Waited here for a seat next door as I wanted something more formal… honestly disappointed that I didn’t eat here. They gave me a taste of their roast beef and I was instantly in love. Great food also had onion rings as an app and they were fantastic. Daughter had a burger that she loved. Everything was great!

We enjoy coming here when we are in town! It’s reasonably priced, love the out door seating. If visiting, try the hand carved roast beef!

The roast beef — French dip was OK. Delicious? Yes, cause I was starving. The beef was dry during this visit that it seems like Arby’s does a better job at it. Only generous dips of au jus helped it out. The clam chowder lacked flavor, consistency and the clams in the soup was lacking. Seems like Progresso canned clam chowder tastes better. Who knows? I probably have bad taste but the food was unimpressive during this first visit despite the rave reviews. The woman who took my order and prepared my sandwich was warm and friendly but the cashier was ICY, she clearly hates her job. Seems like the only good thing about this place is the gorgeous views of the bay and Morro rock from the patio. I came here Wednesday, January 27 in the afternoon. Is the food here mediocre at this time? Because I don’t understand the generous reviews, haha.

Went with my wife last night, and it was excellent! We had the roast beef French dip sandwich, and an order of Texas toothpicks. The sandwich was really loaded with juicy and tender beef. We thought we could not finish them, but we won that challenge. And the Texas toothpicks were also great. About the best battered and fried thing ever. It’s casual, and the service was friendly and fast. Overall, a great place, and I am sure we will be back.

After walking up and down the Morro Bay boardwalk, looking at all the touristy crap and all the Steinbeck(I hated being force fed his books as a student) related junk you’d care to see in your lifetime. We were struggling with a food choice for dinner I turned to a local looking dude and asked half comically«what’s good to eat around here bro? He said go there(pointed) to the Hoffbrau. Big thanks to the local homeboy. It was definitely a great decision, because we had a great view of the bay, the rock not to mention great food at a great price. The Hofbrau is not exactly as it sounds. I would have thought of steins overfilled with German beer, some schnitzel, kraut and knockwurst. Nope I was way off. The Hofbrau is a smallish place filled with some pick-nick type benches for tables. Sort of old school family style seating. But kind of true to form it does have a decent brew selection on tap. However its food selection is hardly Germanic. From the moment you walk in and see the carving station head on you know you’re in the right place. Since 1971, Hofbrau has been serving hand-carved roast beef sandwiches along with great burgers, salads and seafood. We had a bit of everything. I had a Reuben — corned beef, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut on toasted rye and a salad from the salad bar. Nice salad bar, and the corned beef was very beefy and outstanding! Son had a pastrami sammy with Swiss cheese & a jus on a French roll. He scarfed that up in a heartbeat!
Daughter #1 had a fresh carved roast beef and a-jus on a French roll. Even finicky daughter dusted her plate clean. the RB here is spot on with a bold beefy flavor. Daughter #2 Had Mac n cheese n fries. She liked the Kraft-ish? just like at home. Son and I shared an order of Texas Toohpicks — breaded jalapeño and onion strips. These were pretty freakin good, nice breading and had some crunch but could have been hotter for my liking. but still pretty good. And I also shared a bowl of clam chowder w/#2 pretty good, not great but had lots of clam. All the food was excellent. The servers were cool too, helping us pick food and just being friendly. There were a bunch of locals eating there too and a few I spoke with a few folks. They were very loyal to the HB, speaking as if it was a Morro Bay legacy. I too would be a loyal if it weren’t 250 miles away. I recommend this place. But bet your ass if I’m in the area I’ll be back for sure. The sea food options look awesome.

So delicious! Clam chowder was amazing. Roast beef sandwich was tender and juicy. The fried clam strips and chips were soo good. I would definitely come back again to try their whole menu. I’m salivating just thinking about the clam chowder.

Been going to the Hofbrau for 35+ years now, I just want to know how it’s just as good today as when it opened. Unreal sliced roast beef sandwiches(best anywhere!) and probably my favorite BBQ Beef sandwich in the world. Prices are reasonable to begin with, even moreso when you take half your meal home with you. Order accordingly. Fish and Chips are on point, bratwurst & sauerkraut are my pops favorites, and fries are solid. Staff is always friendly and smiling, and food arrives pronto. Really everything you want in a nice oceanfront meal, and nothing you don’t. Ask for Stan and tell him I sent you.

