Mellow Mushroom

In the past I have given Mellow Mushroom 5 stars. Today, I am giving 4 stars which I will explain in just a moment. First of all, the service was excellent as always. The place was clean, service was timely and the food we had there during the visit was fantastic. We also placed a to-​go order in addition to dining in. The to-​go order contained 2 pizzas and a hoagie. The reason for only four stars this time is that the crust on both pizzas was very over done. They weren’t burnt but they were as close as you could get without burning. The hoagie was great. Anyone can have an off day or less than perfect. We are still happy campers and will be back: D

Let me start off by saying that we went because it was my birthday. They made a small mistake on the pizza I ordered and instead of just saying we have to wait on a new pizza, they gave us the messed up pizza, a brand new pizza, didn’t charge us for either pizza and upgraded my free birthday dessert to any dessert I wanted on the menu, free of charge. This was super nice. I appreciate all that they did to make it right and will be going back again.

Had a very enjoyable lunch with family at the Hickory Mellow Mushroom. We had Parmesan pretzels with beer cheese, Greek salad and a half Maui Wowie/​half Mighty Meaty pizza. The food was delicious, but our service was perfect. Our server, Aloha, anticipated our needs and took care of us.

Always a pleasure dining at this restaurant. Wait staff attentive and love the food! Service isn’t always fast when it is busy so be prepared to wait a bit for meal but it is worth it! It’s our go to place when we want an easy dinner night!

This is my third visit, first to the Hickory location. Great staff, even on a crowded Saturday night.

Very good Sunday lunch! We were passing through Hickory and stopped for lunch. Good food and very pleasant service. Quick off and back onto I-​40. House calzone was delicious, a lot of food but I had little trouble finishing it off. Partner enjoyed the sweet/​spicy wings. Will likely go again next time through.

Love going here. Great selection of beer on tap. I always go when I have plenty of time because the wait for food seems like forever. The beer club was cool but I heard they got rid of it.

Mother’s Day brunch with a table of seven is every waitress’s nightmare, but we had a great waitress who even took our picture :)
This Mellow Mushroom is located off of 40, and has a big selection of beer on tap (if you sit at bar, they will allow you to sample one or two), outside dining, the food is good but we have been there enough times that we know what we like.
1. Appetizer meatballs: it’s three huge meatballs that are really tasty but ask for extra sauce because they only put it on top of the meatballs and you may want some for dipping.
2. Cheeseburger Pizza: Honestly I rarely eat meat but this pizza is different and tasty but ask for them to top it with lettuce, pickles and tomatoes. it is like a Big Mac but better because you can share. I think they charge extra for the topping but its worth it.
3. House Special Pizza: Also a meat lovers delight but it is really good and worth the money. Ask for extra sauce for dipping.
4. Greek salad: it is a medley of flavors and you can easily share it with two or even three people.
****** I have had «just good» items here before but based on this dining experience and the items we had I would give it five stars.

I had a late lunch here today. Food is always good however I watched several time kitchen help come from the kitchen go smoke and come back in and go back to work without washing hands. Also they allow people in the kitchen that is not on duty. It seems to me this is more of a hangout rather than a business. Also along the mushrooms in the window there is dust and cobwebs all around. I sure hope the kitchen is cleaner than the dinning area

We are from Prince George Virginia and happen to be staying at the red roof Inn right behind the mellow mushroom. We ordered take out from the mellow. My husband had a pepperoni and feta pizza and I ordered the white Greek pizza and hummus. My husband said his pizza was decent but nothing to brag about. My white pizza was just okay. The crust was quite doughy and thick which in my opinion, took away from the quality of the pizza. The hummus got raging reviews and I don’t understand why. The only assumption I can make is, that people haven’t tasted true hummus. I was pretty thick and had a rather bland flavor. I would not eat here again.

Go on a day when Becky the balloon lady is there and you won’t regret it!

Mellow Mushroom is a favorite of mine any city I go to. This one in Hickory has always been good for me. I’ve been several times, and am not disappointed. At times the service can be slow, but the wait staff are always friendly. I do appreciate the open kitchen and open floor plan. The beer selection is always nice, to include a number of local brews that are always my first go-​tos for trying something new. The pizza is always amazing. Definitely a top recommendation for pizza and beer in Hickory!

The food is nothing short of magnificent! Tonight I thoroughly enjoyed a $ 4 beer flight, all flights are $ 4 and all drafts under 7% alcohol are $ 3 on Wednesday’s. Food wise I had the mushroom soup which had phenomenal flavors of red wine and was topped with sautéed mushrooms and scallions. I highly recommend it. Also on the table was their delicious cheesy bread with robust marinara. The convenience of being able to split our medium pizza into the two specialties my boyfriend and I craved was definitely a plus! The staff is very friendly and welcoming. We plan a trip to Mellow Mushroom any time we are around :).

I opened this mellow mushroom– as in, I was trained by corporate here way back when. This place is still absolutely outstanding! Great beer selection and great menu.

I really like the Mellow Mushroom. Each Mellow Mushroom experience is a bit different than the next as all of their restaurants are unique. I’ve had the Holy Shittake pizza here a couple of times now and it has been good every time. I have never tried the sandwhixhes here but I have heard great things about them. They also serve local craft beers.

I usually visit this Mellow Mushroom when I’m in town visiting friends. I love the fun décor and open spaciousness of the restaurant. The craft pizzas are about as good as it gets when it comes to a pizza joint.
The topping combinations are as unique as the name assigned to the pizza such as the Kosmic Karma and Thai Dye. The ingredients always taste fresh and they don’t skimp on toppings or cheese. Even the personal size pizza is large enough that I have left overs to take home.
Each location orders beers from local breweries so it is really nice to try a local NC beer when I’m at this location. I don’t recall the name but they have a really nice strawberry blonde beer which is local to NC.
Unique craft pizzas and local craft beers. Perfect combo and such a nice change from the normal boring routine.

We were looking for a place to eat and the reviews were pretty good so we decided to try this place. Right off the bat, the place has a fun vibe to it. Our waitress, Sarah, was welcoming and extremely friendly. She had no problem answering our questions of items on the menu and giving suggestions. We waited a little bit for our food, but it was so worth it.
Our pizzas came out and looked amazing. Once we took our first bites we could not get over how amazing the pizza was. Our pizzas were hot and tasted really good and fresh. The crust is amazing. It is a thin crust base and a thicker crust at the top. The crust was chewy, soft, and had a great flavor. Ask for extra garlic butter to dip it in. Trust me that is one of the best parts.
The restaurant is very clean as are the bathrooms.
This is a little higher priced for a pizza place depending on what you get, but for us it was very worth it. We are already talking about returning.

This restaurant has a fun 60s industrial vibe. The pizza is always amazing, the service is good and the bathrooms are clean.

Remains my goto place for the good beer and pizza selection. When combined this place is a standout.
What would make this place better is if management could do something about the noise level.
Also, make the beer club better by upgrading to:
–Make it nationwide
–Allow for more than one rotation to 100 a la Flying Saucer
–More pint nights
