Shorty’s

My girlfriend brought me here and I’m not a picky guy and do not do this often, but this was the worst restaurant experience I’ve had in a long time. I ordered the $ 5 fruit cup which was okay though it was tiny and had about 40 cents worth of fruit. The real problem was the home fries. I specifically asked if they had onions and they said they did. There were no onions in there and the home fries look like they were left over from 3 hours ago. I was able to eat about half of them and then just gave up. The other problem is that the gentleman who greeted at the door didn’t wash his hands when he went to the bathroom. I know this because when I went in he was coming out and the urinal was just flushed which only takes a couple seconds so he definitely didn’t wash his hands. And then the same guy is the one I had to give my money to and receive change from knowing that his hands we’re dirty. The waitress could have made sure that there onions in there and the home fries hadn’t been made fresh and even though the service was good and everyone was pleasant, I got old food without what I asked for and left with her dirty handful of change. I’ll definitely not go back there.

Stopped in tonight with my son for a quick bite. The Manhattan clam chowder is amazing! There are so many huge pieces of clam you cannot help but get a mouthful with every spoon. Also had the chicken quesadilla. Chicken was cooked perfect; cheese melted just right. Awesome! The owners are nice. They come by the table to see how we’re doing. All in all, breakfast, lunch or dinner is always a winner at Shorty’s!

Been here several times and the food has been excellent every time! The place is small and the waiters and waitresses are super attentive. I’ve only had breakfast here, but will be going back for dinner at some point. BBQ is said to be «on point.»

Usually go for their killer $ 3 breakfast, and decided to try lunch.
Went with 3 others + the food was so good we went back a few days later for dinner.
Ate everything from oysters to brisket, and it was all good.
One in the group said the scallops were the best she’s had in many, many years.
Nice atmosphere on the deck, and the service was great.
No charge for beverage refills.
I’ll be going back to try the burnt ends — I hear they’re really good.

Tried Shorty’s for the first time. Had their fried seafood platter and a bowl of beef barley soup. Both were very good.
The platter came with fries, tilapia, cod, clam strips and scallops. What can I say, I love fried food and this didn’t disappoint. Bread and a few veggies came with the meal too. Both were just so so.
I also had unsweetened ice tea which was excellent, I don’t know why but the flavor/​taste was really quit good.
The restaurant looks out over the Tuckerton Seaport Museum so there’s somewhat of a water view. I found the service to be good and the place very clean.
The bill was just over $ 25 which is very reasonable.

Seems Unilocal is bias as my last review which was in fine detail got removed.
To make it simple. Be very cautious about what you eat here. Smell it before tasting to be sure its not sour. My dish was. Enough said.

Ordered take out brisket burnt ends. Hostess was NOT helpful! Received cubed brisket, not sure if we received the wrong order or that’s what they serve as burnt ends. It was just average BBQ. Prob won’t return.

I have been a BBQ fanatic for 40 years and was seriously annoyed with the lack of good Q when I moved to NJ 27 years ago. I started cooking my own and even became a competition pitmaster several years ago and score in the top ten on a regular basis. But I still want to be able to go out and get a quick fix of smokey meat. Shortys is the first place I have found in NJ that is worth a second trip. They are using a great pit, good woods, great rubs and the right meats to really make it right.
The brisket was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The burnt ends were tender and moist and disappeared in a flash. Ribs and pork were moist and tasty. Sauce is served on the side and there are 3 choices all good.
When I was there they had a peanut butter chocolate bread pudding that was done perfectly.
I will definitely be back.

I’m not a huge BBQ fan but tried Shorties recently and was glad I did. Everyone tried something different and raved about their choices. I ordered brisket which was lean, tender and perfectly cooked. The soup and salad sides were delicious and the serving size was generous. Service was prompt and friendly and the atmosphere terrific. We came by boat and tied up in the seaport slips. It’s a great addition to the limited dock and dine options available in southern Ocean county. Oh, I guess you could drive a car there too!

Excellent… great clam strips so perfectly prepared, stuffed flounder with crabmeat was delicious… strawberry shortbrread pudding was the best dessert I’ve had in a long time! Great wait staff wonderful warm family atmosphere …

Amazing all these good reviews my husband and I went here for supper a few nights ago. We were the only people in the entire place. My husband said to me «This doesn’t look good». Well he was exactly right! I had a turkey platter he had a turkey
club. Awful. I don’t think it was real turkey. I had some gray looking mush under the turkey that I assume was suppose to be stuffing. Run away! I gave it one the waitress was real nice. I wouldn’t go back I didn’t even take the food home. Maybe breakfast is better!

