I was CRAVING hand pulled noodles for some reason so decided to try here. The noodles are authentic — there’s literally a man in the kitchen making hand pulled noodles. They have so many different options of noodles that when I asked to see pictures to help me decide, the waitress pointed at the back wall(see picture). I would want to come back to try all of them… however, I wish they had better beef. It was so chewy and hard– it needs to be more tender. So much potential if they just improve their beef. So now I need to find a place with authentic hand pulled noodles and good beef!

The noodles were undercooked and the prices were pretty steep for what we ordered. Regardless, it was an interesting experience being able to watch the noodles being made, though it made me question the hygiene over and over again. Service, however, was on point. The waitress was really sweet! I felt bad for not enjoying our food. Maybe it was because I didn’t order the beef noodle soup that everyone else in the restaurant ordered. I can definitely get better quality food within minutes of this place, so I don’t think I would be back.

I love love loveee this place! On the menu, there is a list of a variety of noodle sizes and 2 different kind of noodles: flat like Chow Fun & round like Bun Bo Hue. I suggest getting the Medium Round noodle, because it’s not that big and not that small. There’s a variety of soups as well, or you can get Chow Mein.

i feel like this place isn’t as good as i remember it being before. soup is really MSG-y. service is pretty much what you expect at an authentic chinese place — a bit rude, but seemingly unintentional. i always get niu rou mian with medium flat noodles. my mom got chow mein and it was really gross.

I’ve lived in hacienda hts for many many years and I’ve always seen this place but never thought to try it till now. Those noodles are so good! If you’re hungry and trying to figure out what to eat. You gotta try this place! I’m going to order a dish and ask them to leave the noodles on the side so I can use them for a pasta dish

Environment — just an okay place Food — Great hand-made noodles This restaurant has hand-made noodles. I personally love their noodles. Their house special noodle is tasty. First, you can choose size of noodles, which is a key factor. The size of noodle may affect how you enjoy the noodle because of the portion of noodle and soup. The soup is also good. Their side dishes are not recommended because of price. I have know idea why do their charge unreasonable price for side dishes. Moreover, They open at 11:00, but the noodle is ready 30 minutes after. I had almost 30 min wait, and the waitress didn’t notify and care.

The noodles are fresh and taste great! I like how you can choose the size and style of the noodles. The onion/scallion pancakes are decent. It just depends on how they make it that day since it can be too doughy and thick. My go-to dish is really the beef noodle soup. It is cash-only but there’s ATM around. Parking can get crowded in the plaza as well. My only qualm is just the customer service. We do get seated quickly and get our orders taken quickly but after the food arrives, we tend to get ignored even when we want to pay for the bill.

I’ve been coming to Malan ever since it opened. It was an excellent place when it opened, and would stay busy all year long. After a couple years the quality went downhill, and the prices went up. Recently the quality is good again, but the prices went up again. The same beef soup that used to be $ 9 is now $ 12. Anyways, the hand pulled noodles are some of the greatest in the SGV. I recommend the triangle noodles.

First of all, this place has one of the best hand pulled noodles I have had in the 626. The texture is perfect, noodles are perfectly cooked al dente and chewy, and you know they are fresh because you can see someone pulling noodles in the back. They have several sizes and shapes for their noodles as well so you can get whatever sizeyou prefer. I shared the noodles with brown sauce and beef noodle soup with a friend. Delicious, especially the beef broth because the fat seemed to be skimmed off the top. But why the loss of stars? First of all, the price. I know good food always costs more, but they charge just over $ 10 for a regular sized beef noodle soup which is pretty steep. All other places charge 7 – 8, even for freshly made noodles. The shop itself is pretty much a hole in the wall and is not particularly well decorated or clean. The cups of water also came in little styrofoam cups that constantly needed refilling. In short, come here for the food only… but be aware that it costs more than other chinese noodle joints.

Cash only… :(Typical, I guess. Prices seemed $ 1 – 2 higher than they should have been. About the only draw to this place is that they make the noodles by hand and you can order them in several different shapes /sizes. Fresh noodles have such a different taste and texture, it’s pleasantly noticeable. The Malan Beef Soup was good, but bland. The broth tasted very clean(probably no MSG). I would order it again if I was feeling sick and wanted something simple, but otherwise was not that exciting. Spicy noodles with pork — Was pretty oily. ~$ 10 for onions, peppers, pork and noodles? I would have felt better about it if it were a few dollars cheaper. Overall — go for the fresh noodles, it’s fun to watch them being made. Everything else leaves a lot to be desired.

