to the fact that I was horribly disgusted to find a dead fly on the lettuce in my fish and chips entrée. I now question their health and cleanliness standards. Sadly I will be forgoing this location to go to Vallejo Joy of Eating since I have not witnessed anything nastily horrendous like I did at Fairfield Joy of Eating. I did notify the staff about the dead fly found in my food & they were apologetic then told me they will take it off the tab. I appreciated the empathy but wouldn’t have minded paying for the food knowing full well that I will not be coming back here. Furthermore, why do I even give 2 stars you ask? — I was a loyal customer here & I loved the small town coziness of the place. Being a regular I was able to have the comfortable familiarity of the staff & other customers. I loved being able to support a local business as well. — The food was good! Besides for the caveat or finding a nasty fly in my food. To which I wonder if I just happened to miss bugs in my food before. The world will never know. The in-house made bread is soooo buttery good! My favorites are the make your own omelet, monte cristo, sunrise omelet, fish & chips, & crab sandwich! That being said, I would caution people to eat at your own risk. I’ll be visiting the Vallejo location instead.

One of my favorite places to go to breakfast. They get extremely packed on the weekends but the servers always do their best and they are always very kind. Even the kitchen staff is wonderful

Food is decent. Bread is excellent. French Toast is plentyful! Didn’t have to wait to be seated, but they were busy.

Food was perfect. Home style potatoes were made from real potatoes. Red potatoes to be exact. The home made bread was perfectly made. Pancakes were also perfect. Everything tasted home made nothing was frozen. We will definitely be coming back

My husband and I come here at least once per week — it is kind of ridiculous, really. But the food is delicious, the service is great, and the prices are reasonable. As everyone else has said, the homemade bread is to die for. The home style potatoes are also a must-have. The service is honestly outstanding. The waitresses are all friendly, fast, and good at what they do. Love this place!

Well, I brought my wife here for breakfast because I came here around one month ago. The service was not good, I had to keep asking for coffee refills and the waitress was bothered. Anything I asked for she was irritated by my asking and made us feel like they could care less about giving us good customer service. The restaurant was not even full and the walls were so dirty with food stains. I can’t understand why a restaurant that has a good amount of customers supporting it by eating there would not take better care of there customers, and keep it clean. I will not be back no matter how good the food is, which the food was not all that. Do your self a favor and go elsewhere or to crepes in Fairfield.

Probably just go to babs… you’ll have to wait in line, but at least they have a list. Today me and several others went to joy of eating. We showed up and there were several groups in front of us, but they didn’t have a list?? ? They said, «we know the order,» and then fifteen to twenty minutes later when more tables were available they walked up and asked who had been waiting the longest… THEFOOD: I got the«Suisun omelette», and it was really pretty good! I always try to get hash browns as crispy as possible, and these were almost not crispy enough. Last time I went to joy of eating I asked for the hash browns«offensively crispy» and they still came out soggy, so I think it’s all just the chef that day. My friend ordered a dish with scrambled eggs, and they were gross and runny… I tried some and had no desire to eat any more. This is the reason for two stars instead of three. THEBOTTOMLINE: People make a big deal about this place, and I just don’t get it. It’s okay. It’s not really bad, and it’s not like I would never go back, but there are other, better options.

I love this breakfast spot! Used to go to their original Vallejo location for their amazing breakfasts & to-die-for homemade bread — now come here instead. Huge portions. Affordable prices. Available seating. Cute town.

I came here since most brunch spots were crowded. On a Sunday the place is busy but hardly a wait. I ordered the #2 breakfast, 2 eggs scrambled, house potatoes, 2 pieces of house made toast and meat of choice(corn beef hash). I didn’t care too much for the potatoes, they were pretty standard, it was half mashed half solid. I had to add lots of salt and pepper. The eggs were good. The main things that stood out to me were the corn beef hash and toast. The corn beef hash is a really good size(+.50) it was pressed into a patty and crispy on the outside. The toast definitely tasted homemade. It just lacked a bit of butter. Nice thick slices. I ordered a pink lemonade but switched it out for an orange juice. It didn’t taste right to me but My husband said it was home made also. I think the food is okay, but I wouldn’t choose it over other brunch spots.

