Delicious food and the staff was very warm and attentive! Cute, homey place near the beach. I definitely recommend the crab soup and pecan pie! The coleslaw is also very fresh and tasty. First time in Tybee Island, but if we ever make it back, we’ll be stopping here!

Great Steak & Seafood. The special Cajun Tortellini is yummy. Really enjoyed dinner here.

We decided on MacElwee’s for two reasons: the steamed oysters and it was in walking distance from our condo, due it being the first night of Piratefest and we weren’t sure how much parking would be available. Great food and service! The hostess greets everyone with«Hey y’all! How ya doing?», which I liked — made everyone smile… The oysters were awesome and the MacElwee’s Fried platter was enough for two! The seafood was lightly battered and perfectly cooked — not overcooked and greasy, as can be the tendency in many beach restaurants. We enjoyed our dinner and will definitely come here again!

Had the seafood platter and it was perfect. The lite breading complimented the taste of the seafood. Cooked perfectly. I have tried several of the restaurants in the area and found Macelwee’s to be the best. Service was excellent.

Dinner was OK – had the Mahi with baked potato. Small portion of Mahi, baked potato was good. Salad was romaine and iceberg with a couple of cherry tomatoes. Good service. Not sure if I’d return, prices were high for amount of food.

Excellent shrimp and crab legs cooked perfectly. Great serving sizes for the prices. Amazing cole slaw as well. Love the environment.

Had the Calamari for an appetizer. It was delicious except for the fact that the Marinara sauce came in a plastic Heinz packet. The best part of the meal was the Cajun seafood and three cheese tortellini. It had shrimp and scallops in a Cajun sauce with scallions and mushrooms. Delicious!!! The waitress was very attentive and kept my tea glass full. She did a great job. This was a great experience and have no problem with coming back and/or recommending this restaurant to anyone else.

Honestly, we almost didn’t go because of the reviews but it’s the best seafood we have had since we got here.

We have been coming to MacElwee’s since the day they opened. They have consistently been the best restaurant on the island for the 35 years we have been coming to Tybee. So many restaurants have come and gone but the great food that now owner Lynn(who was a server before) serves has kept this restaurant opened for so many years. Crab stew and legs are great. Service is great.

Great atmosphere but the food is okay. We ordered crab legs and I had fried shrimp. The crab legs were a bit over cooked and weren’t very meaty. The shrimp were good but lacked seasoning. The salads were fresh and awesome. The wait can be a little long and yes you do have to wait outside.

After having a terrible experience at AJ’S Dockside, the experience at Mac Elwees Seafood was wonderful. Large menu selection with reasonable prices and helpful and friend wait staff that is very attentive. Would recommend!

This place was okay. There is a wait and we felt rushed to eat. You have to wait outside before they will take you in to seat you. They didn’t have enough menus and no one told us specials for the day. The menu selection was just like all others in town the food was average nothing special about it

This restaurant was exactly what my friend and I needed after a long day at the beach. We had been walking to find a restaurant had just came from Marlin Monroe’s(we waited for seating when it was empty, had rude interactions with hosts, and once sat, waited ten minutes without ever meeting our server before we left). Anyway, the second we opened the door we were greeted and sat. Our server, Stephanie, was attentive and friendly without constantly coming to our table. We got calamari for our appetizer(good stuff, give it a try) and minutes after that our order came out. The food was good, I got the chicken fingers(really risky pick haha) and I liked that they weren’t the typical thickly breaded kind. My bff got some kind of steak served on top of rice and she enjoyed that as well as the calamari we split. Another positive note about this restaurant is that other servers took care of us too. When Stephanie was helping other guests the bartender and another server got us refills. Everyone here was friendly and welcoming, I hesitate to give it five stars because I was so annoyed with the experience at the restaurant before that my rating would be resulting from that.

I absolutely enjoyed my visit to this restaurant!!! The staff was great and the food even better! We ate the stuffed mushrooms and the seafood trio for appetizers. Then we ordered the crablegs and shrimp platter as an entrée. Best seafood I ever had! We shall return!

We thought the food was good. Loved my fried shrimp. Good beer selection. We got good service, but you have to wait outside for your table– no room inside. Friendly to families

This place is fantasic! The food was awesome. We got crab legs, steamed shrimp, fried flounder and a bunch of sides. The mixed drinks were yummy and went well with the meal. They even hooked us up with drinks to go. Our waitress was the best! She took group photos with us, made witty comments and was an overall happy person. The atmosphere was relaxed — just the kind of beach bum mood we were in. It was a local establishment that I will defiantly revisit!

I came here in the off season and was pretty impressed. I got the combo with steamed crab, shrimp and oysters; my wife had fried shrimp. The portion sizes were definitely generous and they were both cooked well with what I think is the correct flavor. HUGE shrimp! This is November so we had our choice of tables and service was very fast and friendly. Drink prices were fair. I’d say this is one of my favorite Tybee restaurants… better than Crab Shack or Sting Ray’s. Probably only second to Sundae’s. No clue what other reviewers are complaining about… maybe there was some summer craziness going on. Only reason it loses one star is because the food is a touch on the pricey side. Certainly not unreasonable for what you get but be prepared to spend $ 60 – 70 for two adults.

This place is always a last minute choice when everything else has an hour wait. The restaurant has changed hands many times and each time it loses a lot of its flavor-if you get what I mean. They used to serve an unbelievable low country boil in a deep pot that would let off so much steam people at the bar would turn around. Now, the low country boil is served on a shallow plate and everything is soggy. Soggy shrimp, watery potatoes and corn that spews water when you bite in to it. This is the only place on the island I tend to stick with their hamburgers and that isn’t a good thing when an ocean of fresh fish is 200 feet away. They have decent drink prices and mixed drinks start at $ 5 but they’re still not as strong as you can get from the other local restaurants.
