This place is absolutely amazing. Upon arrival you are greeted by a very kind and welcoming staff. The complementary bruschetta and chickpea salad is delicious. For an appetizer we ordered the burrata mozzarella and prosciutto. For our main course we ordered the penne la grotta and chicken sorentino. Our desert was a crème brûlée. All of these dishes were exceptional. We will be back very soon.

Came here with hubby for dinner after he purchased a voucher. We called up and requested reservations on the same night with no problem. When we got there the place was pretty empty but the staff was inviting and showed us to our table. The décor is dated as is the menu, in my opinion. I was definitely thinking this may have been a mistake. On a bright note, our server was nice. He was attentive and accommodating. The voucher offered a shared appetizer, two salads and two entrées. We started off with the Stuffed Mushrooms and that was a complete let down. You can tell from the taste that they were nowhere close to being fresh and they were bland as ever. You could tell they were cooked from frozen because they tasted watered-down and they may have been kept far too long. Not the best start to a meal and we were reluctant to even stay to the end. When our salads arrived, I was very relieved. I had the Beet and Goat Cheese Salad and hubbs went with the classic Ceasar. We both enjoyed our huge salads very much but were unable to finish them, considering there would be more to come. Next to arrive were our entrées. Hubby had Chicken Parmesan which he loved and I tasted and liked as well. I don’t do chicken parm but it tasted very fresh and was a complete 180 from our first course. My entrée choice was the Braised Short Ribs w/Polenta and I have to say, I was very happy with my pick. The ribs were so tender, I was able to use a spoon to cut the meat and the polenta cakes were perfectly cooked. The portions are huge. We both took home doggie bags and we were full by meal’s end. Aside from those stuffed mushrooms, the food was very good. They could definitely use some updating with the dining room décor and menu; maybe get rid of the 90’s linens and become more of a bistro and less formal. The food they serve is good but you definitely should stick to the freshly prepared items. Despite the food being tasty after the appetizer, we probably wouldn’t go back. The dining room was a little depressing. At most, we would probably call up our order and just pick up since they’re so close to us.

I wish I could give more stars, retired now and snowbird but I must give this purveyor of the best meals with all the trimmings they deserve more stars. This is the first meal we look forward to, after leaving our plastic Location in Florida. Their dinners are and will always be on our bucket list. I am a tough critic but I melt from meals here. Thanx

I came here for a farewell party expecting the food to be average. I was pleasantly pleased. Although the appetizers(calamari) had chunks of salt on it, the other appetizers were tasty(baked clams, eggplant, artichoke). The main courses were all wonderful. The steak was cooked perfectly with an over abundance of onions. The chicken parm was thin and breaded well. The salmon was moist and flavorful. The staff were nice but there was a point they cleared all of our plates and never gave us silverware despite asking 3x for a fork. It was a little hectic at our party but would have been nice to get a fork to eat. Otherwise the private room was ample space for 80 people.

The food was good but the service was extremely poor. 9 people at the table all got their food but me. All were just about finished when he brought my food out which ended up being the wrong dish. Complained to owner she offered to buy me a drink I said not now I need my dinner first. She said ok later than after 15 more minutes I got my dinner but was never offered the drink again. Dessert was also wrong. Will not patronize this place again extremely poor customer service.

Love this place! One of the best Italian restaurants in Yonkers. Simple décor yet very appealing. Everyone is super friendly and inviting. The food is great! The mussels are worth a try, very good and the penne vodka is one of the best I ever had. Definitely worth visiting if you are in the area.

Very disappointed! This was our 4th year having Thanksgiving Dinner at La Grotta 2. We decided not to have turkey this year, but wanted the stuffing, cranberry sauce, and sweet potato! So I made a reservation requesting lobster. That had lobster tails, so we said great! But needless to say, I told the server 2 or maybe 3 times: Broiled Dry, Broiled Dry with nothing on the lobster tails, the server said not a problem! We got the lobster tails with: Garlic, enough to ward off Dracula, with wine and butter. Not very happy. They changed my lobster tails, but it was no help! Still full of garlic. and the lobster was very very tough! So, I would recommend you make sure you can get what you order! Beppie

I Came here for a surprise 25th anniversary. Food was good. I ordered the filet mignon which was over cooked. Pasta was pretty good I love penne filetto pomodoro. Other than that. The party room could use a makeover.

Best Italian food in this area– dinner comes with complementary bruschetta which is delicious. Ordered the mussels in white sauce which were great and the fettucine with zucchini and shrimp– cooked to perfection. Crème brûlée for dessert– amazing. Wait staff was professional and extremely attentive.