A self-professed foodie swore this place had the most amazing handmade noodles. «The texture is just amazing,» she squealed, clasping her hands together as she looked up to the sky with starry eyes. «You get the perfect combination of thickness and elasticity!» I was sold. Not knowing this woman too well, however, I decided to carry out due diligence by confirming her testimony on Unilocal. Overwhelmed by the rave reviews online, I decided to endure the drive all the way out to Hacienda Heights. As I sat in traffic, I told myself it was worth it. I was, after all, on a quest for the best hand-pulled noodles! Malan Noodles, like so many Chinese restaurants, sits in a nondescript, suburban strip mall. You could easily pass by without even knowing. Thank goodness for Waze. I arrived at 2:30pm, just half an hour before closing. Staff members were having lunch while keeping a watchful eye over the 2 tables of patrons still eating. A young waitress stood up and told me to sit anywhere as she walked over to bring me a menu. To my surprise, service was friendly, and the restroom was relatively clean.(Anyone who frequents authentic Chinese restaurants knows to expect otherwise!) I ordered the large, flat, wide noodles with brown sauce(jia jiang) which arrived within minutes. With great anticipation, I mixed the sauce, fresh cucumber slivers and noodles. Oh, I was in for a real treat! To my huge disappointment, however, the noodles were a bit overcooked. Where was the elasticity? The firmness? In fact, they were slightly mushy! Furthermore, the only flavor I could perceive from the sauce was just plain SALT. There was no other taste. No complexity, no dimension in flavor. The taste was rather«flat.» My meal wasn’t terrible. It was just okay but certainly not worth the long drive, my time, the calories or the carbs. I’d like to think I ordered the wrong thing or that I simply went at a bad time, towards the end of the lunch shift. But I’ll never know as I’ll never bother again battling traffic for an hour just to find out. Sigh. I’m being generous with a 3-star rating.

Was pretty impressed with this place coming in with low expectations. The Malan Beef Soup Noodle with large round noodles(10.99) was the cleanest Beef Noodle soup I’ve had. All the fat was skimmed off making for a clean dish. Had the belt sized flat noodles with the Noodle Brown Sauce(10.99) was yummy, but didn’t have enough kick for my boyfriend. Scallion Chinese Pan cakes(5.99) was standard. Considering how cheap these are to make, should be $ 4 really. Checken Cold Noodle(9.99) wasn’t very memorable. Spinach with Ginger Sauce(4.99) was a the fiber to our lives. Small portion, but tasty. $ 13.50 per person for a group of 4 and we were pretty satisfied. Good chinese noodle spot for the area with clean environment! Glad we tried it!

It is a good place if you are Chinese noodle foodies. They prepared noodle in Chinese traditional way that you actually can see it when you eating. Definitely will come back here again.

Ok. I saw this place on a LA food account on weibo, thinking it’s gonna be so authentic and everything. The only reason this place gets a 2 star is because their noodle is actually great. Since it’s hand made and they let you customize it to be extra, extra flat. I can’t begin to tell you how horrible my beef noodle experience went. The meat was so bad. It completely tasted like rubber. The stringy parts(muscles) of the beef are supposed to separate. It didn’t. So I’m just getting cubed chunks of rubber that’s hard to chew and completely flavorless. What is this. So disappointed since the Weibo account talked about this place is authentically Lanzhou. Nope.

Meh. Soup was lukewarm and the noodles are not evenly rolled. The real Lanzhou noodle was piping hot and greasy. Tasted diff than this version. Kinda bland. Place didn’t have the ac on and no blinds. Was eating in the blinding sun Ray.

The early years of my life was spent in Lanzhou, China, home of Malan hand piled noodles. This is the only place that comes close to the real thing in China. The noodle soup is known to be clear broth, thinly sliced daikon and beef slices with a dash of chopped chives. To top it off, you need to put a little bit of vinegar and some chilly oil. This place has exactly that! For those of you who are used to eating beef noodle with dark brown soup, this is not the same type so don’t compare to those soy sauce based braised beef noodle. This type beef noodle soup is the stable of the Muslim people in China, I know because I have lived there before. As much as I love this place and it reminds me of my childhood days, the noodle chef have been a bit inconsistency with the size and the width of the noodle. The noodles tend me to on the thicker side, you should order one size smaller than the photo portrays. One other thing I love is they have this cold appetizer called Malan cold starchy, it’s really good and a must try! It’s a true local favorite in northwest China!!!

Heard of the place like 6 years ago and I finally got the chance to try it. The noodle is actually really good. I love it. You can also see the people who are actually making it, using the traditional Chinese way. And the soup is good, taste is good. And they offer other appetizer too.

I usually write reviews for two reasons and two reasons only. Really delicious or really gross. This restaurant from what I’ve been told has been open for years and years and the flavor is really as it is advertised. Give it a try next time you want a bowl of delicious noodles. Cash Only.

NOODLESNOODLESNOODLESNOODLES… This really is my Graceland. So many different types to choose from for so many different occasions? Whether it’s soup or just your plain dry noodles there is a type of noodle for every occasion. I like my noodles how I like my calves. THETHICKERTHEBETTER.(HIJESSICA Y.) If you were to go for any style of noodles, I recommend their«Belt» style noodles. If you can’t read Chinese, just tell the waitress or show them the picture I put up. Undeniably, you won’t go wrong. $ 3 for extra noodles which is well worth it… The texture is so amazing and their sauce/soup is excellent. I got their«Fried Sauce Noodles» A.K.A. Zha Jiang Mian A.K.A. I’m too lazy to type the Chinese but it was AMAAAAAZINGBRO… I’m definitely coming back here again… Service: Sucks balls. Just know that any time you go to an Asian restaurant, particularly Chinese the service will be crappy. *CASHONLY* Word to your mother. JY
