Sayaka is the sweetest, most warmest restaurant owner alive. She will greet you and make you feel so welcomed the moment you set foot into the restaurant. The sushi here is tasty and the hot soup tempura udon/soba noodles will warm your heart. Guaranteed!

I like the squid much! The whole setting is attractive for great atmosphere. Before coming I did not think it such a good service here is. I got here a different test of life, I will be coming. The cost does not matter but they are not wrong with price.

I chose this place because it was close to the Hawthorn AMC theatre. I also saw it had a good four star rating. I think that was a bit generous. The service was friendly and prompt. It is a small strip mall restaurant with no frills. It is a «you get what you pay for» type of restaurant. We got three sushi rolls and a miso soup for less than $ 20. It was a cheap dinner. But the rolls were small and the fish was not very fresh. The tuna in the Boston Roll was a bit tough. The salmon in the Philly Roll was fully(and over) cooked. I prefer to have raw salmon in my Philly Roll. I was disappointed since my friend who met me here was trying raw sushi for her first time. I fell like it left her with a bad first impression. The Chicago rolls was pretty good though. Overall just a mediocre sushi restaurant that is better suited for carry out.

Saw that this place had 4.5 stars and decided to give it a try, I had high hope, which probably was a bad thing. However I was hesitant as there were only 23 reviews available. Ordered the Maki C, which includedd 1 tuna roll, 1 california roll and 1 shrimp tempura roll. It came with miso soup. ALl for $ 13. It was just bad. The tuna was BROWN, it had nearly gone bad. The rice was all flaking out and dry. The miso soup probably cost 5 cents to make, nothing great. california roll lacked flavor, shrimp tempura roll, let’s just say it was one of the worst shrimp tempura roll i’ve had, very little shrimp in it. And it only had 5 pieces instead of 6. I was there at around 6pm and NO A SOUL was in the restaurant, when I first walked in I was asked if it was just by myself, well heck no I am not sitting down in this ghost place, it would have been incredibly awkward, I mean it was VERY small and quiet in there… Even the husband and wife werent talking, if the person working the register was the wife and the person making the sushi was the husband that is. The only reason this place is not 1 star is because the couple was fairly nice and the place for what it’s worth, not fancy but tastefully and cutely decorated. I have fully given up on trying to find a good ethnic or foodie place in vernon hills/lincolnshire/buffalo grove/long grove/libertyville. If you want anything food at least venture out to schamburg or arlington heights/palatine.

Sushi Kamon. on a cold night when I was craving a bit of hot Japanese Tea, Miso Soup. and a bit of(Wild Caught, — of course, for me) Fish, as a post — work-out Pescatarian craving for this mostly Vegetarian. My Partner and I ordered what you can see, plus an order of Vegetable Fried Rice(they did not fry in soybean Oil, and did not include an Egg — per my special Nutritionista request). The Mexicana Roll included extra jalapeños(we’re Latino, — and love the spicy!) — delicious! Miso soup, too!. I’ve eaten Japanese and Sushi for years, and have been to more authentic, upscale, well appointed.- but honestly: for the price, convenience to my Libertyville house, and really delightful customer-service — I am pleased. And will be back. I’d like to expound on the little Lady who greets, serves(& chats) — she is the Proprietor. — 4 th owner of this 30+ year restaurant(for the last 1 — 2 years, only). I like her.- and how she seems to connect with people. My Parents were restaurateurs, — and I still like the small business personal connection. I wish her, and her business well. :-)

Been here once for dinner and once for lunch. I really like this place. There are a few options in the area for decent sushi but what can I say, I prefer the«hole-in-the-wall» type atmosphere. The older woman who served us twice was somewhat quiet, but very sweet. The specialty rolls and salad I had for dinner were excellent. Props to the sushi chef! I had the shrimp tempura bento for lunch, and tried to be sneaky and ask for a substitution on my roll(spicy tuna instead of california, both of which were listed with different bentos). The server did call me out by pointing to the«no substitutions» note, and that was fair. But she did ask the sushi chef and came back to tell me he would give me the spicy tuna. Everything seems very fresh and tasty. I definitely will come back!

Not a great experience. The waitress acted annoyed with my requests and did not acknowledge my request with any reply. I expect some courtesy and a reply when you speak to anyone whether they are a server, owner, manager, etc. no excuse for bad service. And the hamachi Kama was under cooked. I’ve never had it that way here in the states.

Nondescript, unassuming, and out of this world! Volcano roll was excellent. Great miso soup. Will definitely be back here to order the«Des Plaines River Special.» I gave four stars instead of five because of a lack of alcoholic beverages. Would’ve loved some sake with my sushi!

