Drove by on accident after a meeting and Unilocaled it, reviews were decent but I think the food makes up for that. I had he chicken and beef plate and it was awesome. Next time I’m around I’ll be back!

The food, service, and cleanliness fell short of expectations, and the prices were high. This review is based on food, service, cleanliness, atmosphere, and value. After living in Hawaii for many years, I was ecstatic when I noticed a Hawaiian restaurant near home. Certain dishes are hard to find off the islands. There are other dishes that I’m glad I haven’t seen elsewhere. Not everything in Hawaii is great, and Maui Chicken seemed to bring the not so great to the mainland. First, let me mention what I liked about the restaurant. Next, the not so good. They were slow. On a daily basis in Hawaii, I heard people say, «slow down, Brudda, this is not the mainland». Well… Next, the door was propped open, and the fly fan was not working. Both not a big deal to me, just minor inconveniences. Finally, the bad. Cleanliness was an issue. The floor and tables were very messy. The dining room floors had trash and food scraps everywhere, and the table was sticky and gross. The restaurant was not busy, and two guys were just standing around chatting when I walked through the door. If the dining area was this bad, I’d hate to see the kitchen. The poke bowl I ordered came with salmon, which wasn’t listed anywhere in the menu. The salmon had the blood line, and skin. I know both are perfectly fine to eat, but when paying for sashimi grade fish, only the best cuts should be served. The skin I could deal with, but the blood line is a big no-no for me. The fried rice had a taste I can only describe as odd. The chicken katsu was somehow flavorless. For the price, this place should be operating flawlessly. Overall, the lackluster attitude will prevent me from returning.

I ordered the chicken teriyaki plate over the phone for pick-up for lunch. I was a little hesitant because of the reviews i had read regarding the chicken, but this is close to my job and had been on my «to try» list so i said, «what the heck, let me find out for myself.» Thought it was pretty good, they forgot the extra sauce i requested over the phone, but I guess i should have doubled checked before I walked out. I recommend you try it for yourself and be the judge. They also have lunch bowl specials.

Utterly horrible. Is it possible to give negative stars? I ordered the white fish plate which was comprised of white fish, salad, white rice, and macaroni potato salad for 9 bucks. The best thing on the plate by far was the plain white rice. The fish I believe was deep fried and possibly dipped in egg before hand then grilled to a nice black char. It was so far over cooked that it really wasn’t even fish anymore. The salad was just dry lettuce with maybe some hint of a dressing that tasted faintly sweet. However Ive saved the worst for last. The macaroni potato salad was something akin to wallpaper paste, only I’m pretty certain that wallpaper paste would have been tastier. It was so bad that I struggle for adjectives to describe it. What I can do is lend some advice. To the owners of Maui Chicken, take a look at your food, taste it all and make some objective decisions about what you are offering. If after you still feel you serve a quality product then I would suggest you get out of the restaurant business all together. To the would be guests that see the«4.99 Chicken Bowl» advertisement from the street and think to themselves, «I might ought to try that. The price is good and I like chicken and rice, how bad can it be?» Please do yourself this favor. Find the nearest gas station and buy one of those microwaveable burritos or one of those mystery sandwiches and pick up a bag of Doritos. If you do you will have stayed within the price point and doubled your quality. Or if you want to go ahead and part with the 9 bucks find a Panda Express and triple your quality.

It’s a 3.5. Prices are good. Food pretty good/decent. The beef had a little too much fat for me. Fast service. Portion sizes good.

