I really have no idea what happened when the other reviewers visited. My friend and I came in around 12:30 on a Friday, were served immediately and were obscenely impressed. There aren’t a lot of old fashioned soda fountains in business these days, and this one has been around(under various owners) since 1948. My friend had her old fashioned strawberry milkshake served in an old fashioned glass *with* the silver cup with the extra that couldn’t fit. She loved it. I had their 2 scoop sundae and it was magnificent. Real Hot Fudge so thick that you needed to lick the spoon several times to get every last drop, creamy ice cream and thick and creamy whipped cream. All Topped off with nuts and a cherry… I was in heaven. It was humongous too. I’ve never seen the likes of a sundae so big and tasty. Pretty good price too. Everyone who came in after us was welcomed warmly and served promptly. They seemed happy and content as well. Three cheers for this old fashioned soda fountain and five stars from me. I’ll be back again.

Sorry charlie. Not impressed with the mediocre ice cream, insane price mark up for such a tiny milkshake(10 ounces of a vanilla milkshake for $ 7.50?). There were quite a few patrons in the shop and no discernible line, and the workers kept serving people that came in after us before us. They also did not know how to work their own cash register and kept making phone calls for help. Not a great experience.

Outstanding ice cream. And prices are very reasonable considering the large servings and variety of flavors. Kids loved it too. Definitely recommend.

I am sure the folks that are there are tired at the end of long day but don’t take it out on the customer. Also if you aren’t taking credit cards — tell the customer before they place the order! Having to use the ATM next door to get cash and pay a serve charge almost as much as the ice cream is annoying.

This little old fashioned soda shop was a stop for a treat while in a Truckee. It is located in downtown historic Truckee and is busy during peak times getting the tourist business. The shop itself was older and quaint and the ice cream was ok. The service was fine.(As a previous reviewer said we got the shake, in a modern cup no silver container with no extra, as we were out of towners) The prices are high and are targeted at tourists. The young ladies got the ice cream scooped and made but I don’t know how they do it in the hot conditions. The shop has a air conditioner that was not turned on during unseasonably warm temperatures and it was sweltering. Every customer commented and all but two ate outside as it was cooler outside than in! The sundaes, shakes, and ice cream sodas(no syrup though) were fine but nothing out if this world. They should have vintage glassware to match the ambiance. You pay for the soda shoppe experience.

Be extremely cautious spending your money at this place! They bate and switch here!!! One day you get a old style milkshake with the extra in the silver cup and the next day they charge you the same $ 5.25 for a milkshake in a plastic solo cup. I would highly recommend finding another place to spend your money. They take advantage of tourist!!! BEWARE!!!

This is a great stop in Truckee. My husband and sons love to split a milkshake here. The milkshakes are giant. They are an old-fashioned milkshake served up in a vintage milkshake glass. I am told they are fantastic. I try not to pay too much attention.;)

Who closes at 5:00 on a holiday weekend when there are people outside trying to get in!!! Craziest business decision ever! Sun is shining, people are knocking on the door and everyone inside, including customers are acting like they don’t hear us. Just flip the closed sign over! Sweets got our business, along with about 15 others. The staff there said it was a crazy busy day but they were still working it!

My kids love this place. It is really cute and it has an old town feel. The kids that work here are always really nice and helpful.

This place has been here as long as I can remember. Everything else was closed when we were looking for some dessert. Folks close up shop early in these parts I guess. We ordered a banana split for 2, and an ice cream sundae. They were decently good. Oddly I ate the marachino cherry, and it tasted old and bitter. Yuk. Then I had to wonder how old the ice cream was, but under all those toppings how can you tell anyway. This place is a great thing to have in town, but I really do feel it’s time for a little love. Everything from the flooring, booths, and equipment have really been run down now. I feel it needs some clean up and uplift. In my opinion… keep the them, but clean it up. It’s dingy.

I scream, you scream… I can’t think os a single person that doesn’t like ice cream. Hell, even lactose intolerant people like ice cream. Wheather you’re 1 or 100, you’ll dig on a cone of the cold stuff and what better place in Truckee then Buds. It’s got an old-town soda fountain feel to it and it’s the perfect thing while strolling through town on a nice summer day.