This is the most authentic, fresh sushi I have found in the area. After living in Japan and Hawaii, I know what good sushi tastes like. I would compare the quality and technique to sushi from higher-end sushi bars. The price is on point considering distance and product. I’m shocked that it’s not packed every night even though I drive a little further down the road and find tons of people at fusion restaurants with crap sushi. They don’t do gaming, they don’t have Thai or Chinese or Vietnamese or even ramen. They have sushi. Perfect, amazingly delicious sushi! I recommend the volcano roll and spicy tuna.

Awesome fresh sushi that looks as good as it tastes. The service is also wonderful! I highly recommend the Volcano roll, edema, spot stickers, and chicken teriyaki(my 7 yr old loved it)! The hours are a little different, but all the food is made fresh, so it takes time to prep and is well with the scheduling. ;)

This is THEBEST sushi spot in chicago! Coming from LA where you can find great sushi everywhere I have been looking and looking for a place that matches if not tops something like what I had there. This place is just as good if not better! Really inexpensive for the good quality! The chef(Steven) is awesome and the lady who works there was very very nice ! It’s a great little sushi restaurant. We r so so happy we live so close and can’t believe we just discovered it! Highly highly recommend:)

Just fantastic. Very, very friendly — total mom and pop feel. The shrimp dumplings were divine! Sushi was excellent! And a teeny bowl of green tea ice cream accompanied the bill. Love it, I will be back!

Avg at best; which would explain why the dining room was virtually empty on Sat night. Actually we were the only diners, until an older couple showed up around 7:30. While the hostesses was pleasant, there was nothing about the food that stood out. My sashimi had a total of 7 tiny slices of fish. Rolls priced @ $ 13+ lacked any flavor, but at least were not covered with a gallon of sauce as several places starting doing. I have also eaten once when the space was occupied by the previous tenant. Again, appears not much has changed, but the menu seems a bit larger. Location is poor and sushi is uninspiring, don’t see us coming back here.

I try to keep away from the suburbs, but I happened upon this gem early on a Thursday afternoon, when I was out there for work. Cozy, cute little place. The sushi is good, though nothing special. The woman who served us(seemed like the mom of what looked like a mom & pop shop?) was as sweet as can be, and even offered some tasty green tea ice cream with chocolate sauce – AFTER we paid the bill(i.e., for free). It was a tasty finish to a tasty meal.

Great place for fresh, tastey sushi! Prices are very reasonable for the quality of product! Best part, the owner/waitress is very friendly and treated us like we were family and even took the time to learn our names and to make sure we had hers as well! We have been here twice now, and can foresee us being repeat customers. We have been to Sushi Kushi, Sushi Joon and a couple others and would rank this place #1 by FAR! If you are in the area looking for a great meal, go here! EDIT: Since I posted this they got a new sushi chef… Sushi Steve is a great asset and a cool dude. So sit at the sushi bar and enjoy the show!

What we ordered: chicken katsu, Meixcana roll & spicy tuna roll Total bill: $ 26.10 The good: The fish tasted fresh; it was very soft and melt in your mouth. All of the ingredients in the Mexicana roll were fresh and crispy(cilantro, jalapeño) and the rice was perfectly cooked — not too sticky or too dry. The sad: The miso soup was bland and bitter for my taste. The rice was cooked perfectly but wasn’t flavored with the traditional sweet/sour flavor I’m used to from sushi rice. The salad dressing looked really unappetizing. The chicken katsu was thick, tough and also kind of bland. Overall, I was really disappointed in my experience. I might give it another try because it got such good reviews but I am unlikely to go back. The service was ok– we weren’t greeted with the same enthusiasm that is described in the other reviews.

There’s something special about the offerings at Sushi Kamon. My love for japanese food and great positive reviews here on Unilocal!led me here. Completely unassuming in a strip mall on the south side of 60 just east of 21, it’s easy to miss. The interior is old-school sushi restaurant complete with Hakata dolls, origami mobile and a litter of beckoning cats behind the bar. The restaurant is narrow and the furniture is spartan. The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming. She waits tables and he prepares the sushi. As for the food, that’s where it shines. Everything from the miso soup to the delicately vinegared sushi rice is just a notch above other local places. We tried a sashimi bowl, chirashi, and a unagi-ju donburi, barbecued eel box. Both were amazingly delicate and delicious. This is the kind of step up you generally pay a lot more for at higher end sushi restaurants. I also tried a spicy tuna roll which wasn’t as spicy as the menu implied, but nevertheless had complex flavors and a delicious crunch. It’s still a decent deal, but I’d say that prices reflect the higher quality. My only wish was that the pickled ginger and wasabi quality matched the rest of the meal. Our server was so sweet, it was a pleasure to eat here. I will definitely be back.
