I give this even one less star because I went back on my word and tried Tackle Box again. It was even worse than the first time I tried their fish tacos. Do yourself a HUGE favor: go to Luke’s Lobster in Georgetown(about a block away) instead: real seafood that’s fresh, even though it’s more expensive.

Had the fried oysters with hush puppies and Mac and cheese. Everything was pretty Meh except for the Mac and cheese which was downright Bleh. Wouldn’t pay $ 17 on it again.

This place was a little on the expensive side for lunch(close to $ 50!) but it was pretty good. I got the crab cake sandwich with fries and the hubs ordered a combo type plate which came with blue fish, broccoli and mac n cheese. The fish was quite flavorful. The sides were OK, including the hush puppies we shared. Ambiance is casual. Very friendly guy serving.

Wanna eat some decent seafood without sitting in a fancy schmancy restaurant awaiting your order to arrive? If so, Tackle Box is a great option. I really liked the meal combos they have with two veggie sides and a fish for around ~$ 15. You can get a diversified meal, I tried to grilled calamari, broccoli, fish tacos, that were all good. I look forward to going back to trying their other selection. The place is more divey, and very dark, casual – picnic tables used for communal seating. But great to pick up a quick easy seafood meal. Pay attention to their specials of the day on the chalkboard. They have good deals!

Fish tacos !!! Lobster roll! I was in Washington visiting family for 5 days… Though expensive, I really enjoyed the lobster roll. However, I absolutely had to go to Tackle Box for the fish tacos a second time. YUM. Seriously good. Best part of Georgetown ;)

The positives: the food was delicious! Fish tacos, grilled broccoli, calamari, sweet potato fries, were all pretty much perfection. I’m still thinking about the smokiness of the broccoli… Ahhhhhh… the music was good, and there is a tv for those that can’t break away from a game. But, televisions do not dominate, thankfully! The negatives: it’s a bit pricey, it’s a little dark, has mostly communal seating, unless you sit on the stools at the window. It’s definitely a casual eating joint. However, eat here, you should. I will return!

We ate here as a group. Everything was okay, but ultimately I’m left feeling that I wouldn’t return and I wouldn’t really recommend it. It’s a fine meal, and a fine price given the area… there’s just SUCH good food in DC that I wouldn’t think to recommend this place specifically. I should give a disclaimer here that none of us eats shellfish… so the lobster, the shrimp, all of that… that was off the table. That left us with very few options(e.g., fish sandwich, fried fish).

Tackle box has a lot of promise but it never truly impresses. You order and wait for your number to be called, which makes the place feel really casual except that some of the dishes are actually quite pricey. I’ve had the fish tacos lunch special and they were tasty — but mostly because of the sauces(very generous with sauce) and less because of the actual fish. For the Wednesday taco special, the fish is tilapia. Nothing special here. Sweet potato fries are made fresh and are a solid side option. Happy hour used to have more punch but now is pretty basic with the exception of $ 3 calamari. When I came, I thought the batter could have used more seasoning. So overall, not a bad spot for a bite, but I can understand the disappointment if I had ordered some of the more expensive dishes.

Nice location on M street but it’s pretty small inside and the food is obviously overpriced. I discovered this location on Unilocal and decided to at least give it a try the next time I was in Georgetown DC. I ordered the lobster roll with sweet potato French fries. The lobster was slapped on top of a potato bread and the fries were simply ok. I had roughly two scoops of lobster mix and an overwhelming amount of bread to bite through. In total my meal can up at $ 27.00 for that including a fountain drink. Not something I would deem worth the money.

This place is way too overpriced. The food here is good but nothing great. I got a shrimp basket with sweet potato fries and mac & cheese. Although the shrimp were good, they were tiny and the meal only comes with a relatively small amount given their size. They were more like popcorn shrimp(and in fact, were comparable in my opinion both in size and quality to the popcorn shrimp you would get at Popeyes). The grilled portobello and sweet potato fries stood out the most from the meal(so if you are going to eat here, definitely get a side of them). But, the mac & cheese was slightly below-average so you may want to pass on getting it. I would eat here again because it is quick and I love fried shrimp, but it is definitely overpriced!

This place is casual. You have to grab your own seating. Saturday dinner time was not ideal for this type of seating. I saw a group of 4 people take up a table for 8 by placing their bags everywhere and no one said anything. People were scrunched up together at tables. I had cod and two sides. It was a good meal but it did not hit it out of the ball park for me. I saw so many rave reviews, maybe i expected more. The sauces were mediocre. I don’t have much to say about the food, because it wasn’t that great. If i am in the area, maybe i’d come back.

Great seafood spot in Georgetown! You just order with the cashier and sit down and wait for your food. Interior is bench seating, so it’s definitely great for big groups! Had the trout with asparagus and portabella. Trout was perfectly seasoned and grilled, asparagus was fresh and portabella literally melted in my mouth– you could even taste that it was grilled! It also came with this green chili sauce… yum! We told the server it was our first time dining and he brought out Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes… yum! Definitely planning on going back!

So so impress with his seafood spot, very reasonable price for such a tasty meal. The food is freshly hot from the grill and the wait is not long at all. The cashier was very helpful with what to order. Place is very clean and in order. There’s plenty of picnic like tables to sit as you enjoy your food. In my opinion their grilled food is way tastier than most overpriced seafood restro. My boyfriend and I love this place and we’re so glad we found it. Be advice that When you look inside you will think” oh it’s just one of those fast food places” I’ll say looks can be deceiving because the food is so good I would think the price should me more. This particular order we have is a meal w 3 sides of your choice with a extra side order for $ 23.00. Def worth it! We are happy and we’ll def return for more…

I am from the Pacific Northwest and am a lover of seafood. This place is good. The food was fresh and I thought the sides(Mac and cheese, hush puppies) were especially good! I will say that they have good prices for a meal. Only about $ 15 for your fish of choice and two sides. Not bad at all! However if your choice dish is a lobster roll like me, get it somewhere else. I paid $ 22 for it and it had the least amount of lobster in it of any roll I’ve ever eaten. Was also kind of bland. Was it bad? No. But was it worth $ 22? No. Overall I would recommend this place! But get the tackle box meal not the lobster roll :) their fish is really good. My husband had the fried catfish and loved it.

