This is our go to location for sushi. We eat here pretty much every week. Good sushi at a reasonable price. Great location next to the movie theater. Staff is super personable and remembers us by name. Highly recommend as a casual sushi destination.

Pleasantly surprised. Will be our go to for dinner with the kids in tow before a movie. Sunday lunch was great with the bento boxes.

First off all let me say that Tokyo 101 is my boyfriend and my favorite sushi restaurant to go to in town the food is always consistent and delicious and I hate that I had to give 3 stars but the service the past couple times we have been in has been awful to say the very least. The last couple times we’ve been in we have had the same server and the first time we had him we figured maybe he was having an off day… But each time he serves us we are baffled at the lack of progress he makes in being of adequate service. I rarely write bad reviews but this one couldn’t go unsaid as we were left with two empty cups of water for over 5−8minutes and once we had finished our food we were left with our empty plates sitting in front of us with out being checked on or asked if we needed the bill for a good 10mins. Mind you at the time of our visit our table and one other table were the only customers inside with one party sitting out at the patio. While I grew impatient waiting for our bill or for at the very least our server to approach our table I watched in horror as he walked by eyes glued to his phone tapping on the screen of his phone in a manner that looked like he was playing a video game. Absolutely unacceptable. And the worst part is I still tipped a fair 20% because I simply can not not tip well. Please get your service together, please. We don’t want to stop coming into Tokyo because we love it but the service we had today was just unacceptable.

I wasn’t impressed. They are located in Mayfair maybe that’s why I was expecting a better experience than the strip mall variety. Well I was disappointed(give me my strip mall) I had the spicy tuna roll and some specialty roll. I literally spit my food up because there was a slimy texture trying to slide down my throat yuck. Just put it like this I was upset that I wasted my money.

Me and my boyfriend always get the same thing when we go to Japanese restaurants and that’s Hibachi Chicken. We’ve been to Tokyo 101 quite a lot now and rather than Miyabis at the beach I believe out of all the places we’ve been they have the best yum yum sauce. The chicken is always well flavored and service is always immediate and kind. Last time we went, this past Saturday. We both noticed mutually that serving sizes had been cut down. We had a long wait and nearly missed out movie. But staff was incredibly nice and kept us informed that the kitchen was backed up. While the serving sizes were smaller the rice was still also the best rather than Miyabis. I love the restaurant itself as well. Very cozy and relaxing. Bathrooms are always clean and well stocked. A really pleasant experience from start to finish every time for me.

Tokyo 101 has many different qualities that make it an awesome joint! First is the service, it is like no other in the area. You are often seated immediately, with a very attentive wait staff who are constantly concerned about your experience and the quality of the food. Next is the food itself. I recommend the very well-priced bento box, which offers many different combinations. Last is the atmosphere; by far the cleanest sushi restaurant in town. You could eat off the floor. I have yet to find a water spot on a glass at Tokyo. Go and eat at this excellent restaurant!

We went here for dinner and normally the food and service are awesome! This time… Not so much. It took over 30 mins for someone to come just to get out drink order. My salad and soup was not brought out(I had to flag the server down to find out where it was) and to top it off, there was a roach in the rice. The response from management was«I can wrap it up and you can take it home, or I can not wrap it up» to me, this was a little ridiculous. I doubt I will ever be eating here again since finding a bug(a roach no less) is pretty disgusting. I would give it zero stars if possible. Don’t eat here unless you like to eat bugs.

Tokyo 101 is by far my favorite restaurant in Wilmington. The sushi is amazing but the also provide a wide variety of appetizers and entrees. I usually go for lunch considering the dinner prices are quite high. The bento boxes are delicious if you are looking for just a bit of sushi but also a lot of other items. The bento box comes with a salad, sushi, mixed veggies, choice of meat(or tofu which is amazing), and choice of 2 sides. I usually get the dumplings and tempura! I highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice night out for dinner! Enjoy!

One of the best sushi restaurants in town! This place has a good selection of both cooked and raw sushi rolls. We ordered the titanic boat since we had a large party. It came with sashimi, nigiri, and rolls. Some of us do not eat raw fish so we requested the sushi chef to make half of the rolls with only cooked fish. This restaurant was very generous with their sashimi portions. The sashimi slices looked like they were at least ½ «in thickness. They all tasted very fresh too! My favorite roll was the baked salmon roll. Overall, Tokyo 101 has nice décor, friendly staff, and great food! I will definitely be back again when I am craving for sushi.

