Stack ‘Em High was a perfectly fine establishment. It was the only breakfast place near us, somehow, so our group of 11 chose to go here. The staff were very kind and accommodating to our very large party. Sitting us in tables near each other and then moving us around when another table left. At this place, you order from the line and then are seated with an order number. No wait service, strictly speaking, but the waitresses came by very frequently to refill our coffees which we appreciated. I chose to get the crab cakes and eggs which was good. All in all, if you are looking for somewhere to eat in OBX I can recommend this place.

Delish pancakes! Very good. Had a fruit cup, egg and some excellent flap jacks for a reasonable price. It was busy and warm in the restaurant, but I’d go back for sure!

I have to say, since we were here in 2012, this particular location has seen some change… And it’s all positive. We visited last year in May and had a tasty breakfast with fast service. And we visited this year and found the line moving fast even though it’s a Saturday morning– and the restaurant was pretty clean… But most notably, the chef was out on the floor greeting customers, he stopped by to tell me how excellent the shrimp royale is and how happy he was that I ordered it… And of the five meals we ordered on this last visit, four were great. One had very tough country ham and overcooked eggs… But the pancakes, French toast, sausage, omlet, biscuits– all awesome. Will return.

This place was go great. The omelet was the best I ever had. The service was out of this world, they were so funny. They had you moving through the line, so even if you see a line out the door, don’t worry it goes fast.

Stack ‘em high and keep ‘em coming. Interesting experience, i.e. really yocal local kinda place. But great pancakes and service. Don’t miss the oyster hashbrowns… I know, right?

We come down to the OBX every year for my birthday, and I’m not sure how we’ve been missing this place! Order your food up at the counter, and then wait for your delicious meal to be brought to you. I had the biscuits and gravy, and it was probably the best biscuits and gravy I’ve had. We will be coming back every year!

Really don’t know what all the hype is about. The place is dingy, kinda dirty, they herd you thru an assembly line where you pick out your cafeteria food and pay, then take a number where a disheveled looking busboy/waiter/food runner brings you your order. Did I mention they were out of forks and knives. The restaurant wasn’t even full yet. Food: slightly over cafeteria status. Grits were good and eggs cooked to order(over med) however the pancakes were smothered in powdered sugar. What am I twelve? I don’t need that on my pancakes. And for a place called Stack em High, they sure were not. High that is. 3 pancakes barely topped the rimmed plate. Service: They’re is none, you go up front to get refill, go up front to get condiments etc. This place is ok if you’re looking for something cheap and decent. If service and cleanliness are what you’re after then avoid this place.

Stack ‘em High Pancake House is AAdvantage dining and that attracted us to give it a try. We normally don’t go for breakfast, once in a while we skip lunch and do a late breakfast instead. This was a Sunday, deep into the off season and they were not busy in the late morning. You go through the line to order and find a table. They bring your food to you. The comprehensive menu is definitely aimed at your American breakfast cravings with a few lunch sandwiches in addition. They do take-out packages for large hungry families which looks pretty cool. There is definite Greek influence in the menu, alas no Mexican to speak of. I ordered a cheese omelet with grits and sausage links. You have your choice of links or patties and the person who took my order said she preferred the links. The omelet was large with a lot of cheese. I ate half and had half for a later meal. The sausages were of very good quality. The grits were fine with a generous knob of butter. Ms T had her usual two eggs sunny with sausage and all were fine. She also liked the sausage. This is a place to be recommended for breakfast at the Outer Banks, based on this one visit. I think it is where we will go when we do have breakfast. In my mind I can’t help but compare it to the bad American breakfast that we had ~3 months earlier at Almost Eleven. Breakfast is well done at Stack ‘em High. We assume the two locations are interchangeable. The KDH location was closed for the season in early January, so we drove a little farther to Kitty Hawk.

I’ve been coming to Stack ‘Em High since I was in middle school when my family vacations in OBX. Seriously good food for very good price. My husband and I both ate a short stack, with an egg, and bacon(he got sausage) with drinks(orange juice and milk) for $ 20. I had strawberries on my pancakes and the portion was generous! My only wish is that they still had T-shirts for sale. A must stop every time!

