Pleasant, local place for a typical Myrtle Beach menu. Our group of 4 started with a dozen oysters and she crab soup. The oysters were okay but missed the briny taste from really fresh ones. The she-crab soup was tasty although missing a bit more sherry. The main courses included grilled grouper and soft shelled crab. Both were nicely prepared with the crab really enjoyed by our group. We topped off the nice meal with an excellent slice of Key Lime pie. Nice service and decent food.

We went to dinner yesterday after reading reviews on Unilocal and AAA. We were not disappointed. The quality is excellent. My wife had the early bird special of fried flounder and popcorn shrimp(you could substitute deviled crab for one) I had the fried seafood combo. I ordered that thinking the special would be a small portion for $ 13.99. Boy was I wrong. A nice big piece of flounder and a good amount of shrimp. My plate was huge, an even bigger piece of flounder, 5 large shrimp, 3 large scallops, and potato cheese balls. We both couldn’t finish, so we took it back to our timeshare to have the next day. The fish was lightly battered, not breaded like so many restaurants do when the fish and shell fish are prebreaded and frozen. We will definitely be back.

A good tourist spot one of two restaurants in murrels inlet to serve«any» fresh local seafood. Very nice people working. I just wish the fresh and local wasn’t just an available special but was for the whole menu.

So, I was very generous with my last review of Russell’s but I will not be this time. I am 100% certain that my family and I will never be going back to Russell’s. We thought we would give it a second chance this year due to what happened last year and the fact that we have received two good meals here in years prior. We went to Russell’s on a Friday night at the end of August and there was no wait around 5:30 P.M. As soon as we were seated, the waitress brought over some hushpuppies and butter. The hushpuppies were so over fried, they were dark brown and the insides were so dry. It does not help that Russell’s does not make its own butter either, but instead just brings store bought honey butter. Zero stars for creativity and culinary expertise. The second batch of hushpuppies was not any better, same greasy, overfried, dried out gross hushpuppies. My mom and I ordered the oyster platter. No flavor in the batter, zero flavor whatsoever. One of my oysters had a hair fried into it, so maybe that was the seasoning? Gross. Baked potato was a baked potato and salad was a salad with the bare minimum ingredients to make it a salad, iceberg lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and some shredded carrot. My dad said the slaw was the weirdest slaw ever and I will not repeat what he said it tasted like. Shoestring fries again, y’all need to do better. Also, I really do not understand what happened to their early bird specials, I thought they had them. So, Russell’s we’re done. We’re breaking up. It’s over. I’m finding someone else on the Inlet to get my seafood fix from while on vacation.

We live in Thailand and the U.S. When we visit my sister in Murrell’s Inlet every year or two we eat at Russell’s when we want good seafood which is usually three or four times a week. Raw clams and oysters, chowders, hush puppies, conch fritters, grouper, and all else is very good. The waiters and waitress’s are great. The owner is there every time and is a very nice guy who wants the best for his customer’s in our opinion.

My family has been coming to Russells for over 15 years. The past couple of times our food has not been that great. Last night the she crab soup, which is usually to die for, was cold. I got the shrimp and scallops platter and the shrimp was cold and soggy. The scallops were hard and had no flavor. Other people in my party got the same platter and it was probably the worst thing we ate all week. It was way too expensive for the quality of food that we received.

Was here last night for dinner with some girlfriends looking for tasty seafood, we got that and more at Russell’s Seafood Grill. I ordered the 12oz rib-eye with broiled scallops($ 36.95), it came with a garden salad and one side, I chose green beans. Everything was delicious but the ribeye was so delicate and melt in your mouth tender that I almost fell out it was so unexpectedly good. Didn’t even need steak sauce, just like Blaine said! The green beans were also delicious, they tasted like they were cooked in potlikker(liquid you’re left with after cooking collard greens) and I started to ask for an extra portion they were so yummy. My girlfriends order the 12oz rib-eye with broiled shrimp, a seafood platter, and an oyster sandwich, all served with a salad and side of their choice. They all enjoyed their food. We were also offered a basket of hush puppies that I didn’t indulge in but was told by the girls tasted like funnel cake! BLAINE! Blaine was our server and he was excellent. He was super friendly, attentive, and accommodating. Also, who I’m assuming to be Russell, the owner came out to check on us twice that evening which I really appreciated. While the place is quaint and doesn’t look like much on the outside, the food and great service certainly makes up for it.