This is my go to lunch spot after a long morning of shopping in Mayfaire. I am obsessed with their bento box lunch specials. In general I love a good bento box because it provides the opportunity to try all the things! I am the type of foodie who gets excited about trying a bunch of different things to taking a shot on one or two items. Tokyo 101 does a particularly good one in my opinion. All boxes start with a salad with ginger dressing and include mixed vegetables and fried rice. For my last visit I selected the filet mignon, gyoza and California roll. I got all of this for under $ 12 which is a good deal for the variety you get. The filet was tender and juicy and they gave a great portion of vegetables(read: included items other than a bunch of onion). The roll and gyoza were also excellent. The rice was a above standard with some veggies mixed in, but to be fair rice isn’t my thing. They get bonus points for having jasmine tea, which I have had trouble finding at restaurants lately. All in all the lunch is a good price for the amount and quality you receive. Service is attentive and you will leave full but not stuffed.

I went here on a Thursday night with a few work friends. They got us in quickly since it was rainy and business slower than normal. The food was good and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Portion sizes are large and could easily be shared. I had sushi, Snow Flower. It was more like a meal than sushi normally would be. It consisted of smoked salmon and cream cheese and was topped with lobster, crab and scallops in spicy mayo. It was very tasty as well as filling. My friends portion sizes were enormous as well and they too enjoyed their choices. The wait staff was accommodating and since we were catching up from not seeing each other for a while they were very gracious at leaving us to chat. I’m sure had they been busier it would have been slightly different, but for this time it worked for us.

Date night Dinner summary — stopped in for dinner before a movie and found Tokyo 101 to be A-OK. Will preface my review with the fact that we only did entrees, no sushi this time. Ambiance: overall clean and inviting. Nothing special Service: amateur at best. Our server was polite and cordial but missed some standard restaurant cues, like trying to clear a plate while we were definitely still putting food in our mouths and forgetting our appetizer order Drinks: full bar available Food: has a variety of Japanese fare ranging from sushi bar to hibachi to be to box –scallop yakisoba: think of it as stir fried ramen with veggies. Generous portions and good seasoning. The scallops were a touch overdone –chicken teriyaki bento box — a great deal! Includes soup, salad, roll of sushi, tempura, gyoza, AND of course rice with the teriyaki chicken. The best part was the sushi. The chicken was decent. Overall nice for a casual dinner. Will come back to try their sushi offerings.

Hands down best Japanese food I’ve eaten thus far(here in North Carolina)! Coming from Hawai’i and being Japanese, it’s a high standard to meet when looking for authentic Japanese food. The sushi was perfect! Ahi sashimi cut perfectly! The dinner box was amazingly large and hit the spot! The one thing I would do differently was the chicken. I feel like the chicken was the breast but would have tasted better if they used the thigh because there’s more juice in the thigh. Other than that, the service was spot on, our waitress was friendly, attentive, and quick! I will be going here again for sure and bringing all my friends when they visit me!

We tried this last night. The food was ok but not fantastic. We had miso soup, sushi, tempura and noodles between us. The service was really insufficient. It took forever for each step of the process. Also, I was never asked if I wanted another glass is wine which is really unfortunate for our server. Our server also disappeared once our dinner was served. I had to ask the hostess for my check long after we were through eating. And then thankfully another server saw us about 10 minutes later and took our payment. There was no lack of servers so the delay was not being too busy or a staff shortage. With so many other options in Wilmington we won’t be back.

Decent Bento Box lunch– came with rice, chicken, vegetables, soup or salad and two small sides(ordered the Californian roll and dumplings) for about $ 10 or $ 11. Wish they had a sushi only combo lunch option like many sushi places I’ve been to in the past. Also ordered the moon light roll which was good but definitely on the pricy side.

Great place! Been here several times and never disappointed. The closest to Okinawa food I’ve had since leaving oki! Save room for dessert cause the brownie and fried ice cream are worth it!
