Probably the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my entire life. Ordered broccoli and beef and potstickers pretty simple order broccoli beef tasted like cow manure also smelled like it as well. potstickers were some weird thick dumpling with this weird meat inside of it that I could not identify. Not to mention they didn’t even give me the pot stickers and I had to go back in and ask for them with a leaking paper bag of broccoli and beef. That was it worst $ 20 I have ever spent in my entire life and I will never go back here nor will I recommend this restaurant to anybody.

This place has good food they make it fresh and you can see the chefs cooking so you know its freshly made and not from chef mike. Its a good place to take the family for Chinese

The staff is pleasant and even though we ordered takeout we did take a peak and the restaurant looked clean. I’d say their food is average, almost too greasy. From my order, I’d say my favorite were the pot stickers. They were huge and great flavor. Nothing else is worth a second visit.

I love, love, love the egg foo young. It is not on the menu, but it’s worth asking for. I eat here every time I’m in town.

This place is my new favorite Chinese restaurant in the PDX area. I’ve been there to dine in and take out and it was fantastic both times. I’m sold!

Quick service. Huge portions(enough to take home for a large lunch the next day). We continue to come back anytime we want Chinese food

It’s our favorite Chinese place around town. We haven’t had a bad dish yet, all the appetizers and entrees that we’ve had are excellent. They lose a star for the dining in experience. The décor is dated. There is a halfway separated area where they seem to always have the staff’s family eating or hanging out in and the server is a little too attentive for my comfort… if someone staring at your back and refilling water every time you take a sip or trying to take your plates before you’re empty creeps you out then get your food to go.

Hands down the best Chinese food I have had in the Gresham area, and the fried rice is actually the best I have had in the whole greater Portland area(Including Vancouver) One thing I would say is there are some dishes that are a little too greasy, but still good. Tucked away in a corner of a strip mall and not the best looking inside aesthetically but like Stephen K. said don’t let it put you off! I would definitely recommend this place!

This was my first visit here and I was very disappointed with the Butterfly Shrimp appetizer. They are not butterfly shrimp! Shrimp are sliced lengthwise, not all the way through, then laid flat and breaded and fried in a flat medallion shape. Szechuan Kitchen may have sliced these shrimp lengthwise in half but then each half was breaded and fried so that each shrimp makes two«butterfly shrimp.» The shrimp appeared clean and deveined, BUT each«shrimp» was about 80 percent fried batter and 20 percent shrimp. These things are huge. When you first see them, you think you’re getting giant prawns; but that’s not the case at all. They’re medium sized prawns at best. I also had potstickers, which they advertise as hand made, and these were very good. Bigger than average, chewy rather than crisp. And they’re not stingy with the sauces here. They gave me 2 little tubs of sweet & sour sauce, one tub of potsticker sauce, a small tub of some kind of hot oil, a packet of soy sauce and a packet of hot mustard. When I told the happy cheerful guy at the register that I liked hot mustard a lot, he threw in five more packs. Two fortune cookies were also included. I almost want to give this place a lower rating because of the 80 percent batter shrimp, but I’m going to try some of their entrees which I suspect will be very good based on other reviews. I’ll never get the butterfly shrimp again, however. Don’t get them unless you like deep fried batter.

We had the orange chicken and bbq pork fried rice, and both were delicious. The portion sizes were HUGE and also included steamed rice on the side. The service was great; the waitress was friendly and very patient with us when we ordered, and the food came out quickly. I would definitely recommend this place as the go to Chinese restaurant in the Gresham area!

I don’t understand how this place has a 4 star average!!! Ate here today and the food was down right BAD. Everything was over done — over breaded, over salted(probably copious amounts of MSG) and over greasy. Started with the crazy salty egg flower soup, tasty at first but mid way through I needed a refill on my water just to counter act the saltiness. Spring rolls were next which looked nicely browned & crispy but the grease dripping down my fingers and chin as I bit into one was waaay too much. Next, very strange potstickers with a breading so thick it was more like eating a thick, greasy finger sandwich. I had the Kung Pao chicken & my lunch companion had the Orange chicken. Both dishes were deep fried with thickly battered pieces of all dark meat. Save for the different sauces which were majorly lacking in flavor, the two dishes were basically the same, tasting like American fried chicken bits covered in weak sauce. This is all to say nothing of the, shall we say«after effects» about 45 minutes later if you get my drift. I’m sorry fellow Unilocalers who love this place, but I must vehemently disagree with the 4 star average and hope I can save someone else from a bad experience by suggesting you run, not walk in the opposite direction of this place!

