Everyone has an opinion and that is what makes life so interesting. Door County does not have a lot of choices for Mexican food. There was actually a time when more Mexican places existed further north. Some of them were pretty good and other places were not so hot. Guess what? They don’t exist anymore. Would you like to know why they do not exist anymore? It is an easy answer. These places did not have staying power because of a number of reasons. The food was mediocre. The service sucked. The staff didn’t know anything about Mexican food. Also, a lot of business owners in Door County intentionally try to sabotage each other instead of pulling together through the Winter months like a proper community. Welcome to a tourist location that sustains itself mainly on only four to five months out of the year. What does Mojo Rosa’s have that these places did not posses? Mojo Rosa’s has staying power and the facts do not lie. It has been operating long enough to gather the title of established in a county that sees so many places open and close because of wide eyed and ignorant owners who think that it is easy to open up a place to eat. You would not believe how many places open up with all of this buzz around it. Then, kerplunk! The place closes for reasons that I mentioned above along with all sorts of additional issues. The owner of Mojo Rosa’s has not only built herself a great Mexican dining experience in Egg Harbor, but she is extremely active in the business community and is one of the most easy to talk to individuals in the town. She also does not have her head buried in the sand. She is constantly travelling to Chicago and Milwaukee in order to keep her finger on the pulse of trends and to educate herself on what it means to be in the service industry. I have always had excellent and attentive service at this location. I eat there regularly and will continue to support this location. I have not even discussed the food! I was immediately greeted by the staff when I walked into the place. The thing that that you have to understand about Door County is that it is a laid back scene for the most part. If you are on vacation and you are stressed out at the notion of walking into a place and not having someone immediately jump on top of you then maybe you should rethink why you are on vacation. This place is chill and attentive at the same time. The bartender had an immediate suggestion for me when I was unsure of what to order. She suggested the fish and veggie tacos and the mojo beans. It was ridiculously delicious. The food came out hot and I did not need to add any sauce or additives to the plates. I have been eating Mexican food my whole life in Chicago and this is the real deal. The owner has researched what makes a good plate and her kitchen staff is on point. She has Mexican American cooks in the back and they are knocking it out. I have read a lot of the reviews of this place on this website and I am convinced that one of two things are happening with those that are writing the entries. The reviews are being written by people who have probably spent their whole life eating Taco Bell and the other reviews are by people who are simply trying to sabotage the owner out of the simple jealousy that they are incapable of doing what she does on a daily basis in this community. It is a cut throat industry in a tourist town and people will do any number of disingenuous things out of jealousy to ruin people. The facts do not lie. This place stays open all year and she also owns Villagios, Pink Bakery and Village Café. You cannot deny facts. People are obviously very supportive of her and these businesses. She is clearly doing something right. There is one thing that I want to add before closing the review. Order the tamale! It is authentic. I have been eating authentic tamales for the larger part of my entire life. Many employees at our company are of Mexican decent and there is never a hungry person in the plant. These beautiful ladies are always bringing in tres leches cake and hand made tamales. I regularly buy 20 – 40 at a time when they decide to make them at home. They bring the tamales in and all you have to do is give them some steam. It is an authentic taste of Mexico and absolute heaven. I know my tamales! The tamale came out to the bar when I ordered it and I felt like I was at home again with my familia. Dios Mio! Mojo Rosa’s caters to the needs of individuals who have actually experienced real Mexican food. If you want Taco Bell then there are plenty of opportunities to eat that crap when you are not on vacation. If you want to complain about the design of the interior then you have that right. I don’t find anything wrong with it. It is inviting and the food is too good to even notice what is on the walls. I’m too busy in a state of food bliss to even notice it. Some people are just in an active state of finding things to complain about. You call that a vacation? Dios Mio! Muy Bien!

We loved this place! It was hard to find, the sign is not very obvious but the GPS brought us back. Thank goodness. They have a Door County cherry margarita to die for! It’s tart and sweet and yummy! I ordered the chimichanga and Hubby ordered his normal steak and cheese tacos. Both were awesome! They passed my «bean test». I had some cheese curds from a local dairy too, spicy! We met this guy next to us, Mike, who works at Harbor Ridge Winery. He invited us to do a wine tasting with him on his day off. It was so fun! He knew the bartender at Mojo Rosas and we had a blast! I told the bartender and Mike that this place rivals the Mexican restaurants in Milwaukee. Give it a go!