We tried to eat here this morning and the service was 50% sub par and 50% understaffed. We are locals and our typical place is Crepes n more but having never tried this Joy but have been to Vallejo’s we thought we’d try it out. We walk in and it’s pretty busy 12 tables 2 people(one buster one waitress). No one greets us so I ask the guy at the counter if you wait or seat your self… He has no idea what I’m asking. Ok?!? Waitress tells us to have a seat and gives us menu’s… So we wait and wait and wait and wait, other tables come in and the same buster can speak to help them but not us… Wait… waiting wait… Waitress says do you want something to drink?!? Yes that would be nice, coffee? Get two coffees no creamer she goes to take someone else’s order… Mean time another couple comes in asks do they wait or seat themselves?! Sit and straight get up and leave! Another couple had to walk and ask to get their coffee refilled since you’re pretty much on your own… We got up and walked out after the other couple, terrible! Yes they were understaffed but what little customers interaction there was was not good at all. We left and went to Crepes n more where we sat, had coffee, creamer and menus in 2 mins and they were packed too! They appreciate your business! I’m sorry I’ll never stray again!!!

Holy! This place is great. I’m a local, and I’ve been eating at next-door-neighbor Babs for the longest time, but I only tried this place for the first time today. I got the sunrise omelette with bacon and avocados with a side of their potatoes with green onion and some bomb, sweet toast… Sooooo freakin’ good! Their omelette was huge and it was stuffed with so much avocado and bacon and the melted cheese on top was the perfect icing to my favorite breakfast meal. But… The best part was the potatoes! I would have called it smashed potatoes. It was half mashed half solid potatoes but the green onion and their seasoning made it soooo good. It was the perfect side to the huge omelette. It was a lot of food for me to be able to take home for round two. Ohhhh and before I forget, the toast was an amazing dessert! It was sprinkled with I think cinnamon or some sugar! It was like eating a churro at the very end of my meal. The toast was also so thick! I only could eat one of the two, so I took that home as well. For 9.95 it was worth it! Two meals for the price of one. Thanks! I will definitely come back(partly because I forgot to take a picture of my meal before it was gone haha, but also because it was so good!)

One of the many breakfast places I go to. This is the place where I go with friends to chat up on life and enjoy some good grub! One of the best things is their bread is good and servings are huge! Now there are a few cons when it comes to this restaurant. First thing I noticed is this place fills up quick and there’s a lot of people who waiting up front and there is no hostess. Also once it gets busy the servers have a tendency to forget you.

Well, this will be a mixed review to be sure. If I could give 2 ½ stars, I would. I brought my teenaged son here after church for lunch. He got breakfast, I got lunch; we both left full and happy, which is a great place to start. He got their pancakes, which were huge and which he described as fluffy but filling; he also got ham and eggs(scrambled and a bit soupy) and hash browns, which he gobbled down first. This is a kid with a hollow leg, so to fill him up is quite a feat – but this meal did. My sandwich was also generously portioned. I got their BAT, bacon-avocado-tomato sandwich, which also came with mayo and lettuce on their house made bread, toasted. The sandwich I was excellent, with generous amounts of all ingredients. The bread is worth commenting on, as it really took the sandwich to another level; white bread that when toasted had almost an English muffin texture, and almost a cornbread sweetness. I got it with seasonal fruit that was fresh and delicious, a great meal. Our waitress was attentive and sweet, and while the food wasn’t fast, it wasn’t really slow either. All that said, I am not sure I’ll be back. We walked in and stood in front of the door, feeling like idiots; there’s no ‘please wait to be seated’ sign(which would actually be very helpful), and there’s no hostess. It seems that whatever waitress spots you looking around is supposed to bring you to a table; very awkward. While we ate, I watched as one large party stood at the door looking awkward for quite a while, while the 3 waitresses seemed to be busy with other things behind the counter. They also seem to do a kind of haphazard bussing of tables; the waitress who seated us scooted some crumbs off onto the seat as she set the menus down. The décor is rather haphazard as well. There is train memorabilia, and a really cool metal piece of artwork with the restaurant name on it, and some of the light fixtures are industrial looking and funky, while the lamp-fan fixtures look like they came from someone’s living room in the 90’s. There were spots on the ceiling that looked like there’d been repairs done but no re-painting. The booths are burgundy and high backed, and I think they are supposed to be reminiscent of a train, but they look like a holdover from a Chinese buffet, an impression made stronger by the dark, shiny wood tables. The flooring is a bit grungy, and their bathroom could have used some tidying up – not filthy, but not well tended. The interior of this place could really use a good decorator, a unifying look, and some diligent housekeeping. I might come back for the food, but the less than welcoming setup and décor will make me think twice.