Szechuan Open Kitchen is very good! Don’t let the run-down dining room put you off, the food is better than most. Particularly noteworthy is the General Tsao’s chicken, and the egg flower soup. My team comes here a few times a year for lunch, and none of us have ever had anything that hasn’t been good. The kitchen also isn’t exactly«open»; there are windows separating the kitchen from the dining room. There is a nice saltwater fish tank in the dining room as well, so if you bring kids who easily get bored, they’ll have something to look at.

Hot and sour soup and the general tsoas chicken very good. Potstickers however, have terribly terribly breading. I will return to try out other dishes.

Solid lunch specials at a reasonable price. Includes rice and soup(hot and sour or egg drop). I usually go with the Orange Beef which includes thin slices of beef lightly breaded and fried with a sweet and savory orange sauce. The beef still maintains it’s crispiness despite the sauce and is just delicious. Friendly service with a nice fish tank to boost!

This is our go-to Chinese food in Gresham. The service is good. The food is tasty. Pretty typical Chinese-American. Lots of breaded-and-fried meats with sugary sauces, and some vegetables fried up in oil to add some color. Start off with some Hot Sour soup before indulging. They lose one star for being kind of a drab place. The décor is straight out of the 80s. But it could be worse.

From my experience, I would’ve given this restaurant only one star. However, my friends had no issues. Portion size: Portion sizes were great! My friends and I ordered a little over $ 100 worth of take out for dinner and there was plenty to serve all 7 of us and a ton of leftovers Taste: I’ve eaten a lot of Chinese food over the years and I have no complaints in regard to taste. However, the wrap used for the potstickers we ordered was a little thick so it was a little undercooked and kind of mushy. Experience: The reason why my rating is so low is because I had an allergic reaction to all of the MSG in the food. I couldn’t keep it down, and my lip was extremely swollen after consuming one plate. I understand that most Chinese restaurants use MSG but I have never had an experience that terrible. The rest of my friends had no issues, though, so maybe it was just me and my experience. Personally, I’ll probably never eat here again because the allergic reaction traumatized me, but I wouldn’t let this review scare you. It could’ve just been an unlucky day for me.

I finally tried Szechuan Open Kitchen for lunch today. My friends told me it is one of their favorite restaurants. I was not disappointed. First of all… yes they do have the best hot & sour soup. It has all of the usual ingredients, but it has a different flavor from the thin slices of beef, making it much richer and tastier than everybody else’s. I ordered chicken and shrimp Hunan style. Big thin pieces of white chicken, 5 or 6 large shrimp, carrots, 2 kinds of mushrooms, bamboo shoots, onions, pea pods in a slightly sweet thickened brown sauce. It comes with white rice, but for $ 1.50 more I opted for fried. The fried rice would have been just meh, because it was only rice and soy sauce with a very skimpy smidge of scrambled egg,(no peas, carrots or meat) but if you put some of the sweet brown sauce from the dish with it, it became very flavorful. I also think that this is the«side» fried rice, and if you order a fried rice entrée, it will have more«stuff» in it. I also tried the fried oyster appetizers. Perfectly cooked! Crunchy on the outside, but not over cooked oysters on the inside. This can be a problem in most(even seafood) restaurants One curiosity. I’m pretty sure my menu item was marked with a chili pepper indicating hot & spicy, yet my entrée contained absolutely 0 heat. Overall, a very pleasant dining experience. I will be back to try other menu items

I’ve tried a few Chinese spots in my year living in the Portland area, and this was by far my best experience so far. Very large portions left us with a few meals, but the flavor was on the bland side for what I really like. The decorations of the restaurant leave something to be desired, but the open window to look into the kitchen is pretty cool. It was very clean inside. The service was okay, but not great. But this is the best review I’ve been able to leave for Chinese since I’ve been here.
