The Refugio Ranch tasting room is probably my favorite tasting spot on Grand Ave in Los Olivos. I love their wines, especially the Viognier and the Barbareño(Petit Syrah/Syrah blend). The building is beautiful and comfortable and they do live music some nights! To top it off, the employees at RR are so cool and welcoming. I always have good conversations with the tasting room attendants when I am there(last time I had Robin and she was just so much fun and full of information… we left feeling like we had made a new friend!). Definitely stop here during your wine tasting adventures — it is the first building on the left after you turn into Grand Ave so you can’t miss it. Thank you Robin and crew!

We were here on a rainy, Sunday afternoon and the only ones tasting. The town was suffering from the slightly wet weather. Good for us. I prefer to taste at a leisurely pace in a comfortable, welcoming environment. I hate a loud, noisy tasting rooms. If I want to have a bar experience, I’ll go there. But I digress. … They have several award winning wines especially from the 2015 San Francisco International Wine Festival, which I’m very familiar with. Their Barbareño is their flagship wine, and is a double gold award winner. I preferred the Escondrijo as it has a lighter profile. I’m not into big, bold reds. The gentleman who served us was charming and knowledgeable and gave us some local recommendations for other items that would appeal to our tastes. This was our first stop in Los Olivos and it was such a pleasant and enjoyable entry to the town.

Chase was very informative and professional. He had lots of great suggestions for food pairings. Not crowded and the tastings were reasonably price. Be sure to checkin for the discount.

We’re pretty much Napa Cabernet drinkers every night. If you’re anywhere close to Los Olivos it’s a must stop for a great wine flight. Kevin Gleason stared his winery using the best people in every aspect of the business. Everything from the soil to the glass you taste in is top notch. Chase runs the tasting room and can tell you about every aspect of the wine you’re tasting. If you don’t join the wine club, you’re missing out. The Barbareno is our favorite! I only see their wines becoming harder to find and more expensive. Right now you can’t beat the quality for the price…

What a great place to spend an afternoon. They have a spacious interior, a nice patio with live music, a food truck outside in case you’re hungry and friendly and knowledgeable staff. They’re known for mostly red wines, which isn’t really my thing, but it was fun tasting them anyways. Overall, it was a really chill place to hang out and try some wine.

Located at the entrance to Los Olivos, Refugio Ranch is not to be missed. Their wines are great, the serving room is spacious and rustic(nice contrast from the other tasting rooms in Los Olivos), and their service is super friendly.

One of the best tasting rooms I have been too in a long time! Dog and kid Friendly(which is hard to find these days). They have parking which is convenient and key in Los Olivos, Large sexy rustic style tasting room with knowledgeable staff. Last but definitely not least, the wines are off the chart! SUPA amazing Rhone style varietals!

Such a cool spot in such a cute town. We went on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and we were delighted by the lovely wine and friendly staff. The Agua Dulce was refreshing and delicious. Highly recommend!

Beautiful tasting room, wonderful staff and owners, and bed of all– the wine is the sincerely my favorite wine in all the world!!! I tend to only drink reds, so their 2010 Barbareno is my happy place wine. However, their white wines are delicious too– my finance’s favorite is the Inseno. The tasting room ambiance is ridiculously charming laid-back. You can sit outside on the wooden deck or find a comfortable place inside at the bar, If you haven’t been to this tasting room in Los Olivios, you should seriously go!!!

I went to Refugio Ranch with my family on a wine tour with Wine Canyon Tours. We stopped at a couple different wineries throughout the day, and it was nice to see the beautiful vineyards at some of the larger facilities(Zaca Mesa, Lincourt…) but without a doubt the best wine we tasted all day was here! My girlfriend and her sister obsessed over the rustic feel of the tasting room while I obsessed over their Syrah/Petit Sirah blend. I ended up leaving with a case and as soon as we finish it, we will be back for more!

If you’re from Los Angeles it’s great to know that you don’t have to go all the way to San Luis Obispo to find some fantastic wines. With about 40 tasting rooms in Los Olivos(all in walking distance of each other) great wine is sure to be close by. After visiting most of the tasting rooms over about a dozen trips, there’s only one we’ve had to visit every time: Refugio Ranch. Refugio’s tasting room is pretty unique. It’s one of the nicer tasting rooms in town and has a separate tasting area for bigger parties. Overall, it’s what can best be described as a «classy ranch feel.» Their staff is really knowledgeable about their wines and really friendly. We joined their wine club on our first visit. I’m typically a reds-only guy, but we joined the red/white club and I haven’t been disappointed. I especially love the Tiradora(white blend) and their Petite Sirah. I maintain a few wine club memberships, but Refugio is probably the only one that’s not always on the chopping block. Life’s too short not to drink great wine. The bottom line is Refugio produces great wine and at the end of the day that’s the only thing that matters. All the rest is icing on the cake.

Drove up to the area over a weekend for some wine tasting with my girlfriend and her parents. We spent most of our time at Refugio! The wine is delicious, and the guy running the tasting room — his name was Jameson — was kind, educated on the wines, and charming. I’m not usually a huge fan of white wines, but Refugio has a well crafted selection. Since they are a relatively new winery, they have few reds, but the ones they do have do not disappoint! Good environment, good people, and good wine make for a good time. What else could you ask for in a place like this? I will definitely be returning to Refugio soon.

My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this tasting room on Unilocal while planning a trip for our anniversary. The building is really nice but has a rustic quality that we both loved. If I recall properly, the building is a historic landmark over 100 years old, but has been restored with a modern touch. Neither of us tend to drink a lot of white wines, but after trying theirs(especially the Ineseno) we joined their wine club and actually opted for red/white option. We ended up comparing every other tasting room(and wine) to Refugio Ranch all day. Bottom line — Awesome wine, very knowledgeable staff, and the best way to start your day in wine country before your palate gets worn out!

This was our first visit to Refugio, we of course will visit again on our next trip. The first pouring was my favorite. I’m stuck on whites right now, so the RR Sauvignon Blanc was just perfect. Easily two glasses for even a light weight like myself. It listed apple, peach blossom, and vanilla… pure deliciousness to me.

My girlfriend and I found this tasting room by accident. After stopping at Stolpman tasting room, we headed to a couple of others but they were both packed. We took a few steps toward the end of the main strip and there it was! Not so many people in there and we were a bit concerned, but we decided to be open-minded and try. $ 12 tasting offered four whites, two reds, and one dessert wine(as of Feb-13). I usually prefer more reds to whites, but tasting four whites didn’t disappoint me at all. If I were a daily wine drinker, I would have definitely gotten a few bottles of those whites. Two reds were also delicious(2008&2009) as our expectation was climbing after tasting whites. In Los Olivos, there are so many tasting rooms, but I would definitely go back to RR next time when I’m in town :-)

So three weeks after coming up to Los Olivos and visiting the Refugio Ranch tasting room, I made it a point to come back up again. Was it just the delicious wine that brought me back up? Sure, but that wasn’t the only reason. I came back up to visit a few places and to see Lisa. There is no way you can walk into Refugio and not notice Lisa. Her genuine desire to pour great wine and talk about wine just shines through. I just left and can’t wait to come back in August when my next trip is planned. If you are in the area then you need to stop in and say hello!