I am aware that LA reviewers inflate the ratings of restaurants(perhaps due to loyalty). Like, King’s Hawaiian doesn’t deserve 4 stars(food is not good but the bakery items are delish). I don’t like leaving negative reviews, or reviews in general, but I felt you should know. I stopped into Maui Chicken because I was hungry passing by and how crowded it was inside. That was a good sign in my book. I ordered a chicken and beef plate, and both were fatty. The chicken had a nice marinaded taste, but I grew impatient separating good pieces from bad. The beef was totally inedible. The teriyaki sauce was yellowish and greasy on the rice. It looked like the fat drippings from the meats. Gross. The sesame oil salad dressing was the tastiest, but they put it on a pile of the whitish part of ice berg lettuce. I normally love leftovers. I tossed my plate from here after just a few bites, which I rarely do.(The only other place I did that was Papaya Bay in O’side, and they are no more). The poke bowl looked decent, as I saw other patrons with it. But with«chicken» in your name, you’d think the chicken would stand out here. I say, drive to Gardena and enjoy Pit Burger instead. I’ve been going there for decades and the food has always been consistent. If you like a sweeter teri sauce, Teri Hawaii is good and they have ume boshi shaved ice. Pros: –poke looks good –price –sesame dressing –self-serve water Cons: –parking is tight –fatty meats –grease on the rice –boring salad

Love this place and food! Always get beef plate, so delicious! But I must admit sometimes the beef isn’t well cook and taste like leftovers. Friendly staff. Also my friend called on Sunday and they are actually not closed on Sundays!

Great place to get some tasty food. I always get the chicken teriyaki plate. I have been always ordering on the phone and it’s been pretty easy to get what I want. They also make it pretty fast(Between 5 to 10min) so I come here when I need food fast. Be sure to call first if you are picking up.

Stopped at this place because we were hungry and Maui Chicken sounded good. This is our first time eating in one of the franchise. My husband ordered the chicken teriyaki plate and paid extra for all white meat. We got our food and started to eat, my husband complained that the chicken meat is smells old and super dry. He waited until the order counter is clear of customers and took his plate back and told the guy that there’s something wrong with the chicken. He asked for his money back and the guy gave it back to him. My husband returned to sit down and a few moments later the guy yelled from across the counter«BTW if you’re going to return your food back, don’t eat half of the plate!» So rude that another customer eating behind us stood up and told him how rude the man was. We have him back his money and he gladly took the money back. We will definitely not come back and will definitely not recommend this place. BTW we should have paid attention to how this place is managed. The restroom didn’t have soap in the dispenser and dirty, trash bin is sitting in the middle of the eating area without a liner, guy handling the cash register also hands out the food to the customer. In my opinion this place does not deserve a star. I should be able to give this a ½ star.

Wish I could give 3−½*s(not just 3). I like the chicken teriyaki… sauce seems lighter and sweeter than Rascals. Pricing is really reasonable here and dining area is clean and bright. The only two items I don’t recommend are the udon & won ton soup. Both are too spicy.

Fast food Hawaiian food is very good at Maui chicken I would highly recommend the salmon or ahi tuna pokey. The place is very clean and the variety of food excellent. I’ve also tried the soup and also their chicken plate and beef plate and I’m looking forward to next time on trying the ribs. The only thing I would change at Maui chicken would be the portions to make it a little bigger and also they’re very inconsistent as far as requests are made from them, like I wanted my chicken well done a few times and the chicken was actually a little bit under cooked for my taste. But I will definitely go back.

Randomly drove by Maui Chicken and was intrigued by the name and decided to pick up lunch. The food ended up being just okay. It’s comparable to Flame Broiler or WaBa Grill or any of the other teriyaki chicken bowl places. They have a couple more choices like chicken katsu and salmon teriyaki, but I didn’t try those. The chicken and beef teriyaki were fine, but the rice was dry and the salad was swimming in dressing. A woman came after me and ordered the tuna poke and it was $ 13! I don’t know how bit the portion is, but that seems fairly pricey. Overall, I think Maui Chicken is okay if you’re looking for a quick, healthy-ish bite in the area, but not worth going out of your way for.

