I was happy to find something that reminded me of home. We got there before the evening rush. The food was good and only lightly seasoned. No worries… just add a little salt and pepper to your liking. At first, I wasn’t too sure about my server but he quickly warmed up and kept the drinks refilled and cleared the table as soon as he could. I didn’t give it 5 stars only because my fish and mashed potatoes were a little tepid, but it wasn’t bad at all!

I get takeout from this K&W every week or two. I do so because it’s convenient and the food is good for what it is. I’d rather get a «home cooked» meal than a burger and fries for the same money. I only gave this K&W two stars because it is poorly managed by a team that clearly doesn’t care. You never know if they are going to have a menu to select from… it just depends on who is there I guess. I once asked an employee for a menu and was told the manager had not put them out. I actually saw the manager and told him his employee was blaming him for falling down on the job and failing to provide a menu. He admitted it was his fault and promptly… did nothing about it. I was in today for lunch and there was again no paper/printed menu at the take out line and it didn’t seem to bother anyone. I looked at the menu board instead so I would at least know what meats were available. I saw country style steak and ordered that. Nope, sorry we don’t have that today. Ok, I’ll have the chicken pan pie then, since I see that on the menu. The lady went to the main serving line and came back empty handed. Sorry no chicken pan pie today. I finally figured out the menu board was just plain wrong… because the loser management staff did not care to insure it was updated and accurate. Why am I being so rough on the management staff? Because the workers are only as good as their management and that’s the lead they will follow. For another indication of how poorly this K&W is managed all you need to do is walk in and look up. The ventilation system is disgusting. All I can think about is all those dust bunnies falling on my food. If the management does not care enough to clean what they and we can obviously see then I wonder what else they don’t care about… besides providing accurate menus. Wonder how clean the kitchen is? Does anyone on the management staff even care?

I always experience good food at this K&W. However I went for breakfast one morning and it wasn’t the best. The table attendant was extremely nice and helpful. The eggs and omelet were fairly runny. As funny and personable as the cook was, she was more focused on being queen bee. Should have left that cold medicine at home! Biscuits and gravy were cold and pasty. The table attendant was very helpful when she saw me carrying the plate back, she took care of the situation and brought me the plate back… Reheated… Fresh batch of HOT biscuits would have been preferred, but I don’t expect as much down here. All of this could have been prevented by simple quality control of foods being served. All in all, great staff, decent food and variety.

OK, I already was told this is where old people like to go! Yes, we went here because I was meeting my dad and this is his FAVORITE place in Myrtle Beach. He keep saying, you can see what you get, get as little or as much and just pay for you get. Also, he would state that it was reasonably priced. I was ready to head down to Murrells Inlet to get some seafood, but I thought I would just suck it up to make my dad happy. WELL, I am glad that I was open minded to give it a try. Just as he stated, see what you order, get as much or as little and pay a reasonable price(I am guessing on this cause he payed the bill) on your way out. To sum it up… the food was fresh and good. They had 5 different salads to choice from. My husband and I of course ended up getting the same one which is more towards a Greek style without the feta cheese. We both were very happy with this choice. I had fried flounder, sour cream baked potato casserole YUM along with a chocolate pudding parfait. He choose along with his salad roast beef and mashed potatoes finishing off with a slice of coconut cream pie. He stated that every thing was good. My dad of course like all that he choose. Really, there is so many things to pick from I was looking from the time I walked in going down towards where the line starts to getting food so I had an idea what I would want to choose from. Those that are complaining about the a la cart approach are probably the same people I hear complaining about airlines nickle and dimming you when you fly on certain airlines. REALLYPEOPLE, what’s wrong with paying for just want you want and not paying for all the stuff you don’t want. Stop and think about how much a meal is somewhere else that you get a salad or soup and 2 sides when you really only maybe want one side and no salad or soup. Yes, I would go back here at this particular K&W — there is another we seen further south but not the one my dad goes to so I can’t comment. The people serving on the line was friendly along with the staff that was keeping the dining room CLEAN.

