Not good by any stretch of the imagination. One star for nostalgia as the elderly crowd and old school waitresses have their charm. The room is like a low-ceilinged rec room in your formerly cool Uncle’s house. The food is over cooked and utterly devoid of flavor. The lobster was dry as paper. The steak could have been boiled for all the crusty char it had. The mashed potatoes had no butter, no dairy no seasoning. Tasted like water. Abysmal is the best descriptor for this sad destination. If it ever had a heyday– that ship has long since sailed.

My boyfriend and I just finished eating here. The food was great, the service was not. We left with an overwhelming feeling that we were not treated well because we were much younger than the rest of the clientele. Our service was slower and our salad was noticeably smaller and pre plated while other tables got one large bowl of salad that was chopped and served at their table. We got no bread, my boyfriends prime rib was a noticeably poorer cut of meat, and it took almost 15 minutes to place a drink order. The owner went around and spoke to almost every table except for ours. Lastly, my potato was burnt and inedible. We did enjoy the food we just experienced a noticeable difference in the service we received. I would also like to mention this is my first Unilocal review but I felt strongly enough to write about our experience here tonight.

I am proud to say I have been coming here for 24 years. The coleslaw is the best, the Gorgonzola salad is original, made in front of you and is one of a kind. The restaurant itself is a historic Westchester landmark adorned with celebratory photo’s of past years and of pictures of those in popular entertainment and sport who had an impact on our lives since the 1920’s. The fresh seafood selection is top notch and the meatloaf & knockwurst/bratwurst is a hidden gem and is overlooked way to much. If you are looking for an upper east-side atmosphere keep walking, you will be disappointed, this isn’t the ues, nor is it for the nose in the air Scarsdale crowd. Gus’s is about family and friends enjoying home cooked seafood and comfort food with hot rolls!

I love Gus’s so much, destpite it being a fish place(and the fish is great to). I love the Burgers and Chicken parm which are amazing. Also the staff is extremely nice, the owner comes around to every table and greets you. This is a must have if you are in Westchester.

WOW! Got in to this Spectacular Restaurant without a reservation & we may have waited a total of 10 minutes. We were @ the Bar having a couple of Cocktail & the Wonderful Hostess came over to Us & told Us our Table was ready. We were Escorted to the Table & We were Greeted by a Awesome Waitress who saw that We already had Refreshments, she proceeded to give us the Menus & tell about their Specials. Everything was Great & I’ll definitely go back & Recommend it to all my Friends.

Friendly faces when you first walk in. The restaurant was crowded, but we were seated promptly. The Gorgonzola salad is very yummy! A must have. I had the crabmeat stuffed shrimp(side of brown rice and spinach) and it was very good. The side of coleslaw was awesome. Owner walks around and was checking in on customers, which was nice to see.

I have been going to Gus’ for over 25 years. Had a very upsetting experience last night. After waiting for over 1 hour for a booth, the hostess gives the booth to a couple who arrived after us. It is a first come first serve basis. Complained to owner, about situation, he agreed we were the next people to be seated. We now waited at least another 30 minutes for a booth to open up. Ernie, the owner Did Not offer to buy us a drink, after waiting all this time, knowing the hostess had messed up. Poor customer service. Will not be going back.

My wife and I just finished eating here, and without question Gus’s is one of the worst restaurants I have had the displeasure of patronizing. After a 45 minute wait(though the hostess said it would only be 20), we finally sat down for dinner. For the record I tried to make a reservation, but was told that they do not take reservations(red flag). I still had high hopes for the dinner considering how long the wait was, and also considering that on average the entrees cost $ 30 each. However, I was sorely disappointed. The lobster bisque and New England clam chowder were basically bowls of cream with no substance or flavor. The«Maryland» crab cakes were clearly the kind you buy in the frozen food aisle at the supermarket, and tasted like garbage. All sides were undoubtedly also bought in the frozen food section. Nothing was fresh and nothing tasted good. It was a complete waste of money and my time. Seriously, and I cannot stress this enough, DONOTEATHERE. If anyone else had a different experience, then it’s because you either have no tongue in your mouth or you walked into a different restaurant.

The food is just edible. The service isn’t terrible. Our waitress was pleasant but never came back after the food was served. There is a diner the next town over that is better. I had chicken Parmesan(one small piece), the size of a good hero. My wife had a very small order of steamers(thought it was an appetizer size). She had a flat diet coke. That’s it, $ 65. By the way the bread was a big stale kaiser roll. WAY over priced!

I’m sorry Unilocalers. .I’m just not getting the praise here??? They serve hard rolls with rock hard butter… turn off #1. My steamers were so loaded with sand and small pieces of shell, I thought I lost a few teeth. The baked clams were undercooked and underwhelming. The ambiance was like I stepped back into the 1970s with seals n croft & America songs playing(that was enjoyable). Plenty of full tables at 10pm so this is definitely a popular spot… but I’m still trying to understand why? The entire staff was pleasant and efficient. Not sure if I will visit again. Pricey for what you get.