While on our Saturday Georgetown outing, we became quite hungry. I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while, so I was delighted when Unilocal said it was a quarter of a mile away from the waterfront. Upon walking in, we were immediately greeted with a warm and welcome hello! The service here was top notch on our visit. The young man at the counter was genuinely friendly, and knowledgable about the menu. And that sweet tea was actually sweet! We ordered clam strips with hush puppies as my side, and a sweet tea for me(I’m such a kid), and oysters and a cheap beer for him. Our total was close to $ 30. I’m not expecting Captain D’s prices by any means(do they even have that up north or is that simply a southern thang), but it found it pretty expensive for quick seafood. Oh, it’s supposed to be fresh? My clam strips were chewy and taste dirty. Yuck! I felt like I was chewing dirt on and on and on. No thanks! The jalapeño hush puppies were okay, but nothing to brag home about. On the other hand, the hubs loved his oysters! He was slurping those things down in a New York minute! So, I guess stick with the oysters!

yummy Yummy yummy!!! Crab cake sandwich was just everything. I loved it, it was fresh and light. Also loved the sangria they have, and the ambiance. I wish there was maybe more seating and not a table right in front of the door which got a little cold. Adorable décor, great location, and yummy. Great place for lunch with friends, and they have groupons usually.

Wow, I’m reading the recent reviews and man are they harsh! I think there are some definite haters here that don’t realize what terrible reviews can do a decent establishment! I wonder if we’re talking about the same place. After being away from the DC area for years I came back for a visit and one of the first things on my mind — Po’ boy sandwich. This sandwich is heavenly. Let’s start with the bun. That warm buttered bun. The bun alone makes my mouth water. The sides are buttered and grilled to a perfect crisp, while leaving the main part nice and soft. The sandwich is lathered with the tartar sauce and then piled deep with fresh fried crispy oysters. I get the tartar sauce and start my tradition eating the excess piled oysters from the top one by one, and after a few, I take a big bite of the sandwich as it’s meant to be. I like the sweet potato fries or the french fries as a side. The regular fries have Old Bay seasoning, which gives it a good spice.(I’d pass on the hush puppies and mac and cheese.) I can’t speak of all the other menu items recently as I really can’t veer away from this po’ boy fried oyster sandwich. It’s so freakin good, we came back here as many times as we could before leaving town again. All my stars go to this sandwich.

Came with a GroupOn on two visits. I would definitely return because they’re catfish, alothough cut New england style(which I abhor with full resentment) was battered well in a corn meal seasoned well batter. Comes with what we think is a hybrid tartar sauce + ranch or something — I don’t know. But the Lobster roll is higher priced than places in Manhattan. Mom’s sweet potato fries were tasty. The kitchen cooked for us on our first visit even though they started putting things away for the night. In Georgetown so it’s picturesque. 4 stars for taste 3 stars for décor 4 stars for value I can’t remember what I didn’t exactly like and I think it was the other reviews scarying me a bit but we had a decent visit each time and I recommended this place to the BFF in the area. 1 — lobster roll 1 — catfish basket with sweet potato fries extra for drink 1 — kids cheeseburger meal with fries and drink included My return visit led to me getting the catfish as it tasted well. I would mos def go for the DININGSPECIALS as the pot price is a deal based on comparison. Park at a meter and run in. They treated us well for DST Centennial Convention.

The past reviews of this place are so various and I wonder why. As for my first experience tonight, I liked everything I had except for the clam-less clam chowder.(With this, I got totally ripped off paying $ 6.60) The Grilled Atlantic Cod was grilled perfectly and tasty. So was the side broccoli. The Grilled Blue Fish was properly seasoned with salt and tastes heavenly. The Fried Oysters Sandwich was not bad but not great either. Maybe I am spoiled by those PoBoys from HOB and PDOP. Despite the Friday evening, we were able to grab a small table without waiting. And very importantly, I could use my Groupon coupon before the expiration. I would come back here even without a coupon to try more other stuff in the near future.

A-OK for Georgetown, however I probably wouldn’t come back without a Groupon if you’re planning on getting the lobster roll. Came here with a friend to redeem a Groupon I’ve had sitting for a while. I will have to say I was a bit let down by the glowing Unilocal reviews about the lobster roll. Although the lobster roll itself was good, as compared to Hanks I felt like Tacklebox skimps on the lobster. Although at $ 21 you also do get a side of sweet potato fries, which are quite good. Luke’s Lobster has a better roll. My friend had the cod with some grilled zuchinni and a portabello mushroom. I got to sample some of her food and I would most likely come back for the grilled fish! The cod was fresh and grilled perfectly. The sides were also good as well. Luckily for us, we came during happy hour and were able to get a order of a dozen oysters for a $ 1 each. Fresh and delicious. Overall, as a dining option in Georgetown, Tacklebox would probably be the most affordable overall. The happy hour here is also great, although we didn’t try their cocktails. The lobster roll was a bit disappointing because so highly raved about on Unilocal. If in the area, definitely check it out. Otherwise I wouldn’t make the trip out with other options in DC such as Hanks or Luke’s Lobster.
