Love this spot for Dinner anytime and Snday brunch!!! The owners are always there and make EVERY attempt to please us! The menu changes seasonally and always has fresh seafood that is out of this world! I am a huge fan of the Sunday biscuits-never had another biscuit that is better!!! Staff is awesome-a gem of a spot on the island!

Fantastic brunch. My wife had a breakfast casserole and I had the apple French toast. Both were incredible. Location is right in the main stretch on Sullivan’s. Service was very personal and friendly. They even let us in 15 minutes before opening. We will be back the next time we are in Charleston … and probably every time ongoing.

Not many restaurants would let me take leftovers on a plate with Saran Wrap and a promise to return the plate. The food is wonderful and the service matches it.

Amazing food, good people, lots to eat. Had Sunday brunch, wait was a little long but worth it. Had the French Toast. Wish apples were on the side, since they got a little mushy. Overall, good experience will go back again. Frank G

We ate there for brunch this past Sunday. Simply amazing. Friendly staff, delicious food, great atmosphere. We had a last minute change to our reservation and they didn’t blink an eye to accommodate us. I just read a review in the Post and Courier that High Thyme had the best grits around. That’s saying a lot for being in the South!

The owner is the sweetest woman ever and she is almost always present and often behind the bar working. The atmosphere is present but a primarily older crowd. It’s a great place to grab and appetizer or a few drinks but if you’re supper hungry you may end up spending fortune to fill yourself up!

Food was delicious, service was slow but well worth the wait! Went for brunch and had the eggs Benedict and they were delicious. They use country ham instead of the typical Canadian bacon which completely made my day! I would go back for brunch again!

Our neighborhood dinner club had our monthly«meeting» here this past weekend, and around the table we had mixed reviews. I will say, for a small space they did handle our reservations for 8 at 7pm quite well. Our waitress was friendly. Foodwise… Mixed. I had their special Lamb Chili appetizer, it was spicy, but, unfortunately nothing spectacular about the lamb. I just could not distinguish that there was lamb in the chili over any other meat based chili, which was really disappointing because, I wanted their Lamb Shank on their main menu, but didn’t want two lamb dishes. Oh, well, I will talk about their Lamb Shank later. My main course was their Grilled Yellowfin Tuna with White Bean Purée, Grilled Asparagus Salad, Red Chile Chimichurri, Soy Glaze, with a requested temperature of Medium Rare. The White Bean Purée was OUTSTANDING, loved the texture and flavors, the salad was good. The Tuna was thick and generally well cooked. It WAS med-rare, but still, it was rather dry near the outside, but still, I got my Tuna steak fix out of the way. Two people had their Braised Lamb Shank with Smoked Gouda Grits, Shredded Bacon Brussels Sprouts, Lamb Jus; this was fall off the bone Lamb Shank and I REALLY wish I had ordered this. It WASOUTSTANDING!!! I will say the Grits were rather clumpy/dry. I would much rather have had them a little creamier.(My wife had the shank and was next to me, so as she talked, my fork wandered…). Also, at the table was their Veal, Pork & Beef Bolognese Lasagna which was a good size serving and although I personally did not taste this was told it was outstanding. Someone also had their special Lamb Meat Loaf, which looked good and was told also tasted well.(I do wish I had tasted this). Another had their special Grilled Duck which they said was well cooked and flavorful. The most disappointed dinner companion had ordered their steak which first came out WAY under cooked, and when regrilled, came out too spicy for the person. The manager offered to make up another meal and that was grilled chicken, which came out too over-cooked and very dry, mashed potatoes and green beans. This chicken plate made it to the table after all others had finished eating.(More later on this). We decided to have desserts since we had to wait. Three had crème brûlée, the listed one was an Irish Cream, but the waitress said they were running low but also had an orange crème brûlée, so two ordered the orange and one the irish cream. Having recently watched the most recent Master Chef Junior in which the contestants had to brown sugar on as many crème brûlée’s as possible and were told what the judges would grade on, I will say, all three of the ones presented to the table would have failed. The caramelized sugar was too thick and WAYOVER caramelized. Almost black instead of the light brown it was supposed to be. The actual Irish Cream Crème Brûlée, under the sugar was very light and I loved it, but my wife said the consistency was not thick/heavy enough for her liking. I had the Key Lime pie, which was not tart enough for my liking, I was thick, just not Key Limey enough for me. The Waitress brought out our seperate checks and did a decent job, with only one error, but the pair with the steak issue still had the steak on their check as well as the al-a-carte chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans. Waitress stated she had thought the manager had removed the steak already. Personally, for all the trouble and with this large group, I would have expected this persons entire meal to be comped. Oh, she had also ordered ginger ale, and someone had topped off her ginger ale with water during the meal.

Ambiance aside the best Sunday brunch all year. Biscuits and gravy to die for, great mimosas, excellent omelets, fantastic hash. Can’t go wrong here. Service excellent.

Decent breakfast. I prefer waiting for Poes or heading to Acme cantina on IOP. They are a bit stuffy for Island dining in my opinion If you really need something more formal– then have at it!

A Sunday brunch spot I can bike to, which is nice with limited options on the island. I would say everything about my experience was good, probably better than average. This is a tough town to compete in for brunch though! There seemed to be a little bit of confusion on getting in during the busy Sunday brunch time around 11am. A bunch of us were standing around not sure with whom we should be checking in(no reservations). Ultimately, we were seated outside pretty quickly, and even though it was hot outside, we seemed to do fine in the shade with quickly refilled water glasses. The vibe was pretty relaxed with a locals feel. I had the chicken chili omelet(really was more like shredded chicken, black beans and peppers), which was huge and filling. Thanks for not balking at my «no cheese» request. They kindly offered a side of fruit salad when I squirmed over the usual starchy side choices. I’d order both again! There was plenty of other enticing menu options, too. I’ll definitely go back and look forward to trying dinner.

