Wow. Super fresh food and old school service. Loved it. Ended up, the kids made us go there a second time. They even have a great vegetarian menu. Would highly recommend.

Excellent sushi. Best sushi I have ever eaten. The owner trained for many years in Japan and we are fortunate to have him in our town. their are many rolls on the menu and Nabi has made special rolls when I told him I wanted something as spicy hot as he could make it. I have been there many times and have never been disappointed.

I am fortunate in that my job allows me to travel around the country, and indeed the world where I am afforded an opportunity to experience different foods and culture. I can – and will – say with absolute confidence that Sushi-Nabe is the best sushi that I have ever had. Period.(I say this though acknowledging the fact that I have never been to Japan for sushi) Now, if your idea of sushi is some deep fried, mayonnaise concoction dripping with eel sauce, well then I am sure Sushi-Nabe is indistinguishable from the ubiquitous sushi haunts you will find in any city. But if you know what you are doing, this place is an absolute gem. First, skip the the table and head straight to the sushi bar. Nabe-san(the owner) will be happy to greet you. Next, don’t even bother glancing at the Maki rolls. They are good, but that is not what you are here for. Ask Nabe-san what he has gotten in fresh that day from Japan. It may not even be on the menu. And whatever he says, you order it. No questions asked. For example, the other day he offered me a deep-water King Crab Nigiri that was caught off the waters of Western Japan. I remember, one time I had the opportunity to shake the hand of Bob Dylan. I didn’t want to wash my hand for a week. After eating this crab, I felt much the same sensation in that anything else I could put in my mouth would simply be unworthy. The Uni was incredible. It was creamy and sweet and fresh. The Mirugai(giant clam) was the best I have ever had. And of course the Toro. I can’t forget the Toro. My God, it was like good Foie Gras. No soy sauce needed. Plus, if you are friendly, Nabe-San is all too willing to give you a free sample of whatever concoction he made for the day to go along with your sake. Today it was something resembling a Hawaiian Poke. I get to Chattanooga every few months and this is by far my favorite part of my trip. You all are very lucky to have this place.

Sushi is one of my favorite foods. Good sushi, bad sushi, I don’t really care — it’s always good, kind of like pizza. Or sex. However, Sushi Nabe is some of the best sushi I have ever had. In fact, it may BE the best sushi I have ever had. Even some of the best sushi places in New York City don’t even compare — I would know, I lived there. Anyways, the delicious sushi does come at a price, a monetary price and the price of mediocre service. It usually takes quite a while for the food to get to the table, but, again, the food is more than worth it. The reason I put 5 stars instead of 4 is because despite the service, the food is just that damn good. P. S. Get the Blue Ridge roll, you just can’t go wrong with that bad boy.

Contrary to many of the reviews we experienced very good service. Prompt waitress service, seating and food. We loved the atmosphere kind of Japanese eclectic kitchy décor. We all had sushi and rolls. It was all fresh and tasty. The only call out we had was that the rolls were not rolled tightly enough so that when you went to pick them up the invariably fell apart. We mentioned it to the proprietress as we walked out. Good sign that the owners are present and on site. She was gracious and accepting of the criticism. We would go back.

I’m not a sushi expert, but I’ve eaten my fair share. I have been here twice and both times I have had no complaints. I’ve had good service and the sushi has been delicious. Their rolls are a perfect size and easy to eat in one bite, which I think is important. The décor could use some freshening, but the meal itself was perfect.

Coming from the west coast where sushi is everywhere to Chattanooga. Sushi-Nabe is the best you can find here. What I like is if you want something they do not have just ask they will special order for you.

Not bad for a sushi place in the south. However, the rolls we ordered were of quality, though they seemed a bit dry. It’s the best sushi I’ve had in Chattanooga, but not the best I’ve had. I’d recommend it if you’re in Chattanooga and want sushi. My daughter approved as well. The other complaint — they should validate parking. Maybe it’s not an option for them though?

All you need to know is overpriced sushi. Not worth the cost here guys. Average roll is about $ 12, and after everyone gets two rolls you walk out spending $ 100. You can buy a whole tuna with that price.

This restaurant has one of the most extensive sushi menus in Chattanooga. The server was very knowledgeable and she offered to help us narrow our choices. The sushi is fabulous, some of my favorite around. They have several types of sake also. The restaurant is located in Coolidge Park. It was pleasant to sit on the back deck then walk around in the park afterwards.

First the good; the service was good, and there is a very large selection of special rolls, many of them very creative. They also have a nice selection of cocktails. The average: the sushi tasted fine; not terrible but definitely not the best I’ve had. The frustrating issue that will keep me from ever eating here again: the special rolls were about twice as wide as normal maki, and it was impossible to fit one piece in one’s mouth at a time. Anyone who has ever tried to eat a roll wrapped in seaweed in multiple bites knows what a mess/frustrating experience that is. I have no idea why what seems to be such a skilled set of sushi chefs didn’t see what a problem this could be. I left pretty displeased with the experience.

Steer clear. Was in town to see a friend and we were looking for a sushi bar. This was the only place open on the Sunday before Memorial Day. Service was sub par and the food was pretty bad. My sashimi came out warm and somehow they messed up white rice… My friend felt the same about his sushi. Only redeeming factor was atmosphere.