Was a great little place, but has now closed and moved to a new location on McLean Ave( ). Location has been reopened by a former La Grotta staff member and, if you can believe it, has gotten even BETTER! Best penne vodka for miles, and fantastic chicken dishes too. Called Bella Luna now —

I think this place really deserves 3.5 stars, but I’m rounding down rather than up. I came here about a month ago to attend my sister’s wedding rehearsal dinner. I think my brother-in-law’s parents are close to the owners? Anyhow, they were more than accommodating for our party of 20+ guests. They had created a pre-fixe menu for the guests to pick and choose from. Our servers were nice and attentive and the restaurant itself was nicely lit and decorated. I can only speak from my own experience as I had never dined here before so I wouldn’t know how the restaurant would be if you were to order from their regular menus. I had a fairly pleasant experience and so did everybody else at the party. The food itself was pretty good, though not mindblowingly amazing. They even made a dish exclusively for me since I am a vegetarian. I suppose if you wanted to throw some kind of large party here, the staff would be more than willing to help you out. They certainly attended to our needs and I had no real complaints. Also, there was a man playing on the grand piano just by the reception area.

This is the best Italian restaurant in the Bronx/Yonkers area. I think that a good Italian restaurant is one of the hardest things to find — and I’m Italian American and an Italian professor. Coming here is always a great experience, right down to the capuccino or espresso after dinner and the«Averna Amaro» digestive to wrap the whole dinner up. Just a great place to have dinner. You can come and eat here with confidence that you’re getting what you pay for.

I think the place is very romantic so don’t take just random chicks there, this one aint for the guma it’s for the wifey. Anyway the wine selection is pretty decent but who cares when the food I had was really really good. I’ve been here three times and had something different everytime and it’s been really good. It should be an irishmans dream to have a place that actually has good food on McLean ave instead of that dogfood all of those bars try to pass as food.

THISISITALIAN– NOTMEXICAN!!! CAN’T CHANGETHECATEGORY la grotta on midland ave in yonkers has closed down– OH-NO i loved that place. the owner has renovated a spacious site and moved in, including the waiters from the original site. well, i went to lunch there a month or so ago, the food and service excellent. but let me tell you about last night’s dinner… service as awful, it seems as if there was a party downstairs and our waiter left, there were not enough waiters or bus boys for the 7 or 8 occupied tables. there were 6 of us out for dinner, not such a large group, and the main course was served in drips and drabs. we tried canceling my husband’s order since it never arrived and we could not flag down staff. when we finally flagged down staff there was an apology and the manager promised to take care of us and would not let us cancel his order. the tardy porcinni mushroom/truffle ravioli tasted like portabella mushroom filling, the veal Marsala was swimming in sauce and tough, bones in the saucy fish dish, sauce on the spare rib ragu was not up to par, black linguine w/lobster — where’s the lobster(even the flavor of lobster)?, cappelli w/broccoli rabe was good. service was awful, we sat around trying to get more water with out any luck and dirty dishes were not removed from the table and main dishes served 2 at a time. this is nothing like the service, quality of food, or general ambiance of the original la grotta. of course we spoke to the manager, who came over from the original site. he generously tied to «take care» of the problem by not charging us for the wine or coffee, but that’s not the point. he did listen to our complaints. i doubt that we will return to la grotta 2 and i’m really glad that my anniversary dinner was at la grotta, on midland ave. that was delish… oh, they do not have a handicap ramp or access, it was really difficult for my 93 year old father and his walker. staff did come out to help him in, but no offer for assistance leaving. the steps are steep.

Yum! For special office parties, we would get La Grotta to cater for us. The favorite dish was the chicken alla grotta which was chicken in some sort of sauce with asparagus, prosciutto, and mozzerella. Their chicken marsala is delicious as well. The bread is really fresh and yummy. I went to dine in once with a few work colleagues. Looking at the menu, I saw that things were pricey(and I started wondering how expensive it must’ve been to cater as often as we did) but the portions are really generous. They bring you lots of bread and breadsticks and the staff is pretty attentive. My water was refilled regularly and we were asked if we need anything else an appropriate number of times(meaning not SO many times that we were bothered but not so little that we didn’t get what we needed in a timely manner). All in all, a really yummy place!

From the outside the restaurant looks like a diner but please don’t be fooled by the plastic picnic furniture. The place has some of the best Italian food in the city. Great customer service and best of all the place is filled with nothing but EYE-talians. I recommend that you try the buffalo mozzarella, especially now since tomatoes are in season. The calamari is light but not greasy and the soups — can we say heaven with a slice of sunshine? I typically order the Osso Bucco but I haven’t had one meal there that I didn’t like. The servings are huge and the the pasta comes Al Dente. Best of all if you become a regular the management will help you make the freshest and tastiest choices. We often have the Tiramisu for dessert and the only other time I’ve had authentic Tiramisu has been in Italy. You can’t go wrong. Even the complimentary appetizer(beans, tomatoes, bread and olive oil) are superb and every meal ends with fruit. Can we say Wonderful?
