As someone who doesn’t make it to West Campus too often, I am happy to report that Monkey Nest slings a great cup of coffee and was an excellent spot to meet with my boss for a meeting. I was there on a week day in the mid morning, and had plenty of room and spread out, find outlets, and to focus on working. The smoked salmon sandwhich was delicious, although next time I would pass on the gluten free bread and get down with some yummy wheat. Friendly staff, but the lighting was a bit harsh and parking was essentially impossible. A great spot for a student who lives close by!

This new outpost of the highly acclaimed Monkey’s Nest, a North Burnet institution, caters to many international students as well as well-to-do males of the upper-middle class(i.e. fraternity boys). With a more pared down selection of baked goods, I prefer the other location for grub, but the seating and lighting at this location are more inviting, class-room style, and lacking any sort of «indie coffee shop» vibe. Additionally, you’ll find a smattering of coffee options, albeit not coming from the best quality roasters. Nonetheless, Monkey’s Nest affords students and faculty alike the opportunity for a more local feel than Starbucks.

Great place to study because there are so many outlets available! Their coffee is pretty good as well. I was hoping for latte art but the barista was new and she didn’t know how to do that yet sadly. I tried the salted caramel latte and the honey luv latte. I really liked the salted caramel latte. The honey luv latte has a cinnamon and ginger flavor which was definitely an interesting combination but it worked. I was a little skeptical at first but the barista was kind enough to put only a little bit of ginger in it. It got a little noisy when a huge crowd came in. The location is convenient for students who live in west campus.

ATTENTIONUTSTUDENTS: YOUDON’T HAVETOKEEPSETTLINGFORTHATSTARBUCKSBSANYMORE! Why oh why wasn’t this place around when I went to UT and LITERALLY lived right across the street??? Timing is everything in life and love, y’all. Timing is everything :’( While I’m pretty darn smitten with the Burnet location of Monkey Nest, this one just might have stolen my heart even more! Located on the ground floor of the big University Towers building, is the brand-spanking-new Monkey Nest that is perfectly located for UT students in the west campus area. They validate parking too, which is hard to come by in this neighborhood! Their magical barista Lauren(who also has an awesome name– I’m lame I know it) will be sure to whip you up a tasty concoction whether it be a mocha, a chocolate chimp, a honey bee latte, or a chocolate chai latte. ANDDDD she’ll put a fancy schmancy longhorn on top if you ask nicely!!!(This was the best part!!!) Monkey nest is a perfect place to meet a friend, study, or get some work done. The high ceilings, cheery interior, and huge windows let in tons of natural light, which is always a plus! Can’t wait to come back and get my coffee on!
