Hands down five stars. Visiting here from Virginia, we come to this delightful place hidden in a posh town center in Wakefield, RI twice a year. Each time we come we are pleasantly surprised. The service is in the stratosphere, our drinks never go empty even though all we drank was water. We ordered the hibachi chicken and beef dish which both comes with a salad, rice and a shrimp appetizer and soup. The surprising thing is that me being the carb conscious eater, I asked for no rice and without missing a beat the waitress asked if I’d like to substitute it for a larger salad, ding! The small things make a big difference to me… My wife ordered a 6 roll salmon sushi, which I cheated and had one, it was fantastic; not fishy and the right texture. The main dishes that we shared were cooked to perfection, the sauce was delightful and tangy and had the right amount of twang to give it a bit of heat. The best part of the meal is that it was delivered in 10 minutes and the waitress didn’t bug us every five minutes. The atmosphere is quiet on the left side of the restaurant, but if you want the hibachi action, there is plenty of it on the right. We took a peak on our way out and it appeared the customers were having a great time. Overall, this is a nice little joint that we will keep coming back to twice a year when we visit, I highly recommend you give them a try.

Started out to have dinner at trattoria ramona. 2 hour wait so plan B Shogun Japanese steakhouse. Have been more than once never had a bad meal. Tonight we got told 30 minute wait. OK we will be at the bar. About 90 minutes later I check they forgot us. No big deal we enjoyed talking to our bartender Mollie what a pleasure. We got seated at the hibachi next to two young women from Iran one finished her degree at URI and is an environmental researcher, the other has only been here 2 months and is in school and studying flood Plains. Great meeting them nice conversation and great to share a nice meal with. Amazing young ladies .And our dinner, steak and scallops as always perfect.

I have to give this place 1 star. I’m local and I’ve eaten here many times. I haven’t been in a while, and I decided to take a colleague here, since he was staying at the Hampton Inn. The drinks were horrible and way over-priced. The sushi was ok. And we got the hibachi meals in the bar area. The«vegetables» in mine were pretty much all onions. Never going back. As one reviewer said, a place is only as good as the last experience. Besides, it was completely empty. So it looks like we’re not the only ones who have had a bad experience.

Good service. Tasty food. Fun experience. Accommodates dietary restrictions. Hibachi chefs really engage the guests in dinner.

My relationship with Shogun is a complicated one. If I was solely rating the food on an average of all the times my lovers and I went here, it would probably be a 4⁄5. However a restaurant is only as good as its last performance. The last time I went to Shogun, I had made a reservation because it was a holiday that was sure to bring a lot of men, women and children out to the delicacies of this Japanese store. However guess what? My party and I had to wait over an HOUREVENTHOUGHWEHAD A RESERVATION. Which leads me to believe Shogun can make the reservation but not HOLD the reservation. This instance alone has brought my review to 2 stars because it is simply unacceptable. Their goof food has been karate chopped by this terrible experience.

Huge portions, delicious food! Arrive hungry! Pricey but well worth it based on the amount of food, you’ll most likely have a lot of left overs! order the garlic noodles… So good! If you go with a large party and split the check the tip is most likely included so double check! Enjoy!

This place is a fun option for hibachi. I would waver between a 3 and 4, because the food can vary based on which cook you get. I’ll go with 4, because my most recent meal was with Tony, who never fails to make me laugh and deliver the best food. He knows just how long to cook everything so it comes to my plate hot and excellent. My husband, a chef, says Tony nails the seasoning and I agree. The cocktails are good, though sometimes too sweet and sticky, rather than refreshing. The garlic noodles are usually a good bet, though not everyone cooks them well. The steak and shrimp are a good bet.

I ordered the hibachi chicken. All dinners are served with hibachi shrimp appetizer, house soup, garden fresh salad, hibachi vegetables and white rice. The shrimp was meh. The soup was salty. The salad dressing was salty. The chicken and vegetables were salty. It was gross. I had to go out and get something else to eat. I love flavor and salt, but this was just too much.

I like the hibachi part. I really also enjoy the sushi they have there. They also make great drinks. There are many different experiences you can have which I love about the place.

My friend and I went for hibachi and it was sub par. Barely any«show» and our chef criticized us all for not being excited, 5 seconds after meeting us. Our chef went on to say that he was tired, bored and ready to start drinking. The hibachi comes with white rice but they should make that clearer bc in the beginning, chef asked if we wanted fried rice or garlic noodles? We choose fried rice and a lot of rice was wasted. Chef put the meat on the grill first, before any veggies, and therefore our chicken was dry. I’ve never been to hibachi before but my friend said a lot of places do more tricks, squirt sake and slice cucumbers mid air! I think I’ll look for one of those next time bc shogun was not worth re visiting.

