I grew up on these burgers and remember them fondly, but this place I’d definitely not what I remember. Maybe my tastebuds have grown, maybe I’ve become too empathetic to people’s feelings and have spent too many years in the industry not to notice poor service, but… The owners/servers seemed absolutely miserable. I went in for the first time in at least 15 years about a month ago and still remember how this place did not give me warm and fuzzy feelings. I sat at the bar, because I was by myself and I remember staring at the wall until a guy finally took my order out of pity. Once I did get my food I was never checked on, despite basically being in their face due to my seating. I never witnessed a smile and I do remember doing my best charm one out of anyone who acknowledged me… Now about the food… I remember nothing about it due to the vibe foreshadowing, sadly. I won’t be returning unless I’m entertaining a tourist with a halibut sandwich… Even then, probably not.

Really good food. Nothing fancy just traditional diner fare cooked to order. The coffee was good. Only thing wrong was my booth seat had some broken springs in it.

A truly exquisite Alaska Dining Experience! I don’t believe there is anyone who will, would, or could not have a taste bud tantalizing explosion of deliciousness in their mouth when they bite into the, crispy-exterior coating to the succulent-interior transition of orgasmic fresh halibut in the sandwich that beats all restaurants in the Anchorage area from anywhere other than from the White Spot! Be still my beating heart! During my short wait for my food in the most friendly environment, every staff or server I made eye contact with offered up a smile, which I swear made me think they were pumping hallucinating drugs out through the air system as it’s nice to go somewhere that you don’t have to pantomime, point and wave your arms around to get what you want. That’s waaayyy too much exercise! My husband and I are a HUGE fan of the White Spot Halibut Sandwich and their fresh and most tasty hamburger sandwich. I hope they keep serving until my dying day! Their sandwiches are the best ever consumed or concocted in the history of mankind! Any presentation of the famous«White Spot Halibut Sandwich», here, and forever more after, no matter how audacious, whether Bobby Flay(American Celebrity Chef) or Guy Fieri(American Restaurateur) trying to match it on the food network… NOONE could remake the White Spot Halibut Sandwich the true way it should be enjoyed… fresh, flavorful, crisp, piping hot and beyond delicious. NOONE… I mean being a GREAT Anchorage tradition, they have been serving customers and perfecting their menu items since 1946, that’s 70 years folks! The White Spot offers Homemade mind blowing breakfast, homemade soups, jambalaya, fresh rock fish, jumbo wild caught shrimp, BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, fresh salads with homemade dressing… must I say more? AND… The ambiance is a retro-throwback to the city’s pre-earthquake days… just a gem to visit. THISIS A MUSTGOTOPLACETODINEINANCHORAGE, ALASKA!.. Don’t be surprised if you experience a Harry met Sally experience when you are dining at The White Spot… because it is very orgasmic food! You can’t go wrong here… It is definitely worth you checking out!!! Caveat: I am tummy love Unilocaling, full of exuberance from yet another amazing meal. I may have left out details, important people. It’s like giving an Oscar speech. My point is that this place is just as great as ever. So check it out!

One of those burger joints that’s been around since the beginning obviously they must be doing something right. The place is fairly open and you can sit at the counter and watch the cooks make your food and serve it right there. The burgers and fries are pretty good, fries are house made which is nice. Very old fashion however, not a big fan of wonder bread burger buns. Its a little bit on the spendy side but not so much. A good place to get good burgers downtown.

Easily, the best burgers and fries in town!!! The halibut sandwich is a favorite as well. It draws rave reviews from everyone I know that’s had it, including my boss who I took there once(she’d never been) and has me notify her anytime I go so I can bring her back one.

I went here after a coworker raved about what amazing halibut sandwiches they have. I decided to try a burger; one of the best I’ve had in a while! I didn’t realize going in that they only accept cash, I managed to just barely cover my food but they said don’t worry about it. They’re so nice and the food was so good I’ll definitely be going back!(And leaving a big tip this time)

My husband and I have been here once and we loved it! It is extremely good and the people that work there are very friendly(which is rare in beautiful Alaska). The only bad thing thing is that there is limited seating. Thankfully it was only two of us, much more would be difficult to seat together. Awesome place and we will go again!

Update: I’m still impressed by this place, but I have to report that the corned beef hash is no longer offered. I did just realize that they serve beer and wine here. Schwing!!!

Waitress walked up, gave us our food, never asked if there was anything else we needed. Never once smiled. Actually not one staff member smiled. Had to get up 3 times to ask for things. Nothing special about the food, in fact my BLT was t.i.n.y!

Fish and chips to die for. Awesome. Service was a little questionable for a mid sized local style diner. The food quality more than made up for it.

These fries should be against the law! and the Halibut well it might even be better! Such a value for your money and now you can have a beer with your fish! But do not try to order breakfast after 10:50 am, though why you would want something like an egg if you could hve these fries or halibut I do not know!

First timer at White Spot Café and can only rate their famous Halibut sandwich which was awesomely delicious. The price is a bit steep though, $ 15 for a plate — sandwich and fries. However, I will definitely come back to check out the rest of the menu. More update to come.

Best home fried potatoes ever. Cute little local diner for breakfast or lunch open since 1946.

Love this place! Every time I come to Anchorage I’m sure to stop in, say«hi» to Tom and have me a halibut sandwich. Can’t go wrong with this local diner. It’s expanded, with more seating and you can sit at the bar and watch them make your meal. Love it!

The halibut sandwich gets 5 stars! The other breakfast items we had were on the OK category. The cash only and the service in general is not great but not terrible either. But if your in the area drop in and get a halibut sandwich.

This place opened the same year Alaska became a state. Pretty good omelette, which they nicely split for us since the portions are quite large. We shared the reindeer and cheese omelette. On the downside, the staff was not exceptionally friendly and hardly greeted us when we arrived. We will probably try other breakfast places in Anchorage before this one.

Awesome old school greasy spoon. I came here for breakfast and at 745 there were a couple other folks here either on their way to work or just early risers. I got a veggie omelette, and it came with home fries and toast. Solid omelette! Everything else on the menu was pretty greasy meaty stuff. They were liberal with the coffee refills too. My waiter was professional and attentive, a man of relatively few words. The place seems to have been around for a very long time.

This place still stinks. Sad sad sad. Why my buddy had to try this place over my protests I will never know. Over medium eggs, nasty. Chicken fried steak smelled rotten. Dishes and utencils were dirty and I got a glare when I pointed it out and replavements where tossed on the counter. This place should be put out of its misery. Customers should go elsewhere and let this dump die off. One item of note. People posting 5 star reviews keeps sending me nasty messages and claim to be part of the business or owners family. So don’t trust some of the reviews. Ryan D. for one posting about halibut sandwich… not a valid reviewer.

I have always enjoyed this place! I give it a five star because they are a old style diner not trying to be anything else, well, because they don’t have to! They have old school décor with all the first photos and the place back from 1959. I sometimes really appreciate the the diner feel, hole in the wall with the best food! I had the halibut sandwich with fries! Omg spot on! Extremely fresh halibut, perfect crisp of veggies, and buns are to die for, yet so simple! My hubby had the bacon cheeseburger, obviously one of the best! Oh and a plus!!! They extended their space and they also have beer and wine now! Their Chardonnay delivered to me in a ice cold brew cup! Can’t get any better than that! They didn’t get their wine glasses yet! Love it!
