My husband and I went for dinner after we heard from friends that it was good and thought we would give it a try since we are all about supporting local businesses in our neighborhood. Big mistake! The service, although friendly, was horrible! We were there for over an hour and ended up leaving because we had to be somewhere. We didn’t get to try the food and will probably not go back… very disappointing!

Coming from a major sandwich critic. not sure why it took me so long to come here considering I live 20 seconds down the road. Anyways I’m SO happy I finally did. Just finished a turkey sandwich and seriously fell in love. I love love love sandwiches & now I have to try them all after this first one. Great environment and super friendly staff. Made me feel like I was a regular already lol! Anyways to all my fellow Jamulians if you haven’t tried this place your missing out. Rather then going into rancho for some food go down the street to this bakery! Fits perfectly into our little town and makes me not miss having filippis at this location. Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu!!!

When I walked into this place… I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone… or in a weird Alfred Hitchcock episode. Hmmm…just a little weird feeling when you walk in… Well. first of all. the place was EMPTY around 2pm on a Saturday… me and my hubby thought about running for the hills when we noticed this, but we decided to stay… My husband and I ordered a few sandwiches which were decent… a young guy served the food to us. he was nice, but inexperienced, but at least he was friendly enough… the menu is a bit odd. pizza, bakery items,(large portions, but didn’t look too good) and American Breakfast lunch fare. It was a cold and sterile environment and it just didn’t feel right in there… but I suppose if you’re hungry and you’re in the area, you could swing by for a quick bite… I won’t be going back though… LOL

I was super excited when this place opened, but I have been there three times, was disappointed twice, and the third time I was seated and ignored so I left. I was the only one in the restaurant. I would go back if the servers did not act like I was interrupting their day. ..

Stopped in today while our car was being worked on at Rancho Jamul Auto(Dave loaned us his car — who DOES that??). Wonderful atmosphere, good coffee, bomb breakfast sandwich. And fun waitress/hostess! Have already decided to go back tomorrow for Sunday brunch after church.

I love this place, and wish it was still open for breakfast during the week… super great owner/operator. My wife has been for lunch and loved it. If you’re in the area and they’re open you have to try it! Support local business and enjoy a great meal or cup of coffee.

Unexpectedly terrific. I was in Jamul for some hiking. I wanted to grab some sandwiches and there is only one strip mall in Jamul. Do I go to Subway or this place I’ve never heard of? Luckily, I was feeling daring as this place had great sandwiches and some of the best side dishes. This place would compare favorably against most of the best sandwich places in San Diego. If you ever happen to be in Jamul(intentionally or because of a GPS mistake), you should try this place.

The $ 5.00 burger is now $ 5.39. They apparently decided to charge tax when before the tax was included. This was done without notice. Also, if you eat the burger at their place you are now charged a dollar service charge. Also done without notice. With the increased fees I’ve noticed the food preparation is taking longer and longer. This may be to justify the dollar service fee since they must be working longer to get the burger to room temperature before it is served. They also now have a sign indicating they are no longer open for breakfast during the week. If you eat there they charge sales tax on the aforementioned«service fee», as well. Not legal, but I suppose it is a way to increase needed revenue. They seem to be down to one wait person, but that is ok since lately I haven’t seen more than a couple of customers there at one time. The older lady who seemingly owns the place doesn’t seem very happy as evidenced by her lack of a pleasant expression and her demeanor toward her staff and customers. Restaurants don’t seem to last in Jamul unless they provide a good value and excellent customer service.

2.5 stars actually. There were a few small details which, when accumulated brought the rating down. This used to be the old Fillipi’s Pizza location & is actually a very nice setup. When I saw their add in the Penny Saver announcing their«Grand Opening» it caught my attention & I decided to check the place out. Their advertisement had a «$ 5 lunch menu» so I decided to give it a try & ordered the burger & fries. There were only 2 other parties in the restaurant when I arrived & was greeted & seated promptly. I liked the offerings on their full menu which reflected just a variety of selections that were not overly ambitious, so had a good chance of being prepared above average than your Denny’s or IHOP style food. When the server took my order, I asked for cheese to be added to my burger. He informed me of the extra cost for cheese which I said was no problem. My burger & fries came out in a timely fashion & as i was prepping my burger I noticed there was no cheese. I had to flag a server down to inform them of the discrepency. They informed me they would remedy the problem but I decided because of time(sending the burger back, having them melt the cheese on the burger, etc) that I would eat the burger as is as long as they did not chagre me for the cheese. The server came back & said that the original order did not have cheese as an addition so I wasn’t charged. Early in my meal the server came by to ask me how everything was. Of course, it always seems that they come by right when youve taken your first bite so now you have a mouthful of food & can only mumble & give hand signals. After that initial checkup, it seems I became invisible. After a few bites I realized I probably needed more napkins. Servers passed by me several times without checking on me or even looking in my direction, so I had to ‘interupt’ a server as they began to walk by me to ask for more napkins. I finished the drink I had ordered before I was done with my meal and expected a server to notice & ask if I wanted to order another drink, but again I was the invisible customer(and this was after one party had left so there was now only me & one other party in the place). Once done with my meal I pushed my plate aside with crumpled napkins so it was quite obvious I was probably done. I had given up on getting another drink so I was ready to leave. Eventually a server came over to ask me if I was done. I said ‘yes’ and they came back with my bill and told me they would take it when I was ready. In looking at the bill I saw they charged me $ 5.95 for the advertised«$ 5» lunch special. There was no explanation of the additional charge. I put my money on the bill and waited for the server to pick it up so I could ask them about the discrepency in the charges. I waited … and waited … and waited. Looked around and saw no one around to even flag down. $ 00.95 was not going to kill my pocketbook so I left. Oftentimes its the details that make a place. The numerous negative details I encountered here made for a dissapointing experience — and it was a decent burger & fries! Its pretty bad when you servers aren’t attentive to your needs in a near empty restaurant. There really is no excuse.