Watched a packer game here. Great vibe, great people and good drink prices. Great place to catch a game and a drink.

High expectations from previous reviews. Did not live up. Great waiter brought drinks and kids meals pronto. Adults waited an unreasonable amount of time for meals. Food was fair. nothing to rave about.

Had dinner at this place on a Thursday night. We had a burrito and the whitefish tacos which the waiter said were the highlights on the menu. The food was just okay. As others reported, don’t go here expecting authentic Mexican food. This place is better for appetizers and drinks as it had a huge selection of beers to choose from. It is open late so it’s a great late night spot while in the town.

Recently went to this establishment for some Mexican cuisine with my girlfriend. The theme was not consistent with the bar seeming like an entirely different entity from that of the restaurant. The bar was reminiscent of a typical bar while the restaurant was littered with Mexican chackies. We were the only individuals in the restaurant at the time and they appeared to be training a new, young server who was working there while home from college during the tourist season of Door County. The veteran server supervising the newbie should have caught the rookie mistakes he was making when taking our order, both of which were enchiladas. I ordered the spicier variety while my girlfriend requested the mildest. However, when our order arrived, my girlfriend’s was as spicy as my own and they seemed reluctant to accommodate. Furthermore, considering we were the only ones in the restaurant it shouldn’t take upwards of 45 minutes to get our food. The icing on the cake was that we got our nachos 5 minutes before the food arrived. The food was nothing to write home about but the service was atrocious

The kitchen is open late. For that reason it gets two stars. The food is ridiculously expensive. $ 15 for the worst burrito I’ve ever had. $ 25+ pizzas My wife liked her chicken quite a bit. It’s good for an expensive and mediocre late night bite

Make no mistake, like we did, this is a bar not a Mexican«restaurant». Service was good but the food was very sub-par. The meatballs were so spicy hot I could not finish them. Server said, in a joking manner, that this was what I should expect for eating at a Mexican restaurant. Sorry, but of all the Mex food I have ever had, no chipotle sauce was ever this spicy hot. Even my friend who was born in Mexico was very taken back by the poor quality food. No second chances with this place.

The food was below mediocre: runny chile rellenos and tostadas fried in oil that wasn’t nearly hot enough. Rice and beans were not served with the meal and we had to request tortillas to go with the chile rellenos? We were overcharged: total should have been $ 24 and somehow we were charged $ 33. We were so disgusted with the place at that point that we didn’t even argue it. Service was awful, I went up to the bar to request chips and salsa and a margarita because it had been so long since we saw our server. The only saving grace was that margaritas were only $ 2 today. Yuck. I would never go here again. Please avoid. Wait until you get home to eat Mexican. Door County is not the place for it!

Went there to watch the Brewer game. Nice casual setting. You get an engraved name plate if you complete their beer challenge of 99 unique beers.

Very happy with the food… got a simple beef burrito, wasn’t to keen on paying the 14 bucks for one but it was absolutely worth it. I’m a big guy and I put it away in my tummy and I was full. Service was good for mid day. I’d recommend this place

If I could give zero stars I would. Stopped in for some drinks and food the day before Pumpkin Patch festival. The bartender was probably one of the rudest, snottiest people I have met. One person in our group asked if there was an ATM nearby and he snapped at us that«this isn’t Chicago!!» apparently assuming we were from Illinois???(We’re all from WI, not that it matters) We each got one drink and left without ordering food as he never checked on us once to see how we were doing or if we needed anything. Will not be going back. Absolutely horrible customer service.

Speaking just on the bar experience, Mojo is great. I have been seeing the same bartenders for years and they are awesome. Accommodating and easy to talk to. Drinks are good and well priced. We have had a few pizzas from Mojo and they are always good. They have a pool table, plenty of TV’s, darts, and a jukebox. There is also an outdoor patio. We always find ourselves at Mojo a few times whenever we are in Door County.

To me, this is a confused restaurant. I got mexican food vibes from the margarita signs posted everywhere, but it also tried to be a typical American bar and grill. Really not much table seating(or room for that matter) inside and outside; many more chairs in the bar area. Service was good as our waitress refilled the drinks often and had some good drink suggestions. The burger was cooked right while the fries were a tad soggy. Overall, pretty decent food and good helpings. But, forgo this place if you have a family or want to hear people at your table during busier hours.

