I’m not a sushi person… But my husband is and he has been trying to convert me. Well, my friend has been raving about this place so we decided to try it out. All I can say is … This place doesn’t compare to any other sushi I’ve had before. Truly amazing. Every single thing we tried was amazing! Don’t think I could go anywhere else after this. And our waiter Eric was phenomenal. Will be returning, hopefully soon.

Excellent and inventive menu, delicious apps and rolls. The invincible sandwich is a must, and chefs tasting was amazing. I will definitely be back soon.

We’ve been hearing about Arata for a while, but ever since it’s been on Restaurant Hunter, it moved to the top of our list. It’s very close to the Syosset train station, so that is very convenient for an after work stop for those commuters out there. We sat at the sushi bar but didn’t interact much with the sushi chefs. Still, the food and service were great. We started with the poke tuna and then had 3 rolls: Volcano, Prestige, and Whopper. All the fish was very fresh. The rolls were unique and actually tasted different, which I find is not always the case at sushi spots. I would definitely come back.

A bit pricey for the good stuff, but well worth it. The«special sushi» reminded me of the stuff served at a number of Southern California Japanese restaurants I once frequented. While the sushi purists will scoff at the notion of defiling the sacred morsel with capers, jalapeño slices, cilantro sauce or crispy arugula, I can tell you that these combinations of goodies enhance, not mask, both the flavor of the fish and the texture of the rice. Good for you, Chef Jimmy, and thank you for going with your gut and doing something that is truly different! «Different» extended beyond sushi to Arata’s beautifully marbled grade 5 Wagyu beef sushi. The meat is torch-seared rare and served over pressed rice. A little truffle oil is added to the top. Long story short, this heavenly morsel is hands down the best single thing I’ve ever tasted. Burst of flavor, melt in your mouth, yada yada. So if you’d rather not battle NYC with traffic on your way to Sushi Yasuda, or nothing to mortgage to afford a dinner at Masa, breeze over to Arata Sushi. Plenty of parking, no traffic and the best Sushi outside of Manhattan.

Wow! The sushi was amazing! I’m annoyed I’m not still there eating. Make a reservation — it’s busy. Rivals city sushi restaurants.

Went last night for probably the fifth time now and have not been disappointed yet. I never thought that the best sushi I have ever had would be in Syosset NY but after five visits the consistency is there and I have to concede! Have tried about 5 different appetizers and who knows how many rolls in addition to the Chefs choice menu. Amazing.

I rarely give five stars. Great food. Great unique flavors. I tried this place after seeing it on the show Restaurant Hunters of Verizon Fios channel 1. I tried the arata sushi special, which was ten unique pieces of sushi not found on the menu. The flavors of each one were so unique and special. I also tried the crunchy spicy tuna roll, which is a very popular roll, and it was one of the best I ever had. I would definitely return.

I came here for my co workers bday lunch. It’s an intimate setting, they automatically gave us water with lemon. I usually have to request lemon. I ordered the rib eye bento box. The miso soup was good, small pieces of seaweed n tofu instead of large chunks which I don’t like. The flavor was good too. The salad was fresh but I didn’t care for the dressing, it wasn’t the typical sweet ginger it more tasted like soy sauce a salty flavor. The steak was so good and the vegetables were cooked well and seasoned good, they also had cabbage in it which isn’t typical. I asked for eel sauce on my California roll it was so good. The shumai was perfectly cooked it had a crisp too it. Overall the meal was great but the service wasn’t all that, probably due to language barrier but they were polite

This review is solely for the 10 piece omakase. My husband and I sat at the sushi bar and received excellent service. All the sushi chefs were very friendly and Chef Jimmy talked to us a bit about sushi and shop. Let me say that there’s no authentic«omakase» on Long Island, so this place is a real treat! Each piece was AWESOME… creative, fun, and just a party in your mouth. Sushi quality is superb and the mix of flavors is nothing short of interesting and unique. After our omakase, we wanted to try a roll. we ended up with the lover’s roll recommended by the staff. This roll came out topped with salad… my immediate thought was oh no… but it was more like OHYES! It followed the same tune as the omakase… unique, fun, and most importantly, delicious. I highly recommend that you come here for the omakase… and judging by the one roll we had, the rest of menu is likely sure to exceed your expectations.