There’s nothing better than going to Gus’ on a Friday night after a long week of work. The bartenders are the best on the planet so you know you’ll start with a great cocktail. Everyone is friendly and eager to make you feel at home(think Cheers). The food is delicious — especially the lobster and salad. The bread may look like an ordinary Kaiser roll, but it’s always hot and tasty with the butter. Gus’ isn’t fancy, but the food is amazing. It’s not exactly cheap, but where can you find a cheap lobster or other seafood in Westchester. I highly recommend it.

Gus’s is an institution. I frequent Franklin Park almost every week. This place has been around for generations and for good reason. It is your classic Northeastern seafood restaurant. I can’t say enough about the family that runs it because they put their heart and souls into making this a friendly and inviting neighborhood eatery. I have always heard great things about the non-seafood options, but with so many delicious dishes from the ocean I haven’t seized the opportunity to try the chicken parm or the burgers. My go to is the broiled scrod, which is simply fantastic. Don’t expect fancy sauces or exotic seasoning. They let the freshness of the fish speak for itself. The crab cakes are my grandfathers favorite so give them a try. And as another reviewer mentioned the coleslaw is damn good! The lobster is a great choice, but dont be a glutton, the 1 ½ to 2 lb-ers are always the most succulent. And for the guy who couldnt find the specials, they are on a chalkboard by the front door. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try, but respect the fact that this place is a local tradition and enjoy it for that as well as the delicious menu!!! Oh and if you get a chance check out the attached market next door– everything is high quality and super fresh~

Old school spot. Bump elbows with table next to you unless your lucky enough to get a booth. Drinks are strong(we don’t mind) The coleslaw is awesome! The kaiser rolls and ice cold butter are nice touch to the casual feel, along with paper placemats. Don’t come here for fancy, come for fresh fish, simply done and leave happy. Slightly over priced entrees I’d say

OMG!!! Even though it is known for its great seafood… Try the Amazing Chicken Parmigiana with the fresh mozzarella… You will never want it from anywhere else but here… My fiancé won’t make it at home anymore … She will only eat here for Chicken Parmigiana

So disappointed… after hearing rave reviews and how great it was, reading in Westchester magazine, I really wasn’t impressed. The waitress was nice, recommended the gorgonzola salad to start, it was sub par as far as salads are concerned, somewhat bland with minimal ingredients. Same with the fish, both my husband and I ordered… It was very pricey, service was slow and we both ordered a beer(the glasses were chilled, but definitely not regular serving size which was strange.) We were never asked if we wanted a second round… A plus is the great outdoor patio area with live music in the summer. Perhaps we will go again for drinks(non-beer) and live entertainment. Really nice older male bartender.

It’s our family favorite! Everything is cooked to perfection. One of the waitresses is super women. She won in her age group in the NYC marathon years ago, she speaks Italian, and she cooks some of the food served there. I wonder if she sleeps at night. My family goes there often and we love it. They are really nice there. They have great service.

What a disappointment. After reading an article in Westchester magazine, I was excited to try a «new» seafood restaurant. Not what I expected by a long shot. Very overpriced, bland food with a wild range of portion sizes that had no relation to cost. Started with a Gus’ salad with Gorgonzola on the side: $ 8 for a few pieces of chopped up iceberg lettuce, with some pre-packaged, tasteless Gorgonzola crumbles were not an auspicious start. The dinner roll looked like a bad deli roll, and tasted like it too. My husband’s dish was tepid, my daughter’s pasta was very light on the sauce and basically tasteless, and my steamers were ok at best. The wait staff was charming, but inattentive, except for bringing us water, and when we asked for the check, it took over 10 minutes for someone to being it. And then it was topped off by other patrons noisily greeting each other right at our table, and not concerned about personal space. We most definitely will not be going back to this disappointing place. This«find» should have stayed lost.

Vastly over rated and overhyped. Tried this based on a recommendation in Westchester Mag, we’ll never take their advice again. Food was bland and mediocre, service friendly but otherwise very fair, and the prices were very high relative what we received. Most food needed seasoning, the french fried were truly pathetic, portions were unexpectedly small. One interesting note: Westchester Mag touts the lobster roll as being excellent and having little mayo. The staff said it was heavy mayo. We didn’t order it and based on what we saw glad we didn’t.

We go to Guss’s at least once a month and enjoy sitting outside in the summer months, especially when they have music(I think on Thursday’s). Some of our favorites are the salad(the dressing is great) and their home made coleslaw… the chopped stuff clams have clams!(and not just stuffing like some places) and we normally get the baked stuffed sole with crabmeat and another seafood or pasta dish. Very friendly staff and the prices are good…
