Its Taco Bell. Its close, fast, easy, and awful for you… just like any other Taco Bell.

I never get tired of Taco Bell! A bad taco at Taco Bell(which I’ve never had) is better than a good taco anywhere else. My only complaint is I wish they would come down in price to their worth of 99 cents.

Good Mexican food is hard to come by, and I’d been meaning to try this cozy little adobe restaurant on the corner for years, but never got around to it. Their slogan«make a run for the border» was catchy, and their neon sign lit up the dark sky like a welcoming beacon, so one evening when it was late and I was hungry, I finally stopped in. Boy, am I glad I did! The menu here is chock full of a variety of choices that promised an authentic south of the border dining experience. The selection was so vast, in fact, I was feeling overwhelmed, and asked my waiter for a recommendation. We could not bridge the language barrier, however, because it sounded like he said«whatever you feel like, ash roll.» I’ll have to brush up on my Spanish for my next visit. After much deliberation, I settled on a Doritos Locos taco with ground beef, and a pair of steak Chalupas. The taco was delicious, the tortilla satisfyingly crunchy, with a unique blend of orange-tinted spices and herbs that tasted vaguely familiar, though I couldn’t quite place the flavor. The ground beef — I’m pretty sure it was USDA Prime Choice — was browned with a nice char, and seasoned to perfection. My taco came with julienned strips of iceberg lettuce, fresh diced juicy red tomatoes, a dollop of sour cream, and shredded, aged cheddar. The homemade salsa was served in a convenient little packet in which you tear off a corner and squeeze onto your food. This is both fun, and allows for excellent portion control. Not a drop of the fiery hot sauce went to waste. Like the taco itself, the flavors sang to me! At that point I was afraid the rest of my meal might pale in comparison, but there was no need to worry. The chalupas were every bit as divine. The chalupa shell managed to pull off the feat of being both crispy and chewy at once, testament to the chef’s cooking prowess and knowledge of fine Mexican cuisine. It came with thick strips of marinated premium-quality steak — if I had to guess, I’d say it was Kobe beef — grilled to medium-rare perfection. The accompanying vegetables were every bit as fresh and tasty as those that were served with my taco. I washed down my meal with a golden, carbonated beverage that I believe is native to the Jalisco region of Mexico. Locals refer to it as «dew from the mountains,» though I cannot recall its actual name.(Ask your server next time, but remember to brush up on your Espanol first)! The dessert specials looked enticing, especially the twisted Mexican doughnut(similar to a cruller) dusted in a sweet sugar and cinnamon blend and served piping hot, but I was too full to contemplate ordering anything else. Which simply gives me the perfect excuse to return here for another wonderful meal! They say it is the little hole-in-the-wall restaurants that surprise and impress the most, and my experience at Taco Bell proves this to be true. I’m only disappointed that it took me so long to discover this hidden gem! I highly recommend it to anybody craving an exotic, wonderfully prepared multi-course Mexican meal. It’s muy bueno!

Ya, this is a Taco Bell but it is one of the better ones I’ve been to. They don’t simply give you a number but also your name then call it out when meal is up. Try using an obscure name or of a past President, it will make people look. The staff is always polite and the service is fast. Food is always served hot. Best of all the restaurant is always extremely clean. I’ve stopped here a few times after hanging with friends in Vancouver. Nice that is always open late. I’ll admit it is a Taco Bell and basic Americana-Mexicana fast food but it is always a safe bet when you don’t know the area. For the quality of Taco Bell food it is actually pretty good. Believe it or not, I have had some bad Taco Bell food before. Not all stores are created equal and this one happens to better than the rest.
