La Taverna del Bisbe

We stopped in for lunch on the way to to Barcelona Cathedral (which is steps away) during our visit to Barcelona in mid-​November. The restaurant was busy but not overly crowded, and we were seated immediately. My daughter and I ordered tapas, and my husband a sandwich. The croquettes, the anchovies in vinegar, the meat and potato ball, and the sautéed prawns were particularly good. The olives and the omelette lacked pizzazz, but were fine. We had a bottle of wine, a sandwich, 9 tapas items, 2 desserts, and cappuccino for 75 Euros, which we thought was great. The service was good, and the atmosphere is nice.

Location… It’s all about location.
Just by the Cathedral… my friend was hungry and wanted to sit down someplace easy for me to find and catch up with her. She’d ordered some wine, pan con tomate, and calamari. When I finally joined, eventually (after an interminable amount of time), a server came and asked if I wanted something to drink… uh yes.
The calamari was doughy, and rubbery… the bread was tough… the wine was ok. The terrace was nice. Same with the setting. I don’t think I’d ever stay here for a meal — this only served as a meeting spot, and to get a quick bite before continuing on our day.

We tried to have breakfast here and sat at the bar. The bartender had an attentiion span that was too short to take our order. I don’t know how the food is (we did not get any) and every place can have a bad moment. Unfortunately this place made my «#1 unfriendly spot in Barcelona» this weekend. Congrats!

A very good looking place, chic interior with classical music playing at the right volume in the background. Went in for a desert and coffee. Although wearing some sort altenative clothes it was no problem. Waitress was very nice and gave us a free choice if table.
The desserts were really good. Ice-​cream sith real flavours and no fake taste to it. Cremebrule was as it supposed to be.
Price is somewhat higher than normal but for the what you get back it is worth it.

This was the worst meal we had during probably our entire Spain trip. We were tired one evening and since we were in the area we decided to just try this spot. Luckily we only ordered a couple items, but it was enough for us to say no more. We ordered the patatas bravas and the croquettas to start, and my husband ordered a mojito. It was a challenge to finish just what we ordered but we didn’t want it go to waste so somehow we managed to the do so. The filling of the croquettas was just… strange and not good. The patatas bravas were in a sauce that also was strange and very oily. The mojito… tasted like cough medicine to me.
While we were there, we saw 3 different groups of people sit down and then getup to leave before ordering. We should have taken that as a sign.

The staff was extremely rude we sat down and left. We heard the waiter tell a customer very rudely that he couldn’t sit in a four seater table he had to sit in a two seater table. The staff were talking in their language about the customers they didn’t know we understood. Never go there you can be treated better anywhere else!

Well, I would say that it’s the worst place I’ve been in Spain. Food is not good, made for tourist… Chorizo not well cooked, pulpos disgusting… Waiter not friendly. Go somewhere else, I’m sure you will easily find better.

We randomly stopped here for a small meal and a drink while having a wonder around the Barre Gotic. It looked friendly enough and was brilliantly situated right near the Cathedral.
It’s been some time since we were there but if I remember correctly between us we had octopus, croquettas, and morcilla (black pudding) dish. There was probably more but as I said it was a few months ago now. I do remember having a very tasty «shandy» in an extremely cold ceramic mug!
Tapas places around here are really a much of a muchness but I would visit here again.

We have dines here twice in the past two days. Very convenient to our hotel. The food was great. The cathedral sandwich was fantastic. Tapas this evening were wonderful and and our waitress was delightful. Nice welcome to this great city.

Situé sur la place de la Cathédrale, ce restaurant qui possède une terrasse couverte offre un cadre idéal pour déjeuner ou dîner. J’y ai mangé du porc servi avec des pommes confites et une purée d’aubergine… Un vrai régal !
En bref, je recommande cet endroit. Cadre idéal, cuisine délicieuse… Que demander de plus ?!

No es propio de mi catalogar tan bajo un establecimiento, prefiero no hacer mención de él, a comentarlo, pero en este caso lo voy a hacer.
En primer lugar decir que como restaurante goza de una situación privilegiada estando en la misma plaza de la catedral y haciendo esquina con ventanales rodeándolo y una buena terraza, del mismo modo la decoración se muestra acorde al sitio donde se encuentra, evocando tiempos lejanos… Pero ahora viene cuando la matan, como se suele decir. No me cabe en la cabeza que teniendo semejantes virtudes, no aprovechen para explotarlas dando una buena calidad de productos y servicio.
Para empezar pedimos unas bravas, creo que podría decir sin equivocarme que son las peores que he comido, estaban pasadas, blandas y muy aceitosas, mención a parte la salsa que las acompañaba, nada parecida a lo que una salsa brava es, que pena, porque para los 4,10 € que cuestas, ya podrían dar aunque sea un poco mas de calidad, ya no pido mucha, pues tengo la sensación que se ha preferido sacrificar lo que podía ser un local emblemático, en un restaurante para extranjeros donde la calidad del producto no es lo principal.
Para continuar nos pedimos un par de torradas, no estaban mal, el pan tostado estaba bien y los ingredientes también, al fin y al cabo son torradas, no requieren mucha complicación, estaban buenas. El pero estaría en mis aceitunas que estaban completamente insípidas y blandas, como aguadas y que el camarero nos trajo el aceite y vinagre para aliñar la ensalada que las acompañaba, cuando ya nos la habíamos acabado.
En definitiva, no ha sido el broche brillante que esperaba para una gran noche, por suerte la compañía brillaba con luz propia.
Por resumirlo todo, bonito restaurante sin grandes expectativas en la comida.

