The food was really good and I was hungry. The combination of unique and tasty fried potatoes(fries), and apparently a healthier type of fried Chicken(I chose roasted), I felt extremely satisfied after my meal. I’ve tried most of the places in that strip mall now and so far and they compete with the rest. One suggestion would be to add spicier options for people accustomed to traditional heat and smokey flavor in fried chicken.

Just tried this place for the first time and found the fried chicken and brussel slaw both very yummy. I added some yellow currants and pistachio meats to the slaw and dipped the chicken in a mango jalapeño aioli. Great gf stuff!

This is a good place for gluten free eaters and their chicken tenders are always good. However, their sides are not very good, the smashed potato fries are usually overlooked and bland and the steamed greens and seasonal veggies are also bland. They are overpriced for the quality of their food. I think if they put more effort in making better sides, they could be a great place to eat.

A good place if you like fried chicken made from scratch with apparently good quality ingredients, organic when possible according to their website. And as healthy as fried chicken can be. So why only 3 starts? Well, because even if the chicken was moist inside, crispy on the outside, I found that it lacked flavor, like everything I tasted there. The spaghetti squash would have been very good but definitively needed more salt or spices, same for the smashed potato fries. The atmosphere is like the food, needs to show more personality. The place is a little to bare to be attractive. This is an interesting concept and I got the feeling while having lunch there that they are quite close to serving very good food. With a few small changes in both décor and food, Yellowbelly could be great.

Great food and friendly service! Didn’t realize this is an independently owned fast casual restaurant. Barry, one of the owners, was super friendly when I walked in to check it out. The food is natural and fresh. Fried chicken was really delicious and the roasted chicken was tender and juicy. The smashed potato fries were superb. Highly recommend! For a quick, easy and satisfying meal it can’t be beat!

Chicken is great! Healthy choices. Prices are fair. Only problem is the service. I felt rushed and like they wanted my friends and I out fast.

There is a serious lack of fried chicken in Boulder, which is how I ended up at this place. I went all-out and got an order of dark meat(two bone-in thighs) with the smashed potatoes and mac pie. The chicken was super-moist and high quality, and the breading was done really well. The seasoning was kind of weird to me; maybe contains five spice? I tasted cinnamon and maybe anise… potatoes were good, nice and crispy, but need sauce– both the ketchup and BBQ complement well. The mac pie, though… super-bland with an off-putting slightly sour taste. It needed salt, and I ALWAYS gripe that things are over-salted… I think the sauce has eggs in it, custard-style, but it just turned out grainy and uneven. I would not use the word ‘cheesy’ to describe. The crust on top was weak, too. I would come back for the chicken and potatoes… if I felt like splurging, both calorie– and money-wise. I wish there was a platter deal.

I tried to find this place but Unilocal brought me to Rincon Argentino. Maybe it’s no longer in business?

I don’t write Unilocal reviews as often as I should, but I do use Unilocal all the time for restaurants/bars/food suggestions and for some reason really felt compelled to write a review after eating at Yellowbelly. Perhaps it’s because the restaurant came highly rated(average 4 stars), and its the first time Ive felt misled by Unilocal reviews. Yellowbelly is not bad, but not great, just. Average. I ordered the fried white chicken, red slaw salad and Mac and cheese. The slaw was pretty bland, and the Mac and cheese was just alright — not as cheesy or creamy as I was hoping for. The fried chicken was pretty delicious though, and still pretty moist for white meat. Additionally the food is all incredibly reasonably priced and more on the healthier side so you don’t have the fried food guilt afterwards. Parking is also pretty easy too. All in all, if you’re in the area I would definitely eat at Yellowbelly but I would not go out of my way to eat there either.

I never write reviews. This place is horrible. The ‘fries’ are little hard rocks of fried matter… The chicken is tough, overcooked, salty, oily, and tastes funny. There is a sign on the door that says«don’t be afraid, come in!» Now I know why. I will never go back and am throwing all of our dinners away.

You’d think with chicken being the focus of the menu that it would be awesome. Supermarket rotisserie chicken is more tender and juicy. Maybe yellowbelly chicken has better pedigree. Maybe kale salad is actually what it’s about here. I don’t like kale.

Love this place! Succulent, juicy chicken. Amazing kale salad! Delicious potatoes! Even the(grapefruit infused) water is good. This is a great example of a restaurant carving out a niche of doing one thing and doing it well! The chicken salad wrap is my favorite!

Meh, don’t bother. Wandered in here for lunch after the shopping center directory falsely led us to believe there was a pita place here. We got the two sandwich options and neither was particularly good. My fiancé’s pita had a bunch of gristle bits in its rotisserie chicken. The green of the day was garlic buttered green beans which were upsettingly salty. The mac n cheese was tiny, curdled and bland. TL;DR overpriced and nothing special.

Yellowbelly is a great option if you are gluten-free! How I wish we had something like this in Phoenix — a fast food GF joint. I ordered the roasted chicken with brussel sprout slaw and GF fries. The chicken was pretty moist, the brussel sprout slaw was ok, and the fries were fine. I am a brussel sprout fan — and they can really just skip the slaw part, roast those brusell sprouts up with some bacon, and slather some balsamic vinegar — Voila! It would be a flavorful masterpiece! I gave it three stars because there was nothing in my meal that stood out. When I am at home, I normally eat a paleo diet and I can make some really tasty paleo dishes. Why can’t Yellowbelly do the same?

For their gluten free fries chicken they get the full five stars… But their sides don’t thrill me as much(and I’ve tried most of them). Don’t mistake that to mean I don’t like them — I do… It’s just that nothing is a standout, have to have, crave it ’till you eat it, five star side that rocks my world. They’re all just ok. My poor gluten intolerant husband loves that he can get tasty, quality fried chicken that is locally sourced, so for that we will be happy customers. OH, I should also note that it is more visually appealing for customers if the nice gals behind the counter tied their hair back. They may not be doing any of the cooking, but they’re close enough to the food prep area to make me gag a little the times I noticed.

I happened upon this restaurant by accident and what a find! Friendly greetings as you enter and helpful guidance in selecting from the fresh menu. The portions are generous but the food is so good I wish I could eat more! Try them for take away also.

They improved their fried chicken breasts but now their smash fries suck. They’re just like baked potatoes, huge chunks very bland. I miss when they had small pieces… These suck! Even worse is I got some spoiled potato in the mix. Need better quality control.

I visited for the first time recently. Once I deciphered the menu, food was served quickly. My chicken sandwich was great and the sides I had were tasty. I’m not too sure how healthy everything here is, but on days I don’t care, I’ll come back. As much as I’d heard about Yellowbelly, I was expecting them to be a little busier. After eating there, they certainly ought to be. A great alternative to fast food!

I rated yellowbelly a 2 because i simply did not like the food. I didnt like the taste of the chicken at all, it was alright, it wasnt dry or anything but this place was famous for their chicken and i just did not like it. The sides were better. If it were up to me i wouldve just gotten a side of mac and cheese. The service was nice and the place was nice and clean but i would not go back.

Now that I am trying to reduce my red meat consumption I tend to look for a good place to eat chicken. So I thought I would give Yellowbelly a try since I was nearby. I had the dark chicken wit sides of broccoli slaw and smashed potato fries. The chicken was just ok, maybe a bit too seasoned but palatable. The broccoli slaw was gross I left it uneaten. The smashed potato fries were good and seasoned just right for my taste buds. I had a root beer and that was very tasty and I do love root beer. The BBQ sauce was gross and I can’t imagine that taste would appeal to anyone but it must since it lives on. I wouldn’t go here again unless I wanted to go for the smashed fries and a cold root beer.
