As one of the«best restaurants in Las Cruces» my experience was beyond disappointing. The atmosphere and environment is very cool and historic but the food and service was horrendous. You can order from either this menu or their other restaurant that is apparently at the same location but not both at the same table. For a party of 4 our food came out in 2 shifts so we had to eat separately. I payed $ 6.75 for 3 grilled asparagus which is ridiculous! The corn was either frozen or canned but not fresh. The server had no idea what was vegetarian on the menu. I would steer clear of them for sure, there are better options and the price and service and food are awful.

We’ve had good experiences here, for the most part. The food is good… not excellent, certainly not what I’d expect from«the best restaurant in town,» but it’s good. The décor is incredible, the history is interesting, and dining in the haunted room is pretty fun. I would rate it 4 stars, but our most recent trip here has resulted in a downgrade. We were overcharged for 2 items on the menu. 1 item is on both the Double Eagle and Peppers menus. It was ordered from the Peppers menu, but we were charged the Double Eagle price because the waitress added a potato to the order, which was over $ 10 more. $ 24 for a chicken breast + baked potato. Ridiculous. The second item was the meal for 2(some cut of steak, asparagus, potatoes, tomatoes), listed as «$ 46 each.» This was interpreted to mean $ 46 total for 2 people, since the meal was listed as «for two.» We were shocked when we received the bill, and each person was charged $ 46(!!!). Had they known the meal was that expensive, they certainly would not have ordered it. When we brought it up to our waitress, she agreed that the menu is misleading and said that the issue had come up before and that she had even suggested to management that they change the menu. She retrieved the manager for us, and he tried to reassure us that the menu would be changed within the next week, which obviously did nothing for us. Land of Mañana in full effect. He said that he could not just take one of the $ 46 charges off of our bill for some silly reason, but he did end up taking 15% off the whole bill and completely removed the erroneous $ 24 charge for the chicken dinner. We still ended up paying more than we had anticipated by about $ 7, but it was better than it would have been. I appreciate his«effort,» but he should have just taken off the entire $ 46 charge. I have a couple other minor complaints. We ate in the haunted room. It smelled faintly of urine. Not the best atmosphere to accompany a $ 40 steak. Also… they use what appear to be dollar store plastic office supply containers to serve the crackers with butter. The butter appears to be just regular softened butter with a sprinkle of paprika on top. Meh. Also… the bouquet onthe table is fake — dusty, old plastic and silk flowers. Totally inconsistent with the vibe they’re going for. If they want to charge $ 40 – 50 per dinner, they need to up their game, even in Las Cruces. There are people here from bigger cities who apply the same criticisms and expect the same standards to be met as places with similar reputations in those bigger cities. And if they’re not met, we will prepare our dinner at home for far less money. Or just go to Savoy, which is superior and cheaper.

This place was ok. Visiting from cali we decided to try this place. Service was slow at first and we thought we were going to get overall bad service but the waiter became more attentive towards the middle and was very nice. As for food it was ok. We got a lime for our fried guacamole and it was completely dried out. However, it was still good but probably would’ve tasted better with the lime. I guess it depends on what you get. Our food was kind of cold. Really awesome chips, salsa, and French fries though! Probably won’t be back, we weren’t impressed.