Decent food, decently priced. There are so many similar places to eat in Barcelona it’s hard to distinguish them (and there was no particular reason for going here other than it was just here).
But there’s nothing really wrong with it so if you’re in the area and hungry you might as well eat here and be satisfied :)

Great food, great service! Love this place!

Stopped in because it was convenient and the waiter was very welcoming. Asked bar or inside. I chose the bar because I was dining alone. He was very helpful. And I chose the menu of the day. I had steamed vegetables with olive oil, roast chicken and flan plus a drink for 10 euros. The tapas looked good as well.

This was a nice place. Good food and good drinks. The only real issue I had was the wait staff. They didn’t seem to care about you, but the food was served hot and quickly. I guess if the staff had been a bit more accommodating, I would have given it 4 Stars.

We arrived late on our first night — and this was one of few places open. We expected a total tourist trap from the looks of the place — but in reality, only partially. It’s a clean nice place smack dab in the tourist district, overpriced, and menu all in English. With that said, the food was great. The carrot soup in particular was delicious. I’d say if you’re traveling with kids and need something easy, go for it.

Welcome respite from the Christmas Market outside La Seu, beer at EUR2.30, coffee, ice-​cream available all day. Food looked good.

Rudest waiter ever!!! That’s all I have to say.

I am sure that they rake in the tourist business with this location very near the cathedral. That would typically make me wary, but since it looked very handsome through the front windows and the time and place were right, in we went.
And the verdict was… thumbs up. The service was a little frustrating, but most of the food was very good. The champiñones and stuffed piquillo peppers were excellent, and the café con leche satisfying, but the «Andalusian» calamari is just fried calamari like you can get in almost any sports bar in the United States.
All in all, it was a nice setting for a leisurely midafternoon meal and satisfying food for our first tapas excursion of the trip. Later on, we had some better and some worse, but we were happy with this initial stop on our gustatory tour of Spain.

Si tienes unos amigos en Barcelona y les haces la típica ruta por el centro de la ciudad, ¿qué mejor que comer frente a la Catedral? El lugar bien merece la pena y es posible comer allí sin que te atraquen a mano armada, con un menú más o menos al precio convencional. No es el mejor momento de este restaurante –hace algunos años, su menú era de lo mejorcito de la zona– pero sigue conservando unos mínimos de calidad que están bastante por encima de la media: un menú básicamente mediterráneo, variado y equilibrado que puede incluso tomarse en la terraza mientras músicos van amenizando. No sé si será una comida memorable, pero seguro que quedarás bien con tu visita.

Estuvimos este viernes cenando en este local.
La ubicación es muy buena, junto a la catedral y si el tiempo acompaña se puede salir a la terraza.
Nada más entrar hay una barra y unas poquitas mesas, más al fondo hay un comedor con muchas mesas, demasiadas, lo que resta intimidad en las conversaciones y hacen que se todo se vea demasiado ‘apretujado’. Es algo que me incomoda, la verdad.
La carta es larga, hay platos de pasta, carnes, pescados, arroces nosotros éramos 3 personas, pedimos para compartir una ensalada con queso de cabra y miel balsámica que nos pareció muy normalita. Otro plato que compartimos fue una exqueisada. Tampoco nos pareció para tirar cohetes ya que el pimiento estaba demasiado duro. Los segundos elegidos fueron un rissoto con ceps para mi gusto un poco soso pero de buen sabor, una fideua, muy rica y muy abundante y una lubina (no la probé pero mi amigo dijo que estaba buena).
Por esto y cuatro cafés pagamos unos 26 euros por cabeza.
Resumiendo diría que es un lugar agradable pero abarrotado y a un precio quizás un poquito elevado para lo que se come.

Situado junto a la plaza de la catedral este restaurante nos ofrece dos posibilidades, una la opción de bar y otra la de restaurante.
EL local lo podemos dividir en dos partes: en la primera de ellas es donde podemos encontrar la zona ‘bar’ donde se dan paso a la barra y algunas mesas para tomar un pequeño aperitivo acompañado de una buena cerveza; y la otra zona es la del restaurante, que se incorpora al fondo del local donde podemos disfrutar de una sabrosa comida rodeados de una muy cuidada decoración a base de madera que dan al local un toque peculiar, aunque en la zona de la entrada podemos disfrutar de las maravillosas visrtas de la plaza.

Petite rectification, la photo né correspond pas à ce lieu. Serveurs conviviaux, s’amusant avec les passants et habitués. Il se situe sur la place de la cathédrale (qui est en rénovation) On peut y manger correctement ou simplement boire un verre pour se désaltérer. Les prix sont un peu élevé du fait de l’emplacement, mais restent corrects.