If you aren’t counting calories and want a good homecooked meal like grandma would make without the fuss of the cleanup and sloppy kisses — this is the place. The service was wonderful and the food was great. I had grits, pancakes and bacon. It was perfect. I would definitely go back.

Ate breakfast here on a Saturday morning. Arrived around 10:30 and waited around 10 minutes in line. Once we got to the register there was plenty of seating for us, but the place was full. Food took about 10 minutes to come out. I got the special: 2 pancakes, scrambled eggs with bacon. My husband got the western omelet with grits. The pancakes were really good! They were huge and had really great sweet flavor! The eggs were nothing different than a standard breakfast place, the bacon was nice and thick and salty, yum! My husband really like the omelet but the grits were seriously lacking in salt! Hash browns are not shredded potato, they are cubed and fried with peppers and soft, just fyi because we were expecting the crispy shredded kind. My sister asked for hot chocolate and they gave her warm water and an old packet of hot chocolate lol we ended up asking the waitress if they could heat it up a bit more because the water wasn’t hot enough to blend in the chocolate powder. Staff was great, very helpful and fast, super friendly! We can see why it’s such a popular spot, next time we’re in town we will definitely be back! Parking can be limited, we ended up in the grass but it was no big deal. Very, very casual!

There is something for everyone here. From pancakes to steak and eggs. I got an omelette and really enjoyed it. The home fries were amazing. My wife got the red flan meal(a lot of food came with it). You can’t beat the price here. For the two of us, coffees too, it was a low bill in the twenties. I know my score says a three but it really is more of. 3.5

Had an amazing bacon omelette here. Service was quick and not too expensive. Kind of wish they had booths but still a nice setting. Pro tip* you have to ask for cheese on your omelette. I’d definately come back.

Ok so I’ve been coming here for years… I thought I reviewed this spot before but I guess not so here it goes. Stack Em is my go to breakfast on the OBX. I am in love with their pancakes. It is thin, buttery, sweet, yet light and fluffy. For me that is my kind of pancakes! The hash brown is real potatoes, chopped and sauté. There’s plenty of reviews on this place so, I won’t bore you with the details. It does get crowed and their can be a line waiting to get served but it does go fast.

The 411: this place has delicious pancakes and really nice omelettes. Friendly staff also make this a bustling, yet pleasant experience. The place gets BUSY in the mornings. So if you want a quiet breakfast, stay home. You walk in and order at the front. You get a tray for your drinks and silverware and hopefully find a seat. Just know that if it’s your first time going. The food: very delicious. The Spanish omelette is great and the pancakes are incredible. They’re thin and flavorful with great texture. The bacon is thin and mild. Which is okay I guess, but I’d willingly pay an extra dollar for thicker and more flavorful bacon. The sausage is thick and flavorful. Good stuff when dipped in the syrup they give you. The only thing I didn’t get was how to get refills on drinks. I got coffee and oj and finished them both, expecting to get someone to top them off for me. It was my first time there, so I’m not sure if you had to walk back up to the counter for it or not. The workers are very nice and pleasant. Bottom line: this place has delicious breakfast food at **decent prices. Two dishes and three drinks ran $ 26. Not the best but certainly not the worst. Give this place a go! You won’t regret getting the pancakes or an omelette.

If you like cafeteria style eating, then this is the place for you! By cafeteria, I mean, you grab a tray, get your drink and then order at the end of the line where they will hand you a magical number that will later be exchanged for some deliscious quick breakfast food. BTW, This is for the NORTH location. There’s actually two stack’em high pancakes that are equally busy. It’s not the cleanest place, but certainly not the dirtiest I’ve ever been to. Plus it’s the food that’s important. Was it tasty? Did it fulfill my breakfast needs? HELL Yes! So if ever you are in Nags Head area, head over to one of their location for a quick bite of some stacked pancakes! Food pickings: I hear their Gyro Omelette with tsaziki sauce was a definite hit along with their crab cakes speacial and chocolate chip pancakes! Sorry but they don’t have Country Fried Steak any longer, even though its on their fold out menu. Also note that this is a family business, so if you happen to see some good ol’ family style bickering, don’t be too concerned. They are obviously not very concerned about professionalism here. I mean c’mon, blatantly calling your daughter stupid in front of a very busy breakfast hour, lets save that for behind closed doors. For home-girl that still kept a smile on her face even after that embarrassment, I feel your pain. Good on you for keepin’ it profesh.