On a whim, my husband and I dropped by this restaurant on our way back to SLO. The Ruben was piping hot and delicious and the Clam Chowder in the bread bowl hit the spot. Great lunch setting and awesome views!

This place is AMAZING! We went on a day trip to Morro Bay, and stopped here twice before leaving. Everyone got something different to eat and we all loved our dishes. The view from the patio is gorgeous and the whole atmosphere is a lot of fun :) This place is a must!

After walking up and down the Morro Bay boardwalk, we finally decided to do Hofbrau. It was definitely a great decision, because we had a great view of the bay along with great food. My wife had the corned beef sandwich, which was fantastic because the corned beef was tender and had a smoky taste to it. Definitely could tell they made their own. I had the roast beef dinner with sauerkraut, German potatoes and a Hefeweizen to wash it down. Definitely a good call and at a reasonable price. Highly recommend stopping by for a little taste of Germany right on the waterfront.

After looking around at menus we decided to stop here and have dinner. The waiting line was very very long but it seemed that the customers were very loyal and that the food was very good. What made us make the loooong line was the cheaper prices, in comparison with other local seafood restaurants in Morro Bay. You must know this restaurant is very low key, you make a long line to order and then you sit down and they bring the food to your table. They have tables outside and inside. It gets pretty cold outside so if you want a table inside you have to wait longer. We had the shrimp, calamari, and chips and a soup. I must say, everything was absolutely delicious… Worth the wait! The restaurant also has bakery, on the other side of the building. We are definitely stopping there for a cinnamon roll! But in addition to rolls they have a great variety of chocolate and truffles, and they all look delicious and affordable!

Went here today to get lunch. Walked in when we saw that the prices were affordable. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the most lovely and friendly host/waitress. She was witty and fun to talk To as she gave us information about their food and what we «must» try. I wanted fish and chips even though they specialize in beef. She told me that the fish and chips are still amazing. I ordered the 4 piece meal and she asked if I wanted a beer and I asked for a taste of their Barrel House IPA. It was delicious. But my friend tried a taste of their Hofbrau German Hefeweizen and I got a pint of that instead. We had a beautiful view of Morro Rock and the bay. The tables and ceiling were all made of wood and the entire restaurant had a great vibe and ambiance to it. Fish and chips arrived with two sides of homemade tartar sauce and several lemons. It was bomb! It was very filling and delicious!

If you come here for the French Dips, you won’t be disappointed. But then you’d miss the best Calamari and chips on the central coast. Be sure to ask for their fresh Coleslaw on the side(added at no cost if you ask). Great food, great service, great view.

I’ve eaten at Hofbrau many a time, and every visit has been wonderful. The sandwiches are tasty and the seafood is superb, even the dipping sauces have tons of flavor! I highly recommend the Roast Beef Au Jus, Fish ‘n Chips, and Shrimp; they’ve never failed to impress me no matter how many times I eat them.

A must when in Morro Bay. This place is known for their sandwiches(most people like the original roast beef dip but I like the pastrami). The fried clam strips are yummy, but the clam chowder isn’t as good as Splash Café in Pismo. I laughed when I found a slice of potato as long as a French fry in my soup. But definitely go for the sandwiches and the view of the amazing Morro Rock. You might even get to see some otters at play!

The best part of Hofbrau was the friendly service… My son and I both had the roast beef sammies: bread was fresh and tasty; roast beef was almost bland, and cooked well done. While the amount of meat was plentiful, the lack of flavor and heat-lamped-to-the-extreme approach made for a forgettable sammie. We tried to salvage the sammies w/a last minute addition of a very tasty homemade horseradish, but it couldn’t save the day. In the end, just disappointed. RS

Hofbrau’s roast beef sandwich with the au jus sauce is so good that I am compelled to have one every time I come to Morro Bay. What made me even more ecstatic is that they offer beer-battered fish and chips, which I prefer over breaded. The New England clam chowder is also delicious! This place has been around for a long time and it’s a family-owned and run business and one can always expect good service and quality food. I used to go to Giovanni’s for their fish and chips but after finding Hofbrau, it is the place for me here in Morro Bay!