DATEOFVISIT: Thursday July 17th2014 around 5:30PM with a large group of more then 20 people. FIRSTIMPRESSIONS: Good curb appeal and location. The inside was well laid out and nice. MENUAPPEAL&OPTIONS: Lots of creative and interesting options with lots of local staples too. FOODPRESENTATION: Very good! Attention to detail was paid to all the dishes ordered by our large group. FOODQUALITY: Very good. Between the 20 of us we probably had just about all the items on the menu and they were all good. SERVICE: There were 4 servers waiting on our group and overall they were good, but the one at our table was very slow. The five people sitting with me were the last to get our check and the last to leave. OVERALL: I definitely recommend High Thyme and will go back the next time I am in the area.

The most consistent chef in Charleston with the best service. Stop by and meet Emily, the owner/hostess of the mostess/bartender…she is fab-u-lous! . P. S. Don’t forget about brunch, too!

This island-style restaurant is a perfect complement to the city of Charleston. It is small, and has a wonderful outdoor patio to enjoy the Charleston weather. The seafood entrees and deserts were first class, but the cocktails were lacking a bit of flavor for the price. I greatly recommend this place for a date, but I would recommend that they step up their game on the cocktails.

Sunday brunch was fair. I love salt, so when I think food is too salty, it usually is. The complimentary biscuits were perfectly fluffy. My biscuits and gravy were smothered in extremely salty, sausage gravy. I was hungry but couldn’t really eat much of it. The shrimp and grits were bittersweet. The shrimp were succulent, perfectly cleaned and cooked. The grits were divine. The red sauce on top was pure salt. Oversized but overpriced mimosas($ 7). Local competitors are charging $ 2.50 to $ 5 and they are better. Suggestion: Make the drink half the price and half the size so one does not have to commit to a large drink that is not their taste. Service was good. I can see the appeal here but probably won’t brunch here again soon.

Ok, I went here for the first time recently. I am currently limited with the things I can eat(the whole paleo thing which by the way, I have an extreme amount of energy since stating a week ago!). So, when I looked at the menu ahead of time, I found an entrée that was suitable to what I could have. Well, when we got there, it was Tapas Tuesday, which is fine, except that means NO normal menu. I had a difficult time trying to find something to eat. I settled on the fish stew(close enough to paleo, and avoided the bread that came with it). It was decent tasting. I’m not sure how«tapas» friendly the menu is really. It’s more like a cheaper menu option. I don’t think my entrée was especially easy to share, which is what tapas is supposed to be about. Also, if I knew that the regular menu wouldn’t be available, I would’ve chosen a different place. The service… it was mediocre at best. The waitress didn’t really come back around to check on us. We got one spoon for the fish stew(again, not very tapas friendly). This place gets 2(I started out with 3 until I wrote item number 2 below, I’d give the place 2.5) stars for the following: 1. The outside area is a plus! 2. The customers were more informative and friendly than the staff. I actually had a random person help me decide what I wanted to eat.(doesn’t the waitress typically do that?) At places with a more pricey menu, I find the waitstaff usually will recommend a few things that they find enjoyable or are popular and introduce that it’s Tapas Tuesday. Maybe I expect too much. To be honest, I thought we were just handed a wine and special menu. I kept waiting for the regular menu to be brought out until the waitress asked if we were ready to order… strange, very strange. 3. The food was decent, although the choices were a bit peculiar.

Came here with my boyfriend for brunch and was a cool place. Love that this place had a great atmosphere. In a nice Cottage converted into a eatery. Had the special was a meat lovers omlette. I am very picky about my omlettes but man this was a fluffy omlette! I also had the orange cinnamon brioche french toast. My boyfriend had the Shrimp and Grits which were amazing! We also had bloody marys and mimosas. All in all I reccommend coming to this place. Great find. Will defintely be back.

Sad face. I’m thrilled to be at our beach place for almost a week for the holidays, and to spend time with my family. Unfortunately, our first meal out together was. .. «meh.» I hadn’t been here in awhile and was game when my mom suggested it. Tuesday is tapas night and there are about a dozen options. I wasn’t impressed with any of them — either the crab cake had shrimp in it(I don’t eat shrimp) or the pork carnita had a side with tomato(I’m trying to avoid citrusy things) or the steak came with. .. you get the idea. It was just a weird menu. I ended up not ordering and just observing what everyone else thought. My brother’s scallops were good(but with parsnips? odd, methinks) and Dad did try the shrimp-and-crab cake, Mom had a small salad with salmon — but no one was wowed. Our server was very inattentive(Was it because we were all drinking water? Bro did order a glass of wine part-way into the meal, but.. . Not sure if she was just hurried/etc, but she did stand at one corner of the table to refill all four glasses, reaching across everyone — not polite). It was also pretty loud, which is notable because the restaurant is small, the bar area is small and the dining room is carpeted. Weird. The server also clearly didn’t ring in orders according to seat number, and when the manager ran our food, she«auctioned it off.» I’ve always been told this is a no-no and as a server, if I got confused about seat numbers, I made notes about who ordered what so I could deliver it correctly — and I did it myself. Looking forward to better future dining experiences this week, but probably not at High Thyme.