Would I have had better luck if I had gone to the one just a few miles south, in Kill Devil Hills? I’m not banking on it. Even if it were decent, Stack ‘em High would come across as a pretty garden-variety pancake house/Greek diner. But the Outer Banks of NC are no longer the sleepy backwater they once were, meaning people with both money AND discernment should be able to recognize that this place is resting on its laurels. From nondescript coffee/food to an inefficient, cafeteria-style ordering form, the place already seemed like a forgettable experience. But then it made itself memorable in the worst sort of way. All through the meal I had been marveling at what would have made my breakfast at a greasy spoon like Stack ‘em High so expensive(since you pay upon ordering). After eating, I went back to the cashier. And here’s a summary: ME: So I just ordered A and B without the C. Since everything is priced based on different combinations, why did I pay more than someone who orders A, B and C all together? Nearly $ 15! CASHIER: Let me show you. [And she promptly points me to her computer touch screen, where, yes, the three items are wrapped in a special, whereas the two were a separate«special» that happened to cost more.] ME: But that makes no sense. I paid $ 2 more than I would have paid if I got C. CASHIER: That’s just how it is programmed on my computer. ME: So basically I just had to pay more to get less? CASHIER: Sorry – I’m not the owner. Indeed, you’re just a button pusher. And you pushed my buttons enough by ripping me off to write this nastygram. Come on, OBX – with all those snooty Northeasterners coming down here, surely they can pound their fists on the table and demand a good pancake joint! Hope springs eternal.

My family loves this place! We always stop and eat here when we’re at OBX. Even during the off season, this place has a steady flow of patrons. The pancakes are awesome. This is no IHOP. My wife’s French Toast was delicious. The bacon is slap you mama good! The grits are not Quaker brand, but a much courser variety that’s more Southern cooking. The food is always constant and delicious. This is a must stop for anyone who wants a great breakfast.

I’m not sure why this location as a lower star rating than the other one, but I can assure you that this is one of the best breakfast options at OBX. The restaurant is cafeteria style — you stand in line with your tray and order/pay at the end. Along the way you get your drinks, muffins, etc. The line was out the door when we arrived, but as other reviewers have mentioned we were sitting down in 20 minutes. The have a mish-mash of tables in the restaurant, and although I was skeptical our party of six would find a seat, the turnover was such that we had no problem at all. The owners must be Greek, since you will find more than a few gyros and tzatziki options on the menu. But let’s talk food — oh the glorious breakfast food. First up was the smothered hash browns. The potatoes are in chunks, not chipped, and spread on top is a glorious concoction of cheese, bacon, and onions. It may have lowered my life expectancy a few years, but it was totally worth it. Next was the pancakes. I ordered the short stack with bananas and chocolate chips, which also included a serving of bacon and two eggs. Here I thought the pancakes would have the chocolate chips and bananas on top, but no dear reader, they are actually backed inside the pancakes. The pancakes were light and fluffy, roughly six inches in diameter, and absolutely delicious(I can still taste it as I write this review). The bacon was also delicious — salty and not crispy to the point of shattering. My girlfriend ordered the Southwestern omelet. Oh my god. It was delicious — pulled pork and green/red peppers inside with a special sauce on top. That baby was roughly seven to eight inches long. Also came with hash browns and a piece of toast sprinkled with a seasoning that tasted like Old Bay. Highly recommend. In conclusion, I can’t rave about this place enough. The prices are also very reasonable — our bill was only $ 25 for the above including drinks. The best breakfast I’ve ever had at the beach.