So we decided to try and go to a new place for a Valentines Day dinner, somewhere kinda far(we live in El Paso) so that it «feels» like a road trip, but still very doable for a dinner. So, The Double Eagle in Mesilla(Las Cruces) was the choice. Location: tucked in on a small street in Mesilla, this place doesn’t look like much from the outside. But when you look around, Mesilla is kinda cute! Neat looking little place with a very old west, small town, but still cool and historic but trendy feel … If that makes sense. But still, parking is a nightmare and the restaurant looks kinda sketch from outside. But then you go in… So this used to be a house(you can read the history of it online). I’m not sure who lived here, but dude… They had some money. The inside of this place is absolutely beautiful. It’s HUGE too. From fountains in the courtyard to chandeliers in the magnificent bar, this place is so very nice. Seriously, walking up outside you’ll be hesitant and feel let down, but as soon as you enter its like you’re in another world. It’s simply beautiful. Lighting is perfect, layout is perfect. The bar,. If I was a drinker, I could sit there an entire night and look at the art on the walls and have some cocktails. Really liked this place. Dress Code: I’m not sure there’s an actual dress code. But this place IS nice enough, that you can dress up and not be out of place at all. Then again, there was a little bit of everything there, and nobody was turned away. We had gentleman in suits with their significant others in nice dresses. There was the«kinda old people crowds», you know the kind that wears a lot of slacks and button down shirts but also a Ralph Lauren baseball-ish cap. The older crowd that you can just tell, isn’t dressed up SUPER nice, but they have a fly house and a 5 series Beemer waiting outside for them. The successful retired kinda people. Then there was the younger kinda, wearing a suit but it’s crazy turquoise and black silk like flashy kinda thing and their significant other was wearing a dress… But was a biiiiiit shorter than you’d think you should wear to a restaurant lol. And yes, there were even the group that JUST turned 21 and parents gotta little money so they are here to drink at the bar with skinny jeans, earrings and toboggans on. Or a fitted hat backwards. Oddly, even one guy wearing shorts? But not like fashionable shorts, like SHORT shorts. Like the UPS or FedEx man kinda shorts lol… Not sure what that was about. But, no one was refused service. But ultimately, a nice pair of pants and button down or polo would do just fine here. Ladies; wear whatever, just wear something nice. There’s WAY to many«nice» styles for women to point them all out. If you’re dressed like one of the girls from Pretty Little Liars, you’re doing just fine. The food: Ok so I’m gonna have to go back for a better review on this. We went during Valentine’s Day, and this weekend it was reservation ONLY. The menu was VERY small, but I’m assuming it was because it was a special menu for Valentine’s Day. I guess this because there are several photos of several items on Unilocal that were not offered. Also, I hear the brunch is very good, yet another reason to return. I had chicken breast, my wife had filet mignon. We both had double baked potato as the side. Finished it off with a smile High Cheesecake and Key Lime Pie with raspberry sorbet. Also, the award winning margaritas. I didn’t have one(I was driving), but my wife enjoyed hers. We had a delightful Brie appetizer that had some kinda apricot/jalapeño sauce on it. Would’ve went very well with wine. Pricing: not bad actually. I mean, it’s a fancy/nice restaurant. So I came packing. But got the bill and was pleasantly surprised. All of what we listed above, right at $ 80. Considering every time we go to our favorite sushi place(monthly) we drop nearly $ 200… I was kinda like, hmm, ok I’m definitely cool with $ 80 lol. Verdict: a legit 4 star place. Nice restaurant. They can host events or just entertain a romantic evening with one person and their SO. MosDef a place to try. Brunch, dinner, it’s whatever. Try both? I know I will be… Remember though, parking is kinda sketch lol. Das it mayne

Really I can make anything they serve at home… overpriced & poor quality, plus the service is hella slow. Don’t even think about it. The only reason for a 3 star review is because their bar is on point… only plus at this location.

I can only base my review on the Sunday brunch offered here. Overall I’d say that it is a pretty good buffet style brunch. They offer the breakfast and brunch standards such as omelets, waffles, french toast, sausage, bacon, and homestyle potatoes, etc. They also have some New Mexico style offerings such as green chile stew and green chile mac & cheese. There is also a nice fruit and cheese selection — I was very impressed with the addition of fresh mozzarella, but I kept wondering where the tomatoes were! For meat lovers there is a station where you can order roast beef with all the fixings. There is also a dessert station with offerings such as pecan pie, pumpkin pie, pound cake, and a chocolate fountain with marshmallows and strawberries for dipping. I was the least impressed with the desserts overall. The pecan pie was pretty decent but the marshmallows by the chocolate fountain were stale and the chocolate wasn’t anything spectacular. Unfortunately I could not try any additional desserts, otherwise I would have exploded right then and there. One great thing about the brunch is that it comes with either 3 glasses of champagne and or mimosas to order. You can also order unlimited non-alcoholic standards such as ice tea and coffee. Double Eagle is very much a historic place and this also makes for a nice atmosphere. Apparently there are ghosts in the building but I sure didn’t see any unfortunately! Overall, brunch is a good experience here and is fun to try at least once and when you are in the mood to eat a ton of food and get a bit tipsy.

Come for the history, stay for ghosts! Tried the award winning margarita, not bad but nothing to write home about. Didn’t have food, so I can’t comment, but man oh man, this place looks amazing! It’s almost 200 years old! Worth a trip just to check out the décor, it’s mostly traditional.

The outside of the restaurant does not match the inside. Great ambiance, friendly staff and good food. Loved that the scampi is cooked at the table and the trout was perfectly cooked. We were disappointed not to have the«haunted» experience.

The best place to have Brunch on Sundays, you can go to church at the old mesilla square and head to brunch afterwards. I suggest you make reservation that way you arrive and get seated no waiting and the mimosas and buffet are delicious

Restaurant This was a good hidden treasure. Restaurant does not look like much from outside but very elegant from inside. Late 1800’s look from inside very nice inside patio. Food Ordered green cheese enchiladas. Food is TexMex style very tasty. I enjoyed food a lot. Service It took 1 hr for us to get our food. That’s why I gave it four stars. Even though waitress did give 15% off coupon for our wait.