This was my first time at Shorty’s. The smell is what brought me in! I went during the Tuckerton Christmas Market so I am not sure if the smoker on the patio is a normal thing but def brilliant! The men working the smoker were extremely friendly but I can’t say I felt the same inside, BUT it WAS a busy day. My daughter and I sat and were presented water and drinks almost immediately but that’s it! We sat for a good 10 mins, 5 mins after we had finished looking at the menu and sat it aside before I had to flag someone down for service! Although it was busy, it wasn’t a fast hustle and bustle busy, the atmosphere was very laid back. The waitresses were moving fast but not at rushed speed (as if to move people out) so to me it wasn’t like they were overwhelmed to excuse why I wasn’t waited on or even told «someone would be with you soon». We just sat and watched the diners and servers move at reg speed like we were onlookers and not patrons.
Shorty’s had a limited menu so I struggled finding something but it doesn’t mean there was something wrong with the menu, I just couldn’t find something. I settled on a burger… which I NEVER do and after a few bites, I skipped the bun and I felt like maybe I could have made a more daring choice. They had «shorty’s clams», which I def wanted to try because anything with the signature has to be good right… well they were, but NOTHING special. They could have been called clams and we still may have bought them… or not… we might have tried another app, so I felt a little mislead or disappointed by the assumption that they were going to taste different then any other steamed clams or have that old bay taste as promised and I got none of that.
The service was VERY disappointing and that would be my only bonified complaint. Our waitress never came to check on us. I had to go behind the counter and ask another waitress for boxes. The guy who seated us loaded our drinks with ice and I literally took the ice out of both of our drinks and they were half filled by then. I asked for a kids menu the guy who filled our drinks said there was none, our waitress said they had one but it wasn’t on the menu! I had no prices but I just wung it lol its a kids menu item… but we were offered no «special» choices and just no customer service. It was a good find for the day but I am not a repeat customer.

This is the second time I have eaten at Shorty’s. Not only is the food superb, but the waitstaff are helpful, likeable and accommodating. I had my elderly parents with me and they need smaller portions of the huge entrees that Shorty’s generally offers. Our waitress, Jennifer, helped us immensely with selecting the right menu items to choose that were smaller, not fried and not too filling. I work in a service industry so I know what it is to provide stellar service to my customers and Jennifer did just that. I would recommend Shorty’s to anyone looking for a fabulous, reasonably priced dinner. It will be my new go to place when I am visiting Tuckerton Seaport. Just don’t forget to byob.

OKAY… They’ve relaunched this place YET AGAIN under the guise of a BBQ place renamed Shorty’s.
We were very excited to go try it.
Well .there is a very limited amount of BBQ on this menu. Actually 1 BBQ item.
The literally use the same oversized overpriced menu as Scojo’s (There are actually items on menu called
Scojo’s salad-​etc.).
Extremely overpriced for its quality and area. Their breakfast fare is decent but they don’t serve breakfast all day. Competition-wise-I’m sure they do benefit from really weak area competition .So basically what we have here is diner food at premium prices that doesn’t even serve breakfast all day. Go to IHOP –at least they’re cheaper and you can get breakfast anytime!
They have a horrible fly infestation throughout the entire place. It’s quite disgusting actually.
Service is absolutely awful — with the exception of one young girl who was on point picking up the slack of her inept co-​workers throughout the whole floor.
The food is not terrible but overall this place is not worth your time. The menu is still wayy too big. And not a particularly inspiring experience. Generally lackluster.
The highlight was a very good Blueberry Iced Tea.
And they still don’t serve breakfast all day!

Great atmosphere as we sat outside on the porch during the «Truck“erton Food Festival.
The hostess was friendly, and so was our waiter, however, he didn’t ask us if we wanted anything to drink which I found a little odd. Once we requested water, he was very prompt about it.
The food was just average. My mom and I both got a bunless burger that comes with a Caesar salad. The burger was served with chopped tomato and lettuce. It was okay. The dressing on the salad was good.
I think the only time I would come back is if it was at the request of another, and if I could sit outside.

Went there for breakfast very busy but seated quickly. Food was very good service was quick. Prices are good for what you get. This place just opened but should do fine.

Great service and good food. Had food within 10 minutes and coffee in 3. Ate off breakfast menu. Eggs done to perfection. Great location.