This is a bar– please do not go here if you are hungry. It takes a lot for me to turn down Mexican. I have eaten at places with questionable health code ratings because the food was Mexican– I love it that much. I have no idea what this place serves but even in northern WI there is no way this passes as Mexican. The chimichanga was recommended by staff(??why??) and was quite possibly the most disgusting thing I ever tasted. It tasted like some kind of hot pocket microwaved mess that had nothing on it. The rice was mush and tasted nothing like Spanish rice. The beans bland as the can they prob came from. Let me be clear– I have NEVER left mexican food behind. I couldn’t make myself eat this food and I was starving. Plus side– great and fun bar atmosphere. The margaritas were superhero strong. In fact, I can’t even remember what other food was ordered because 1) empty stomach &2) margarita. Which proves my point– even buzzed I couldn’t eat the food…

We had dinner here which was a bad idea, this is more of a bar atmosphere. Good place to get buzzed, play pool, watch a game. Food wasn’t great, maybe we got the wrong things. I had a taco, simple(meat, onion, cilantro) and good… hard to mess up. Also had a chicken enchilada which was served in red sauce I assumed to be salsa… nope…it was marinara sauce. Not sure how y’all roll, but marinara sauce on my enchilada es no frio… is not cool. I also had a beef flauta which was okay, but was doused in nacho cheese sauce. Last I had a tamale, flavorless and dry. Crumbled way too easily. Drinks were good… come here to drink and eat some low grade bar food. When you play pool, try not to hit the people eating at the dinner tables tightly surrounding the billiards… it gets awkward. Positives: Guacamole is good, service too.

I came in here with my friends to watch the pre-season Packer game last week. I thought to myself, «a bar that serves touchdown shots and has many different micro brews available? In.» Sadly, that was not enough to overcome the issues. Lets start with service. It seemed that the restaurant forgot all about the Packer game. There was not nearly enough staff available to take care of all the patrons. Our table of 6 waited about 10 minutes to get our beers. And the poor guys in the kitchen? Well, it seemed that they never worked a rush before. I am not knocking our waitress, she was doing the best she could with what she had, but man. Our bottles were empty for around 10 minutes before we saw her again. But she had most of the place to cover. Then there’s the food. I had a shredded beef chimichanga. Usually, shredded beef, cheese, and a fried tortilla are a win win win. Not so at this place. It was bland bland bland. The shredded beef was dry. It didn’t seem to be marinated in anything and had no flavor. There was a decent amount of cheese and the shell seemed like it was overcooked almost. The rice and beans were passable and were the best thing on my plate. My poor friend had the misfortune of ordering steak fajitas. I feel the best part of fajitas is when they are brought out on a sizzling plate making the whole place smell good. There was no sizzle at all. In fact, his was cold. And bland. And he only received 2 tortillas for his whole plate of food. I suddenly felt like I was the winner. Now the rest of my friends, they all had broasted chicken… Which was actually fairly good. But when a place advertises as a Mexican restaurant they better be able to cook Mexican food. I would give the place one star, but because they have a great beer selection(for the north woods) I am bumping it up one.

Came in on a Tuesday afternoon during the winter. It was one of the few(if not the only) place open. We had the $ 2 taco(pulled beef, pulled chicken, carnitas) and margarita special. The food and drinks were great. The super-friendly bartender gave us some insights and things to check out during our stay in Door County. We told him we were visiting wineries next and he went the extra mile by calling a few of his friends at the nearby wineries to see if they were open.

It’s not often I see an update to a review on Unilocal upgrade the rating, but here I shall… Since I was here a few years ago, I have ventured back several times and have found the objections that I had previously have been remedied. As a result of that my recent experiences have all been pleasant and tasty, which has made me a frequent visitor. Summarizing the positives from my earlier review… Don’t expect this to be a straight-up Mexican restaurant because it doesn’t pretend to be one(there are others in DC that you can try). It’s a very eclectic menu yet what they offer is all very well prepared and the atmosphere is especially comfortable. Their cocktails are good and they have a huge beer selection.

This place was a surprisingly good find while up in Door County for a few days. The food was excellent, especially the veggie tacos(possibly the best veggie tacos I’ve ever had!) Service was excellent, and although I didn’t order anything to drink other than water, their beer and cocktail menu was pretty extensive with what looked to be local brews. I hope this place does well, even during the off season. Thanks for the great meal!