First time here as out of towners, and my boyfriend and I were so pleased. The atmosphere is right up our alley, and we were looking for a cute date spot for our last night on vacation. We grabbed a spot on the patio right away, despite the decent sized Saturday crowd. The staff was super nice and hospitable, ESPECIALLY our server blane! He was so great! We both work or have worked in the service industry for years, so needless to say we’re very critical when it comes to service. Right off the bat they bring out hot hush puppies! Ordering was easy and we got good suggestions/were able to customize everything how we wanted. Ian got the mixed platter, and I got the fresh mahi. Both were fantastic, and the portions perfect, and reflective of price. Had a good beer and wine as well. If we weren’t leaving tomorrow we’d make this a regular spot! Thanks guys!

Our waitress Tracy, bugged us all night long if we were ready to order food. Never a smile on her face. We decided not to eat after all because of her. Complained to the owner and said that he found it odd as Tracy was his best employee. Wrong. Sue, the bartender is the best there. We are locals and we will not return ever.

Found Russell’s when our first choice was closed on the Fourth of July. Glad we did! Hush puppies were great. Most of us had the she crab soup and were impressed. Our table really ran the menu, from burgers to the daily special to seafood to steak. Everything was good and the waitstaff was very attentive. Russell himself was even making the rounds to all of the tables. A nice local place to get away from the big touristy buffets.

Arrived just before 6 pm – in time for the Early Bird specials and just before the crowds hit. The Early Bird specials cannot be beat! We had the seafood platter, which, as we configured it, came with flounder, shrimp, hushpuppies, and a salad. Got one fried and the other broiled. Both were very fresh and tasted great! My daughter had the coconut shrimp appetizer as her entrée, and it was very good also. The restaurant sits up high, so we had a great view.

Russell’s was a new found gem in murrells inlet! Awesome atmosphere out on the treetop deck looking at the inlet and their own live music. When we arrived we were greeted and shown to the first available seat outside. Pretty sure this was Russell and it made us feel wanted and welcome! Our waiter was On top of things and very friendly! Scallops were amazing and green beans like your mamas. Fiancé enjoyed his platter of grouper, shrimp and oysters. Only complaint was over cooked shrimp, but still edible. We will be back!

This place was very welcoming and had outstanding service! The owner personally was going around to each table greetings and talking to guests! I would recommend the she crab soup and cold peel and shrimp! My dad had a steak which was cooked to perfection! My mom had broiled grouper which was a little tough, but overall a great restaurant!!!

Russell’s is a must stop place. We make sure we come here ever time we are in town. Make sure you get the groper and the beef. The owner and the staff are nothing short of exceptional customer service. If you stop here you will not be disappointed.

This is a wonderful no-frills, locals place. The seafood is fresh, the service is super friendly, and the prices are oh-so-reasonable! I came in with my parents and my 8 year old for dinner on a gorgeous Saturday evening. They have this amazing second story high deck that I wanted to sit at, but my parents insisted on sitting indoors(I guess old people don’t like to sit outside). So we went in and the hostess drew out attention the daily specials board. They run 3 – 4 daily specials of what comes in freshest. We sat down and our super-friendly waitress(I wish I could recall her name), brought us a heaping helping of DELISHIOUS hush puppies, and informed us that they run a few early-bird specials too from 4:00 — 6:00pm. As we were there at 5:00pm we got to hear these as well. My kid and my parents all settled on the fried shrimp baskets, and I had the deviled crab. Everything was yummy! The food was simple, no-frills, straightforward, and perfect. The beers we ordered were ice-cold, and the cosmopolitan that I had from the bar was rocking good too. My daughter ordered key lime pie for dessert, and it was a frozen version that I had never experienced before. It was different, but it was tasty. Also be warned: Russell’s doesn’t take reservations, and if you are not there by 5:00pm, you’ll have to wait for a table, but it is totally worth it. We had an over-all wonderful experience. Russell’s is my parents’ favorite seafood place in Murrell’s Inlet, and I can see why. I’ll be returning again and often.

This was our 2nd trip to Russell’s Seafood and it continues to exceed our expectations. Of course the amiable owner/host Russell was on hand to greet us and actually remembered us from our previous visit. Our waitress Kate(not Katherine) was very attentive. My Wife had the broiled seafood platter and it was superb. I had the NY strip and it’s as good a steak as you’d find in any top Steakhouse. During peak season you may have to wait as they don’t take reservations but I assure you it’s worth it!

Ok I did my research on Unilocal for a spot in Murrells inlet, been through here many times but wanted to try a new place. Turned out to be one of my better choices, small and local with a spot on menu. When I saw oyster stew on the menu, got real excited but wanted to make sure it was authentic cuz I’ve burned before. Waiter assured me it would be to my liking and he was right, very right, just like down home on the gulf coast. Then topped it off with an oyster po boy and all was right with the world. They had me at the oyster stew, well done Russell’s.