The food was great, up until my boyfriend damn near choked on a sharp piece of plastic that was in his omelet. We brought it to our waitress’s attention, and she answered with, «what do you want me to do about it?». I looked at her, while my man was in tears at this point from coughing, and told her to bring it to management’s attention. She looked at us as if we brought in plastic for him to set them up. She comes back, explaining that the plastic came off of the sour cream tub, apologized and took his omelet off the bill. My boyfriend never wants to come back again, just for what she said.

Holy bread heaven. The in-house bread is really the star and I believe they bake a different kind regularly. The one I tried on my most recent visit was some combination of crack, carbohydrates, and sin. I kid you not. The bread probably hit on all five of the basic tastes. The portions are generous and two slices come with most meals. Do try the french toast because it is made with whatever in-house bread they’ve baked and it is divine. I wish I had thought to ask what it was but honestly I was so stuffed that my mind left the building. I’ll be honest, I originally came to the area hoping for Bab’s(around the corner) but they were impossibly full so I came here for the first time and it didn’t disappoint. Bab’s still takes the cake but nn bread alone I’d re-visit Joy of Eating.

Ummm, I wish I could review this place properly, but I can’t, because… I walked in the door on a Sunday morning, while the rest of my group stood outside. A half a dozen other people were also crammed in that small waiting area, all looking around for a hostess or someone else to greet/seat us. No one came by. There was no host podium or waiting list anywhere to be seen. The waitresses were too far away and too fast to call out to or make eye contact with. No one knew what was happening. Slowly people just started leaving, and so did I. Seriously. Is this a thing? Do they not have a hostess working there? The place was packed and it wasn’t a «seat yourself» kind of place. Must have waited for 20+ minutes before giving up. Everyone was pissed and confused. Fine, whatever. Bab’s is right around the corner.

The Joy of Eating. What can I say about this small quaint place? I loved eating at this café. The fact that it is right on the marina makes it an excellent place to eat after a morning stroll along bank side. I love all of the dark wood. It makes me think of eating breakfast on a small yacht. Our waitress was great. I can’t remember her name but she made us feel right at home. So I would have to say that the service was great here. I had a build your own 3 egg omelette which taste fabulous. My bf had the French toast. He loved his food too. The portions here are decent and the food is not a bad price. I will definitely be returning to this Café for breakfast.

Came here for a brunch get together with friends in a Monday. Honestly, we had Babs in mind but didn’t know they were closed on Mondays. I was the first one of the group to show up and was able to get a table while waiting for everyone else to show. That’s nice that they didn’t make me wait for the rest of my party to be seated. Had a booth near the door. We ended up having one more than expected, so I asked one of the waitresses if we could switch to a bigger table. She was rude about it. I apologized for it, not knowing we’d need a bigger table, but she just walked off to the kitchen to grab her next order. Ooooook. Another lady, looked like she is a manager or owner ended up showing us to a bigger table. The place was busy, but only seemed to have like 3 waitresses waiting. Our waitress was nice but kept forgetting things. The food was ok, nothing amazing. Their famous toast is quite tasty. Seems like it’d be a great bread to use for a croquette madam. The homestyle potatoes were under seasoned. :( If I had to choose between Joy of Eating and Babs… Babs wins.