I used to go here as a kid(20+ years ago) and I remember the lines were out the door for their hot food and friendly service. Now I go here and there is hardly a wait at all. Unfortunately, I know why. Unfriendly service, nasty food, and the décor hasn’t changed since the 1990s. My broccoli side was burnt(seriously how do you burn broccoli). I requested roast beef for my daughter without the gravy because she has Celiac Disease. The cafeteria lady tried to just pour the gravy back into the gravy bowl and then serve us the roast beef with the remnants of gravy(I’m sorry but I just had to crack up when she did this, was she serious). There was no milk or juice available for my small children so they gave us what tasted like a Glucola drink(diabetes hello!) All of the salads were brown. To top it off my husband spent the whole night in the bathroom due to food poisoning from the chicken fingers. The ladies behind the glass remind me of school cafeteria ladies. They scream«What are you having?» and then slop food in front of you without a smile on their face. The only good thing about the trip was the friendly cashier and our server who made us feel welcome and didn’t make us just walk out without eating. Very disappointed. I remember the old days of this place too much. My family will NEVER be returning here and I suggest that you consider the same based on this review and others. FYI — this place is seriously overpriced for the slop food that they serve. I guess you are paying for the 90s style ambience and the overly friendly cafeteria staff!

If you’re looking for delicious food in Myrtle Beach, SC, then DONOT go to K&W Cafeteria. Like most people who go to K&W Cafeteria, we ended up here because EVERY other restaurant nearby had a 45 – 60 minute wait. From the moment I stepped foot in the cafeteria, I was filled with a sense of dread about the culinary experience I was about to endure. For those of you unfamiliar with K&W Cafeteria, everything is a la carte. If you want steamed broccoli, it’s $ 1.25. If you want creamed corn, it’s $ 1.25. Hush Puppies are $ 0.45. Grilled Chicken Breast was $ 4.05. You get the point. I ate at K&W with 7 other individuals and we all unanimously agree that the food was horrible. It was either flavorless, or the flavor was really bad. My girlfriend, for example, had beet salad that was spicy and had huge chunks of celery — wth?!? What kind of sick, deranged individuals mixes beets with celery? She took one bite and damn near spit it across the table. Like any good girlfriend, she insisted that I try it. It was bad. I LOVE Beet salad. But I have never had it spicy and for good reason. Its awful. I ate the Turkey with Dressing and Cranberries and it tasted like it came out of a Swanson Hungry Man TV Dinner. Maybe not. That’d be unfair for Swanson to draw a comparison. It just lacked any real flavor. The Dressing was bland. The turkey was bland. And the Gravy, or Yellow Milky substance the turkey was swimming in, was bland. The steamed broccoli and corn were ok. But, come on, how the heck do you screw up steamed broccoli? Lisa got the Chicken Breast that looked like it had been kept under a heat lamp for 3 weeks. It was small, dry and just plain nasty. She doused it with BBQ sauce and that really didn’t help. I mean, you can’t polish a turd. I don’t get the whole concept. I mean, I found myself thinking«Do I really want a side salad for $ 2.00» or «Do I want hush puppies for $ 0.45?». I ended up talking myself out of virtually everything, so my family of 3(well, 4, but Corbin wouldn’t eat a darn thing) ate there for under $ 20.00. I would have liked a salad. I mean, it’s salad. But because of their pricing model, I chose NOT to get one. I would have rather paid $ 9.95 and gotten my choice of things. The décor reminds me of my old high school. It wasn’t the cleanest place, and the 60s music made me feel like I went back in time. I went there during the peak of summer vacation and it was pretty empty. I should have known by the fact that there was plenty of parking that this place wasn’t good. On the plus side, the desserts looked pretty good and the guy who came to fill our drinks did a very good job. But the lady who you pay when you leave was still surly after all of these years. Someone had a review from a few years ago where they commented on her attitude. It’s nice to see somethings never change — NOT! We were able to get in and eat and leave within 15 minutes. The décor is so ghastly that you just want to get the heck out of there. The idea of sitting around in those $ 10.00 cheap chairs and chit chatting never enters your mind. In conclusion, this was by far the worst meal I had in South Carolina so far. And that INCLUDES my meal at Uncle John’s. I honestly have no suggestions on how to improve this.

We love to come here every time we are in Myrtle Beach. It will probably be your cheapest. The food is actually pretty good. They have a wide variety of food and sides. I got deep fried Hoki and it was excellent. My wife got baked spaghetti and is was yummy as well. The staff was very friendly… my 10 month old grabbed my ice water when I wasn’t looking and spilled it everywhere. They rushed to help us clean it up.