Let me start off by saying that I rarely give any restaurant 5 stars but if there was a way to give more here I would. After our son and daughter-in-law have been telling us about Arata for so long, we finally took a ride there early enough this past Saturday to get a table without having to wait. We each had the tasting menu which is a bit expensive but it shows off chef/owner Jimmy’s great talents. There were 5 sushi samples for each of us, each with its own sauce and flavors. The special kale roll was a crisp, melt-in-your-mouth delight with the most amazing sushi roll under the kale that was sprinkled all over it. We also shared a tuna whopper roll and those were both the 2 best sushi rolls we have EVER eaten ANYWHERE. The lemon roll was also terrific and the meal was so amazing that I can’t even remember what was in each roll! I was in awe with all the flavors in my mouth and just as our wonderful waiter said, you do not need any soy sauce since it would ruin the brilliant combinations of sauces and toppings that they put on the rolls. The other prices were average and our waiter was terrific, the service was great and I can’t wait to go back. I am kind of sorry that I am writing such a good review since i do not want more people to find out about them but they deserve the accolades since we have never had better rolls than these even after eating sushi about 3 times a month in several different restaurants for the past 20+ years.

I finally tried Arata with my friends from Syosset, who made the bold claim that their sushi rivals Kotobuki’s. We got it to go, so I can’t review the restaurant fully, as I haven’t experienced their in-person service. However, the sushi was really really good. I got a special roll called the Scallop Stiletto roll with spicy scallop and kani that was so delicious. I also tried the Arata Style Sushi with 5 pieces. While they didn’t necessarily LOOK the most appetizing, particularly the piece with the dark colored sauce on it, they all tasted great. I wasn’t even sure what each topping was but I loved them all, and I would highly recommend this dish. I really look forward to visiting the restaurant to try more special pieces!

WOW! My fellow Unilocalers are true to their reviews. I entered and was seated immediately I was offered specials as I am gluten free. Water was filled in my glass without prompt. I had a delicious sushi roll with spicy mayo. I was surprised they were as busy on a Tuesday night. The play great music while I was dining. I will be back

First time here and Arata has a nice selection of special rolls and hot and cold apps and entrees. Felt there was too much sauce on both the tuna whopper and special rolls which masked the actual taste of the fish. Asked for ginger dressing with tuna sashimi salad, it was loaded with chili paste and onions, not the usual dressing you get at other sushi restaurants and not a fan.

My boyfriend and I stopped by on our lunch break after reading some good reviews on Unilocal. To be honest, I wasn’t really expecting much because the place didn’t look that great from the outside and it was by the train station but I was pleasantly surprised! You really shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. I ordered the shoyu ramen and and king salmon. My boyfriend ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box. We were both pleased with our meal! The ramen is probably the best I’ve had around the area although there was bit too much ginger in it. The noodles were perfect and the broth was very tasty and full of flavor. The king salmon was fresh and it was interesting that they put truffle oil on the fish. Price-wise, the sushi is more expensive than places around the area, but it was pretty good. Service was good too! Our servers were very friendly and checked up on us from time to time but gave us enough space to enjoy our meal. I definitely want to return for dinner one day; I’m interested in trying more of their sushi. Until next time!

Since moving from Roslyn and blocks from one of the best sushi places around, Kotobuki, my wife and I have been searching(without much luck) for a new local sushi place with the same caliber sushi. Looks like we got lucky when we decided to try Arata. All of the rolls are creative, delicious and super fresh. I’m not one for the raw stuff but had some of my wife’s tuna and yeah, I’ll be ordering it next time I go. That’s how good it is. Absolutely delicious. The staff is friendly and the service is outstanding. To be honest, I think I may even like Arata better than Kotobuki because we didn’t have to wait for hours for a table. Hell, we didn’t have to wait at all. I’m so happy we found Arata, if it wasn’t for Unilocal,I’m not sure we would have stopped in. So thank you fellow Unilocalers.
