The 2 of us had dinner tonight, he had the Pjilly sliders and I had the ½ chicken with asparagus and mashed, which I found couldn’t be substituted without extra charge, which I found annoying given the prices to begin with. But our server, Jennifer, was great and the food was flavorful, the chicken was a big chicken and I prefer small poulets which are much more tender than big older chooks, and this was the size of a ‘baking’ chook, and so it was enough for 3 – 4 people. The vodka drink was very weak, given the $ 9, but after complaint to Jennifer she was able to get the manager to okay the bartender adding a half shot. Geese. Friend enjoyed the sliders and they were very flavorful. Ambience left much to be desired. Will maybe return but only for lunch.

Every time we have gone back here it gets worse and worse. The first time it was great, the second time it was flawed but still decent(however they did try to overcharge the chefs choice salmon by $ 10 despite it being referred to as the chefs choice). This time however it was entirely unappealing. Steak was over salted and tough, not nearly the quality I expect from a $ 27 steak. It was cooked correctly on the outer portion however the main part was slightly over cooked. They shorted on the fracking fries that used to be large and now ended up skimpy and sad. We noticed the fries had missing portions and the waiter brought a component of the fries that the kitchen had forgotten. 2 stars for service as both the server and the manager seemed concerned and asked how the food was. In short the service was excellent and worth 20 percent however the food was the last straw. We will not be returning ever again. Caveat emptor.

We were in Midland several days for a dog show and my wife was craving a good steak. We went online and it came down to making a decision between a local place that we did not know but had decent online reviews and a couple of old standbys. I sure am glad that we decided to take the chance and try Steak 42. A number of the reviews harped on the décor(it was a Mexican restaurant in a past life and is not particularly impressive), but all seemed to agree that the food was good. Good food would be an understatement! My wife had an excellent filet mignon that was cooked to perfection. As good as anything that we have ever had at a Mortons or Ruths Chris. I had the pork chop(more the size of a small pork roast) and I think it was the best that I have ever had. Very flavorful and you could cut it with a fork. The sides were well prepared and tasty also. The service was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly and personable. She knew the ins and outs of the various food selections and was very attentive, checking up on us several times. I would recommend Steak 42 to anyone.

In town for an event and happened on this restaurant by chance. What a happy surprise! Excellent waiter and great food. The filet was wonderful and we found a new label wine that we really loved. Casual but rather upscale dining. We would definitely go back!

I’d say 4.5 if that was an option but only for décor which I don’t totally care about. Food and service both really good /great and good wine too for the price. In another town could easily cost several times as much so enjoy. Pretty darn busy for Wed night

Great food! Not a Mexican restaurant. Ribeye was fantastic. This little gem is a trustworthy place for anyone looking for MEAT. Steak steak and steak, as the name would suggest. Blue collar friendly. Could use a larger selection of beer, but they have the basics.

2nd visit was not as good as first. Poor service, warmed over food. I’m sorry to say the popularity of this place has hurt it. Perhaps they will get the kinks worked out soon. I won’t be back for a while. To expensive to have a poor experience.

First impressions: Steak 42 is trying so hard to be upscale, but just misses the mark. A new coat of paint and curtains doesn’t cover up the Mexican restaurant it used to be. The dented salt and pepper shakers and recycled chairs don’t help.(Fine dining restaurants usually don’t put salt and pepper on the tables… the chef is so good, you won’t need it.) With that being said, the food was very good. We had the Fracking Fries. Good flavor. Presentation needs work. The beef short ribs were cooked to perfection and the presentation was very good. Our service was excellent! She checked in on us the perfect number of times. I would go again for the food and the service, but have no hesitation in wearing jeans and t-shirt.(We went on a Tuesday at 5:30 so that may be the reason I saw customers in work shirts and shorts.)

This restaurant was accurate to its reviews. I had the kabobs with chefs special over rice along with a delicious spaghetti squash. The only reason I am giving it a four is because of the location and the odd in entrance that is not marked which almost led me to leave the parking lot being there where very few cars in the parking lot. The waitstaff was friendly and well versed in their menu — explaining details that typically come from a high class establishment. If I am in midland area again I will definitely revisit and would recommend you do the same.

Of course Midland needed another steakhouse. After the Outback, the Saltgrass, and Texas Road House, of course it makes sense to open up another steak house. But wait, is my medium rare ribeye cooked to medium rare? Does my steak actually have a nice sear? Did the chef(or cook) actually think about presentation and not just throw stuff on a plate? The answer: yes, yes, and yes. Ok, so I do like this place. The quality of the meat was food and the service was excellent. I just hope customer service and food quality does not drop over time.

Wish we had this at home, just passing thru from Jackson, TN. Absolutely delicious. I had the Salmon Ric had the Prime Rib, both dishes were perfectly prepared. If I am ever out this way again I will be back. Waitress was Awesome, did not have to ask for water, or anything she was on top of her job.

The food was amazing! We had the lobster Mac and cheese to start. It was very good. We had the tuna, steak kabobs, and apple crème brûlée. It is a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it.

Excellent food! Fantastic Fracking Fries! Both of us had Ribeye steak that came with zucchini, mashed potatoes and shoestring onions! Both steaks were cooked to perfection and fantastic flavor. The waitress was very attentive and you never ran out of anything to drink. A restaurant to definitely go back to!

Solid good food. We tried the strip and the filet both were cooked exactlt like we ordered. The sides were great, the risitto and sauces were so so good. Dont go for the ambience, it could use an upgrade in terms of formality and décor. But hey we are there to eat, so who cares eat here i was impressed and in Midland i rarely am.

My husband and I decided to try this place for dinner. We waited about 15 minutes for our table in the makeshift bar area. They didn’t have pinot grigio and two drinks were over 20 bucks. kinda high in my opinion, especially for midland. The service was ok, good at first but towards the end she disappeared and kept giving excuses. I had the filet and it was good, a bit over cooked for my liking. My husband had the prime rib and it was extremely over cooked. the vegetables were ok, nothing impressive. I will definitely go back and keep an open mind that it’s new and they need to work out some kinks. Hopefully it will be as much as a success as El Burrito!

Went to steak 42 the other night the ambiance was fantastic the service was the best I’ve had here in a while I was seated promptly I had drink in hand with in five minutes or less I ordered my appetizer I had the fracking fries they were awesome I ordered the New York strip medium well with grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes with awesome sauce let me tell you it was excellent best steak I’ve had in a long time then finished with the turtle cheese cake everything was reasonably priced can’t wait to go back.

A new steak house on the south side. The prime rib was perfectly prepared and melted in my mouth. I also tried the chicken fried steak. Fabulous. The frackin French fries were wonderful. The favors all went together so well. Service was great. Highly recommend it.
