Smelled like weed as you walked passed the rooms. I got a knock on my door after midnight saying my car had been going off. By the time I got downstairs it «apparently» stopped. The hotel manager threaten to tow my car if it happened again. I stood in the lobby for 45 minutes for it to go off the rest of the night, which it never did(I have the front desk clerk my cell phone number). The next morning I spoke with the manager again and he was very rude stating he called my room which he didn’t and then sent the front desk clerk to wake me. He stated the alarm went off at times when I wasn’t even there and he didn’t offer an apology or a way to fix the situation; he just continued to be rude in front of his staff. Not to mention that he was in shorts and a sweatshirt. I wouldn’t even drive by this hotel let alone ever think about staying there again. It’s very sketchy to say the least.

So let’s start with the basics — when you book a hotel room for $ 52 a night, you shouldn’t expect it to be much more than clean. However, on Game weekends their price skyrockets and we paid over $ 150 per room, per night. It was just as horrible as everyone else here says, but with a few more things: 1. It was a month after the historic flooding in South Carolina, so Athens was hit with a water quality alert and we were told not to drink the water on night 1. On night 2, once the water quality alert was lifted, the water still flowed brown from the shower. Not started brown. Stayed brown. 2. We rented 3 double queen rooms. In 2⁄3 of the rooms, the smoke detectors had been removed. The one room that had a smoke detector, it had to have been from before I was born. None of the rooms had fire evacuation plans on the back of the doors. You commonly see these in hotel rooms because they are required by the state Fire Marshal’s office. That’s right, for throwing over a grand at this place in one weekend, we got fire code violations.

I realize this hotel(motel on their sign) was not expensive but it was gross and there’s no excuse for that. ROACHES! The room had an odor of feet. The toilet had a disgusting mildew/black funk ring. ROACHES! The shower curtain was moldy. The towels were nasty stained. The mattresses were stained. ROACHES!!! Walls so thin we could hear people checking in. Just bad. Won’t be back. Breakfast was nice — but there’s only so much credit a waffle iron can earn– 1 star for the waffle maker! Staff were friendly but clueless. Brought them the nasty towel and was told«don’t worry about the stains they clean! We use bleach! Not Clorox but definitely bleach .» OMG We advised about roaches and they wanted to send in maintenance … I can step on a roach as easy as him. Offer a different room! Ugh. Rant over… Pay the extra $ 30 and stay somewhere clean! Pics on my check-in!

I don’t normally give bad reviews. I attempt to see the positive in all things. But this place takes the cake for mediocre. I had requested non smoking like the other commenter. I also had requested a King single bed room. I got a smoking double full room instead. I had stayed in a very nice and clean Microtel in Johnstown, NY so I was expecting the same here. I was sadly disappointed. The room was, while clean enough, still a bit grungy. It could have used a couple of coats of paint. The door only closed when I pulled on it really hard. There was visible rust on the kleenex box in the bathroom. And«close to downtown» this is not — you go outside of the loop for this place. Only two positives: Really helpful staff and there’s a brand new Target store across the street should you forget anything. Oh and the Wifi is a joke. You can see the network but you can’t connect to it.

It’s located right across the mall and near the highway, so there are the plusses. The 1st thing I noticed was the smell. It was a smoking room when I had requested non-smoking. A flipped over ashtray was in the bathroom. The lights did not work properly and flickered back on and off regularly. The paint was peeling from part of the wall. The air conditioning was not cooling but rather a tepid humid blower. The staff at check-in and check-out were both nice and there was ice in the ice machine. Other than that, I would not recommend this place, even for 1 night.