Reservations are recommended but we made a reservation for Thursday at five fifteen and we were the only ones in the dining room! It was quiet and intimate. The place was beautiful. From the indoor courtyard all the way to what appeared to be a banquet room. I thought I’d be spending a ridiculous amount of money but Thursday’s they have a reduced price 10 oz prime rib, which we didn’t order(but still a steal) and classic margaritas for 7 $ frozen or on the rocks ! The bar in the front of the restaurant was gorgeous. We saw it passing through to the dining room. We saw the server assistant more than the serve but they were both very kind and accommodating to my husband and my needs. It was about an hour drive from El Paso, but definitely worth the drive. Especially driving through New Mexico to the place(if you’ve never been to New Mexico). The aged sirloin steak was delicious and the vegetable of the day that day was grilled asparagus(my favorite and cooked to perfection). My husband ordered the blackberry duck and absolutely loved it. For an appetizer we ordered the ravioli which was a little disappointing. For almost 9 $ you get three bite size ravioli and a stack of shiitake mushrooms in the center. Was good but not worth the price. I’d recommend this place to anyone! Especially a night away from the kids.

I used to love eating lunch here or sitting at the bar! If you have a few people in your party, reserve the haunted Carlotta Room.

This place is a hidden gem. I brought my wife here because we heard of the«haunted restaurant». To hell with any ghosts! The food was magnificent! My wife and I both had the stuffed green chili peppers(Relleno). It came with refried beans and Spanish rice. The service was superb and our waiter took the time to explain the dishes and how they are made. My wife and I had a traditional margarita which made the meal that much better. The ambiance was excellent as well, the restaurant is in an old house with plenty of room and a good decorations scheme. Only one small regret… No ghosts

I came here for lunch, on a business trip. We had a large party and ate in a private room(which I think the people we were with had previously reserved). This place was GORGEOUS. The staff gave us a tour and told us their famous ghost stories. They also gave us post cards with some of their recipes on them as free souvenirs. Way cool! And the food was sooo good! I had the chicken mesilla and was thoroughly satisfied. Their parking lot is pretty small, but there’s plenty of street parking.

One thing about his place I really appreciate is its consistency. When you go to the Eagle, you know what your going to get. Great food and Great Service! Attended a reception yesterday and the food and service was spot on.

This place is really nice inside and definitely has a unique feel. We ate in the plantation room I think it is called? It was sunny from the skylight windows and I liked all the plants everywhere. All the furniture is nice and handmade down the street and is pretty expensive stuff. My boyfriend’s parents told us about a time they ate in the old dining room and that it is haunted. Everyone’s cell phones supposedly lost over half their charge. The food and service are honestly meh. Not bad, but not great. I got the brisket green chili enchiladas and they came to the table lukewarm… Pet peeve of mine… The green chili could have been spicier and I felt like the enchiladas over all just didn’t have enough flavor for what they were. The enchiladas came with beans and rice, which were just alright not great… Yet again… Ha. We got the banana enchilada for desert. It was just gross and slimy and cold. Boyfriend and his dad got the key lime pie with homemade sorbet which was good! Probably my favorite part of the meal to be honest besides the chips and salsa which were yummy! They have great tortilla chips. The margaritas also looked really good… I would come back if I was only coming to drink and eat their chips and salsa… Haha.

This place is a historical must-see location. It is absolutely beautiful to dine and having a drink here. Supposedly, there is a history of a killing and ghosts and the entire places looks and smells in some places as if time stopped. I did not go there for the food but had their Award-winning margaritas. They are strong, great and priced fairly well for its quality. The ambiance itself is worthwhile. The reason I am giving it only 4 stars, is the lack of attentive customer service. We have been seated in a very comfortable area but it was somewhat secluded and hence the service did not stop by as often as we would have liked it. I also received a glass that had lipstick on it. But I mean like a lot of lipstick not just a tiny spot. The waitress brought me immediately a new glass(in my opinion) with a less stronger margarita than the lipstick glass had.

We just ate at the Double Eagle(not Peppers) last night, and it was everything we expected in a fine dining experience. We have traveled the world many times and eaten in the best restaurants in both the US and Europe, and by comparison Double Eagle is definitely in the same class. We all had aged steaks and I could have cut mine with my fork — and it was the«baseball cut» sirloin! My husband ordered the NY Strip and was also very pleased. Aged steaks served with a perfectly balanced red wine reduction, classic and just what we expected. Our servers were also very knowledgeable about the wines, very friendly, courteous, and helpful. Their selection of «by the glass» choices is superb, I had the Pinot Noir and husband had the Cab. We will definitely be returning to Double Eagle, as we are new to Las Cruces and just scoping out some good places to go. If you are looking for great food, aged steaks, and wonderful service, we definitely recommend Double Eagle. And if you’re more of a «Lone Star» or «Texas Roadhouse» kind of steak diner, you will still be blown away by the historically elegant décor. We could just imagine people in period dress sitting there with us. Ask to be seated in the original Double Eagle part of this historic restaurant, you will not be disappointed!