Best sushi place in the Southeast by far. We have had the best in Atlanta, Birmingham, Tampa, and the Gulf Coast. Make sure you sit at the bar and talk to Nabe. Great secret!

My daughter and I stopped in for lunch recently. We got there right as they opened, but the people were very nice and they were ready for business. To me, this is a sign of a well run restaurant. The specials menu had good choices at a good discount. We ordered a couple of rolls off the special menu and a couple off of the regular menu. All were very good. I am not a fan of Miso soup, so I will leave that to others to comment on. If you don’t mind watching people handling your food, I recommend sitting at the bar and seeing how the chefs work. It is entertaining and they might even pass you a sample or two to try out! The bill was higher than a «normal» lunch, but quality fish is not cheap. Remember, this is not your grocery store sushi-in-a-box.

The best sushi I have ever had. Get the chefs special. Don’t compromise on the dollars and you will be justly rewarded. Nabe is the nicest and best chef. From Miso to Hawaiian spring roll to the variety of sauces and creative rolls. Nabes is hands down my favorite sushi bar in all my travels. So odd for Chattanooga. But I am not kidding.

This is a very cool spot, great location, and a very imaginative menu. The«crab-tapular pumpkin» is my wife’s favorite and because of it we stop here even before checking in the hotel!!!

Wow, so, so, let down and disappointed, I have been coming here for years, always been a pleasant experience. For the last couple months my office has had take out from here probably more than a dozen times. We just took a vote after this experience and I really doubt anyone in my company will be back. My partner and I went in and ate and while waiting ordered over $ 109.00 worth of sushi to go for other employees. It was not that busy, in fact could be the least amount of people I have seen in here, but took us over 45 minutes to get our to go order, enough to make me very late for a meeting. That really didn’t bother me at the time, in fact I bragged to my employee that was with me that it would be worth the wait, enough that we still tipped the waitress 20.00 for two teas and an edamame. We labeled each menu, spent a good 5 minutes explaining it all to the waitress and it was still no where near correct when we got back 6 miles to our office. Not a single one if the four employees I ordered for got what they expected. We called, the lady on the phone was no help, in fact pretty rude, assuming we made the mistake. We hung up in frustration and decided to try and split up what we paid for and eat but most of it was far from edible, of course we had no clue what it was so who knows? I personally ordered one roll, it had my name on it, but was no where near what I ordered… I have eaten the 16.00 Hawaiian roll several times and thought it was worth it but this was horrible. I’ve never eaten microwaved sushi, but I feel like I have now. I think it will be along time before they get another dime from me or any of my employees. So sad, this place used to be my favorite but this food didn’t compete with any $ 10.00 buffet I’ve been to. Feel completely ripped off :-(

Make reservations to sit at the sushi bar in front of Nabe, and order the Chef’s Special. It’s an off menu ticket for Nabe to make whatever he’d like for you. I’ve been going here for years, a couple of times a year and have yet to see him make the same thing. He always starts off light, with a «feeler» dish, and just takes it from there. I love the fact that he’s a native japanese classically trained sushi chef who seems to love his job and food. It’s true, I haven’t been impressed with the dinning room service or food, so make the proper reservation and enjoy the experience.

I’m rating this place on the collection of experiences I’ve had here over a 13 year period. We first tried out Nabe when he was located on Lee Highway, and were impressed with his skill in making not only great sushi, but an entire array of Japanese dishes. We liked him so much, we joined his«chopstick club» and still visit every time we are in town to see friends. It is a little disappointing to see so many sub-par reviews here; this was never our experience, although on one visit, we felt that the rolls had been made larger to «satisfy» people with big appetites, and we would have liked to see this trend reversed. The absolute best you can do here is to let Nabe come up with an «omakase» experience — we told him the price range we wanted to partake in, and he kept presenting us with little dishes and sushi for quite some time. I must say that eating this way is much more enjoyable than ordering 15 rolls and 30 pieces of nigiri, and just totally wearing out the sushi chefs at the bar. I think that the reason that sushi quality in the US suffers so much is that we tend to order the entire meal at one time, which creates a total backup at the sushi counter, and makes the chefs have to rush through their craft. Our last visit to Nabe-san’s place was in 2011 since we moved out of town, and it was every bit as tasty and wonderful as we had when we first tried his sushi — I have a hard time believing that things have really changed much. They were always very nice to our little one, and would frequently send over an appetizer or roll«compliments of the chef» whenever we would eat here. Nabe-san and Nabe-chan are the nicest, most hospitable and considerate people who sincerely want their customers to have an authentic, delicious experience at their establishment, and I certainly look forward to enjoying their sushi once again in the near future!

I was not a fan of this restaurant. I was immediately concerned because there were a ridiculous number of rolls. Too many choices to me shows the restaurant is lacking a solid menu. When the 4 rolls came for my wife and me, I was dissatisfied with all 4. I thought there were excessive sauces on the rolls, and the sauces were not really good either. The rolls were a bit too large, and combined with the ingredients and size, they were difficult to eat. They also did not taste fresh. There were leftovers, which we declined to take back to our hotel. The service was not very good. I will try another restaurant next time.