The most wonderful pastrami melt! I am not a mustard fan so I asked for mayo instead and OMG this was too good! I tried to eat the entire«whole» half of the rye bread sandwich and I almost made it. The coleslaw was so good, there was a secret in there, I could taste the magic! Pickle spear was super good and honestly, that white mocha was also awesomeness straight from Jamul. Oh and speaking of awesomeness… I was informed of newness in some of their products so I am going to be trotting through more often. Besides, I think I have some new friends. And that is what this whole country atmosphere is all about! Good eats, drinks and atmosphere can’t be beat! Great location if you are also choosing a nice shady patio seat. :)

This is one of the best restaurants in Jamul and probably all of El Cajon. It’s has amazing food that wants to make you order seconds and their service is beyond amazing. All the waiters are nice and very friendly. The seating area is very relaxed and a nice place to eat with friends and family. The bakery/café part is filled with amazing sweets and a great selection of different coffees and other drinks. All in all it’s a must go to place to eat. PLUS: Free WiFi! FYI: Their number mentioned above is not correct according to their menus. The correct number actually is(619)825 — 5141.

If you’re looking for a great homestyle meal, look no further. They have your typical American-style diner fare, but none of it is insanely greasy or utterly tasteless. They hand-shred their hash browns! If you’re hankering for a burger and fries, ask for their $ 5 menu. When you’re ready for dessert, grab a tasty cinnamon crumb cake and a beautifully roasty cup of Seattle’s Best coffee. With their friendly servers(who genuinely mean it when they say«Take your time, honey» as they bring you the bill), and free Wi-Fi, it’s a great place to pass the time while waiting for Dave at Rancho Jamul Auto Repair down the road to fix your car.

Let’s see if I can write a review that won’t get ‘filtered’ by Unilocal. My truck is already on autopilot for this address since this is where Filippes was forever. Just glancing at the place while shopping nearby, it sort of gave me the idea it was for women. Having been inside, that feeling hasn’t changed, but the food is very good, it’s just not my type of atmosphere. My wife(who loves the place) dragged me in because banana bread loaded with real butter is one of my favorites. I was not disappointed. The cashier joked she’d meet me outside with a bag of bakery goodies if I didn’t want to come inside. That won me over.

Had breakfast for 2 on 12⁄11 and the cost was just under $ 24. I was very impressed with the cleanliness, food. and customer service. The eggs florentine are really good. Great small town feel, but nice enough to not look like Denny’s or IHOP. The restaurant even has a bakery/coffee bar in case you have to grab and go!

This is just what Jamul needed! Prior to this place coming in residents would have to drive all the way down the hill to Janet’s and who wants to do that when you want breakfast? The inside flair is definitely«new Jamul» and makes you feel like you’re sitting inside someone’s newly remodeled house. Fantastic looking green seated dining sets! Love it! Our wait staff was pleasant, coffee was refilled more than it ever needed to be, and all of our party was very content with the food that was ordered. They also offer military discounts! Yahoo!

I have been anticipating this place to open. After being open for a week now I decided to give it a try. Now, this place has two parts: the«Jamul Express Café» and the«Jamul Restaurant and Bakery.» I will be reviewing my breakfast at the restaurant but then again I learned later I could of had the same thing at the café. When I first walked in I was not greeted. I stood there looking at them while a conversation issued among them. So, I decided to take matters in my on hand and grab a menu and walk towards the seating of the restaurant. Finally, one of the employees said take a seat where ever you want. So I did! That was a weird beginning. Hint: «You have only been open a week, so you may want to work on that.» I wanted a sandwich so I ordered their«Royal Sandwich» which came with scrambled eggs, bacon(it said crispy on the menu but I beg to differ), and American cheese on sourdough. I have to say the sandwich was good. It was very simple but good and for $ 3.95, quite a bargain! I saw biscuits and gravy on the menu so I ordered a side of them for $ 3.95 as well. They were good as well. The gravy had a slight smokey taste with nice bits of sausage. The biscuits were moist with a nice crunch on the outside. The waitress was nice and attentive. After my meal, I walked over to the Express Café to check out the goods. They had a nice spread of baked goods.(I included a pic.) I particularly saw a giant vanilla bean scone that looked quite yummy. I plan to visit this spot not only to try their coffee and baked goods but to review it as well. Overall my first experience here was okay, so I gave the place an «A-okay» I plan to visit later to try their lunch menu next time I am in Jamul. PS. Please fix the door to the restaurant because it makes and annoying bang every time someone exits it. Just trying to be helpful.