The food at Shoguns is good enough to make it a return spot when I want Japanese style food, but only to an extent. The service is good, staff is nice, and it is open late enough to come by for a late dinner and a drink. I live in the apartments that are a minute walk away, which is nice. The biggest problem with the place is the variety of the food. The food caters to the, I am not willing to try much else boring crowd, too much. They had a good idea with teppanyaki. No where close does that style of food, but teppanyaki caters to people who usually aren’t willing to try much else. There is a lack of anything on the menu that has to do with noodles. Noodles are something that is taken very seriously in Japan, among other foods and there is one noodle dish on the menu. They don’t even have a basic bowl of ramen or udon. Once you have eaten here once you will have exhausted your options of choices, but the food is good enough to come back. I will return because the food is decent and really close to my house, but if someone at the restaurant reads this please add something different to the menu.

I love this place! The staff is always very kind and accommodating. I usually order the hibachi chicken, which is delicious. My husband loves their sushi. And their salad dressing is wonderful! Nice, fun environment. My daughter is 9 and loves it too! Close to the theater, which is convenient.

Just moved here from Virginia and was trying to find a good sushi spot. Luckily we found this place! Sashimi is cold fresh and sweet and every roll we have tried has been delicious. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. Prices are comparable. Found our new home for sushi!

Awful! We had a cook that used so much soy sauce the food was barely edible! I mean it really should not have been eaten. My son woke up the next morning with a swollen face, eyes and neck, he had gained three pounds in water weight from the retention of the water in his body due to the excessive salt! I only had a few bites of my food as I wasn’t feeling that great but did bring it home and try it the next day and it was completely inedible. The salt content nearly shriveled my tongue as soon as I put it in my mouth. It actually burned my mouth and I spit it out. I also ordered a fillet and a thin piece of meat that looked like the steak everyone else ordered but maybe a 1⁄8 inch thicker was used. I was confused so I asked where the fillet was and I was told that was my fillet. As far as I know when your order a fillet it’s a thick medallion of meat, not here. If they want to substitute with some other type of fillet they should note the type on the menu, not doing that is deceiving. The non-fillet isn’t the issues here, it’s the fact that the salt content was nearly dangerous for a small child. If I would have actually tasted the food there is no way I would have allowed him eat it. He was swollen for three days; it took three full days to drop the three pounds in water he retained from this food! So scary. Salt can be very dangerous for children in high amounts, as was contained in this food. They serious need to fire and rehire chefs.

I thought the food was great! I loved the salad and the miso soup was the best ever. I had the hibachi scallop dinner. It was so delicious. My date was not impressed but hes not into this type of food. The only thing was when we walked in we asked the hostess for a table and she told us there wasnt any high top tables clean. So I suggested maybe she clean one. Not sure if she thought we were going to lol

OHHAPPYDAY!!! Are the first words you should say when your waitress asks what you will be having. It is sushi wrapped in rice paper filled with thick cut salmon, avocado, cucumber, and some delicious sauce. It is by far the best thing on the menu. This roll beat out my old fave, the spider crab with tobuki. Man I can’t stop thinking about it. Lol I don’t throw around the 5 star around but that was the best roll I had in a while. Now I can understand some of the low reviews sue to the hibachi portion of the establishment and the price. It is your average food. Great show but decent food. The sushi is the better option with great portions. If you are in the area you have to try it.

It’s definitely not trendy or upscale, just kind of your bare bones hibachi and sushi restaurant. It’s also the only one in the south county area. For what it is, it tends to be a little pricey since it does NOT have that high end atmosphere(there really isn’t much for décor here). The hibachi is good, and you’re always entertained while the chefs are preparing your meal. For it not being over the top, I’d definitely say they run the place very well. It is very consistent, and they do a good job of not making people wait forever for their table to be ready. My favorite part is probably the rice, it is just so good! I’ve also noticed that in the winter months, they’re also very popular for takeout.

My boyfriend and I have been a number of times — both for eat-in and for take-out — for sushi. There are always sushi specials — but overall, the sushi options are classic and simple. It is consistently fresh and delicious, so I love it. Last night we had spicy scallop roll, eel nigri, spicy tekka maki, and a Warwick roll(salmon). Service is friendly and also consistent. You are greeted at the door and have the option of sushi bar, high tops in the bar area or regular times — then there’s the habachi room.(I have not been for hibachi.). Overall, a consistently good place to get sushi.