This is my usual grind. But to my dismay the service was not quick, the cashier didn’t have change and everyone else was served before my order. I had to literally go up and ask for my food. I wasn’t even given chopsticks to eat with. Worst of all I ordered the chicken plate with extra mac. That means I want everything the freaking order comes with plus extra mac, because it’s really the best. What did I get, extra mac and no chicken salad. I sat down because by that time I was famished and the cashier was still stressing on making change. So I had no greens for my lunch. Pissed off to say the least. Suggestion, I f you aren’t prepared to take the heat when the lunch hour is on I suggest you find someone competent. Enough to be behind the counter and handle it all accordingly with efficiency as I gave seen it here before. The service is usually A÷÷÷÷.Not this time, heavy F guys.

Too long of a wait for overpriced poke! So disappointing. All I wanted was to satisfy my poke craving but when I asked the price difference without the salad, rice and Mac salad, it was ONLY A DOLLAR. Meaning, a poke plate cost around $ 11 and if I wanted just the poke itself, it would’ve cost me $ 10. Wtf??? I can get a pound of legit poke at that price!!! So of course I ended up just getting the plate. Which meant all the sides went to waste. Not only that but there was only 1 party that ordered before me but somehow it took almost half an hour to get my food?! 45 minutes total because we were standing in line waiting for the cashier to finally take our order because he was no where to be found for a good 15 minutes. Probably helping out in the back. Which is understandable but you can’t just leave the front of the house hanging like that for so long. I debated just walking out and going somewhere else but my cravings were yelling at me, telling me to just wait. The poke is good, but I’ve had better. And cheaper. I won’t be back… Unless I place a phone order before stopping by and have some extra cash to spend.

Maui Chicken is located in a strip mall. It’s a casual atmosphere. The chicken was tender and moist. I enjoyed the flavor. It had a Hawaiian taste, but it wasn’t overly sweet.

I remember the days when Maui Chicken was much cheaper and the food was of better quality. I typically go to the other location, but I came here for lunch one day since I work around the area. I called in a to-go order for a beef teri with fried shrimps. This has always been my go to meal when coming to Maui Chicken. I walked in to get my order and was shocked that they raised the price for this dish to almost $ 12! I remember when it was around $ 8 before. I know the price of goods has increased tremendously, but this was the only dish that had such an increase in price. Anyway, I decided that I was really craving Maui Chicken so it wasn’t that big of a deal. When I opened up my plate I was surprised to see that they did not give any of the orange looking dressing that I love so much. I guess they changed it to a Chinese chicken salad dressing. I was pretty disappointed… I used to put that dressing on my meat, fried shrimp, mac salad… literally everything! I was also pretty disappointed at the quality and quantity of the beef. It used to be so much better back in the day. Overall, I was pretty disappointed, but I will definitely give it another shot someday since I really want it to be the same as a few years ago. P. S. Bring back the orange dressing!

I love Maui Chicken! I used to go to their location on Redondo Beach Blvd in Gardena, but have now switched to this one. Its in a better area, and I’m on this side of town a lot more often. The chicken katsu is a staple of mine, as well as boyfriend’s and his parents’. Its always breaded really well and has a nice amount of crisp on it. Never fatty, which is definitely a plus, because there have been plenty of times where I’ve dined elsewhere and gotten 90% fat. We have tried the teriyaki chicken in the past, but weren’t big fans of it. Was rather dry. Most of the entrees come either as a bowl(which is usually just the entrée and rice) or a plate(which is the entrée, rice, and a little side salad). Prices on everything here is extremely reasonable! The chicken katsu bowl we usually get is only like $ 5.99! And the portions here are quite generous. My newest find is their tuna poke. It is THEBEST. I ordered it for the first time a few weeks ago and didn’t have real high expectations, but it was DELICIOUS! Large tuna chunks, marinated really well, sprinkled with a bit of spice, full of great flavor, mixed with avocado cubes, all sitting on a bed of greens — talk about YUMMM! I made a trip there in the late afternoon yesterday just because I was craving some of that tuna poke haha! They also have salmon poke but I have not tried it yet. Overall, Maui Chicken is my favorite little to-go spot for lunch. Cheap, tasty food, you can’t go wrong!