It’s kind of strange to think of a restaurant as a place where you would call home but K&W will always hold a special place in my heart. I grew up being given the privilege to vacation in beautiful Myrtle Beach with my family for my first seventeen years. When ever we’d drive down for our stay, K&W was always our top dining choice! The food was exceptionally affordable, great quality, a wide variety, calm atmosphere, and employed the most genuinely kind people I have ever met in my life to this day. I am writing this Unilocal review because after spending seven years away, I returned to the same K&W where I had spent a huge chunk of my childhood at only to be greeted with that same feeling of home I felt for all those years before. The same crew who had practically watched me grow up were still there with big smiles and a warm welcome.(Jon, Tad, Ava, ect.) They probably have no idea who I am, or maybe vaguely remember me, but there’s a saying that holds true for them and this company: «it’s not what people do, but how they make you feel that matters.» This is what I think about when I think of K&W. So I just want to say thank you, K&W, for filling me with so many wonderful memories.

We’ve eaten at the K&W cafeteria in Fayetteville, NC and found it to be a solid 3 star place. So, we decided to stop in at this one for a quick dinner. What an awful experience! The bread, cheese biscuits, were doughy and inedible. My husband and I had spaghetti; it was greasy(grease pooling on the plate). My husband had green beans and carrots, too. The green beans were very mushy, obviously kept on the steam table far too long. The carrots were just ok. Because of this experience, I would not want to ever eat at another K&W!

K & W is an old school cafeteria, but you know what you are getting when you go there. We went for breakfast this visit and the pecan waffles are worth the drive… trust me. YUMMO! Buying a la carte can get pricey if your eyes are bigger than your stomach, but everything we had at our table was very good and the folks taking your order, checking you out and refilling our drinks were just as sweet as they come. We’ll be back I’m sure!

Great food. Their cream corn, Mac & cheese, Mexican cornbread, and cabbage was outstanding. They have some southern cooks back in the kitchen that know what they’re doing!

In my up and coming years I moved to Alexandria, Virginia. My ambition was far greater than my budget. Nearby was a K & W Cafeteria which introduced me to southern food at low prices. Now I no longer have to prove myself or set career goals as I retired. Thanks to Wall Street, Capitol Hill, and Pennsylvania Avenue I again have a thin wallet. K & W again enters my life. During my stay at a condo in the Cabana section of Myrtle Beach I go to this nearby cafeteria more than any place. The food remains the same. Well cooked southern style food at low prices. I read the other reviews and was not surprised to find that most everyone appreciates this chain. One woman found the food under seasoned. Lady, I have never known southerners to use much besides salt, pepper and hot sauce. They all sit on the S & W tables. Simply shake some on. I pass by the sides and desserts and with just a meat and one side I can eat dinner for five dollars or load up and still not spend ten. I am at the beach during December so most places have no lines. S & W often has lines with people patiently waiting. Guess restaurateurs never learn that gouging leaves a very bad taste.

Fantastico! Great southern food, very affordable price. Only problem is you end up putting too much on your tray, not like it’ll cost you a lot, but its easy to load that thing up well beyond the capacity of your tummy! Love the chocolate pudding pie, fried chicken, cornbread, mashed, and fried anything else they have serve up. I’m hungry again just thinking about it. Don’t be putt off by the line going out the door, they serve em fast in there, you’ll be munching down in no time.

I haven’t been to a place like this in years! As I walked through the line to get some food, I felt like I was in a school cafeteria. Wow, that brought back some memories. OMG! Final exams! Gym class! Calculus! Art project due! Whew! OK, I’m back… The food here is MUCH better than my school cafeteria. They had a nice selection of entrees and desserts. And the food was cheap!(keep in mind that I’m from NY and accustomed to NY prices) I ordered fried chicken with two sides and an iced tea and it was under $ 8. If I lived near this place, I would be here almost every day!

I’ve eaten here for years and and the food seems to have remained fairly consistant. The same dependable comfort food. Fried chcken, mac n cheese, baked steak, iced tea, all kinds of rolls and custard pie… oh my! The service over the years has waivered. The prices and food, however, have not. It is homey-style food. Not deconstructed versions of chicken & livers… Not the place to experience an on the edge gastro — experience… but it’s not trying to be that. Some of the locations no longer offer breakfast, but the breakfasts are decent(waffles– good) and a great price. It can be touristy at times, when the dinner crowd lines up in the Disney style cattle chutes lines that run out the door. Over the years, they have added a very handy carry out option, with a separate entrance/pick up area. Same good food, same great prices.

Way better than Angelo’s down the street! This is typical cafeteria-style food. It’s not high cuisine by any stretch of the imagination but it’s really good value and friendly service.
